Rykett @shiver Tiel tovaanaRayen;Rayen was exhausted. Her black-masked face was hanging low to the dry ground—thankfully the steady autumn rain that was falling had not entered the den. She and Leo had built their den under a large rooted tree. The wood provided a perfect roof for their little home, and the walls were sturdy and in no danger of collapse, even when they had to dig it out in preperation for the pups. Thankfully, Leo had done most of the digging. She was so thankful for that—there were plenty of pregnant females who had to do the digging alone. But her golden mate had worked endlessly to make sure it was perfect for her. She leaned against him and exhaled slowly into his fur. This was the perfect moment. The pups had been born, and all were healthy and happy. Five in total, and all females. She could see her own fur pattern reflected in their own little bodies, with echoes of Leo's golden shine as well. It was bliss. She had never thought she would have this—and now it was before her. She had a mate who, though couldn't remember his past, was eternally sweet and caring. She had five daughters who would grow up to be strong—quick like her, and gentle like Leo. It was like a perfect dream that she didn't want to wake up from; then again, she didn't have to wake up from it. This was her life, now. "Xena," She smiled at the first and eldest of their daughters. They had chosen the name because it felt powerful, daring, strong. She was half golden, and half green, and all speckles in between. Though her eyes weren't open yet, Rayen could already tell that she would be quite as colourful as her fur. The second daughter, and the one who most reflected Leo's colouring, yipped in her sleep. "Rhul," Rayen cooed, calming her. This little one was already making her parents laugh. She seemed to strike Rayen as somewhat of a toughy—like she wouldn't take any sort of nonesense from her older sister. Rayen smiled, thinking about watching the little firecracker grow up. "Ka." The third daughter to be born to them. Her fur was ivory, with beautiful brown and green markings along her legs, tail, and back. This name meant 'spark of life', and though usually it was a male name, Leo and Rayen thought it suited her perfectly. In the little time that Rayen had known her, she had already shown herself to be a wild, feral, adventurous soul. She shifted her gaze to her second-youngest daughter, the fourth born. "Midori," Rayen spoke fondly. Green. Her coat was a light green, with darker speckles along her back and muzzle. She was quiet and shy, like an empty meadow on a cool spring day. Rayen could already sense that she would hold her sisters in the highest regard. The final daughter, the fifth, was an albino. "Kuu." Rayen finished in a whisper. Kuu meant moon, and a more fitting name the pair couldn't have picked. Her fur was pure white, like a full moon—beautiful and strange. Kuu lived up to this name as well, fierce in everything she did. Rayen had no doubt that should her siblings ever find themselves in trouble, Kuu would guide them, just as the moon gives light in the darkest of nights. Rayen smiled. Five perfect pups. She turned to Leo and nudged him once more, overflowing with happiness and gratitude to the Power and the White Wolves for such a beautiful litter. Could they have asked for a more perfect beginning to their story?

Leo:
Whatever Leo had been before he hit his head in the ruins was nothing now. Another story was to begin with him and Rayen, and five beautiful daughters that were to grow up with him to protect them. He gazed upon his pups, the names the couple had picked suited them perfectly. Rayen seemed rather knowledgeable on names, and had given each one its own deep meaning. She was so smart, Leo didn't even know what his own name meant…because he had forgotten.
"We're parents," he said softly, until the full impact of what he said struck him. He was a father. These were his pups, and he would be the one who raised them. What if he failed? How was he supposed to parent pups when he couldn't even remember his own parents? Or his childhood for that matter?
He took a breath. He had Rayen. They would do this together, and they would be wonderful parents.
Rhul began to whine quietly, and he touched her with his nose. Her coat was brilliant, and matched autumn perfectly. That brought Leo back to when he and Rayen first met. "You match the autumn colours," she had said in the ruins last autumn. Had it really been that long? A full year since they first met one another.

:Fast-forward: Rayen, Ka;The pups were really starting to show their true colours now. Personalities were shining through from each daughter. They were now old enough to play outside the den, yet not so old that Rayen or Leo would allow them to leave their sight. One parent or the other still brought back food for the family, the pups not yet being of an age to begin learning. All small, all delicate, and yet they were as alive as ever. Currently, Rayen was lounging in the den. It was winter in the valley now, but the sturdy den had kept out all elements of the cold, and since they were in a reasonably sheltered part of The Copse, the snow was not threateningly deep outside their door. It drifted in places higher than Rayen's own head, but there was no fear of losing any of their children. It was a peaceful winter, and the sun drifted lazily through the leafless branches of the trees. Everything was bright and sparkling, and the first hints of Spring were beginning to show. It wasn't quite as coldâthe wind, not as strong. The ivory pup, third born and dubbed Ka, had awoken before her sisters. Her markings were gorgeous, and Rayen often found herself staring. How was it that she could have created and fostered such beauty? Ka's markings were like the reeds by a calm lake; the roots of a deep tree; the forks of distant lightning. All of her daughters were beautiful in their own way and Rayen was deeply in love with each of them—but Ka was awake and the closest to her. It was easy to focus in on one thing when there wasn't a whole litter of young ones rushing around and vying for attention. "Mother, may I go out and play?" Ka asked. Her liquid golden eyes were alight, as they always were. Even before she could walk, Ka had been giving her parents a run for their money. She was a spark, that was for sure. All the fire of her father's coat had gone into her personality. "Leo..." Rayen spoke softly, sleep still hinting at the edges of her words. "You're daughter wants to go outside and play..."((OK! So, I know that Leo and Rayen haven't officially escaped the Evil wolves in "Spreading Shadows" or proclaimed their love yet per se, but I want to start on some character development for these little girls before they get killed, and that's why we love liquid time. If each pup/member could post at least once a week, it would be much appreciated! @shiver Rykett Tiel tovaana ))

A pale tangerine ball lay nestled against her sisters, as still as a stone, only stripes and light freckles visible to any onlooker. Until, that is, part of the warmth left. The fluffy stone moved as her dreams changed, the words of her sister seeping into her vibrant dreams. Had they not been addressed to ‘mother’ she would have thought they were for her, but the word mother is what started to bring her to and out of her dreams. The ball of tangerine started to unfurl, kicking something as she did so – probably one of her sisters. Pale red eyes blinked in the semi darkness of the den, rolling to a position where she was looking at an upside down Ka appealing to her mother.
She was on her back now, and after a great yawn and stretching (in the process bumping her other sisters more and pushing her away from them) she flipped to her feet, red gaze quickly alert.
“Ka, shhhh.” She whispered, motioning to the opening. So silly, asking to go out. It would taken forever for one of their parents to awake, decide who would watch them, and go outside.
“C’mon.” Rhul said in her puppy whispering tone, that probably carried further than she meant it to. Her floppy paws edged away from her parents and started at a clumsy run toward the entrance to freedom.

Leo:
Leo was snoozing that winter morning. He usually got up earlier, but raising pups was difficult enough, he clung to the last bits of sleep he could get. He heard Ka asking her mother if she could go outside, and Rayen directed her to Leo. Eyes still closed, he groaned slightly. "Before sunrise she's your daughter" he joked.
He heard a rustling, then Rhul's mischievous little voice urging Ka to sneak outside unsupervised. He blinked his eyes open to find streams of light pouring into the den, and it was clearly well past sunrise. He had slept in later than he thought. "Not so fast, you two," he said, beginning to sit up. "I'm coming, I'm coming." Leo tried not to wake his other daughters as he crawled out of the den, but Midori was sleeping atop his back, her tiny head nestled into his lion's mane for warmth. He leaned over and nudged her with his nose to wake her, then lifted her off his back as gently as he could, setting her down by Rayen's feet.
He padded out into the snow behind Ka and Rhul. The snow was clean and glittering, the sound of happily chattering birds welcoming the two girls. Leo sat right outside the den with both daughters in view, and he watched them romp and play in the snow. "Don't go too far, you two."
Midori:
Midori was lost in a dream where she was prancing through a wide meadow of gold and orange grass, chasing butterflies and smelling the strange orange wild flowers that tickled her paws. Her whole family was there, and she played with her sisters while her parents watched. Everyone was happy.
Then she heard voices. They belonged to Ka, Rhul, Mother and Father, but they were outside of her dreamland, beyond the sunset colored meadow. The dream faded away, and the meadow turned into Father's orange coat. She shuddered at a cool winter breeze that brushed against her, but allowed her father to lift her up and place her next to Mother's paws. She watched two of her sisters wander outside into the cold morning, wondering what would make them want to go outside on a cold day like this. Midori just climbed up onto her mother's back and positioned herself the way she had been atop Leo's back before. She wrapped her tail around herself and tried to doze off again, back into dreamland where she could play in that warm golden meadow, but couldn't seem to fall back asleep. After a few minutes she realized she was restless, and it would be no use falling back asleep, but she still clung to her mother's warmth and dared not step outside.
She got bored of that, so she began to whisper in her mother's ear. She needed someone to talk to. "Mommy?" she whispered. "Are you awake? I wanna tell you about what I was dreaming about. I was in a meadow just like the one outside but there was no snow and it was gold and orange like Daddy and Rhul and Xena and we were all there, you too, and we played and chased butterflies and there were flowers that smelled nice and we were laughing and singing and…" Midori went on and on, until she wore herself out.

Xena:
A sliver of silvery blue was visible under Xena’s eyelids as she slitted an eye open to peer at her wide-awake siblings. They were trying to wake Mommy and Dad. Xena shut her eyes again with a smile. ’Good luck. You won’t be able to get Mommy and Dad out of bed for another couple-’ her mental words were cut short by the sounds of Dad getting up. Xena’s eyes flew open. She flopped to her feet, rather ungracefully, and barreled after her father. ”Wait! I wanna go outside, too!” She crashed into Leo as he sat outside the den. The momentum sent her tumbling to her father’s feet.
Craning her head up to look up at Dad, she smiled, letting him know she hadn’t hurt anything. ”Good Morning, Dad!” she barked, happily. The sound of crunching snow announced her approach as she bounded towards her sisters. Her breath puffed out in a cloud of fog in the crisp winter morning air. The cloud quickly disappeared as the brightly colored wolf pup leaped through it to continue on her way. Xena felt invincible as she flew through the air with confidence. All the world seemed perfect that morning. She had her family and they were all safe and sound within a pack territory. Nothing could touch them here.

Kuu had been deep asleep, dreaming of nothing in particular. If it had been particular, maybe it would've stuck to the flypaper which was her mind. The albino shewolf was snuggled in the heap of pups, her consciousness becoming ever sharper as each package of warmth left her. There were sill a few heaters left, but the racket and movement were enough to force Kuu to the cliff overhanging 'fully-awake' ocean. She tipped over the brink gracefully, swan diving towards waking life. There she would play and laugh, and tease, and patrol...Kuu's pinkish-red eyes flew open and her round, squishy form flew upwards, her paws catching her before she fell. Her uncontrollable ears flopped this way and that as she bounded crazily out of the den. She practically flew over Xena's head as she made the last second decision to leap over her sister. Kuu landed in the dew laden grasses, creating a flattened part in the landscape with her sheer velocity.
"GOOD MORNING!" Kuu howled, sending her yipping and yelping voice into the once peaceful atmosphere. She sent a single quail flapping towards its hidden grassy nest, her call a disrupting flurry of noise. Because of her laziness one would peg her as a quieter, slower creature, but this was not so. Kuu was a fierce, passionate soul. She did everything to her best ability, and that meant slacking off too.

Rayen, Ka;
Rayen closed her eyes as the rest of her daughters piled out of the den and into the snow, her mate following close behind. She gave him a warm smile as he went. She was glad she had him here. After the run-in with the evil wolves months before, her shoulder was still not up to par. She could walk and trot, but in the mornings it was often stiff, and she had developed a little bit of a limp. Once it was warmed up, of course, Rayen could once again resume an almost-normal gait of running, but it was getting there that sometimes proved to be an issue. A visit to White Magic would certainly hammer out any lasting effects of her injury, but with initially being too hurt to make the journey, then too pregnant, and now too much of a mother, she hadn't yet gone.
Beside her, Midori began to talk. Ah, so much for sleep. When Midori started talking, all was lost. Rayen lifted a calming paw and draped it across her daughter's head, humming low in her chest. Maybe, just maybe, she would go back to sleep. Rayen knew this wouldn't happen.
Ka bounded through the snow, yipping to her sisters. Rhul had led the way, but Ka had been quick to follow, nipping at her heels and generally causing a ruckus. In a matter of seconds Xena was outside too, and Kuu as well. As much as Kuu almost blended into the snow, Xena stuck out that much more. And with a flick of her ears, Ka could hear Midori inside talking up a storm. Dad was there, watching on, but mom had not yet emerged from the den. "Quick!" Ka yelled, circling and creating a small tunnel in the snow. "Pretend like I'm mom and you guys are the evil wolves!" She didn't have to clarify which story she was referring to. It was a regular in the den. While the pups had not gotten all of the grisly details, nor any descriptions of the evil wolves that had attacked their parents, they knew the general story of how their parents had fallen in love.
Ka leapt onto a mound in the snow and ebgan prowling, practicing her snarling and preparing for an assault.

Rhul was creeping closer to the entrance when she heard her father’s quick awakening. A part of her cringed and her ears drooped, she had been excited to sneak out – and now the excitement of doing what you weren’t supposed to was gone. However, the feeling quickly passed as she realized either way, she was free! Her striped back legs propelled her forward to the outside, where white crunchy snow covered their home. Her pale red eyes glanced around, taking in the white wonderland, hoping that it didn’t melt any time soon.
She came to a stumbling stop as she heard two more of her siblings rocket out of their den and into their playing area. Since she was always in a playing and adventurous mood, she was glad that the others had the same pent up energy from resting all night long. Rhul felt laughter bubble out of her in response to Ka’s pretend game.
“Oh, oh, I’ll be dad!” She twisted around and leapt to stand between Ka and her sisters.
“I’ll protect you!” Howled Rhul, crouching and putting on her most ferocious face, which altered every moment or so, as she was trying not to smile and laugh. But Rhul loved play pretending, and after a moment she could practically see and imagine her other sisters turning into dark creatures and approaching with devious looks. Her hair bristled and she stepped backward into Ka.

Leo:
Leo gasped as Xena slid in front of him. Broken bones?! Scratches?! White Magic! How long would a trip take? I'll take her myself while Rayen watches the— "Good morning, Dad!" Xena said cheerfully, blue eyes bright with glee. Leo sighed with relief at his unharmed daughter. If any of them ever got hurt, he would blame himself. Even if Leo lost his memory again, there was no way he would ever forget his injured daughter.
"Hey there, Cheeseball," he teased Xena. The nickname Rayen once called him while they were falling in love, he often used on his daughters.
Xena's sisters rushed out into the snow shortly after her. Two… three… four… there was still one little fur ball inside the den. Leo heard Midori talking her mother's ear off. He knew Rayen needed her rest. She was still recovering from her shoulder injury, one of the many results of that quarrel in the Barrens. "Midori? Pumpkin? Why don't you come out and play?" he called softly.
Midori:
Midori's mother began to softly hum to her daughter in an attempt to quiet her, but she just began to speak over the dulcet sound. "…the dream was peaceful, but I was sad when it ended and—Mom, are you listening? Mom, I hope I have the same dream tomorrow night. I can't go back to sleep now, Mom, I'm already awake. I can't wait until the day is over so I can have the dream again—" When Midori heard her father call, she paused. He was beckoning her to go outside and play with her sisters. A harsh breeze streaked her face from the den entrance, sending a chill down her spine. Why would she leave the comfort of the den for the bitter outdoors? Midori was much happier snuggled with her mother. She usually stayed in the den with or without her parents, though she couldn't stand being lonely, so she would hang around outside when she had to.
Then again, everyone outside sounded so cheerful. She heard her sisters giggling and tried to guess what game they might be playing. Probably the one where their parents fight off the evil wolves. Midori loved that one.
After contemplation, she decided to go out and play for a little bit. Midori stood up, then let her green paws drag her out into the snow. She blinked in the morning light, then made out the shapes of her sisters. She would often watch them play their little games, admiring them as they acted like stoic warriors or ferocious pumas. Now, she would join their game. She might not enjoy it, but it would feel nice being a part of it.
"C-can I play?" she asked the group. Of course they would let her. They often encouraged her to come join them. But this was the first time she actually would.

Xena:
The little pup giggled at the nickname. She had no idea what it meant, but it sounded quite strange and funny. Xena liked it whenever Dad called her it. Xena joined her siblings just in time to hear Ka’s game introduction. Xena loved this story! Mom and Dad were so brave and the evil wolves were so scary! It was the perfect bedtime story and the best part was that it was all true. Xena couldn’t believe such a great adventure had happened to Mom and Dad. Xena hoped some adventure would happen to her one day. Then she could save a life or defeat a ton of evil wolves. She’d do something big!
Ka claimed the role of Mom, but Dad’s role was still open. Xena jumped at the opportunity, but not as quickly as Rhul leaped for it. Xena’s orange sister twisted around to protect Ka from the evil wolves, which was the role automatically assigned to the rest of the sisters including Xena. Xena pouted, frustrated. Why did she have to be an evil wolf? If anybody should play Dad or Mom, it was her. She was the oldest! But what if she could change the story by being an evil wolf? If she won, she could make a completely new, twisted version of the story where the evil wolves beat Mom and Dad. Of course, that would never happen in real life, but this was just pretend, so there was no reason why Xena couldn’t shake things up a little. This new opportunity intrigued Xena and her frown turned upside-down as she embraced her role. She ducked her head and lowered her eyebrows to seem threatening. ”I’ll be the shadow master she-wolf! I’m gonna kill you with my evil shadow monsters!!!”
Xena mimicked bending the shadows while she made some ”shing, swoosh, shwah,” sound effects. She froze mid-motion and noise as Midori approached and asked to join in. Xena dropped the act to address Midori, ”Sure! You can be one of the evil wolves with Kuu and me!” She flashed a smile at her green sister before reassuming her role as the great shadow witch. ”Attack! she squeaked and charged Ka. She let out a battle roar, ”Raaawr!”
((Hope all of you don’t mind if Kokem and Timbre jump in to play! ^^))
Kokem:
Kokem hated punishments. They were no fun at all. Her mouth tasted like old leaves, which was expected she held a large bundle of them. This was all Timbre’s fault! She shouldn’t be punished for being right! As a sign of her anger, she’d ignored her brother for the length of the chore, giving him the silent treatment. At least they were nearly done with the task. All they needed to do was dispose of these last bundles of leaves then they could get back to playing.
A grey ear swivelled towards some voices and Kokem froze. She craned her neck looking for the sources. They sounded young, like pups! Then she spotted them. There was a group of five playing in the snow. Kokem hadn’t met any other pups, before. Most of the time, her only playmate was Timbre. Kokem was dying for some other wolves to play with. In her excitement at the prospect of new friends, she forgot about the silent treatment and turned to Timbre. She dropped her bundled to speak, ”Hear that? There are other pups here! We should go play with them! I’m sure if we just spread the leaves around here, Dad will never know we didn’t take them to the pile!” Without waiting for Timbre’s approval, Kokem kicked her tiny leaf pile, trying to make them look natural. ”Come on, Timbre! Let’s go!” then she barrelled off towards the pups.
As she drew nearer, Kokem crouched low. Maybe she could make a great first impression if she made a surprise grand entrance. Kokem slithered along the ground, her belly pressed against the cold snow. It was more difficult to sneak without the usual long grass that covered most of Tranquil Meadows. Kokem hoped she’d managed it. She was close enough now. Kokem pounced into the center of their group. ”Whatcha guys playing? Can I play, too?!”

Kuu:
"Aww...I wanted to be the shadow wolf!" The little Albino pup pouted slightly before shrugging it off, whatever. If this was going to be a fun game, she would play it to the best of her ability. She lowered her head, raised her shoulders and bunched her tiny hind-quarters under her, tiny paws digging into the crunchy crystals underpaw. "Alright then! Be prepared to LOOOOOOOSE!" Kuu launched herself forward, a fire in her pink eyes. However, her very well thought through leap did not take off, her back paws slipping on the compacted snow, sending her face-first into the snow. "EEP!" She squealed prying her head out of the snow. Little clumps and clods of ice clung to her face, giving her strange white baubles around her eyes and muzzle. She sat up just in time to see two strange pups coming towards their group. It took a moment for her to process this as she simply stared at them for a moment before reacting. With a suspicious pout she regained a standing pose and rushed foreward towards the black pup, getting up in her face. "HEY. Who are you?!" she asserted herself by trying to make herself look bigger, glaring down at her bright green eyes.
Timbre:
He was nearly finished stacking the orange mottled leaf atop the yellow one when Kokem announced her plan and knocked hers over. "We were doing a job? Oh," Timbre had forgotten about a punishment and had just been collecting pretty colored leaves from under the trees. With a shrug, he stood and flicked his own pile over and began to follow his sister. But halted, spun on his heel and retrieved the orange and brown mottled one. It was too pretty to leave behind. Now to the task at hand. Kokem had said that she had spotted other pups. This shocked Tim slightly. There were more Kokems? What a terrifying world this was turning out to be. After a small moment of reflection he raced to catch up with her.

Ka, Rayen;
Xena quickly claimed the role of the shadow wolf—a favourite among the sisters. There was just something exciting about playing evil wolves, when their whole family was the best kind of good. It was just so far removed from anything the pups had had to deal with before, that there was no fear there—only excitement. At least for Ka. Rhul decided to play dad, and that made sense too. She had played an evil wolf last time anyway, so it was her turn. Ka couldn't even remember who she had played last time, but it was her idea to play and so she got first picks anyway. Midori came out to play as well, to Ka's surprise. She usually stayed inside, at least during the colder days. But today wasn't too bad. Kuu, Xena, and Midori decided to all be bad guys, and she and Rhul were mom and dad. Ka raised her rump in the air and was just about to barrel into Xena's shoulder, just like in the real story, when more pups showed up. "Oh wow!" Ka shouted, wagging her tail and bounding through the snow to meet the newcomers. She snuffled them loudly, pouncing back and forth and running chest-first as puppies do when exited. "We're playing!! You guys can come in and rescue me and Rhul if you want!" That wasn't the original story, but they were allowed to add things in if they wanted!
As the shouting got louder, Rayen chuckled and heaved herself up. She ducked her black-masked face through the mouth of the den, and limped to go sit beside Leo. Her shoulder was more tender in the cold air, but walking was good for it. She maintained the firm idea in her mind that if she ever did want to go see White Magic for it, by golly she would get there herself. She grinned at their daughters running around in the snow. She nuzzled Leo and breathed in the smell of his mane—Sunshine and safety, as always. "You're good," She hummed, referring to him as a whole. He was good for her, good for their pups, and good in general. She smiled again, truly content.
It looked like the sound of their loud offspring attracted a few more pups. Rayen watched on carefully, but sat back with another chuckle. They smelled of Eternal Snowfall, and their daughters hadn't met any friends yet. She made eye contact with the older new-comer and smiled at him welcomingly.

Her pale red gaze darted to Xena who claimed the ‘shadow’ wolf in the story. She growled as she wielded her ‘shadows’ and crouched defensively and looked around as if she were blinded momentarily.
“Your shadow tricks don’t scare me!” She said, lowering her voice and trying to mock dad’s tone. She growled and went to run and face her siblings when her more timid sister came out of the den and spoke up. Everyone seemed to pause for a moment, but Rhul didn’t think too much of it, Midori could be an evil wolf – but she usually just watched anyways. Refocusing her attention on Xena and Kuu, ready to attack Kuu since Ka was going for Xena, again her momentum was thwarted by the sudden presence of others.
More pups! While she wasn’t the most social wolf, she loved to play and she especially loved new things – which automatically included these new wolves. She stared at Kokem who had pounced in the middle of their quarry and glanced over at Ka who suggested they come rescue them. Her tangerine head tilted and the stripe around her muzzle split as she opened her mouth to protest.
“Wait, wait, wait – but they don’t know the story!” She glanced at the more timid male that was trailing behind; he had a large mottled leaf in his maw. She was momentarily distracted again, as she had grown up with all her sisters, and no brothers. She still wouldn't let the male take her part as dad. And this all was slowing down her playtime, as much as she liked story time – she was about to clobber her sisters!

Midori:
Midori was welcomed into the game by Xena, instructed to play the role of another evil wolf. Her orange and green sister immediately took on the role of the "shadow wolf," which Kuu complained about wanting to be. Hating when her sisters were upset, Midori spoke up softly. "Weren't there two shadow wolves? Kuu can be the other one." She pawed at the snow in front of her as she spoke, her brown eyes fixed on some distant birds overhead.
An unfamiliar voice suddenly joined the choir of giggling she-pups, and Midori fixed her gaze on an excited female pup. While Kuu harassed the stranger, Midori turned to another pup, a male with blue markings. "Hello," she said, a shy smile finding its way to her maw.
Leo:
Leo smiled when Midori came out to play. He was glad she was gaining some courage, and hoped she would grow up to be bold like the rest of her sisters were. Leo's mind wandered back to the fight in the barrens as his daughters began mimicking the story he and Rayen had told them over and over again. Usually, he would shudder when remembering that quarrel, but it didn't seem so awful when a bunch of pups were reenacting the event. It just seemed kind of cute.
While the girls assigned roles to one another, Leo felt the air next to him grow warm, and he turned to meet Rayen's eyes for a moment. He grinned, then turned back to his romping pups. Rayen leaned into his fur, and he rested his head against hers. Then Rayen made a comment about his goodness. Of course he was good. This was Eternal Snowfall, after all. But he considered whether or not his mate was talking about a different kind of good. A good beyond alliances.
"I think we're all kind of good together," he said. "I mean, as a family." And maybe as a pack, too he mused when two Eternal Snowfall pups came to join the fun. "Good morning," he called to them both. Their daughters needed some friends. It was ideal that they get to know the pack-mates which they were to grow up with. Then Rhul made a comment about them not knowing the story. Leo padded over to the group. "That's right," he said. "and I wouldn't mind telling it again. What do you think, Rayen? Shall we tell these newcomers the tale of our encounter with the evil wolves?"
Leo sat by the girls, then looked the new she pup in the eye with a playful expression. "And since you girls know the story, you can help us explain."
