Her feet did the moving, she wasn’t sure where she was going, as long as it was far away. She had never lost anyone before, at least, not at a mature age where she actually felt the loss. Death was a natural thing, and it made sense to Tov, but it did not change the way her heart ached. This new feeling was something she tackled with on her journey through the woods. She wasn’t her usual positive self and it was disconcerting.
Her paws picked up the pace, trees started to fly by in a blur as she ran blindly through the woods. She wondered if she kept running that her troubles would fall behind. Yet, no matter how hard she ran or sharp she turned corners, her shadow was there – the shadow of her past. There was a part of her glad it was still there.
It took her a moment before Tovaana had realized she had stopped. It was quiet, like the birds and squirrels had gone to bed, but the sun was still blazing overhead. She had been so caught up in her thoughts she hadn’t realized that her unconscious self had found a large peculiar tree. It seemed to have an aura about it that calmed her heart… or distracted her. Her opalescent gaze sparkled gold in the sun that filtered through the muted leaves; she traced the lines that were etched into the tree in strange patterns.
As she came to she moved around the tree – slowly, for her legs ached from her journey…how long had she been moving? She became more aware of her body that had been trying to talk to her miles back, and trembled before sitting, then let her attention wander back to the tree. What now? She thought at the tree, hoping that there would be some sort of answer hidden in the ancient grooves that seemed to be telling a story.

Joey: Joey loped along, dark bay coat and black tail waving behind him. Joey enjoyed running, his crisp white paws beating green grass and brown roots and dirt. Joey slid to a halt, his soft golden, black, and golden fur waving in a slight breeze. He started trotting, his tongue lolling out in the pleasure of running. Joey wasn't as fast as his little sister, Ruffian. Joey was, however, a lot stronger and a bit bigger. Joey looked around, and his nose ran into a tree. Joey sneezed, loudly. Shaking his head clear, he looked around. The tree was ornately carved, and he saw a story in the bark. He cocked his head, and felt his dappled flank bump with another wolf. He jumped, looking over and seeing a white and gold wolf with golden eyes. "Who are you?" he asked, brown eyes meeting those gold ones.

She started at the entrance of the other wolf. Tov's paws seemed glued to the ground, and startled fear kept her still as he moved toward the tree and sneeze. It was as if bumping her gave her permission to move, and she did, moving a couple side steps away.. He was quite larger than her, but he had a youthful bounce to his step. She also saw no mal-intent in his gaze. When he asked the question she looked up to the tree as if it should answer. When she had asked, what now? she had hoped for a direction to go, she had not expected her answer to be a wolf... Or was it an answer? Either way, it was the next thing happening to her. She looked back to the wolf and studied his dappled coat and black and white patterns, she hadn't seen anything like it. Yet, the same could be said about most wolves in these parts...
"I'm Tov." She said, almost with uncertainty. She was easy to trust, but still unsure about her own situation. "Who are you?" As the conversation started she started to feel the sadness in her heart dissipate. Perhaps the tree had known she was in need of social interaction to distract her from her woe. She sat down again, her tired legs demanding it. "Do you live about here?"

Joey: Joey didn't smile. He honestly tried, but he didn't. Joey sneezed again and shook himself. "Sorry, I think I'm allergic to trees." he said, making a small joke. In truth he thought that he was sick and he hadn't getting better since he was younger. "My name is Joey, I live around here. It's nice to meet you Tov." Cocking his starred head, he studied her with coco brown eyes that looked ageless and deep. He started wagging his pitch black tail, and he did smile. Joey was a more cheerful wolf without his sister around. "So, um... I like your fur." he noted. Joey's light brown fur stood up as he sneezed again. Shaking his head and pawing his nose in a goofy way. He looked back at Tov, and sat down trying to look smaller then he was. He found himself noticing the golden speckles and how bits of dirt clung to her paws. Like him, she seemed to be have running for while.

"Oh." She said, the thought never occurred her to someone could be - wait, she chuckled a little, realizing by his half attempted smile that he could be joking. It was the half hearted smile made her believe he was distracted. Joey. "Nice to meet you too." She meant it too, she realized how much more relaxed she felt, despite her screaming muscles.
She followed his chocolate gaze to her legs and paws. The bits of gold reflected the sun that escaped the green canopy above. She chuckled again, this time more nervously. It wasn't often she got compliments from others. It had only been her mother who had bathed her in nice comments. "Thank you." The star on his forehead was what drew her attention. "And I like the shape on your forehead." She said with a smile. She watched him sneeze and and she frowned, even though he tried to play it off- and she wanted to smile, but she felt concern. "...That doesn't sound like an allergy." Tov noted, but if it was allergies, she wondered if she had passed a peppermint bush on the way here. She had been so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't paid attention, and now she felt like she was paying for it.

Joey: Joey swiped a pebble. "I have no idea, something just makes me sneeze and it never goes away." He said, then perked his ears and looked around. A low growl started as he looked around. Then a terrifying, fierce, evil.... Bunny. Joey stopped growling, and pinned his ears back in a ashamed way. He watched the brown bunny as it hopped away, and sat as it disappeared into undergrowth. Swiping another pebble, he looked back at Tov. "So, and plans? I have nothing planned, so I have zero to do." Joey stood up, shaking himself free of the dust that loved to accumulate on his fur. Joey looked like every aspect would stand out, but the white socks and black markings where what Joey always liked about his fur. They stood out distinctively against the light bay and made him different. Then he heard a cat-like growl and turned around to see the golden eyes of a bog cat the likes of which he had never seen.

His answer made her believe that peppermint would work. She tried to remember her journey, but all it did was bring back the grief. Her ears dropped back about the same time Joey started to growl. Immediately her ears straightened and tried to look look when she heard the rustle in the bushes near. She let out a small laugh and relaxed as the rabbit noticed the wolves and left quickly. Her stomach growled, a rabbit would have been nice actually... She thought to herself. Her eyes went back to the wolf and and let her focus reel back in. Plans? She looked back at the ancient carved tree in reaction, cursing the useless thing. Not that it had done anything wrong, but she had hoped for an answer, not another to voice her question - what now?
She sighed. "I've been traveling a while, I wasn't sure where to. I guess my plans were to keep going until I found something, maybe a pack or something. Do you have a pack?..." Her voice trailed off as she heard the growl and turned as he turned. Adrenalin started to pump through her, so her back legs didn't complain as she stood up and backed up a little.

Joey: Joey backed away, his chocolate eyes fixed on the big cat's golden ones. It had a mane of light fur, and silver fur. He had no idea what it was, but it seemed mad. Growling, Joey took a slow step back. The cat growled back at him, and Joey's hackles rose up and the cat seemed to consider Joey as something maybe to avoid. Then the cat swiped the air in front of Joey and Tov. Joey responded with a sharp white foot of his own. The cat struck at his paw, and he yelped in surprise and pain. Joey bit back, and the cat roared. Joey backed away with his freed paw and growled. His white paw was red and hurt to even have on his leg. Joey growled, but refused to move from in front of Tov.

She backed up a little more, her body telling her to run, but her mind reminded her that there was another with her. She found herself growling and her hackles raising out of defense. She flinched when the cat swiped, and the rest was a blur. Tovaana's white body moved to the other side of Joey, a few steps behind his shoulder. She glanced down at his wound, it made her believe that the cat would not back down under normal measures...For attacking two wolves...It didn't make sense, it being outnumbered. The yowl pierced her ears and felt her heart ram against her chest in rebellion, 'run'.
"Joey, I don't think we can beat sense into it... How is your leg, can you run?" As she spoke the cat regathered itself. It was also wounded, but she wasn't sure how much and if it would follow. She stepped closer to Joey's side, waiting for the cat to move first. The white wolfess wasn't very big, but had learned speed in her the absence of brawn. She was prepared to strike if need be.

Joey: Joey looked back at Tov, as she asked if he could run. Joey waited for a few seconds, then turned tail and ran. Not run, he ran like death itself was chasing him, which it kinda was. Joey might not be as fast as his family, but he was not going to let that thing catch him. He glanced behind him, looking for Tov. Instead the first thing that he saw was the silver cat, and Joey ran even faster. Until this point, his paw's pain had been dulled by adrenaline. The amount of pressure constantly beginning forced on it was causing it to begin to break. Joey landed before he felt it, and fell. Joey looked behind him, but he seemed to have lost the cat. Maybe it had decided that he and Tov where not worth chasing. He struggled up, his paw flaring with pain with every beat of his heart. He looked around for Tov, but didn't see her. Joey sniffed around for her, worrying for his newfound friend.

He was gone. She had blinked and he was gone, his sudden movement startled both wolfess and cat, but just for a moment. The cat took advantage of Tovaana's freeze and leapt at her. She let her body's instincts take over and started moving. She swept in toward the cat, but under it - sliding under its attack, but only barely. The cat took its momentum and hardly glanced back at Tov, running behind her into the bushes. For a moment she didn't know why she was running after the cat, until her mind caught up with her unconscious efforts - "Joey." She exhaled the whisper under her heavy pant as she ran. Her run sped up and quickly caught up to the gray blur of feline ahead of her.
She lengthened her strides, pushing herself to the left of the cat, giving her enough room away from the cat that it couldn't change directions and fall upon her. Once Tov was almost at stride with the cat she let out a snarl as she threw herself at the cat, who had known she was there, but had not anticipated the rash move. She tumbled and tripped over the cat (or more like, bounced off the cat), slightly twisted her ankle before thumping on the ground, but not for long. She was up on her feet and running at a ninety degree angle away from Joey. Tov's attack was not meant to harm, only startle and distract- lure the cat away. She only glanced back to make sure the cat was following her, but it was not there. Her run turned into a lope, and once she believed the cat was really gone, she looped back toward the direction that Joey had been going.
The lope turned into a walk, which turned into a slight limp as her body slowed down, while her mind was still on hyperdrive. Pain ebbed through all of her muscles. The only thing she could focus on was tracking Joey's scent and look for a certain plant her mother had once used on her when she had fallen down a steep hill and tore her shoulder on a rock. She was in a daze as she walked, almost passing the plant that she grabbed as she walked- her body threatened to stop altogether if she paused even for a moment. Her whole white frame shivered as she came close to Joey's scent. "Jzhoey?" Tov called out with a mouth full of plant, unable to pinpoint where he was exactly.

Joey: Joey lowered his head, the exhaustion hitting him like a blow to the head. He was using all of his willpower to stay on his feet and not collapse. Trying to take a step, he yelped with pain. He had tried to walk on his injured paw. Joey limped forward, panting harder every second. He needed to find his new friend, and as the wind changed, he found her sent. Joey limped forward, slowly stopping his panting. Joey was getting closer, Tov's sent was stronger. He thought he saw a glimmer of white and gold in the underbrush, and limped faster. Joey felt his good front paw land on a smooth rock, and pebbles started sliding under his paws. He struggled to steady himself. Walking forward, his paw slipped on something again. This time Joey landed on his side, but still somehow got up. He was gaining energy now, and he thought he smelled Tov again when the wind changed again. Joey kept limping forward in the direction Tov's sent had come from.
Joey looked up, had that really been a flash of white? Then he herd a voice that sounded live Tov, saying something that sounded like his name. Joey cocked his head, but kept moving. Then he saw her, gold flecked legs and all. Joey wagged his black tail, smiling. "Right here."

Her body reacted to the words before her emotions. 'you found him, now you can stop.' So she did and almost collapsed from her weak legs. She lifted her head slowly and found his tawny brown and black form appear from the underbrush. She felt like she was moving and thinking in slow motion. Her tail wagged, happy to see him. It had not been long ago they were introducing themselves and Joey informing her he was bored... The thought made her smile as she placed the herbs down. Well, that was one way to chase boredom away. She was also grateful for the way he had stood between her and the danger, she felt like she could trust him.
"How's your leg?" She asked, remembering as she smelled the blood. "Try putting this on, you chew it and put it on the opening. It tastes nasty, but it will help with the pain..." She nudged the greens closer with her nose.

Joey: Joey looked at the greens, and scooped them up in his mouth. He chewed them obediently and tried not to spit them out. Once they where well chewed enough, he spread it over his now crimson paw. That alone made him want to yelp with pain from a unexpected pain that flared as his tongue touch his paw. He confined himself to a whine, and spread it around. It felt like the cat had used it's mouth, and had caught his paw with it's teeth. Joey put his paw back down, now green, and wondered if he could start up another conversation. He couldn't decide what to say, except, "Are you okay?" he asked, looking for any sign of red in her white fur. He was worried, he had lost track of her. Looking back on the chase, he wondered what he had done for her. He had been running for his life. He had looked back one time, and not seen her. Joey looked down at his paws, ashamed of himself. He was a bad friend. He hadn't learned from the best, but still. Joey looked back up. "I'm sorry I left you back there. I should have tried to keep pace with you."

She laid down slowly, a brief whine escaped her lungs as she bumped her ribs where she had bounced off of the cat. Watching him put the paste on his red paw, she rested her head on her front paws, feeling as if her whole body would melt into the ground- and tired enough to fall asleep as soon as she let herself. Fighting the sleep she yawned and smiled softly as his concern, "Bruised and tired, maybe a couple days rest and I should be good to travel." She sounded like her mother, everything had to do with travel and moving- as they were on their own, they had travelled cave to den to forest, always on the move for safety. Her heart longed to have her mother's white paws trot in rhythm with her own. Before her thoughts got lost in her own gray clouds that had gathered in her mind, her golden eyes caught Joey's shamed movement. Her head tilted in her paws curiously, and caught his gaze as he spoke to her.
Considering his words, she smiled again and shook her head, lifting it slowly. "I'm grateful that you stood between me and that thing. I am also grateful that you got away after getting hurt. Is it broken?" Warm words turned concerned with her question. It was dangerous to have anything broken in the wild. "Do you have a pack?" She asked on top of her other question. A pack... Tov had never been part of one, and always wondered why her mother never decided to be part of one. It had always seemed like a smart thing to do, to have someone to back you up and numbers to protect and work together. Also, more food... She also remembered watching a pack take down an elk from a distance. She watched them feast on the beast, and when they left, Tov and her mother had eaten the remains, which had not been much. Perhaps that would be her next move... The other part of her was resistant, only because of how she grew up wandering with her mother. It was what she knew, but now she was alone.
