Secret; The heat wasn't exactly all-consuming, but she couldn't say that it was comfortable. Summer always seemed to come on so unexpectedly, she honestly wasn't exactly sure what she was supposed to do during the stifling heat. She supposed that the main goal was to get out of the heat, that was the logical conclusion. She also supposed that she could do like many others and go to a local watering hole, cool off near the water, quench her thirst, perhaps even catch some fish. She didn't have to guess to know that she wasn't going to do any such thing. Nobody had ever called her anti-social, but she was content being alone. Silence didn't bother her, and she wasn't known to be one to search out the company of another creature. Even when she did feel the rare urge to made idle talk with something else, even if it was simply a plant, her all too empty head made it near impossible.
Maybe if she could find someone just as easily distracted as her it would be fine. To do that she'd have to actively seek out someone else, and she had already established to herself that she would not do that. She allowed a small grin to curve up her mouth, thinking that for a senile old wolf she was pretty rational today. "Bah." The small sound of exasperation escaped without her notice or consent, and she couldn't help but wonder why that mattered to her.
In the end, she just shrugged and sat back to take in the relatively new sights around her. She felt like she had been here before, though she had no proof of that, and if she were honest with herself she would admit that she felt like that everywhere she went. This place wasn't anything special, in fact, it seemed even less so, with the desolate terrain. Sort of like my mind really. Not even a tumbleweed dares to cross this landscape. She found that thought slightly amusing, although she couldn't reason why, and she showed no outward appearance of being anything but disinterested.

Chia;
The bottoms of her purple paws were caked with the red dust of the barrens as she padded with a sort of hop in her gait. She loved summer, but even more, she loved the sun. She glanced back at her left shoulder with her purple gaze at her golden freckles that were sparkling and reflecting the sun’s light. Chia flicked her tail in pride and shook the dust from her teal coat and coughed as she inhaled some. She took little notice to annoyances though, and padded on, every once in a while glancing back at her shoulder. It was seldom during winter, and even rainy Spring, that she made such a spectacle when the sun hid behind the clouds. The dust sort of muddled the full effect, but a trip to a spring or river could fix that.
Her tongue lolled as she glanced about and stopped suddenly as she saw the other wolf.
“Hello!” She called out in a cheery tone, changing her direction toward the other femora.
She glanced around and indicated to some bare stones nearby.
“What an awfully dull place, neh?”

Secret regarded the approaching speck of teal and gold with amusement, watching as it turned quickly to a dot, then a blob and finally revealed itself to be a wolf. Secret glanced at the female as she spoke, one eye regarding her calmly. "Hi." It wasn't said in a cheerful voice, but the tone indicated friendliness. A spark of interest lit up Secret's dull eyes and she looked at the stranger for a second. "I suppose one might find it so. I don't. This place is easy to liken with. It's so empty, but that makes it compelling and perhaps inspiring."
Secret shrugged and fell silent again. She looked down at her feet and noticed a single strand of grass poking up between her toes. She plucked it up from the soil and chewed it once before spitting it out. It tasted of dry dirt, something that Secret could live without ever trying again. "I wouldn't recommend the plants here though. They are just as lackluster as they appear." Secret nodded her head in assent of her own observation and cocked her head. "Won't you sit?"

Chia;
If a wolf could raise an eyebrow in interest, Chia would have. Instead she tilted her head and widened her eyes in interest as she scoffed a little and glanced around at the barren land. She then shrugged, well, she didn’t have to agree. The land was hideous, had no sparkle to it – bland. It was interesting though, that this wolf should use the word…inspiring.
“Eh, I just see a pretty ugly landscape… but whatever floats your log.” She more mumbled it as she looked around at the lifeless landscape. Chia’s bright gaze lazily moved back at the female and tilted her head the other way in surprise as the female ate the piece of straw that had been “growing” from the ground.
“Or… just don’t eat…plants…period.” She said in pauses and then laughed a little. “You are odd, I think we can be friends.” Chia grinned and sat as the wolf had indicated.
“I’m Chia, you?”

Secret shrugged and looked down at the dry dust again. "Well... sometimes plants have a unique flavor, I wished to see what they tasted like here. And as for being friends...that depends on the way our encounter develops." Secret hadn't had many friends in her life, and to her, the word friend was just someone who hung around for a week or two then left. Secret shrugged again and watched as the female sat.
She almost smirked as she thought of what this Chia would think if she knew that Secret talked to plants in addition to eating them, but managed to restrain herself. She already thought that Secret was odd, so her opinion probably wouldn't be too much worse. Secret didn't think Chia had said that with any malicious intent so she grinned back at Chia.
"I don't recall my birth name, and I haven't for at least half my life. Recently I've started calling myself Secret." Secret's smile faded and she studied the wolf closely, though with more curiosity than anything else. "I know why I'm here, but why are you here?"

Chia;
“Huh…” She said, not necessarily unbelieving of her claims of her taste of plants, but not really caring. Chia had never enjoyed berries or other supplements when food was low – besides, food had never been low enough when she had been with her old pack. She blinked and looked at the femora, wondering how one could forget their own name. It seemed absurd, unless she was really so old, or perhaps there had been some incident and she was blocking her memories or something.
Chia nodded when she announced her name, and she blinked purposely. Secret. She had chosen her name, and called herself Secret? It was ironic really, as her true birth name was a secret to all. She smiled lightly at the joke in Secret’s name.
Her ears flicked casually at the question.
“I’m traveling. Exploring. Learning.” She paused then and smiled a little. “But if we’re going to be quite literal, like your name… I’m here because my paws brought me here.”
She shook herself, standing only momentarily to shake off some of the dust from her coat. “While you may know why you are here, I do not… Is there a reason you’ve wandered into this barren land?”

Secret stared impassively as the other female inspected her with what seemed to be skepticism. She didn't really appear interested, and Secret was fine with that. Perhaps she thought that Secret did it out of hunger, and if that was the case she wasn't going to rectify her assumption.
She flicked her ears as Chia seemed to get the joke that she was making out of her name. She knew it was ironic, if not particularly funny, and was glad that at least one other being was around to comprehend it.
"Interesting. The first part, not the literal part. That is just practical." She watched as Chia stood and shook the dust off of her fur, wondering if this female was the preening, self-absorbed type who only cared about looks. She didn't appear to be and she hadn't acted like one yet, but one never knew with strangers.
"Yes. I came here to see what lay in front of me. Now that I'm here, I need to decide whether to continue or to stay. It does seem as though it would be a challenge to carve out a home here." She shrugged then. "I don't like moving around much once I've settled on a place to live, and that's exactly what I'd have to do if I lived here. At least... if I wanted food or water. Taking that into consideration, I'll probably keep going. That reminds me, don't you have a home?"

Chia;
Chia looked around her as she considered what this female was thinking about making home… Her façade turned skeptical and nodded as Secret spoke about the lack of food and water.
“…and lack of color…” She mused, adding on to the list of reasons not to live in the Barrens. She could add a few more things – the dust, and she imagined it got muddy when it rained, maybe flooded even on the hard ground. The teal female blinked at Secret when she spoke of home. Home.
She shook her head with a sigh, pointing her gray muzzle at the other. “No, no home.” Chia had never really had a home, part of her longed to stay in one place, but her independent spirit kept her on the move. “I prefer to stay on the move, not stay in one place for too long. There’s too much to see, wouldn’t you agree?” Chia accordingly looked past Secret to the greenery on the horizon, the opposite direction of the mountain behind her. The mountain had had some sort of pull, which had drawn her to the Barrens, but she had not known exactly what it had been. Now that she was in the Barrens, she decided that the pull was not enough to go up the mountain.
“What’s your ideal home then?” Again she was musing, still scanning their surroundings with curiosity. Home for her was where ever she was. It traveled with her and her wild heart.

Secret sighed. She didn't really care about the lack of color in the barrens, beauty was of no concern to her. She looked down, drawing little circles in the dirt with her paw, then erasing them. "How very bittersweet. The question of agreeing with you would require me to decide who I am in reality- and I am afraid I simply can't do that." She didn't explain why she couldn't, not really knowing herself, only knowing that it was not something she was willing to do.
Secret stopped the movement of her paw for a second, trying to think about what her ideal home would be. It was something different for her mind to chew on, but then again, she rarely thought about anything. "My ideal home would need a feeling that I could relate to I suppose. I've always been happiest when the landscape around me had a poignant tone. Other than that, everything I need to survive within easy reach."
She looked up at the mountain which had captured Chia's attention for a short time. To her it looked oppressive, and she couldn't help but wonder who or what was at the top of it. "I wonder what's up there. Do you know?" She asked the question with quiet awe, amazed at the mystery and power which seemed to roll off of it. She had no intention what so ever of climbing all the way up there to see why it had such an aura, her bones aching at the mere thought. It was still interesting enough to capture her attention for a time.

Chia;
She wasn’t sure why it took her so long to see the age in this wolf that was clearly older. Bittersweet? Chia thought it was sweet, and only sweet– again, there was a part of her that wondered about having a place to settle down, but it was not as strong as what she already knew. Her life had always been on the move, so it was all she knew. It was almost like she knew when it was time to get up and leave, a part of her that was engrained to move and stay on the move. Was there really anything wrong with it to make it bitter at all?
Her purple eyes moved to the old wolf, scanning over her in thought as she spoke about a place that would satisfy her soul. She had the sudden urge to help the wolf find the perfect spot, but it sounded like she would need to understand the wolf a little better. Maybe… somewhere open? Somewhere with a nice hidden den in the hills, and suddenly she was drawing a lovely picture in her mind when the wolfess drove her attention unnecessarily to the mountain.
She blinked and looked back at the mountain, almost looking at it with scorn. Something about it had drawn her there and she felt it was best to defy it. It called to that inner part of her that wanted to settle down. Settle down on the mountain? It seemed absurd.
“Goddesses, I’ve heard tell. I wouldn’t know, and don’t know much except for what I’ve heard in the rumors. Something about giving powers, granting wolves abilities or something.” Since she didn’t care much about it, she spoke dispassionately about it, not wanting to dwell much on the large structure.
A smile lit her maw, the picture of Secret’s ideal home coming back to her. “Could I help you find the ideal home?” She stood up, excited about what she knew could possibly be a challenge. The wolf wanted a home that reminded her of herself… but how could she know if she didn’t even know herself? Or whatever knowing her self in reality meant. Her purple eyes sparkled in excitement, finding a new thing she could obsess over for a time, until she found something else…and so on.

Secret watched as Chia thought about something. She was tired of thinking, all anyone ever did was think. If you asked her, thinking about something got you exactly nowhere. She didn't say that out loud, instead letting her expression speak for her. She saw Chia appraise her, unsure of the reason why. She had no secrets to hide, besides her name of course. Something akin to amusement became evident in her eyes and she waited patiently for the female to speak.
Mentioning the mountain was not the correct thing to do apparently, as expressed by Chia's scorn of the landmark. "Really now? How interesting." She didn't really care all that much anymore, her fascination with the mountain's perceived power gone almost as soon as she had asked the question. The mountain would be whatever it was, without any visits or interference by her. Shrugging, she turned back to whatever she had been listening to before thinking about the mountain, a combination of observing the other female and drawing shapes in the dirt.
When Chia next spoke Secret realized what had happened. Chia thought she was on the hunt for a permanent home. Thinking back, she realized that her words certainly did indicate that. She had no intentions of finding herself a forever home, that place would be where she died, and she preferred to let nature decide that for her. For now, she was tired of moving and wanted to find a place where she could be comfortable for a while. While she would normally have told the other wolf that, she found herself curious about something.
"Why? I'm an old wolf, and many would be perfectly fine going on their merry way without helping me." What harm would a little misunderstanding cause in the long run? She didn't think such a little thing could have many, if any, consequences. Then she softened and shrugged.
"Regardless. If you truly want to help me out, then you are welcome to aid me in my search." Maybe the younger wolf really did just want to be friendly and kind. It didn't matter if that wasn't the case because she had nothing to gain by manipulating her. Seeing the excitement consume the wolf at the prospect of searching for a home for someone who could barely be called an acquaintance, she smiled back, pleased that Chia was at least happy about the idea.

Chai;
She was consumed by the prospect of something new to do that it didn’t phase her that the old wolfess questioned what she was interpreting as kindness. To Chai it was a way to pass time, an adventure – and even more, a challenge. Many wolves would be fine and dandy going on their merry way because they probably had a more involved life than Chai did, who currently had been wandering aimless and suddenly felt like she had some direction.
When Secret gave in, Chai didn’t even answer the female’s question, she didn’t want her to change her mind.
“Great!”
She turned and looked northward from where she had come.
“I just passed through lands similar to this – but with more life! So – it’d be open, like here, but prettier. AND…” She was nearly hopping the way she was moving, her eyes moving to Secret as she realized her idea was almost too perfect. “ANNNND, there are lots of hidden places – secret places. I could dig you a den between some of the rocks and behind a bush. Or, or – under the shrubbery? I can point out a few places as we go!”
She was grinning, her tail wagging and she had started walking in the direction of the Heathlands in which she had wandered through. She looked back at Secret and lowered the front half of her body in a play bow, indicating toward the Heathlands with her muzzle.
“Want to go now? I mean, we can wait if you’re tired – or we could go now.” She said with a nod and grin, her tongue lolling.

Secret still found it a little odd that the other female was soo excited at the idea, but didn't say anything more on the subject. She had already consented to having the younger wolf show her around in search of a place to stay, and that made it a done deal. It seemed that she would be getting a complete tour of wherever she was now that she had agreed. It was certainly different, seeing such life in another thing, especially since she was accustomed to seeing things such as the landscape around her. It would certainly take some adjusting to - if she was around Chia enough to adjust.
For a second Secret looked back at where she had come from, but she frowned as she did. Her memories of how things had been before she had crossed the mountains were fuzzy, unfocused. She hated when things like that happened because it meant she absolutely no way of knowing anything about herself.
She supposed that everything happened for a reason. Perhaps there was a purpose for her having met such a bright, cheery wolf upon entering the valley, although she really wasn't quite sure what that purpose might be.
Finally registering the question she had been asked, she shook her head in denial. "No. I see no reason to wait. My bones don't ache so much in the summer as they do in the winter. We might as well go and see what we might be able to find. It might even be fun." Secret inclined her head, indicating that the other female should lead the way.

Chai;
“Great!!” Chai said, her upper half of her body lowering into a play bow. She didn’t really mean to play; her body just reacted with her feelings.
She started trotting away in the direction she had come, assuming that Secret was following along right behind her.
“So, you said something about not remembering your name and half your life… What /do/ you remember?” She paused, realizing that it may be considered a personal question. “I mean, if you don’t mind me asking.” Chai grinned, arching her neck backward to glance at the female so she could see her apologetic smile. OoC// lol, I realize I twisted her name into Chia, it’s actually Chai… so if you don’t mind just pretending all the posts say Chai xD lol Also sorry about the wait, I'm still getting a groove on Chia's personality.
