Demetrios smelled the blood first. The sharp, copper scent was a whisper at first, but it was soon the strongest scent in the rock out-crop. For a moment, he thought he could pick up the faint scent of bear, but he couldn’t be sure. He flicked his tail towards the male Honovi wolf. Let him doubt. Let him be disrespectful. He already knew the wolf hadn’t been a Honovi member long. The honey colored wolf would earn the hearts of the Honovi with time, dedication and hard work. They truly had no idea exactly who he was, for his mother’s spirit lived on inside him and Acka had been a force to be reckoned with. Demetrios would be no different. His mother had created this pack from nothing. She had gone to war to gain them better territories. And until she had stepped down, she had kept the pack thriving. And the pack was NOT thriving now….something needed to be done…..
He was not surprised when Treason finally appeared. He had scented her faint border markers and recognized her scent now. His first impression of her was that she was a large wolf with a thicker body set. They were roughly the same height, but where she was power and stamina, he was speed, agility and grace. His long legs gave him a great deal of his height. Maroon colored fur served to hide the worst of Treason’s blood from his eyes for a moment, until he focused on the mats in her pelt. Shock shot through him then, not at the Alphess making her appearance at last, and not at her angry, pain filled voice….but at the severity of her wounds.
Demetrios leaped gracefully from his perch and landed before the Alphess, ignoring all the other wolves present. He gave her a respectful amount of space in case she decided to attack, but circled around her, inspecting her wounds ”No offense My Lady Treason, but I don’t think you’re fit to fight a pup right now. There would be no honor in an easy victory over a wounded wolf. If I were here to challenge you to a dominance fight, I would not do so until you had recovered.” He stopped in front of her and looked at her seriously. ”Happily, I am not here to overthrow you. Lower your hackles, brave Alphess. I do not come with threats to usurp you. I knew, before my mother Acka sent me here with her dying breath, that you were Alphess of this pack. My intent isn’t to cast you from your role as Alphess M’Lady….my intent is to join with you as your Alpha to serve the Honovi pack for the rest of my days. Acka taught me much, and I believe her wisdom should find a place back in the heart of the pack she created.” He left the implications of this suggestion hanging in the air. Traditionally, the Alpha and Alphess were a mated pair...but not always. Eyeing her thoughtfully, he wasn't opposed to pursuing her...he knew that she was of Kiowa's bloodlines and any cubs they produced would no doubt accomplish great things....his mother, in her old ways, might have even suggested an arranged mating. But, right now, there were more urgent matters to address....
He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders. ”We can discuss this more later M’Lady. I am happy to see that you are back and the..." He stopped and inhauled, "...bear did not triumph over you, though I am not surprised. However, there are matters more pressing to attend to right now.” He took a slow, non-threatening step towards her. ”I think you may have reopened the wound in your side. I can’t tell without coming closer, but either way you need to wash and bandage it before infection sets it. You cannot do it yourself and inexperienced paws should not be mucking about in your wounds. Fortunately, I can make you a good bandage. It’s that, or go to the Healer of the Mountain…though I fear the journey may hurt you worse.” He paused. He didn’t know this wolf very well, but he just had a feeling that she was going to be stubborn. ”The tougher you try to be right now, the longer it will take you to heal. And the Honovi needs you to be strong right now. Treason, look at me…” He took one more small step closer, capturing her golden eyes with his. ”I am not here to cause any harm or to deceive you Alphess. I have come here to help share the responsibilities of leading the Honovi pack. You know that the Honovi are not the strong, thriving pack they once were….I will help you turn that around. Though I do plan to bring about changes, I will do so only with your agreement My Lady.” He inclined his head towards her. ”But first, please allow me to look at your wounds….I promise you, I am especially equipped to help you…”

Treason stood staunchly in spite of her wounds, he expression still hard and unwavering. The not-usurper had seen her, his expression cool right up until his eyes found her wounds. Surprise flickered across that arrogant face then, and she wondered what she must look like to her pack. Standing there with the fury of a hurricane, her flesh shredded and bloody- it must have been quite an odd sight.
"You come here claiming to be the descendant of Acka, and yet you offer Honovi no proof except flowery words. Do you think that we are fools, to be swayed so easily? Even if you were the direct progeny of Acka, do you believe that the blood in your veins lends you some sort of prerogative? I am wounded, but my pack— contrary to your opinion— is not. You may have been groomed for leadership, but not groomed enough if you truly believe that you can stride in here and proclaim yourself my alpha. Your supposed mother may have built this pack, but what have you done for Honovi? Fantasized about it? Craved it?" Her voice regained some of its smoothness, but it still sliced the air like a blade. She lifted her head as she spoke, eyes like stars in the shadow of the tree line. Treason did not care for the brief, appraising look he gave her when he was finished speaking, and even less for his audacity at assuming that such a lofty rank would be his for the taking. She was not a simpleton to be won with words.
The fur rippled across her spine as he stepped closer to her, eyes turning cold in warning. The way he spoke was condescending, as if he were speaking to an injured pup rather than the leader of a pack. "I do not trust the wolf who only just crossed my boundaries to attend to my wounds. I am not some youthful ignorant to be spoken down to by you, descendant of Acka."
Her side throbbed painfully, the ache reverberating into her very bones. For a moment black spots began to cloud her vision, but she scowled and shook her sight clear of them. She could rest later, but for now there were matters that she needed to attend to. The air was sharp with the frost of autumn, and she knew in the depth of her core that winter would soon be upon them. Winter, which brought sorrow and ice to the packs of the valley. Winter which would not bring sorrow to Honovi so long as she was there to lead it. This newcomer, this intruder, sought to bring his birthright here to try and sway her pack towards the direction that he believed that it should take. What would he do now that she was denying that ambition? Would he fight them all, or simply try and entice them? Honovi were wise enough not to be so easily persuaded, so if it was the later, he would be sorely disappointed.
"Treason, look at me..."
She jerked her head forward, snarl cutting across her muzzle like a gash, teeth bleeding through. "No, you look at me. If you would like to stay here, then prove it with actions, not more words. Promise me everything. Promise me the moon, the sun, the earth, but it will not matter. Promises mean nothing here. If you want me— us— to respect you, then you will quickly need to learn that what you say is vastly out shadowed by what you do."
She stepped closer, inches from him. "So, son of Acka, tell me— what have you done?"

Anger flashed briefly in his eyes, only to be reined in and controlled. ”Make no mistake, I am Acka’s son. How many wolves know she was a master Botanist? Or that she and Condor had one son named Morso, who died beneath Kiowa’s fangs for betraying his mother? How many wolves know of the founding ranks and founding values of the Honovi pack? Do YOU even know them Treason?” Demetrios shook his head, disappointed in the Alphess’ anger. What a hot headed she wolf…. He narrowed his eyes at her. ”Perhaps your birth pack runs deeper in your veins than you think, Treason……” He admonished. ”And here I thought that the Honovi were set apart by their wisdom and cool heads. Your tongue and your temper is as sharp as that of an evil wolf. But perhaps this is not the same Honovi pack of song and legend. Perhaps this is the Honovi in name alone and everything that made this pack what is was created to be has died with Acka.” He snorted, a bit disgusted now. If Acka could be here now, she would be so disappointed with what had become of the pack she had worked so hard to create. ”Do you care nothing for the history of your pack? Do you care nothing for the foundations this pack was built on? Are you so disrespectful of the Honovi image and traditions? Do you even know why Acka chose the name Honovi? Because it means strong. But the pack I see is far from strong. It is broken and only a fool would deny that.” He snorted. ”You disgrace Acka’s name and the name of the Honovi by allowing the pack to fall into such ruin Alphess. Do you really think you can lead a pack when you do not respect that pack’s history? Perhaps you just want to lead any old pack and perhaps the Honovi name means nothing to you. If that be the case, perhaps you should just cast off the Honovi name and choose your own pack with its own values.” He was not being sarcastic at all. If she didn’t want to respect what the Honovi pack was founded for, perhaps she really should create a new pack name with her own ideas and values.
”What right does my blood give me to the Honovi pack? The right that The Founding Alphess, who was wiser and more powerful than any wolf now present, gave me when she appointed me her heir. It was Acka’s last wish. Do you believe yourself superior to the wolf that created the pack you call your own?” Let her, he thought darkly….let herdisrespect Acka’s name. No TRUE Honovi would let such disrespect slide. If this wolf had no honor, he would challenge her right here and now for the right to the Honovi name. For a wolf without honor had absolutely no business leading the Honovi, which was founded on bravery, wisdom, honor and loyalty.
”You stand there and talk of the Honovi like you have done the pack a great favor with your leadership. But what have YOU brought them lately? If you are such a competent leader, why is the pack in such disarray? You are blind to the problems laid at your paws and the PACK suffers for it. The loners that howl at your borders give up and leave, for their calls go unanswered. Your pack is scattered, dysfunctional and unorganized. No one has any roles to play. No one has responsibilities. There is no leadership or sense of unity. I have been quietly watching the Honovi pack for more than a season, and I have seen next to no pack activity. Summer, a time that should be spent growing strong in preparation for the bitter winter, passed without a single pack meeting or pack hunt. When was the last time you even had pups born to your pack? I will not allow the noble Honovi name to fall to ruin because you could not see past your pride to do what is right by your pack. Ask yourself….if your pack is functional, why did no one greet the loners in your stead? Why did no one look for you when you were wounded?” His lips peeled back in frustration at her blindness. ”The work I would do for the Honovi has just begun and the only obstacle I face is your stubborn pride. Are reason and wisdom lost on you? I offer much more than flowery words. I offer the wisdom of ACKA herself and immediate action to help make this pack strong again. For an example, I would bring back the founding pack ranks and spread responsibility through the whole pack. I would get to know each member and find a place where their skills would be most useful. I would organize border patrols and pack hunts. I would see the Honovi pack thrive and grow and I would start NOW if we could get past this ridiculous argument about what belongs to who. Respect and trust will be earned by all with time, but only if I am given the opportunity to help the pack Treason. If you truly care about the wellbeing of this pack, open your eyes to the possibilities allowing me to help lead will bring to the pack. Forget about yourself and your rank and think about them. If, by spring, the pack is unhappy with my leadership, I will leave and never return…but I do not think that will be the case.”
Demetrios stalked a circle around the Alphess, his movements smooth and fluid. His hackles were slightly raised, his tail was held high over his back and his muzzle was lowered to protect his throat. His muscles remained loose and ready to respond on a trigger’s notice. He walked boldly in front of her, standing mere inches apart once again, and spoke quietly, his golden eyes blazing with an unwavering challenge. ”I promise YOU nothing she wolf. Make no mistake. I am not here for YOU and neither is this pack. An Alpha serves the pack. Not the other way around. I am not here for myself or to accumulate easy power. I am here to help make the Honovi strong again by re-introducing the policies and beliefs this pack was founded with. Not MY ideas Treason. ACKA'S ideas and the TRUE Honovi way. Acka’s pack structure and way of ruling is tried, trusted and successful. They brought the pack many, many years of growth and strength. Have you ever heard the elders speak of Acka? If so, surely you have heard of how wise and brave a ruler she was. Will you disregard her wisdom and wishes so lightly? Will you be remembered as the Alphess that turned away Acka’s wisdom and brought about the decay of the Honovi pack? Or will you be remembered as the wise Alphess who did what was necessary to see her pack rise to and above their former greatness? What do you have to lose by allowing me to do as I ask? The PACK, Treason, has everything to gain.” Her choice today would not affect the path he chose to pursue. Even if it took him seasons to build the kind of support he would need to claim the Honovi name, in time, he would. For he knew that he was right-Acka's pack structure worked and it kept a pack strong. And Demetrios had more right to the Honovi name than this wolf, born to an evil pack, ever would. She could keep the small scattering of wolves she had. She could even keep these packlands, for he had no interest in such a barren place. But he would die before he allowed this wolf to keep and trash the honorable Honovi name.

A devilish grin grew across Mests's maw. He stood up and paced towards the bickering pair, stopping a moderate distance away and sweeping his tail back and forth playfully. "You still speak with only your tongue, Son of Acka. What I see before me is a strong leader. A leader who carefully considers each joining member. A leader who stands wounded, yet is prepared to fight to protect what she has worked so diligently to maintain. I also see an outsider, one who has not the courage to speak up, but instead watches from afar and awaits the absence of the alphess to attain leadership. All I see are daring swishes of the tail and words larger than the Mountain from you, Demetrios, but from Treason, I see very few words, as actions speak them all for her."
Mest could see it. Demetrios was provoking Treason. He was ready to fight, but not to make the first move. He wanted her to slip up, say something out of line, react from blind rage; anything to make Treason look bad. Mest's cunning ability in not shutting his mouth before it got him hurt might just help Treason.
"If words were strong enough to lead a pack, then metaphorically, I could spout nonsense about the wonders of the world, then claim I deserve the role of alpha, could I not?" Mest dared striding a bit closer to the golden wolf and looking into his piercing eyes. "What is the difference between your nonsense and mine, dog?"

Treason could have tensed, could have bared her fangs and gnashed at the wolf who so boldly challenged her, but she did not. Instead she allowed her entire form to relax, posture still dominant. If she fought here, now, it would kill her and she knew it. Her muscles had atrophied with her lack of food, new and old blood still matted her long red pelt. This was perhaps as far from peak condition as she had ever been. "Odd, that you should claim to be here to aid Honovi, and yet everything you have said so far has been directed at me. And, perhaps you are Acka's son in truth, but you will not win the right to lead them with a history lesson. You believe that your mother's teaching has earned you the right to a pack that you no longer truly know. You may be well-versed in the history of Honovi, but you would use the wolves that compose it as mere pawns to regain what you see as Honovi's former glory. I am the superior to none, nor have a claimed to be, but you are a fool if you believe that I will stand here and be cowed into submission by you, regardless of how illustrious your heritage is.
"I have lived most of my life sacrificing all that I could for Honovi— and I do it gladly, as there is no pack more worthy of it— but I do not have the rank that you so blatantly disrespect now without reason. I am here because the rest of the pack thought me worthy to be here, not because I cut my way through the ranks. You would dare to accuse me of not caring for my pack when you have stood back, merely watching, for a season. Do you believe that watching a thing is the same as being a part of it?" She replied cooly, shifting her weight to her less-injured leg. "Odd how much sharper your words become when you are denied something that you want, even when you accuse me of being temperamental. But, on one thing you are right— I am proud. I am proud of my pack, and I am proud to lead them. I am proud of their endurance, their balance, and their raw tenacity. Is this so heinous a crime? Should a leader not be proud of their pack? And, you are right, the pack has lacked organization as of late, and yet you so naively assume that this is the way that things always were. We have passed dips and peaks in our lives, and we shall doubtlessly pass through them again, but never once have we been stuck in the dark."
She eyed him, her gaze like fire. "And as for looking for me, they expected me to be away to Frigid Plague to strengthen our ties. Yes, you heard me correctly— Frigid Plague, the pack from whence I hail, but not my pack. My friends and loyalties lie here, in Honovi, and I would not currently be an Alpha if the circumstances had been otherwise. Though, I will admit, you do have a delightful flare for the melodramatic at suggesting that I should rename the pack to my own tastes. I will not, however, do so. Honovi is my home, its members are my friends and my comrades. I have fought alongside them for years, and do not plan on relinquishing that honor any time soon. As for the past, I respect Honovi's roots, but my head is not so firmly planted there that I am sightless when it comes to both the present and the future."
She fell silent, studying him in all his frustration. His posture was loose, but he was undeniably on edge. He expected her to rush him, perhaps. Treason could not deny that Honovi needed structure, as all things thrive in order, but she would enforce it in a way that didn't involve having every one of her pack mates ground away in a blind pursuit of some lost glory. Any glory that they shared would be theirs, not some ghost of a legacy. This wolf's arrogance both confounded and infuriated her, but perhaps he could serve as a catalyst to bring about much-needed change to Honovi. If he could tame his burning ambition. Ambition that could consume and destroy the pack mates that she had come to love— a thing she would never allow as long as she was alive.
Mest stepped forward to defended her, and she felt a renewed rush of affection for her pack mates. She had been right to accept him at the border; he did not mince his words, and such directness was a thing that she could respect. Still, she soothed him with a gentle wave of her tail, warning him that violence was not the answer. She returned her attention to Demetrios.
She asked, sincerely, her voice much softer. "Are you truly here to aid Honovi, as you claim, or are you here for glory and nothing more?" It was no insult.

Demetrios saw the Alphess begin to relax as soon as she relieved she had let her pain fueled temper ignite her words. As she relaxed, so did he and the thick tension in the air began to dissipate. Her words were sharp, but more thoughtful and more respectful of the Honovi name. He relaxed his ready posture, having no need to defend the honor of the Honovi name. She spoke of returning the pack to its former glory as if it were a bad thing, which puzzled him. ”Why would returning the Honovi to its former glory be a bad thing? Are peace, safety, pups, full bellies and a growing pack so undesirable?” His intentions truly were pure. He was not here for the power. He was here for the responsibility. The desire to lead and to protect flowed through his veins as thickly as blood. And though they did not realize it yet, the Honovi would flourish under his capable paws and sharp mind.
His heart beat fast as the tone of the conversation began to turn. Angry as Treason was, she had listened to his words and she heard some sense in them. Perhaps she would give him the chance he desired. His mind raced as he thought of ways to show her that his intentions were solely for the good of the pack.
The irksome Honovi male stepped forward, speaking out of place. Demetrios appraised him with cool, calm golden eyes. He wanted to roll his eyes as the male spoke in circles, all but calling Demetrios a coward for not speaking up and then criticizing him for speaking in the first place. He considered ignoring the wolf for a moment, but the decided to answer his question. ”The difference between you and I is that I possess knowledge, an eye and a mind trained for the role of leading. In time, my actions will prove my words….and when that day comes, you may wish that you had not so thoroughly stuck your foot in your mouth. It is always smarter to error on the side of caution, don’t you think?”
Demetrios turned his full attention back to the Alphess. His ears craned forward at her suddenly soft voice. He thought that she almost spoke the words in a rush, as if she were afraid to trust them. "Are you truly here to aid Honovi, as you claim, or are you here for glory and nothing more?"
Smiling softly, he inclined his head respectfully to her. He did her the consideration of actually pausing to think about her words before he answered. ”I am here to aid the Honovi, My Lady. I will lay down my life for them if I must. Though in order to help the Honovi, I need the authority to make some changes. I understand your hesitation though, for I am still an untested stranger. So I would make another offer. Take me as your Beta instead and allow me to prove myself worthy to stand as your Alpha. The only glory I wish to bring to the Honovi pack is the glory of full stomachs, healthy pups, a thriving pack and growing pack bonds.”

Torrent had listened from afar, ears swiveling, eyes widening. The argument was quite riveting. He could see the sense in both arguments, but Demetrios was right, how could improvement be a bad thing? Treason, also had a good point, how was she supposed to lift a complete stranger to the second hugest rank in her pack? It simply was not done. But Torrent had made his choice. Wordlessly, he portrayed a symbol of support. He walked up the hill to stand at the spotted wolfs side. He had chosen. He did not want speak, for surely this conversation was heated. He did not need to make enemies early on, especially with Alphess Treason.
Silently he wondered what his sister, avalanche would do right now, his throat lumped up at the thought of her. The two were incredibly close and it pained him to be separated from her for so long. He longed for her. He raised his saddened gaze to Treasons, maybe her guarded heart would soften. Then maybe again she would kick him out with a bitten leg.

The air between them had cooled considerably, a fact that she was thankful for. It would not do for a fight to break out here, not with her in this condition. Barely anything good could ever come of violence, and the few things that seemed to always have a vicious backswing attached to them. Everyone payed when two wolves fought— be it their families, friends, or the wolves themselves— even thought they knew not the price.
Treason smiled softly— bitterly— at his question, as if remembering something from the past. "If only that was all the pursuit of glory was. But, I have witnessed it, and seen it destroy others. I desire Honovi to be happy and thriving, as any Alpha would wish to see their pack, but untamed ambition can be dangerous, and it is very capable of taking lives. I would much rather leave 'the ends-justify-the-means' philosophies to Frigid Plague." She paused, turning to look over what few of her pack had gathered, as several others were loners. The sun caught her pelt as she turned, and even matted with blood and dirt it shimmered like red gold. It was the pack she addressed now.
"I speak now to the wolves of Honovi and the loners who wish to join their ranks. I have returned, and I do not mean from a brief sojourn through the valley. I feel as though I have woken from a long sleep, and that there are many changes that must be made to the pack. If you are considering joining, know this— the work will be difficult. I need the sharpness of your minds and the strength of your hearts, not the mere words and warm-wishes of complacency. If this idea does not deter you, then you are free to join, and perhaps we shall test your mettle." She swept a cutting gaze over the meager crowd, her voice thunder in the clearing. "We have fallen upon difficult times, but hope is far from lost. The Honovi will never be brought to their knees, be it my the onslaught of plague, fire, or tyrants bent on the destruction of those we love." She reared her head, bloodied and unbent "Long live the Honovi name!"
She had seen another wolf go to stand at Demetrios's side, but it did not bother her as it might have once. Demetrios was the new Beta of Honovi, what was the use in rending her pack apart in a schism now? Such an action would have been brutish and irrational.
She turned her fierce gaze back to Demetrios, searching his eyes as if she were trying to see into his soul. "The Beta position has long been vacant. If you are here to help, as you say you are, then you are welcome to it. I hope that you will complete your duties with the same vehemence you have shown in standing toe-to-toe with me, for there will be many of them. Honovi are not weak, and the winds of change are long overdue to blow through the plains of Honovi lands." A knowing expression flickered across her face. "If your passion is as fiery as it seems, then I believe that you will be the beta that I need in order to catalyze these changes. I hope that I am not disappointed in this assumption, but something tells me that I will not be."

Mest was taken aback at the words of his alpha and soon-to-be beta. He had read clearly the hint of a threat in Demetrios' words, and it nearly made his rage boil over. He indeed would have, had Treason not spoken. Her words were not ill-chosen, and in all their wisdom, very well might have ended a bloody battle long before it started. Even when she warned her pack, be them new, old, or joining, there was nothing but wisdom and promises of peace. Her last statement, however, felt like a blow to head. It had been arrogant of him to ask for alpha in the first place, but for her to cave into giving him beta over a handful of words? Was she out of her mind?
"Perhaps caution is best," Mest finally agreed. "And perhaps there should've been more caution with you," he barked under his breath before he realized he was speaking aloud. He made a statement towards Treason bowing his head, hoping Demetrios hadn't caught what he'd said.
"Shall I retrieve White Magic, or will you be okay, Treason? You aren't in any condition to travel, as Demetrios said."

Rhiannon had been growing bored with exploring the land of which here new home had claimed. It wasn't exactly like the one that she had left behind in her rush to escape, and truth be told she missed it a great deal. But the pack had been kind to her and had accepted her given her a new place to call home so for that she was grateful. Though the lack of seeing any of her pack members or even the Alphess herself was deeply troubling. It was Autumn in the land and they weren't anywhere close to being prepared for the winter.
She was about to head back to her den and turn in for the night having had her fill of adventure for the day when a howl rang out. Ears perked up at the sound and she tilted her head, it did not sound like her Alphess Treason or any other packmate, could a loner or challenger had crossed the border? She shifted her weight from leg to leg as she debated on whether or not she would go and investigate the strange howl or go back to the den. Having made up her mind she turned to which the sound had came from, as she got closer she slowed down and approached with caution.
Two outsiders were standing too close to her Alphess and another wolf that smelled of Honovi. On closer inspection she could smell blood and a hint of bear coming from Treason, this caused her to pick up her pace and pause beside the other female," Are you alright?" She asked her, concern showing her eyes before she glanced at the two loners," Am I missing something here?" Was the second question that she directed toward them.

As the Alphess spoke, another wolf made his presence silently known. The wolf, a loner judging by his scent, allowed his actions to speak for him when he came to stand supportively by Demetrios’ side. This surprised him greatly, but he was no less greatful for this wolf’s show of support. The lanky wolf turned his golden eyes onto the stranger for a moment and nodded his thanks before turning his attention back to his Alphess.
"The Beta position has long been vacant. If you are here to help, as you say you are, then you are welcome to it. I hope that you will complete your duties with the same vehemence you have shown in standing toe-to-toe with me, for there will be many of them. If your passion is as fiery as it seems, then I believe that you will be the beta that I need in order to catalyze these changes. I hope that I am not disappointed in this assumption, but something tells me that I will not be."
Demetrios nodded his head solemnly. There was no triumph to be found in his expression, but rather a stern sense of determination. There was much work to be done. Gaining a place as the Honovi Beta was only just the beginning. He bowed his head respectfully to his new Alphess and spoke, ”I shall not let you, nor the Honovi down M’Lady. I apologize for any disrespect I may have shown, but, as your new Beta, I swear to you and to all the wolves of the Honovi, you will not come to regret this decision.”
His eyes flicked briefly towards the male Honovi that had opposed him so strongly. The disbelieving look on his face may have caused a lesser wolf to gloat, but Demetrios would do no such thing. He understood the wolf’s resistance and he knew he would have to work hard to earn this one’s trust and respect. However, he was confident that, with time, even Mesh would see the wisdom in Lady Treason’s choice.
Another wolf, a female Honovi member this time, arrived then and spoke. As her words seemed to be addressed to their Alphess, he did not answer her directly but looked to Treason. ”Perhaps it would be useful if we all introduced ourselves.”, he suggested and then turned his gaze to take in all the wolves. ”For those who do not yet know, I am Demetrios, your new Honovi Beta. And your names are?”
He was already appraising their physical conditions, calculating what ranks each wolf might be suitable for. He would have to get to know them, of course. Their personal preferences would matter a great deal. He was very eager to get started, but the words the male and female Honovi members spoke to their Alphess had him turning to look back at her. ”M’Lady, if you would allow me….I think I may be able to help. Like my mother before me, I have been blessed with the power of botany. If we clean your wounds, I can then grow a bandage out of vines and leaves and weave it through your fur so it will not trouble you too much when you move. If you would rather send someone for White Magic, I understand. It might be a good idea to send someone for some herbs, either way. However, what skills I have are at your disposal if you should wish to use them.” He blinked slowly, watching his Alphess curiously to see what she would decide.

Twilight padded into the area where there were multiple wolves hanging out she howled softly a pretty sound busy barely loud enough to be heard over all the other wolves and shuffled her paws on the ground rustling the dirt and grass around her she scanned the area searching for a wolf that would be the alpha or close to an alpha, she eyes the other wolves suspiciously and carefully picking out any weaknesses if there were any in case she was attacked she swished her tail over the grass rustling it even more as a small bubble of excitement grew as she watched the other wolves she tried to keep her expression hidden as well as her own weaknesses and noted of the taller more muscular wolves reminding herself to stay far away from them for now. A cool breeze blew through her fur it felt good to be somewhat at ease at least more than usual.

The fleeting moment of serenity was just that - dissipating like opaque breath released on cold mornings. Silence possessed her, unlike trepidation it held her vigilantly observing the situation, refuting the choked down scoff that threatened to rumble from her pits. Like Mest she sought after the notion that blood does not earn you rank, it is earned rather than bequeathed. From downwind a loner transpired from what seemed thin air, her focus solely upon the authoritative male and the familiar Mest that juxtaposed. True, it had been what seemed ages since her last encounter with Treason, never mind another Honovi wolf. Perhaps this male had plans, after all he was the son derived from Acka, who's name held supremacy over most lineages. Jaded spheres remained locked, forced to narrow elliptically as a prominent brow furrowed dorsally. Still words did not come - perhaps seen as ignorance in the eyes of others, cowardice in the eyes of Mest who sought to stand by the absent Alpha. Upon her entrance into Honovi her and Treason had conflict; trust was scare among their understanding, and yet Treason found reason to allow her passage among the lands. Now was the time to prove herself. Southbound the bloodied alphess hurled herself between the parties, jowls flashing in a threat as she bravely defended her title. Minoe readied herself to brawl beside her, but an unexpected pact was created to usher a new era of pack growth. Jowls remained interlocked, pins erected as she continued to survey. Others amassed, little was known about them, of their original, their nature - and little did she care. Still it would prove prudent to acknowledge their presence so they can acknowledge hers in return. As far as they know she was a ghost, sitting pretty with her muzzle shut tight. She then geared forward to confront the newly appointed Beta; eyes softening upon approach and leather clad paws rhythmically clacking as she made herself known. @ I am Minoe. Barely of Honovi, yet I somehow sold my soul to this place." Gentled green orbs peered laterally towards Treason, whom she fully knew she owed her loyalty too. This male, however, posed many inquires as well as suspicions.

Eyes widened out of surprise when the loner Demetrios introduced himself as Honovi's new Beta. No one knew him and to just be handed a rank such as Beta was absurd to the she-wolf but she was not one to question Treason's reasoning. So perhaps this male was of some importance to the Alphess she Rhiannon lowered her head as a greeting to her new Beta," I am Rhiannon." She said in answer to his question of who they were, she watched Minoe with interest before returning her gaze to Treason," I do agree, we should clean your wound up and have him create a bandage to keep the wound clean while someone goes and get some herbs."
She said to her Alphess, it would not be wise to be stubborn at this time an injured or dead Alphess due to infection wold not help the pack right now. The she-wolf stepped slightly away from Treason so that Demetrios could inspect the wound, she didn't fully trust him she had learned the hard way about trusting another wolf completely so he would have to earn her trust and her respect. She hoped that he was what the pack needed to bring them together and bring them back to the glory that she had heard about. But if he betrayed them and their loyalty she would not question in killing him, but for now she needed to keep an eye on him.

Treason nodded her head in a agreement; a quick, subtle movement of her head. If she was to make peace with this wolf, then why not let such a display of trust be her olive branch? She shifted her weight to her less-injured side, fully exposing the vicious wound across her ribs. It was painful, and with every movement the great gashed seemed to gape like mouths, ribs showing through like teeth. There was little doubt in her mind that, even with bandages, she would require the assistance of White Magic if she did not wish to die from her wounds. Still, she turned to Rihannnon, her eyes calm and clear even in spite of her condition.
"I am as fine as one could be in this situation, though ultimately I doubt that these wounds are within the abilities of a regular wolf to heal. Still, perhaps bandages will keep dirt at bay while someone goes to retrieve White Magic. I cannot make such an arduous journey to the peak of the mountain in this condition, and do not dare to try and tempt fate. You have proven yourself a clever and determined wolf thus far, would you accomplish this task?" She gazed at Rhiannon, her eyes pools of molten gold. She did not ask such a thing lightly, for going to summon a wolf from the mountain was no menial thing.
From her peripheral vision, she could see the expression of surprise on her pack-mate's faces at the sudden change in tone. She could not blame them for their vexation, but she did trust her decision int he end. Honovi had stagnated over the seasons, there was little doubt of it, and though she did not believe them weak, she certainly knew that they needed an influx of new blood. All hierarchies suffered decay when they grew stale and closed, the affects of entropy undeniable even to the strongest of packs. Demetrios was her best hope at preventing such a thing from happening to her beloved Honovi. She would not watch her pack fall to its knees, now or ever, regardless of what it meant sacrificing. She did not doubt for a moment that she would even offer her life for her pack-mates if it came to that, for without them what reason did she have to continue? Her life was Honovi's, not her own.
"You may use whatever is within your ability, Demetrios, and I am grateful for your aid. I am afraid that no bandage will chase off infection, however. These lacerations are deep and have been left open for too long a period, not to mention the fact that they were made by a bear's claws. If left alone without the help of White Magic, it is only a matter of time before they festered even despite our best efforts. Trusting otherwise would prove foolhardy at best."
She closed her eyes for a moment, a tight snarl curling across her muzzle as a wave of pain rolled beneath her ribs, vicious enough to make her nauseous. Never in her life had she been in this much pain, and never in her life did she need to conceal it more. Her insistence on strength was not out of personal pride, but rather out of pride her for pack. If she had not been brought down by a bear, then she would certainly not be brought down by a wound, even one as severe as this. She hoped that perhaps her tenacity would represent the resolve that she knew ran strong in her pack. For that, pain was a small price to pay in the end.
