Fierfly:
Sleep was impossible. All these strange words whirled around her head. Botany, Power, learning to use Botany. What did it all mean?! No, Fierfly wasn't tired, but she did feel terribly, terribly sick, almost like she might lose her last meal.
She sat up in response to Azi's chiding. She could feel her legs and shoulders shaking, both with fear and exhaustion as she tried to comprehend and tried to fight off the claustrophobia of the unknown. She forced herself to take several, deep breaths although they were terribly ragged and each threatened to end with her collapsing and blacking out. She'd never fainted before in her life and didn't plan to start now.
Fierfly carefully swallowed and tried to remain calm...it didn't work all that well.
"I'm awake," she barked, a bit sharper than she meant it to sound. "I'm awake but-" surely they'd take her for an idiot. It seemed that everyone understood this strange magic but her. They'd think she was stupid. But she wasn't going to learn unless she asked. She sucked in another deep breath and finally burst. "What. Just. Happened??? What is a Power? What is Botany? Azi how did you get here so quickly? I don't understand!!!"
There. She'd said it.

Azi:
”Such a smart wolf like you is sure to conquer it,” Azi said to Eclipse, then she turned back to Fierfly as a sharp bark cracked through the air. Azi’s dazzling eyes studied the younger wolf as she gathered her thoughts. ”Well?” she asked, impatient for Fierfly to finish her ‘but-’
The creamy tan she-wolf listened to the other wolf’s outburst. Azi smiled patronizingly as the Fierfly’s confusion was expressed. Azi shook her head and spoke, ”Darling, haven’t you ever heard of the powers? Most wolves around in and around the valley have heard stories around the magic in this land.” Azi lifted a paw lightly and elegantly. ”There is a great Power within this valley. The Power created an immortal White Wolf known as White Magic. She who gave birth to three White Wolves who have chosen some wolves to inherit special abilities from the Power. Wolves such as myself have sought out the Power.” Azi placed her lifted paw on her chest as she said ‘myself.’ ”I was given the power known as Teleportation.”

Eclipse started thinking of plants, and started growing random herbs. He picked up one in his mouth, and chewed it up. It tasted horrible, but when he tried to get it out of his mouth with his paw, it felt much better. He hadn't noticed how much they had been aching until he got the sludge on his paw. He looked at the rest of the herb, it was a plant called.... Rosemary. Well, use for Rosemary! Aching paws. Eclipse thought. One really leafy plant smelled slightly horrible, so he revised it would be a bad idea to chew it. He turned to a more flowery plant, and glanced at Fierfly and Azi. If he killed himself, he had a feeling they would both be mad. Eclipse quickly looked back at the plant. He cocked his head, and started trying to mash it on a rock with his paw. That didn't work, so he picked up a rock and grided it into a kind of pulp. He put it on his slightly sore shoulder. Nothing. He took the rock and cut himslef a little, and put some of the stuff on it and it stopped hurting him so badly.

Fierfly:
The younger she-wolf could feel hot tears of frustration, confusion, fear and overwhelm start to build up behind her eyes. She stood, her legs shaking, but straight as she stared at Azi, waiting for her to finish her speech.
"No," her voice was soft again, she was done yelling, but it was also strained and measured and unnervingly steady. "No Azi, I've never heard of the Power. I was not born here. I was not raised here. I know none of this." she blinked as the tears filled her eyes and intruded her vision. "My home is gone! My parents are gone! Both ravaged and killed by fire! And I can never go back there. I've been left in this world - in this place I don't understand - Alone!"
She no longer shook as the hot tears spilled down her face and moistened the dirt below her. Gone was the timid pup. Her legs were straight and firm as she stood tall. Her head, previously bowed or held low was now high, and matched Azi's ounce for ounce with forwardness and purpose. Her burning, searing, flame-blue eyes bored into Azi's amethyst and she found herself suddenly shaking. Her shoulders trembled and her body was racked with sobs as the memories suddenly came back clear. The fire, the screams, the scent of burning fur-
She cried silently, more tears burning down her face and searing her heart as the salt stung the scars still on it. Why couldn't Azi understand her pain? Why?

Azi: The she-wolf tutted softly after Fierfly cried. Azi gathered her thoughts before speaking. Her voice was softer than usual almost motherly when she finally spoke, ”Sweetheart,” Azi only used the nickname ‘Sweetheart’ when she was being comforting or talking to pups, ”we’ve all had a rough time at one time in our lives. My four siblings died when I was 7 months old. It seems you’ve have a rougher time than most, but you can still pick yourself up. You’re not alone, well not anymore. You have me.” Azi felt that she should give some physical comfort to Fierfly like a hug or something. So, Azi put her paw over Fierfly’s shaking shoulders.
”As for the Power, it’s a strange thing that most wolves still don’t understand. I assumed that you’d at least heard something of the Power and your origins since it is obvious that you have roots here,” Azi gestured to Fierfly’s red and orange markings with an elegant paw.

Eclipse looked up, startled. He wrapped his injured paw in moss and stood back up. He had roots here, his mother's mother had been from the surrounding mountains. Eclipse sat back down sheepishly, he was horrible at this stuff, besides, if he got angry... Eclipse shuddered. He growled vary softly in mild annoyance with himself, but he felt like this would be a good time to interject. "I recently lost my entire family, my mother, father, brother and sister." he said, wanting to add, "I killed them, because I was mad at my sister." He didn't, but they might see the black side of him one day. There was a reason that his power mark was over his golden eye. He nodded when Azi mentioned Fierfly's colors. "Other wolves don't have colors like that."

Fierfly:
She was suddenly embarrassed at her outburst. Her father had used to joke that she would have a temper as fiery as her coat, she just didn't use it very much. Still, Azi and Eclipse were being very gracious, sympathetic even, and she was very grateful for their support.
"I am so sorry, both of you. I know how much it hurts." Seven months? She had nothing to complain about. Absolutely nothing. And a whole family? Parents and siblings? They had to have been in so much pain...
Her head dropped again, "Thank-you for understanding, I was beginning to think that no one ever could." It felt good to let it out. Strangely bittersweet. Was her heart starting to heal? Maybe, it would take time.
Her ears perked and eyes dried as Azi soothed her and both mentioned her colorful coat. She cocked her head to the left, intrigued and confused. "Roots? ...I don't think so. I lived in that valley my whole life, my parents never left it." She was suddenly curious what other wolves looked like. If not all had such vibrant colors then what was the difference?

Azi:
Azi smiled at Fierfly. Something was fluttering inside Azi. Usually, she didn’t bother to comfort other wolves when they broke down. What did it matter to Azi that others were hurting? But for some reason, she’d stepped up and encouraged Fierfly to move on. Maybe it was because she’d decided to take this young she-wolf under her wing and Azi would rather not to loose her student to insanity before Azi could impart more than the most basic of information.
At Fierfly’s last question, Azi’s musical laugh flew through the air. ”Darling, if you have the vibrant colors that you find in a rainbow on your pelt, that’s because your family originates from this valley. If your parents always lived outside the valley, then their grandparents or great grandparents must’ve come from this very valley.”

( Rykett) Eclipse:Eclipse smiled as Fierfly seemed to have calmed down. Eclipse jumped, looking behind him as something rustled. Growling softly, he approached. Tensing, he watched the bush until he pounced. As he landed, a rabbit shot out. Eclipse grew some vines quickly, making a trap for the rabbit. As planned, the rabbit ran right into the vines. Eclipse pounced on it, closing his jaws on it. Pleased with himself, he took it back to the females. His blue eye glinted benevolently, but it faded vary soon. Eclipse's darker side simply found joy in killing. It vaguely annoyed him, but he really didn't care vary much. He dropped the rabbit at Azi and Fierfly's feet. "Anyone here hungry?" he asked.

Fierfly:
The she-wolf found her words faltering even as she said them. To be truthful she hadn't really thought about it much. Had her parents really never left the valley? She'd never asked. She'd really never much wondered about it before. Thinking about it more deeply she realized that they couldn't have been born and raised only in that small dell. They had to have had families too, but she'd never met any other wolves in that territory. It was just her and her parents.
The truth hit her like a shock from an electric outlet. Her parents could have come from the valley. Maybe she wasn't so alien to the magic here after all. But if this was true, then why had they not told her about her roots? Now that she really thought about it, they'd deftly avoided her questions about the Mountain and it's surrounding land. Was she just imagining it? Maybe, but a new surge of curiosity overtook her. Maybe it had been her parents, or her grandparents, maybe even her great-great-great grandparents. But a part of her belonged here and the blood from this Valley flowed in her veins. Azi was right; no matter how far back the connection went, she was home, and she had friends. She smiled, feeling happy for the first time since the fire.
Eclipse had wandered off and now returned with a rabbit. The shy grin broadened and she tilted her head from side to side, thinking about it. "I could eat," she said finally, and accepted a small chunk of mean to gnaw on while she finished calming herself down. She was home, and as long as she was home she had nothing to worry about.

Azi:
Well, that was that. Fierfly seemed to have accepted her origins and the existence of the power. Azi could get back to teaching the younger wolf and, of course, flirting with Eclipse, who seemed to have run off after a rabbit. She'd have to wait a bit before throwing anymore flirtatious comments his way. Azi turned to Fierfly, instead, "Now, I'd guess that you might want to hear some of the legends of this valley. Isn't that right, darling? Maybe the one of how the sun rises and sets or how the Power created White Magic or about the Great Fire. We have many tales told through the generations here."
Eclipse returned with his rabbit. At the sight of his successful hunt, Azi exclaimed, "Why, you are the skilled hunter, aren't you? You caught that so quickly, I'm amazed. Your skill even manages to brush my perfection and I'm the best hunter this valley's ever known!" At Eclipse's question, Azi spoke again, "What a handsome gentleman! I'm absolutely starved. You might not believe since I look so magnificent, but I really do need something to eat." Azi bent a tugged away a medium sized chunk of tender rabbit flesh.

Eclipse: Eclipse smiled as the females ate his rabbit. Then he ate the last of the rabbit and smiled. "I know a few nice songs, and a story of two males from just outside the valley." He cocked his head and smiled wide. He grew some plants around his paws, and considered making some poppies. He yawned, and sat down. He started growing things absent-minded and a strange puffy rose grew in front of Azi. He then noticed and a poppy popped out of the ground at his feet. He curled his tail over his paws and started singing something softly. "Let the bears sleep, let the birds fly," The rest was inaudible.

Fierfly:
It really wasn't so bad to be in the Valley - as different as it was, she could learn and she could cope with Azi and Eclipse to show her around and teach her. As Azi suggested beginning with legends, she gulped down the last of her snack and listened attentively. "Oh yes!" she tried to remember what Azi had said earlier. "I want to hear about the -" she concentrated - what was it? "The three White Wolves, the powers they bestow." Azi's power was Teleportation, and Eclipse's was Botany. Were there other powers? How would one become chosen? She had to know.
Eclipse began growing a soft blanket of grass and the odd bloom would appear here or there. She was somewhat startled to actually feel the tiny blades of grass growing under her paws, but it was wonderful at the same time and she enjoyed the cool grassy tickle on her paw-pads. She glanced over at Eclipse as he also offered stories and began humming a tune to himself. Sleeping bears and flying birds: it sounded like a winter's lullaby - she'd have to hear the rest of that too - there was just so much too learn...
((I'm thinking that Azi starts the legend and we close the thread so we can get them roaming and begin teaching Fier about the Valley. Locations for the next threads are your picks if anyone has a good idea and if Eclipse is still interested *hint, hint* we could throw some friendly rivalry between Azi and Fier in there too. Any objections?))

((Sounds good to me! How about they take a stroll down the Amoux Creek as a traveling thread? Then we could send them to the Lunar Meadow. I thought the glowing flowers might be a good example of the Power's influence and maybe they could create a romantic setting for Eclipse and Fier.))
Azi:
On to the lessons! Azi was excited to show off her valley expertise to Fierfly. The Whites Wolves seemed a perfect place to start. As Azi began speaking, she strolled away, expecting Fierfly to walk beside her as she lectured and Eclipse to follow. "Well, darling, there are actually four White Wolves, but only three of them give out powers. They're called the Power Trio. Their names are Taboo, Sheba, and Geist. They are sisters and each gives out powers to different alliances. Taboo gives out powers to Good wolves, Sheba gives out to Neutral wolves, and Geist to Evils. The powers can be organized into different categories. They could stem from one of the four elements; Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, or from one of the other four categories; Psychological, Physical, Offense, and Defense.
"The three sisters' mother is called White Magic and she offers healing to injured wolves. Say if you got a broken leg that won't mend right, head up to White Magic and she'll poof it back to nearly as good as new! White Magic was created by the Power. It sent her to live with the wolves in this valley, but later she settled up in the mountains after having her pups. After her appearance in the valley, the Power's influence on the valley strengthened and wolves began experiencing changes in their fur color. Some lucky wolves got powers without even visiting one of the sisters. There are many things in this valley that have been changed because of the Power. My mother told me that the moon we see each night is the eye of the Power watching over its creations..." Azi padded out of the barrens, explaining away.

Eclipse: Eclipse sang until the end, but didn't seem fond of sharing it at that moment. Not to mention Azi had started her story. He nodded, thinking of the version that his mother had told him. She had always said that White Magic had been a gift to the wolves of the valley, to heal and protect them. Other legends, like the Element Wolves, where common among dentime stories. Eclipse's favorite story had been about the wolf who hadn't ate the chipmunk. Eclipse smiled at the thought. Or maybe it had been the one about the wolf who grew a beanstalk to see if he could get to the moon. He smiled at the remembrance. All three pups had been rolling with laughter and joy. He wondered what kind of story Fierfly would like to hear after how the White Wolves came to be. He decided on the Beanstalk one. Eclipse suspected that the wolf who made the story had seen another wolf use a power. Eclipse listened to Azi's version of how the White Wolves came to be. "My Mother always called them the White Witches." Eclipse said to Fierfly, softly. Then he trotted after Azi with a trail of green behind him. The sun a bright fireball in the sky. What his mother had always said was the fury of the power, ready to come down if it was angry like so many seasons ago in the Great Fire. That story was scary and frighting. ~Exit Eclipse~
