Manaaki;
Bingo! Topaz had noticed exactly what Manaaki wanted her to notice; perhaps not the exact same details, but her mind was in the perfect place and would only get stronger with practice. The big silver male's tail swept the air behind him.
"Very well done," Manaaki hummed. "Don't make the mistake to think that intruders could only hide where you pointed out, but those are the most likely places, and the most obvious—which means that in all probability, that is where somebody would be hiding. If this were a true border patrol, you might go and double-check through the bushes, though you would always keep the border in sight, and you wouldn't so far from the bushes that you yourself were lost from view. A lot of the time even just our presence is enough to either draw out a prospective member, or keep a would-be intruder at bay. Today, though, I don't smell anything from those bushes and the wind is in our favor—so it's not likely that there is anybody hiding there."
She added that she could smell a lot as well, especially about the forest and the air around them. Manaaki nodded smoothly.
"It's good to notice the weather. An oncoming storm could mean disaster for a scout if they had saved checking over the river-banks for last, for example." There were no rivers that pressed close to the borders of Secluded Sunrise though, but this was good information to have all the same. It also pays to be aware that rain might produce mud, which might make unfamiliar wolves harder to smell." He smiled lightly at her, calm as ever, but proud and pleased. He glanced up the clouds himself and saw that they were indeed gathering in the afternoon sky.
"This has been a very good first day," Manaaki said. "Do you have any other questions? If not, I'd say same time tomorrow and we can look it all over with fresh eyes. Perhaps I'll even show you a few of the shortcuts."
((What do you think, Tiel? Want to keep this up? If not, I say we end it here, but maybe open up the possibility of a thread with another wolf (hostile or not) that they meet while doing a border patrol together or something? It says Trainees need four seasons of training, which technically we've done now xD But if we start another one up this season it will make it official!))
