RykettSavu raised his tail and yipped to his mate. "We're here!" as he created a small rise and spotted the vast lake. He cringed slightly as he saw a little cave on the other side. That's where he had met Blaise and-Savu shook his head. That was in the past. He could never redeem himself from that myriad of mistakes and wrong doings. However, he could feel remorse and press forward. And that's what he was doing. As the copper spot that was Jekyll arrived beside him, a little out of breath but fine, Savu turned to him. Would you like to learn how to swim?"Jekyll looked up at his ashy grey father. Was this what a father was supposed to look like? Was this what a father was supposed to do? Teach and protect? Jekyll wouldn't know for he had been traveling for most of his short life. "Uh, I guess..." He gazed skeptically at the shimmering waters. Savu chuckled. "You don't have to if you don't want to squirt." he gazed down at his son with pride. Sure he was small and wasn't the healthiest, but that didn't matter, because that's how Mysti was when he fell in love with her.

Mysti:
Kai Lake shimmered beautifully under the Autumn sun. A flock of southbound geese rested on the slightly rippling surface. The bright blue of the sky was somewhat faded due to an oncoming storm. The sun was on its daily descent as three wolves arrived at the lake Filled with euphoria, Mysti looked the picturesque landscape.
She felt as though she'd finally received the happy ending that every little pup imagined for their life. And she had two of the greatest wolves to enjoy it with. After seasons of hardship, they were finally together and happy at last. Mysti bounded to the lake shore. She splashed eagerly into the cool water. Water was her element. "Come you two!" she called to her two beloved companions, "It's really shallow here, Jekyll, so you don't have to worry about swimming unless you wade in deeper."

Savu nudged the sleepy looking Jekyll along. "I promise we'll rest soon." He whispered to his son, voice overflowing with affection. The ashy grey make took a running jump and canon-balled into the lake. Sinking down, he opened his sapphire eyes and began to tread the water, pushing his heavy body to the surface. The soaking wet male bobbed behind his Nate before pushing back to the shallows. Digging his paws into the sand he grinned, determined to enjoy himself with no guilt plaguing his mind. Of course it was always there, but today Savu was going to ignore it.
Jekyll glanced skeptically at the softly lapping waters. "Are you sure?" Jekyll spoke while sniffing the waters edge. His bright eyes surveyed his parents. They looked happy enough, surely the water was safe. Dipping his paws in one at a time, he shivered. It was pretty chilly, but he'd get used to it, right?

Mysti:
"Incoming!" Mysti laughed as Savu leaped into the water. The resulting splash soaked Mysti's grey and blue fur. She shook off the majority of the water in the traditional canine manner. Her powermark glowed as she returned a splash towards Savu. She galloped away, through the shallows of the lake. The clear liquid flashed upward in fans as her white paws crashed downward. The sun touched on the mountains' edge, highlighting them with orange light. It sent golden sunbeams against the dark clouds, but the light failed to penetrate the depths of the storm clouds.
Mysti glanced towards the shore. Jekyll hesitated at the water's edge. He shivered as he dipped his paws into the lake. Concern for her pup suddenly became her main emotion. Slowing her pace, she waded towards her pup. "If you're cold, Jekyll, we could call it a night now. We have traveled quite a distance today."

Savu: As Mysti turned her attention back to her- their son Savu did as well. The large grey male stood behind Mysti as she spoke, giving Jekyll an encouraging nod and smile. The fun was just beginning, Tonight was going to be wonderful, even if they just lay on the beach, staring at stars. The ragged Savu loved his son already and didn't want him to get ill because of him. Too many bad things had happened because of him....
Jekyll: The water was indeed chilly, and his thin coat didn't help much. He just really wanted to go home. Mother waded up to the shallows and asked him if he would rather den up. He would like too indeed, but he didn't want to spoil their fun....he took another step into the water. As he did so. His leg felt heavy and his others refused to move. Savu, dad, joined in on the ordeal. His sapphire eyes shot him an encouraging glance that Jekyll avoided by looking at his toes. "Yes, I'm very tired." He whispered, ashamed of showing weakness in the presence of his father. Jekyll retreated from the waters.

Mysti:
Jekyll seemed heartbroken that he was unable to participate in the fun as much as wished. Or perhaps, it was shame that accounted for his downcast expression. It would be just like Jekyll to feel bad that their water fun had come to an end for his well-being. Smiling comforting, Mysti bent down to the pup’s level to meet his amber eyes. ”It’s alright, sweetheart. We can go swimming again tomorrow. Now let’s get you dried off.” Mysti joined Jekyll on shore. Reclining beside him, she blew gently on his wet fur in an attempt to dry it faster. Tiny pebbles clung to Mysti’s soaked grey fur. Maybe they’d be more comfortable in a den, but the darkening sky was half clear. It might be nice to sleep under the stars that seemed to sparkle into existence one by one. A bright moon highlighted the edges of a cloud that it was hiding behind. Looking towards Savu, ”Should we find a den for tonight?” she asked, ”Or does sleeping under the night sky seem better?” Either was appealing to the she-wolf as long as her family slept beside her.

Jekyll: The pup still felt guilty about ruining their fun, but he felt slightly more optimistic by the comforting and supportive voices of his parents. It was strange, thinking like he had two guardians. It was no longer just him and his mother, Savu was here as well. Savu was his father. Jekyll didn't truly understand the meaning of a father, and so took it to be a male mother. "I don't mind," The small russet pup rasped.
Savu: The now wet grey male listened to his mates concern over their son, and his heart swelled. This was no fantasy, this was real. What he and Mysti had was real. No happily ever after for them. No, their path wouldn't be paved and gilded with gold. It has not and will not continue to. Their path had split for awhile, but had rejoined. The future looked bright, but not easier. But they could get through it....together. "Let's sleep in a cozy den, sleeping is always better close together." He chuckled, a light hint of glee inflecting in his baritone voice.

Mysti:
”Agreed! Mysti smiled as she responded to Savu. Her sky blue eyes scanned the surrounding area for a den. There! A small cavern was eroded out of a shelf of limestone. ”I see one!” Mysti exclaimed. She gently picked up Jekyll. He’d already travelled far enough, today, and Mysti wasn’t about to let him walk another step until he’d gotten a good night’s sleep. She padded towards and inside the den.
The air was cool and humid in the cave, but it would soon fill with the warmth of three wolves. Many other wolves seemed to have also found shelter in this den for the thing was filled with innumerable, overlapping scents. Mysti set Jekyll down and lay down beside him. She nuzzled him, lovingly. ”Now get some sleep.” She decided a lullaby may help, so softly she began singing, ”You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please, don’t take my sunshine away.”

Jekyll: The russet pup sighed his quiet relief as Mysti gently picked him up by his scruff. Luckily he could breathe fine as she carried him to the nearby den. The limestone was white and surprisingly soft. Not in a spongey, squishy way...but more of a smooth, gentle way. Kinda like Savu-er, father. He was a large, strong make with a dominant personality, yet he was smooth and gentle. Jekyll smiled faintly as he was set down, feeling rather lethargic. Snuggling beside his mother, her sweet song put him right to sleep, his ears still perked for her voice.
Savu: The large ashy hewolf blinked lovingly with his heavy lidded blue eyes, watching his mate lovingly transport his pup to the den. Savu tried not to think of the den as being reused, it made uncomfortable memories resurface. Instead he thought of the carved crevice as theirs. It was their den, although certainly only temporarily. The withered grey male smiled wider as he rested his drying body on the other side of Mysti, laying his broad head on her delicate shoulders. He listened to her song closely, taking the words to heart. While the lullaby was surely meant for Jekyll, he found himself relating it to them. He wasn't happy without Mysti, he never was and never would be. "You are my sunshine." He whispered huskily as she finished and Jekyll fell into slumber. Would she agree to his subtle hint. Would she like to have more pups? Or was she not interested in siblings for Jekyll? He didn't want to endanger her life either...

Mysti:
Between her two favorite wolves in the world, Mysti couldn’t imagine being happier. She wondered if she’d ever been this content in all her life. There had always been something bothering her in every moment of happiness, but for just a moment, everything was perfect. Savu’s words fit right in. ”And you’re mine,” Mysti whispered back, leaning against Savu. They were each other’s worlds. Without one, the other would fall apart. Events of the past had proven this fact. They’d found a delicate balance together between insanity and depression. They fought off the darkness with the light they could only shine together. Now they had Jekyll and their lives seemed perfect.
Yet, one thought wriggled into existence. She glanced down at Jekyll, the only surviving pup of her litter. He’d never known other pups. ”Savu, I’ve been thinking. Maybe we could give him some siblings. He’s grown up without any friends anywhere near his age. No one to play with. Savu, I never want to leave you again. I want our family to grow up together. We could find a really nice den and raise our pups. Jekyll would finally be truly happy.”

Savu: The great gray let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He was incredibly relieved to hear that their minds were in syncs with eachother even after all this time. Savu closed his big blue eyes, only yesterday had he been permanently reunited with the one and only live of his life. And she had only had one pup to protect and love. The world was getting warmer, she could hunt, and he could hunt for her and Jekyll. Their family could grow in a safe, plentiful land near the forest. Although he was scared for her and the future pups health, he knew that he would spoil her rotten. Perhaps he could reside just outside of Eternal Snowfall lands, and they could rendezvous together and he would be able to live out his life happily. Savu wasn't young and something in the back of his mind told him that his time would come in the years that lay ahead of his paws. "A sibling or two would be wonderful." He blinked slowly, nuzzling her gently. -fade oooout-
-while Mysti and Savu are...preoccupied.....-
Jekyll: The reddish pup woke with a start, shivering. He looked over to where his mother and father slept, they had rolled away from him during the night. The young pup frowned, furrowing his brow over his small eyes. He was truly weak. Too weak to be snuggled with apparently. Perhaps if he had swam like they wanted him to, they would be curled around him right now. Swimming. The water was sure to be cold right now....but morning was nigh. And if he could master swimming by then, he could show them! Then they would be proud. Then they could truly be a family. He wouldn't slow them down like he used to. He just had to swim! His puppy mind was groggy from the mystical mists of sleep, causing him to lose common sense. He was a pup who couldn't breathe well and thus had little energy. His guardians were asleep and the water was as cold as a glacier. Truly a recipe for disaster. And a disaster it would be. Jekyll gritted his teeth as he began to pad across the rocky shore towards the waters edge. He pushed through the dead stalks of lake reeds and splashed one law into the lapping waters. The frozen night was quiet save for the distant calls of other wolves. His determination hardened in his heart as he took a few more strides into the waters...kick kick kick. Kick kick kick. He tread water as the ground fell away. The Amber wolf kept his head barely above the waters surface as he swam. Breathe in breathe out. He struggled to keep his breath steady. He was doing it! He was swimming! Suddenly something slimy brushed his paw and Jekyll flipped out. With a erratic jerk if his leg and a squeal from his lips he slipped under the water. Eyes jolted open and the pups began to lash out at the water with random, unsuccessful patterns. He took a needy gulp of air in as his muzzle peaked into the night before slipping back under. Water flooded into his stunted, malformed lungs, choking him. Tears crashed out of his eyes only to be lost in the clear waters of Kai Lake. His body was growing increasingly cold, his attempts to claw back to the surface unsure and few inbetween. Darkness encroached on the edges of his vision before Jekyll began to breathe the water, inhaling it willingly. He accepted this. He had wanted this since he was born. He was always a burden on his mother. He shouldn't have survived this long anyways. Besides, he had heard them talking. They were going to replace him anyways. His throat was raw as emotions built up inside if him, his heart pumping randomly to blood that was rapidly chilling. Darkness overtook his mind, his legs stilling as he sunk downwards, his heart slowing to a stop....
"Goodbye Mommy."

Mysti:
Jekyll's squeal reached Mysti's ears, jerking her from sleep. Her sky blue eyes flew open and alarm filled her, though she couldn't fathom why. She glanced at Savu beside her and smiled, then she glanced towards where Jekyll should be. Her smile disappeared. He was gone. Mysti jolted to her white paws. "Jekyll," she called softly, scared. No response. "Jekyll?" Her voice grew more panicked as she galloped out of the den and there was no sign of Jekyll. Grey tinted the sky as dawn approached. There was a splash and Mysti turned just in time to see a russet muzzle disappear beneath the water's surface. "Jekyll!" Mysti screamed and took off towards the lake as if rockets were attached to her.
The frantic mother dove into the water. Her power activated sending a blue glow into the black water. She pushed the water with her paws and it propelled her farther than usual as she used River to aid her swimming. It almost felt natural, but that was probably just the urgency of the moment. Jekyll's small, sinking body came into view. It was blurry because of the water that Mysti's eyes had to penetrate. She tipped her muzzle above the surface for a last desperate gasp before she dove downwards. Pushing herself towards Jekyll as fast as she could, Mysti reached for him with a paw. His amber eyes were half-closed and a trail of tiny bubbles escaped his open maw. Mysti redirect her power to focus of the water around her pup. She pulled the water surrounding Jekyll towards her and pulled the pup as consequence. She grabbed his scruff as soon as he came into reach then swum for the surface.
Her head exploded out of the water and she took an deep breath in between her teeth and through her nose. She made her way towards land, slowly. Mysti was exhausted. She'd exerted herself both physically and mentally in her desperate attempt to save her pup. Jekyll hung limply in her grip. He was probably exhausted, too, but they were out of danger and everything was going to be alright. She reached the shore and padded onto solid dry ground. Mysti set Jekyll down. She crouched down and craddled him with her paws. "Jekyll, it's alright now you're safe." No response. The same fear that Mysti had felt as she realized Jekyll was missing filled her, but stronger. "Sweetheart?" She jostled him gently to wake the pup. He flopped lifelessly. " Please! You're safe! Wake up! Jekyll!" His body was cold in her grasp, no shaky movement of breath pressed up against her pawpads, and no little heartbeat beat rhythmically under the skin. As these facts dawned on Mysti one by one, she sobbed. She repeated his name over and over, hoping vainly for a response.

Savu woke with a start as Mysti left his side. A sudden chill snaked down his spine, raising his ruff into spikes. Jumping to his paws he scrambled after his mate. The slender gray and blue speckled shewolf leaped into the water. A name rang in his ears, the frantic bark of his love pounding his head. "Jekyll," He breathed, sapphire blue eyes widening. "Jekyll!" The large make loped over to the edge of the reeds, pushing his large body through the grasses. "JEKYLL!!!" His loud bark seemed like a muted whisper as he saw his mate dive down. Savu was frozen, legs shaking, muscles clenched. Mysti and Jekyll was under the surface of the lake. His tail twitched, erect in the cold night air. They were gone too long. They were dying! He had to help! Frantically, he stepped into the sludge. His mind buzzing. Just as he was about to throw himself into Kai Lake, Mysti broke through the surface. She was okay! Jekyll was clutched in her maw. He ran along the shore to meet them. Mysti laid Jekyll down on the pebbly silt. Savu could finally breathe. "Thank the power, you're alright. If I lost you two-" He looked into his sons eyes. The beautiful rounds that glistened with intelligence and gleaned with childlike wonder. They were dull, as glassy as a fishes'. He subconsciously heard Mysti's cries. But he was in shock, staring down at his son. His son he had net a few days prior. The moments Savu had planned played out in front of his eyes.
Their first hunt together. Jekyll smiling up at him, grasping a grouse in his tiny muzzle. Telling stories in a warm summer field surrounded by fireflies. Telling him not to stay out too late with a certain young lady.
Gone. All these moments stolen in an instant. Savu would never see Jekyll grow up, never see him fill out with muscles. Muscles that he earned hunting for his mother and little siblings.
"Jekyll...."

Mysti:
Savu was beside her. His voice was soft and distant and he spoke their pup’s name as the realization came that they’d lost him. Mysti wanted to bury her head in Savu’s fur and cry away the hurt, but she couldn’t let go. She clutched the freezing body between numb paws, mentally refusing to let the pup leave her. But there was nothing she could do. It was over. She struggled for months, caring for Jekyll, loving Jekyll, completely devoted to Jekyll. But in the end, none of that matter. He was dead and there wasn’t anything Mysti could do. Maybe if she been better with her power or if she’d been more alert or more careful or if she hadn’t pushed Jekyll to learn to swim as much, things would be… She shouldn’t dwell on the past… but that was all she seemed to do. Regret and despair because of her past. Just as things were starting to look up, just as Mysti began to look towards the future, another heartbreaking event swept her off her feet and was destined to haunt her thoughts forever.
Mysti cried until she felt numb. She felt empty. The world seemed empty. Taking a shuddering breath, she looked to Savu who seemed as shocked and numb as she was. ”I couldn’t… I can’t… What do we do?” Without Jekyll, Mysti’s life felt like it lacked all direction and meaning. She felt like she should be doing something, but what?

Savu hadn't spent long with his son, their son. But knowing him and the. Losing him was still hard. The hardest part for him was watching Mysti grieve. The shewolf had devoted her life to the russet hepup. She had traveled to the great Mage, White Magic, to ensure his health. And then, just as life was beginning to look up again...everything was taken. Jekyll was taken. Savu, paws heavy with grief, scooted over to her side. "Mysti," His voice cracked with emotion. Mysti was his world, and he felt pain for betraying her and destroying those innocent shewolves in her name. It wasn't right, for everything terrible to inflict itself upon the shewolf. "I'm sorry." he apologized fiercely, for Jekyll's death. For leaving her. For hurting her. After a moment of silence, he began to nudge her away from his limp body. Savu had to bury his son, then they would leave this cursed lake and find solace. He knew it was hard for Mysti to accept Jekyll's fate, but clinging onto a lost cause was not healthy. And so he forced the corpse away from his mate and began to dig a small hole in the moist sand and pebbles.
His big paws shoveled and scraped at the sharp, chilly sand. Pebbles sliced at his pads, but all was numb. The cold, wet hole got deeper and deeper, he wouldn't have any scavengers eat his son. Savu finished the hole, it was round, and deep, each layer of sediment readily visible. In the bottom, water pooled up. With a deep, stuttering, breath, the large male fetched some dry moss and ripped reeds from the earth. He laid down the plant matter to sheiks his son's body from the cold water. It wouldn't do him any good now, but...Savu felt like it was the right thing to do. Sorrowfully, he turned back to Jekyll's corpse and lowered it gently into the pit. Stepping back he wiped a paw over his face, leaving a trail of sand and tears. "Mysti..." He beckoned her to bury him.
