Kanga;
Two large ears flicked toward the small female as she voiced her personal question. His words seemed almost to bolster her, and with a tiny little sound unbecoming of her, she asked it. Kanga blinked silver-ringed eyes slowly, knowing his answer almost before she had finished speaking. "Yes." His dull, booming voice was final in that one word. So absolute was his resolve while uttering that sentence that it would be impossible to miss. No goofy smile quirked his lip in that moment. It had almost come down to it multiple times throughout the brothers' lives, and each time left no room for doubt. "And yes." Not many scenarios lead the twins to considering whether or not they would lay down their life for each other, but there had been a few instances. Not much could threaten them, but when something did, it was formidable enough to pose all sorts of other problems as well.
"Don't go getting any ideas in your swelled head Kanga, just..."
He smirked, the seriousness washing away—though his smile wasn't so large as to turn the conversation into a joke. He meant what he said. He found it curious, almost funny, that Kaily would have told him not to get a swelled head in relation to her wishing him dead. "You mean I don't mean enough to you for you to wish me dead?" His tongue lolled for a moment. "Or is it that I mean a great deal to you, and you want a rough estimate of just how many things might be coming my way to try and end this game I call life?" His tail swayed behind him. Her wording had confused him a little bit, but he had an idea that his question should sort it out. He didn't think she wanted him dead.
But then again...
In Kanga's experience, it was the little ones you had to keep an eye on.

Kailypso:
Kanga's smile had been pushed up a bit at the corners before - now it melted. No goofy, crooked grin, even his eyes flickered down to a milder, less vibrant gleam - gone was the mischievous sparkle. Oh, she'd done it know - it was going to get all serious and depressing and...
"Yes." his voice was resolute, his expression was as frank and sober as she'd ever seen it. "And Yes."
She should have known, one might have guessed without venturing to ask such a personal question. The two were nearly inseparable - opposites that completed each other rather than clashed - oh, surely they still clashed at times, but it was a friendly, familiar rubbing. Two gentle giants colliding with differing interests, but all with the same loyalty and tie to each other where they would be willing to give their lives for the other. She wondered for a moment if she might venture to ask how Kanga thought he would feel if Manaaki actually did give his life for him one day. One day, something happened - someone (goodness knew who - not much could get Kanga down) threatened his baby brother's life...and Manaaki took the threat for him. Watching Manaaki's life get taken in the stead of his own - how would he...? Could anyone...? Why had she asked? It wasn't a fair question to put to anyone, not really - the full depth of asking if they believed someone would save their life - give their life for their own...who was anyone to judge whose life was worth going on and whose wasn't?
There was no judge.
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath to calm herself and glanced over at Kanga. Oh blast it! He had the little impish twinkle in his eyes again! He was going to say something witty now! "You mean I don't mean enough to you for you to wish me dead? Or is it that I mean a great deal to you, and you want a rough estimate of just how many things might be coming my way to try and end this game I call life?"
A lip lifted and she turned her face to him. "I ask out of morbid curiosity." she drawled sarcastically. Oh for pity's sake, calm down, don't be aggressive, her teeth hid behind her lips again and the agitation in her voice cooled and faded. "I say don't get any ideas because life is too short and too hard without some stupid chances." she looked back over their cliff again, eyeing the border of the pack of murderers. "Don't get any ideas in that swelled head of yours Kanga - no life is worth throwing away - I don't care who you are: and you mean enough to me to wish to a Power I don't believe in that you don't go first of the two of us." ...wow...she either needed to find a rock and start preaching to the Valley or just shut up. She opted for shutting up - or at least a subject change to something more cheerful.
"Do you think Blaise knows her daughter sees your brother as a potential lover?"
... ... Yes, fine it was abrupt! But it was something!

Kanga;
She seemed almost as if she chastised herself mentally for asking the question, but Kanga hoped that she didn't feel too badly. It was logical and clear in Kanga's mind, the answer, but there were plenty of other wolves—indeed, even siblings—that did not share he and Manaaki's bond. He hadn't meant to make her feel silly or anything—it was just so clear to him that there had been no need for anything but the truth. He flashed her the crooked grin she always seemed so taken with, just to be sure that the waters were clear.
Then, in response to what he said next, she snapped something sassy back at him, and he saw a flash of teeth for a half-moment. Ah, Kailypso. Ever the fire cracker, ever the sensitive one (though he guessed she would be caught dead before admitting that). He supposed that of he and Manaaki, though Manaaki was by far more quiet and thoughtful, he would probably be the more sensitive of the duo as well. Such was the blessing of a rather rocky puphood. But Kailypso soon hid her teeth again, and Kanga quirked his brow roguishly to match his smile. She spoke of taking stupid chances, and that life was probably to precious to do such things. Kanga withheld a snort. The life she spoke of would be nothing for Kanga without stupid choices. Acting the fool was second nature to him—as much as protecting him was to Manaaki. Come to think of it... he missed that big silver twin of his. They had had a few tense dealings as of late. Kanga felt himself yearning for the closeness—the way that each knew what the other was thinking almost before they thought it.
However, whatever fond thoughts he was having of his brother were wiped clean when Kailypso suddenly uttered that she hoped (dearly, to the point of praying to something she did not trust or believe in) she would be the one to go before Kanga. Kanga's ears flipped forward, and his ringed eyes widened slightly. He hadn't expected something like that to come from Kailypso. He heard her try to change the subject, but she wouldn't get away that easy.
"Well you're going to have to explain that," He said, his deep voice bordering between teasing and seriousness. Wolves didn't just hope they died before their friends—especially when those 'friends' were Kanga. "Have I really made such a good impression on you, that you would value my lie above your own?" This really was interesting, now. What had prompted her to say such a thing? Kanga's tail swiped against the snow behind him. The blood was almost fully covered by a light snow that had begun to fall; the scent of the encounter and Acribus slowly wiping away. Kanga's neck had stopped bleeding by then, but he was feeling rather thankful that the murderous Beta hadn't hit any arteries or the like.
"And no," Kanga said, answering Kaily's last question quickly, so as not to distract from what really had him curious. "I don't believe Blaise has any idea. We've interacted with her all but twice since joining Secluded Sunrise."

Kailypso:
"Well you're going to have to explain that," Kanga rumbled - he didn't sound upset by the comment, but perhaps disturbed, curious, a bit uncertain how to proceed. "Have I really made such a good impression on you, that you would value my life above your own?"
She exhaled, a stream of warm breath condensing into a cloud before her nose and mouth, her shoulders sank and the memory she'd been evading surfaced again. And this was why she shouldn't have asked...
She'd dared asked that question herself once - the answer had frightened and confused the impertinent she-pup who'd had such audacity to open her maw. She was no longer sure what she thought of it - it was a complicated answer. She did think a great deal of Kanga - he was maybe the best friend she'd ever had in her life, closer to her than her parents, than her brothers, than the yearlings who'd babysat her when she'd first started poking her blunt little snout into trouble as she got her legs to work...and yet they were on completely different paths. He was a pack-wolf, she was a loner by nature and by choice - and yet he felt he had some say in her welfare, like he had the right to call for her to be careful out of pure camaraderie - he listened, he let her make her own choices. He stood by when she needed the support and minded his business (mostly) when she wanted to be left alone. She did believe his life meant more than her own, but that was not the point - that wasn't why she'd said it. Ugh, it got complicated - now was not the time for it. She could reflect on this later - later when she was trying to shiver for warmth under her curled tail and staring at the too-bright stars and when her wandering thoughts kept her awake - then she could let the memories take over, not right now.
Kanga had asked her a question - oh how to answer? Something smart and silly or should she be honest with him? He had let slip that little tidbit about his father, and he had answered a very personal question for her. Tit for tat suggested she give a little in return. No, no one needed the baggage of another's cares and concerns, it wouldn't be a fair trade...but was it a trade of truth for woes or honesty for honesty? A light snow had started again and she could feel flakes sticking to the tips of her ears and along the guard-hair of her neck. Huh, the winter season was going to persist huh? She searched the sky and eyed the clouds, they were heavy and tired - full of snow yet to fall, it seemed that the gift of cold would just keep on giving this year. Huh, a gift that kept on giving...she supposed she did owe Kanga an explanation of some kind - no amount of appealing to the imp in him that delighted in teasing his fellow beings would distract him from this. She'd opened her mouth well and good this time, maybe it was time to come clean.
Mmm, no - everyone had a right to their secrets - she'd maintain her grip on hers. Still, he'd told her, she'd tell him - seeing as how he was not going to give her an avenue for their conspiratorial Manaaki and Amora as lovers discussion, fine, she'd be honest.
"Don't get feeling special or anything," she lifted a corner of her mouth to try and lighten the mood, but couldn't bring herself to roll her eyes or quite look at him, it was easier to look out at that border. "I pray I go before a lot of people. I've seen enough needless death come too soon to claim innocent life - I hope the next time it comes calling, it's because it comes to see me." There, that was honest enough and not revealing at all. She had baggage, everyone did. The details of the episode were her business as much as his relationship with his father was his. And it was the truth - she did wish the next death she saw was her own. It would have been a waste for it to be anyone else, life was unfair enough - some justice was needed in this world, she was willing to step up and pay her due if it came with the bill.

Kanga;
She didn't like being questioned, that much was abundantly clear. Kanga felt a smile pull at his lips at her clear discomfort in the moments of silence as she (no doubt) decided how best to answer. It had been a rather serious thing to say, after all. He was entirely within her rights to question it. Then after a good deal of silence, Kaily seemed to make up her mind.
"I pray I go before a lot of people. I've seen enough needless death come too soon to claim innocent life - I hope the next time it comes calling, it's because it comes to see me."
Kanga's eyes darkened. He had heard such talk plenty of times before within his own mind, but he had a feeling that Kailypso wasn't just saying it out of some dark mood. He truly believed, that this was what she believed. Such a way to look at oneself. "But you challenge everybody. So quick to protect yourself." He spoke slowly, referencing how quick Kaily was to defend herself against everything and everyone. "A wolf welcoming death, in my mind, would be a lot more breezy when slighted." Pride and self-preservation were two very different things, of course, but his prompting for further information still stood. He watched her closely, his smile hitching inward, waiting to see how she would take this newest avenue of conversation.
As well, Kanga's mind was still on her first utterance. Somehow, the sound of his own making an impression on her seemed good to his ears. He wasn't sure what or why—but suddenly it struck him as the right thing. Whether or not this warranted her wish to die before him was another matter altogether... but the fact that he was a prominent figure in his life meant something. "You should have just let me think that it was because I was just so darn important to you." His tongue lolled. "I might have left it alone at that..." Lie.

Kailypso:
What was a border really?
A line in the snow, the snow that continued to fall. A line that would be covered and overgrown that may change as time went on - that once had never existed. Such an enigmatic concept: a border, but not a limit. Something that contained a creature or group of creatures, but did not limit them and did not hold them in, nor really keep others out. A flaky idea really - who had started setting up borders? They didn't hold anything back or up - what was the point really? There was nothing keeping a body from crossing it.
Nothing at all.
The air had grown foggy with the new cloud bank and the falling snow - her view of the border of Midnight Silence had blurred and muted a bit - making the fancy and yarn of thought in her head meld with fantasies and philosophical questions best saved for some unholy morning hour before the sun was up - it was easier to be alone with one's thoughts in the dark. Darkness was a much more effective tool than a border - what couldn't be seen was kept out after a manner.
Maybe that was why the Midnight Silence border worked so well.
Something about her response didn't sit well with Kanga. His eyebrows arched and though his smile didn't die, it certainly laxed and slipped completely out of its usual fixation on his maw. "But you challenge everybody. So quick to protect yourself. A wolf welcoming death, in my mind, would be a lot more breezy when slighted."
"Now I never said I welcomed death Crooked Smile." she refuted, eying the border as it's visual faded in the thickening air, "I only said I don't see that anyone I know deserves to go next but me. No, truth be told I'm particularly squeamish and bad-tempered about death in general." she drawled. Now would be the time for an eye roll, but she was still watching the border. "I don't welcome it, I find the whole business of wasting disappointing - wasteful." so many lives ended too soon. "All life is a gift - to take any of it away out of sport and with full intent is cruel and unbearable. Some deserve to have it taken away less than others - or...you think they do..." She shifted her gimpy shoulder. Memories and philosophical questions were best left to dark - the dark would hold them in and keep other things out - much more effective than any border.
Silence. Yep, she just needed to find a rock and start preaching. No, here was Kanga with his witty comeback. "You should have just let me think that it was because I was just so darn important to you. I might have left it alone at that."
"Somehow, I'm not sure I believe that." her unearthly yellow eyes slid over and her hoods fell in a sly little lazy expression and her lips pursed in a grin.

Kanga;
Kailypso responded to his comment quickly, with an air that made Kanga believe she truly meant what she said, for she hadn't had to think about it for very long. He listened as she explained that she had never claimed she welcomed death, but she did believe she deserved to die; at least, more so than anybody else. Well. She didn't seem all that bad to Kanga. She then broke into a string of deeper and more complex sentences, stringing together ideas that were somewhat too quick and involved for Kanga. Basically, he got the idea that she was saying that life was a gift, and that some people (if one's guesses were correct) deserved to live more than others. Well, that point couldn't be argued. Kanga had a hard time imagining that a wolf like Kaily had more of a right to living than a wolf like Acribus—or himself, for that matter. Kanga had walked along a dark line for a while, and had been toying with it all his life. He had killed before. His paws were not clean of blood. He wanted Kailypso to go into more detail, but he was worried of asking the wrong thing and cause her to mistake his meaning. In the end, he decided to go with a simple one.
"Alright then—why do you think you deserve to go? Or if you don't exactly think you deserve to go, why are you any less deserving than anybody else? Why should a wolf like Acribus walk the earth while a wolf like you should leave?" He thought that did a good job of entertaining his point. His huge paws shifted as he heaved himself upwards, tired now of laying in the snow. He padded a short distance, glancing behind his shoulder at Kaily to show that he wasn't opposed to her following. He sat his thick rump down near the edge of the hill and gazed out at the far border. Whatever pack had held this land before that they now stood on, they would have been able to keep a very clsoe eye on their less-than friendly neighbors.
"Oh believe it," Kanga replied to what she said next. His tail flickered almost imperceptibly. "Truly, I'd be as happy as a pup knowing that I was that important to somebody." His grin turned lopsided, and he glanced at her—light twinkling in the grey rings surrounding his eyes.

Kailypso:
Kanga took it like the reasonable guy he was, and chewed on it. Oh, maybe it would end! Maybe this gruesome, still-tender topic of conversation could be buried. Kanga stood and stretched - she was starting to get a little stiff herself and copied him, shaking out her rump and rear legs - she held her tension in her legs, they'd been getting stiff, this little stretch felt glorious.
It was interrupted by Kanga's next question. "Alright then—why do you think you deserve to go? Or if you don't exactly think you deserve to go, why are you any less deserving than anybody else? Why should a wolf like Acribus walk the earth while a wolf like you should leave?" he turned and began walking - massive grizzly-bear head swinging around to see if she was following. Eh, why not? She'd gotten her look at the terrain, she was a wanderer after all, it was time to keep wandering, and in the company of a friendly giant? By all means.
"Acribus? Oh, I hope I'm not as bad as Acribus." she snorted, "But who am I to judge myself better than others? You don't see when you're scratched under your chin," she pointed out, plunging ahead of Kanga and rearing up slightly to nose his closed wound, "Who am I to say I'm not deserving to die next because I can't see my own imperfections? Just because others are more...obvious - doesn't mean we don't have our own demons that condemn us for more." Let us be done now - closing that topic - officially closed. She wasn't going to pursue it any further.
...Okay, one more reply.
"Oh, I didn't mean that - but I don't think you would have left it alone." she clarified. "This is Kanga we're talking about here." she grinned up at him, falling into step beside the russet giant again, and giving her sly little fox-like grin up at him in response to his lopsided smile that made his hazel-rings glow when the light struck them right.
She flicked her ears again, snow was still falling. "What's your favorite season?" Yep, another abrupt transition. Deal with it.

Kanga;
Kanga’s knee-jerk reaction was to flick his chin away when Kaily nosed it. For once, however, the red-giant showed a little bit of tact and refrained. He had never had a mother to care for little scuffs and bruises, and it had been far from Manaaki to do so. The brothers caused more physical harm to each other than they fixed it. But he supposed, in the half-breath of contact that he didn’t pull away from, that it wasn’t all bad. Most interesting, it didn’t feel strange. This whole ‘accepting the pain’ thing, as opposed to the ‘keep fighting with your brother, ignoring the pain and gaining a few more scars’ thing was interesting.
So instead of pulling away, Kanga sighed softly through his nose. His ears flicked as Kailypso continued speaking—acknowledging the slight jab and saying that Acribus was more or less an exception to the rule. But then, she opened up into a much more interesting level of conversation. Kanga could tell that she wanted to be done speaking about the topic, but as she had already mentioned—this was Kanga she was dealing with.
”Inner demons, eh? Now there’s an interesting path of conversation.” His eyes sparked once more and he turned from the view and started padding somewhat back towards the hill he had climbed to get there. Evening was approaching, and it wouldn’t do for them to try and slip down the snowy decline in the dark—gimpy shoulder aside. ”I’ll show you mine if you show me yours first.” His smile was sharp, youthful, and ever-so mischievous. She had him curious, now. Just what demons could a wolf like Kailypso have? She had a point, of course. Kanga had a dark past with his sire—but it wasn’t always his father’s voice that spoke to him from out of the gloom and despair.
”Spring,” He added as an afterthought as he began weaving his way through the scrubby bushes, making it quite clear that the season was his least-concern. ”All the desperation of wolves looking for mates make me laugh.”

Kailypso:
Kanga thoughtfully paused as she bumped her cold nose up under his massive chin - so not to trample the undersized wolfess. She appreciated the gesture - though she might have as easily ducked beneath him had he not stopped, or merely skipped out of his way. He took it patiently, a congenial, understanding sigh whooshing out as his nostrils flared and a stream of warm mist billowed from his nose.
Back down on all fours, walking beside him again - they kept going. Oh hang Kanga! He was back at the questions again! She hadn't called them Inner demons - just demons. Imperfections! Flaws! A word she was not allowed to use! C'mon! Why were males always so keen on these morbid subjects? Granted she wasn't too shy about them herself - generally that was. She was bad-tempered and squeamish about death and guilt and 'inner demons' as Kanga so poetically put it. Still, he tilted his chin and grinned - expression mischievous and overall innocent. Hang him by that crooked smile! What did anybody do with him? You couldn't stay mad at him for long - he was without tact - no great sin because she had the same shortcoming, but he did have a way of being so blunt and casual and familiar with everything where you really didn't care - or if you did, it wasn't enough to disrupt the relationship.
He passively answered her random question - not dwelling too much on the answer or skipping a beat. Could she try and get him to linger on it? Nah - she'd just said it, this was still Kanga she was dealing with, though he obviously didn't mean any harm or undue intrusion by his forwardness. They'd simply have two conversations at once. So - was she willing to share her inner demons? The invitation to learn Kanga's did intrigue her - maybe more about his father? Her relationship with her sire hadn't been a field of lilies either, but it seemed as though the violence and bitterness in Kanga's personality, he owed to the brute who had fathered him. To be fair, Kanga was not a violent being, but she'd seen that side of him - just a peek once or twice, but the anger and darkness in his eyes had been undeniable. Hmmm, the possibilities. Kanga was doing his fair bit of nosing - wasn't she owed some answers in return?
"Mmm, nah, I don't think you'd want to hear my list." she kept her tone light - really there were so many she really wouldn't know where to start. Let him take that as he would, now for conversation track B! "Hmm, spring can't be too far off - do you think Manaaki..." she wasn't quite sure how to finish the thought.

Kanga;
Oh she didn't like the questions. Not one bit. Kanga felt his roguish smile widening, and a familiar light started glinting in his eyes. That was one thing Manaaki was so handy for—the older twin could always tell when the younger was getting too deep. Indeed, Kanga felt his instincts pulling him to continue pestering Kailypso with questions, even though he could tell that they were making her uncomfortable. Part of him knew that he shouldn't, but a more dominant part of him didn't really care. Kanga existed for causing good-natured tension and living in the moment. But then he pushed it away. His ears drooped and he let a very deep (and very uncharacteristic) whine leak out of his throat. He could pester all day, but if she insisted on giving him half-answers like that, he didn't imagine he would get very far. His whine was something unlike any other animal could make. So deep and mature, but so puplike and desperate in its own measure that it was downright comical. He huffed, then batted a small (not so small) tree as they passed, causing it to reel off it's roots and hit the snow beyond.
"Don't think you'll fool me with that," He said, growling but keeping his tone light. He still sounded an awful-lot like a disgruntled pup. "I'm not some fool to be thrown off with light indifference." But then any other thoughts he had were pushed from his mouth, as Kailypso voiced a question that had been rumbling around in his own mind. Spring meant a warming of weather and a warming of hearts. Just as ice melted, so too would caution and care. Next thing you knew, pups would be running around willy-nilly.
Kanga gave an over-exaggerated gag, his hackles rising and his tail thrashing as his teeth flashed and his tongue rolled out past his lips. He shook his massive head once, twice, barely missing Kailypso as he did so, and arching his powerful spine. "I try not to think about stuff like that."

Kailypso:
Kanga heaved a big, gusty breath and let out a whine. Had she heard that right? Her head snapped around to the massive wolf she was walking with. Had he really just- he had! It was a forlorn sort of sound, good-natured and with no real significance, there was no real pain or loneliness in the tone of the cry, it was childish and exasperated, almost something between a grunt of surrender like when a pup finally submitted to bedtime and one more plea even though they knew it would be hopeless.
She couldn't help but chuckle a bit. It was an uncharacteristic sound for such a large creature - though it fit in with Kanga's personality perfectly. He was really just an overgrown kid, of course he was going to pursue everything that caught his attention - that was what pups did. Chased whatever caught their fancy, endlessly hunting what amused or interested them, looking for play-things, answers, adventures, that was Kanga. Pursuing whatever caught his interested. Well, curiosity did kill the cat.
He batted a tree in friendly frustration, protesting that she oughtn't think she could fool him with light indifference like she was playing. She shrugged, but had no reply. Of course Kanga was too smart to fall for an old act like that, but she did want to close this door - close it while she could still smile about it, before things started hitting too close to home, getting too personal. All she could think was to violently pursue her other track at conversation, hope it distracted him and that for once in his life he took a hint.
Upon her half-formed thought leaving her mouth, Kanga hunched his shoulders, opened his maw wide and made the most realistic hacking and retching sound she'd ever heard. Hackles raised and tail swishing back in agitation, vehemently shaking his massive head, nose hitting the edges of her whiskers as he made his displeasure known. "I try not to think about stuff like that." he announced.
Kaily chuckled. He made a show of that one didn't he? "Try not to think of what?" she asked darkly, impish smile tugging at her maw and rolling her eyes over to give them that sinister gleam of a younger sibling tormenting the elder one. "Either you are the most romantically averted wolf I've ever met - what with that little display, or you're thinking of them being on a completely different level than I am. Crooked Smile what the heck was that?!"

Kanga;
Kaily seemed pleased that Kanga had more or less taken the new-conversation bait, so he didn’t push it any farther. If he was meant to know, he would in due time. Kailypso was probably one of the wolves he knew best in the valley—and while he wouldn’t say that she knew more of him than Manaaki (a laughable comparison, really), he would admit that the two lengthy interactions they had had did give her some sort of claim to know him. Kanga wasn’t exactly a closed-soul, at least not in most respects, but rarely did wolves stick around long enough to really know him; even Epsilon, the quiet and polite wolf that had all but saved Kanga’s life, he hadn’t seen since meeting him. It seemed a shame, as the three large brutes had gotten on rather well—but that only proved that Kailypso had as much claim to say that she knew him, as he could about her. So he was confident that they would meet again, the same as before. Perhaps at that meeting they would open up more. Perhaps Kaily would become a very dear friend, of which Kanga could only claim one other. He wasn’t sure, but he was confident. So he let the conversation slide.
”Try not to think about what,” Kanga snorted, taking a chomp of fresh snow off a passing bush. ”Like you don’t know with that leading question.” His silver-highlighted eyes found Kaily’s. Perhaps a good old fashioned tease was in order. Without missing a beat to show that he had decided anything, Kanga grinned sideways and turned his head towards her. It was done with such fluidity that it seemed a completely natural flow of the conversation. ”Why so much interest in the state of Manaaki and Amora’s relationship?” His grin turned cheeky(er). ”I can get you and Manaakk alone no problem, if that’s what you want.” A wink.

Kailypso:
Kanga did not overly appreciate her little goad. She knew darn well what he was thinking. Well - she might argue. She didn't know exactly what he was thinking - but she did have an idea - professional, reserved Manaaki melting down to wax poetic and begin slobbering like an idiot as he spoiled his lover. Amora taking such lavish attention proved a comical, cringe-worthy picture too. It didn't fit, and it was shudder-worthy, yeah, Kanga's hacking there hadn't been too far off the mark - it was not a pleasant picture to have running about in ones head, especially with the possibility of it actually one day being a reality. Hmm, how many puppies - NOPE! She was definitely not going to go there!
Kanga chomped on a clump of snow and ice, swallowed and asked about her interest in the relationship. I can get you and Manaaki alone no problem, if that's what you want." he taunted with a wink.
That did it. The smile at Kanga's discomfort evaporated just like that. She stopped, gimpy leg stiffening so fast that the muscles bulged. Her maw quirked down almost before the words had all left his mouth and the insides of her ears flared red. Her double-sized tail swished in agitation and her irked ruff flared and bristled before trying to settle back down. "And what is that supposed to - no. Never mind, I don't want to know." another righteously indignant huff and she stalked on ahead of him a few paces. Oh, it had been meant in teasing well enough - but Kanga teased to get a reaction out of her - well, he was getting one. Oh, she wasn't exactly upset with him. No, they were good enough friends for her not to let a little jab like that get under her skin.
She was furious.
She whirled around on a dime - gimpy leg or none - and reared up, clasped her front paws on his neck so they were as close to face-to-face as they could get and made sure she had his attention. "Kanga - I am going to ask you a very important question, and I need you to take me seriously. What in the Good Geist was that?!?" Truly! What had she done to deserve that one? She couldn't understand it.

Kanga;
For one who had just asked what Kanga had thought she meant when bringing up Spring, and lovers, and all the like—she certainly seemed to know exactly what was going on. A slight wrinkling in her nose, a flash of her eyes. Kanga watched her closely as they made their slow way down the hill. Something about Manaaki, Amora, perhaps both—all but seemed to upset her stomach. Noticeably agitated, she was, but then again Kanga was an extremely good judge of character.
But then she got mad. Right riled.
She was so angry that she could barely even form the sentence to ask what Kanga had meant by his statement. He held in a smile as the first tirade of irritation rolled off of her. But then it got worse, as if she had thought about it some more and realized that, no, that really had set her off! Suddenly she was in his face, snapping at his face and holding his thick neck between her paws—never mind that she had to stretch her legs to even fit around him. She demanded an answer, a real answer. Kanga didn’t reply at first, instead choosing to note (and dare he admit, enjoy?) her anger. But after a moment he flexed his neck, which would no doubt cause her paws to separate further and hopefully put her off balance.
”What was what?” Kanga asked, employing her own dirty trick back at her. He smirked, but didn’t exactly have a death wish. ”It’s about the third time you’ve asked after them. Don’t pretend like you didn’t have some half-sick, angry-for-some-reason, sour-faced expression before I said that.” His chest puffed, hoping to push her off by sheer body mass if he hadn’t already. ”The idea of those two doesn’t sit right, and I want to know why.”
As stupid as he was, Manaaki was still his brother and his best friend. Kanga of course wanted the best for him. He wasn’t angry at all, mostly poking the angry bear, but there was something to be curious about. Why did it frustrate her, so? If Kanga couldn’t tell Manaaki what to do—she certainly couldn’t.
