DarkMoon began whimpering in his sleep. His ears twitches and so did his paws. He was dreaming about Kilpi and him being mates. But how far will he have to go to make this dream a reality? He began to wake up after a good half hour and realized she was gone. "Oh what's the use of me trying to get her to become my mate?" DarkMoon says as he began to cry. "Every time I try, it always ends in failure... maybe I should just go home and be a loner for the rest of my life..." he says in between sobs. But then... an idea popped into his mind. "Wait a second... Terra didn't lead me to Kilpi... it was Kilpi's past and my past that brought me to her..." he said in his mind. He then walks over to Kilpi and says "I also forgot to tell you that I too was a loner for most of my life... my parents abandoned me when I was a pup... and I had to fend for myself and that's how I found Terra. I think that it wasn't Terra that brought us into each other's lives... I think fate did..." DarkMoon's eyes glowed a little in suppressed excitement.

"Oh it's no problem. Frankly, I feel sorry for you. Love pup over there is kinda creepy. He's the one that rubs me the wrong way. I have no problem with you." He looked at the water falling down around the rocks. "I'm sorry about you almost drowning. I'm sure it's traumatizing. I know it might creep you out but I think if I had t choose a way to die I'd choose to die in the water." He sighed knowing that won't help her unease but not being able to stop his mind and mouth. He shook his head. "Sorry I know that's not something you want to hear or need to know."

DarkMoon's ears flatten as he hears the conversation between Earendil and Kilpi. "Gee, am I really that bad? No, that's impossible... I'm not trying to be creepy, I guess I just need to take it down a notch or two... the only trouble is, how can I suppress my emotions when I'm near her? It seems like whenever I try to talk to her, she doesn't seem to like it... Maybe I should try to work on that instead of suppressing my emotions, because I eventually will have to release them, otherwise they may drive me insane... but I also think there should be a time and a place where I can release all of my suppressed emotions, that way I don't freak her out." DarkMoon says to himself. Then he takes a deep breath and controls his emotions. He then says to Earendil in a calm manner "listen, I want to apologize for everything that just happened today. If I came off a little crazy to you, it's because I couldn't control my emotions. But that has changed, because I finally have gained control over my emotions, and I'm willing to start over again. My name is DarkMoon, I'm sorry that I didn't introduce myself earlier."

Earendil was even more discomfited by this. He felt almost as if he had crushed a puppy's dreams. He wished he had never said what he did. "Listen DarkMoon it's no trouble and I'm sorry you had to hear me say that." He hoped the lover didn't become like him. Although it was true that he could stand to take the creepy level down a notch he shouldn't act like a zombie because of a few wolves words. "Just do us all a favor and don't be so touchy about things will ya? That could help a lot." He turned back to stare at the water.

DarkMoon says "ok, I'll work on my touchiness, but I do believe that Kilpi and I could really get along together... I mean she and I both have been loners for a long time, and I figured that fate had done us both a favor by making our paths cross." He wags his tail in excitement before sitting down, his eyes glowing a little more in excitement. He then lays down and looks up at Kilpi, hoping that she'll understand that fate did in fact bring the two of them together. DarkMoon then sighed and closed his eyes once more. He eventually dozed off again and softly snored.

Now was the time to leave in Earendil's mind. the perfect opportunity to escape..and yet he couldn't. The water wouldn't let him go. He was trapped in a seemingly endless circle of awkward small talk and sleeping wolf. Sighing he decided to go with talking. "So Kilpi is it? I'm sorry we were never formally introduced. I'm Earendil by the way. I'm sure you think everyone's a weirdo after what's occurred today. If you don't mind me asking, how did you and love pup meet in the first place? And why was he following you?" Earendil didn't really care if she minded or not he was just uncomfortable and trying to break the tenseness with talk. He hated it the situation he found himself in. Where he was the one doing all the talk talk talk. Hated the fact that he was almost helpless to do much of anything else.

oh? So Darkmoon renounced his claim. It wasn't his deceased mate, but Fate! Now that surely would change her tune. Kilpi struggled to keep a straight face and dipped her head, not trusting herself to be kind. Afterall her mind was still woozy from her near drowning. Darkmoon wasn't a bad wolf, and he only came off creepy cause he didn't know how to act. But in truth, there were many lone wolves in the surrounding land, not just in the valley. Kilpi didn't want to offend him or drive him to tears, but she also wanted to be free to move, talk and run without having a lovesick loner on her tail. She felt that having someone in love with her was sweet, giving her hope. She might have a family someday. But Darkmoon, today...he needed to have time to clear his mind, get used to being social. She wasn't the best at it, but he had a lot to learn.
Now the other male spoke, he sounded longing. Not in the lovesick way Darkmoon spoke, but longing to be free, to leave this awkward circle. But something must be preventing him. She hoped it wasn't her. Instead of leaving, however, he introduced himself and gently asked for the story behind this exceedingly strange encounter.
"Yes, it's Kilpi. And, Earendil, I hope your view of me is not tainted," Kilpi wondered how quickly this wolf could change, one moment firmly antisocial, the next moment snapping at Darkmoon, and the next chatting with her and saving her life. It was a strange world she had been literally thrown into. "We met in the-now don't judge me- the Forest of Love. I might've seen it coming. But it was dark and he offered me a safe place to stay overnight. Another wolf antagonized him and helped clear my head, alerting me on the dangers of such a situation. They got into an argument and I left. He thinks we are meant to be...but...I've never been in a relationship and I don't want to start one that could never make me happy." Kilpi shook her head laughing self-consciously. "Sorry for sounding like such a naive romantic. I never planned my last 42 hours to be like this."

"Oh it's no problem. It's not like I was planning on having two guests over. I certainly wasn't planning on anyone almost drowning. But I guess there's a difference between your situation and mine. A big gap in the problems." He shook his fur coat and started pacing a little. Back and forth, back and forth trying to rid himself of the nervous mood and energy that had come upon him. He usually wasn't a wolf to become jumpy but apparently, his nerves had been frayed by staying out of the water for so long. He knew he could solve his problem by dipping a paw in the water and feeling the current but didn't out of respect for Kilpi. She already thought him odd enough. There was no need to add more evidence to the pile.

DarkMoon began to dream about him and Kilpi again, but this time, they had two pups with them. He dreamed of how happy they would be together. Then, the dream had a flashback... It was of the day that DarkMoon and Kilpi had their first kiss... DarkMoon said in the dream "you mean the world to me... and I don't know if I'd ever be happy again without you. Please, if you have any feelings for me, let them come to the surface. Kilpi... I-I-I love you... and I promise that I will do my best to keep you happy, no matter what. You have my word on this." Then the dream abruptly ended and DarkMoon wakes up. He looks at Kilpi and says "Kilpi, may I talk to you in private please?"

Earendil looked on edge. Kilpi didn't know why but his eyes kept flicking to the water. Looking at the swirling depths made her feel nauseous. He spoke about the falls as if it was his territory; his home. Perhaps it was. "I hope that my disturbance will be forgiven." She gave him a kind smile, her eyes warm. Earendil was a reasonable wolf, cool headed. (He wasn't bad looking either). However, she could not carry on her conversation as Darkmoon woke up from yet another nap. He wanted to speak to her in private. Again. She stood, not without much effort and nodded, out of breath already, her lungs refusing to expand. She looked over he shoulder at Earendil with an exasperated smile before padding to Darkmoon. She hoped that he would realize that you couldn't be so straightforward with your feelings to a stranger...it just drove them away. Maybe it worked with this 'Terra,' but she wasn't her. She wouldn't be a replacement. She wanted to be loved for who she was. And if Darkmoon wasn't going to act mature or give her that, he wasn't the choice she would make. She hated to be so romance-inclined around Earendil, quite frankly he made her flustered, her brain not focusing on the task at hand.

Once they were far enough away from Earendil, DarkMoon stopped. He turned to Kilpi, making sure that he makes direct eye contact with her and says "I know I should have said this from the moment we met, but... you mean the world to me... and I don't know if I'd ever be happy again without you. Please, if you have any feelings for me, let them come to the surface. Kilpi... I-I-I love you... and I promise that I will do my best to keep you happy, no matter what. You have my word on this." He then waited for her response, hoping that he made her like him. His eyes were still glowing, but not as bright as they were before. DarkMoon says in his mind "I sure hope this worked... it's my last resort... if this doesn't work, then I'll have no choice but to leave her alone."

Kilpi looked back to Earendil, her eyes silently begging for help. Darkmoon was filled with delusions of a perfect love life, finding the perfect mate within an evenings time. According to him she meant the world to him, and they had hardly spent more than 24 hours together, and even then, Kilpi thought that she had been straight forward in her efforts to tell him off gently. Perhaps she had been too gentle. He professed his love, begging her to let her 'reciprocal feelings' float to the surface. She could see the desperation in his eyes. A desperate wolf was a dangerous one. How should she start this? No! she wouldn't prance around the meaning of her words, she would tell him straight out how she felt. If it hurt his feelings, maybe he would finally learn how to treat someone you love.
"No. I don't love you. And you don't love me." Kilpi furrowed her brow, taking a step back. "You are living in the past, where life and love were kind to you. But surely you see now that life is hard and love is evasive. You have to find the right girl, not with your eyes but with your heart. You don't even know me! You don't know a single things about my past save that I am a loner. Do you know my favorite food? My alignment? Do you know how many miles i've walked? Do you care to know how I feel? How I feel about death and war? What if i'm not ready to love? Would you care? Maybe you only care about your own happiness. You should try seeing with a clear mind. Walk in someone else's paws."
She spouted all of this on a few short gasps of breath, her voice rising in volume. Now that she was finished, her chest heaved sharply with the strenuous effort. She panted, widening her stance so she wouldn't fall or faint. Taking another step back she spoke quieter. "To be truthful...if I were to choose a mate out of those present...It wouldn't be you."

DarkMoon felt like he had just been crushed. "Well... if that's the way you feel about me... then I guess I wish we never had met in the first place! I was never living in the past, I truly did love you... but now, I don't know if I still do! All I've done is tried... and to think, that all this time... all this time I wasted, was for nothing! Here I was, thinking that I had a chance to find love again... why didn't you just cut me off when I started? I never thought I'd hear myself say this... but Kilpi, I give up... you've won... I hope you're happy that you broke me!" After saying all of that, DarkMoon collapsed and cried harder than he ever had before. He never thought that he could have been hurt so bad, but here he was... Laying on the ground, crying, not from frustration this time... but from heartbreak. After he was done, DarkMoon got up and said "you... are cold-hearted... leading me on like that, then crushing me? That was one, low-down move on your part, Kilpi..." he then began to walk back to his den, head bowed down and ears flattened.

"I'm not here to break hearts, but you've got to understand my side of the story. Love shouldn't be tossed around like it's nothing. It has to be earned. If you really love-er...loved me you would've respected my decision and hoped to gain my love. Not by crying like a pup, but my being mature and wanting to get to know me. Sorry to hurt you, but love at first sight is superficial and surface based." Kilpi felt bad that she had crushed his confidence, but letting him down easy hadn't been working. She wasn't a lovesick pup, ready to put her heart into the first relationship that came her way. Her love would have to stick with her through trials and love her for her. Not just because she was the first pretty face he saw. Now she spoke in a comforting, gentle voice. "Get up Darkmoon, judge for yourself, find someone to love not based on first impressions, but on experience. I know i've never been in a relationship, but I don't think your current method is working out for you."
Then he proceeded to call her cold hearted, accusing her of leading him on. Was she not apparently telling him off? this male was unbelievable. Anger rose in her throat as he left. Shaking her head, she turned to Earendil, her cheeks puffing up with embarassment. "Heh, sorry..." she croaked.

He watched all this happen and just couldn't take it anymore. He'd find another place to stay. A place with just as much water. He looked at the falls one last time then told DarkMoon "Don't feel like the world is lost DarkMoon because it's not." Henthen turned and went to the edge of the forest. "Have a nice life you two." He threw the remark over his shoulder as a way of saying goodbye. He would never actually say goodbye unless he never planned on seeing the wolf again. He didn't know whether he would meet either one again but he wasn't going to say goodbye to them.
