Auroras:
It was a typical winter day. The icy wind whipped her fur, the once green and brown earth now covered in fresh layers of crunchy snow, light snowfall blurring her vision. Normal, nothing out of place and nothing (that she could see) would hurt her. The female's paws cautiously tread through the white cover and looked out for danger and prey. She wasn't particularly hungry, but it was always nice to know where the food was at. Her eyes flicked from tree to tree, stone to stone, water to.... Wait, water? Auroras sprinted quickly over to the small pond of half-frozen water, looking to soothe her sore throat and dehydrated system. As the she-wolf approached the blue pool, she instinctively skidded as fast as she could, to a halt. Her small paws just cutting short of falling into the thin-sheeted ice slush. A wave of relief washed over her. That was way too close.
She parked her backside on the freezing snow her right paw lightly touched the thin cover. It cracked under her touch. The female flinched and pulled her paw back onto the safe land. With a slight bit of hesitation, she dipped her muzzle between the gap in the ice and lapped at the soothing water. It was icy and sharp on her tongue, soothing but strong all at once. As bitter as the winds were, it was nice to feel the wind when it whipped her pitch black fur. Strangely, it made her feel free, pleasanty suprising feeling to have. Her blue eyes looked fixedly at the water that sat at her muzzle, small ripples headed outward until they touched each edge of the pond. The female was at peace, but also bored.
And oh so lonely...
