((Yes Yami is still tied to the trees, but I think when I bring her in I will have had her aged up. I am getting art done of her as young adult soon, so I think in this thread she will be just an older-pup, not quite young adult yet.
Also, TECHNICALLY Nyx became a level 3 Shadow Master after this thread started, but unless anybody minds, I will play her as a level 3 from here on out. This is really the perfect crew for her to practice with, and starting a whole other thread just to show them seems rather annoying. Let me know if somebody is against that, but don't worry, I won't have her overdue it x) I am going to type this reply as the level that she is, and if anybody is in opposition, I can edit it. I think it will be fine though, as I don't want her to flaunt her power just yet; and besides, she is still super new to being a full shadow elemental, so not much will happen anyway.))
Yami;
These thorns were fresh. She had outgrown the first leash, and rather than letting it become embedded in her skin, Nyx had ripped it out of her neck and given her a new one. This had happen many times over as Yami grew. She still was not big, for she still was not very old, but even for her age she was thin. Not quite stunted, but small, in both body and personality.
The thorned leash was too tight to allow her to sit away from the tree to which Nyx had tied her, so she leaned against it, front-paws raised up slightly to take the pressure off her neck. It really was much too tight, but Yami had not complained. She had stood, though tried to sit at first and had to stand to maintain breathing, in silence. Her feelingless eyes were locked on Nyx, who had met with a few others a ways off in the open field. Her master had been playing fantastic tricks with the shadows, but when the other had arrived, the male, she had stopped her games. Yami watched with rapt and learned reverence, keeping herself perfectly still, half-hoping she would just fall into the tree and stay there forever more.
She had actually started to doze off in her half-standing state, for it was rare that she was allowed to sleep on her own time, when a few heavy footsteps and the sound of another form behind her snapped her back to consciousness. There were others around Nyx now, and with a gut-wrenching feeling she recognized one as Fenrir, the brute who had almost killed her, and his sister Sigyn, who was worth nothing at all to the aging pup.
But whoever was behind her was unfamiliar. The leash was too tight for her to turn and get a proper look, but when she shadow she had been trying to blend into suddenly flickered and disappeared behind her, she snarled and yanked against the leash in agitation. What foul game was this? Another shadow demon?
Foam quickly coated Yami's mouth, her usually-feelingless eyes alight with terror and unrealized anger, when a male voice spoke up behind her. He stood over her and asked where her mother was. Yami's ears pinned against her head and she gave a guttural hiss rather than answering. She half-wondered if the male before her wasn't just Nyx in some other form. Who knew what her master was capable of? Lately she had seemed to become even stronger, and there was no telling what could come next.
He said something to her then, surely meant to hurt her, but the joke was on him, as Yami had no family, and no feelings left to speak of, either. She stopped growling and fixed him with a cold stare instead. He knew nothing of the she-demon he spoke of.
Nyx;
"Yes. Am I to assume that you're both of evil alliance as well?"
So she was evil too, was she? It would seem that Nyx was drawn to evil wolves, or perhaps they to her. She watched Celest closely, forgetting for a moment to liven-up her eyes, and instead staring at her with the unsettling and curiously dead glint of her regular gaze. Of course she was evil herself, but did such a question deserve an answer? Nyx tasted her answer on her tongue before she said it, Yukio answered about himself and left her own answer pleasantly unsaid. She opened her mouth, taking a gentle breath of air, when yet again she was interrupted, but this time by a more-familiar scent than Yukio's.
Her head snapped to one side, just in time to see Fenrir and Sigyn approaching the now-growing bunch. A sickly grin formed in her mind that she held off her mouth, and she realized just how familiar this little meeting was becoming. Sigyn asked what they were playing at, and Yukio, ever-charismatic, as Nyx had quickly learned, answered that they were playing guess the alliance. She fought not to roll her eyes, but it was still her turn to answer; her job to decide whether to keep the game going or not. The blue and brown male was interesting, to his credit, and one that Nyx wanted to know more about, but in the moment she wasn't sure whether keeping up the facade was worth it to her.
She purposely let her eyes drift past Fenrir completely, though gave a very slow nod to Sigyn, before looking once more at Celest on Yukio's other side. She gave a half-sincere smile, the most she could muster in such company, deciding to at least give one more go at it.
"I'm as good as he says," She said, throwing her voice to a regular pitch with some difficulty now that she had an interest to see where the interaction would go, now that more familiar wolves had turned up. Sigyn and Fenrir would surely notice the change her voice had taken, but as far as she was concerned, fun at Celest's expense was still beating out any other form of entertainment. "But as for being ugly—" Her falsely-cheerful voice died in her throat as a new tingle formed in her mind, one that she hadn't felt before; however, suddenly, somehow, she was aware of other shadows within The Barrens being bent—and not by her. It was an unmistakable feeling, so clearly familiar, and yet so new at the same time. Nyx's head swiveled into the exact direction that Bane now stood, seeing him for the first time, twisting shadows and toying against her servant with his teeth.
Nyx, Yami;
Yami turned to look where Bane's eyes were fixed, and found that he was looking at her master. She knew that not to go to Nyx would result in pain, and immense pain at that. She was so well-trained at this point that even a silent look from Nyx was as loud as a scream to Yami. She struggled against Bane's body above her, and once she had her footing, looked away from him as if he didn't exist anymore and started pulling against the thorns on her neck.
Nyx watched on coolly, her entire demeanor changed from the game she and Yukio had just been playing with Celest. Her shoulders had rounded once more, subconsciously, her ruff had stood back up as was more natural to her, and her neck was suddenly bent at a strange angle, making it appear disconnected or sore. In one fluid moment of her noticing that Bane had his teeth near her property, she had reverted back to all that she was, and more. She watched as Bane twisted the shadow of the tree that she had left Yami under. Yami was behaving, doing her best to get back to her master, but the fact that Bane was not only touching her servant, but touching what she now considered her shadows, too, irked her. Nyx hadn't noticed her powers growing in any substantial way over the last few seasons, but now, inexplicably, she could feel every twist and turn that Bane made with the shadow of the tree. This was new territory for Nyx, and not something that she would forget quickly, but it clearly meant something.
But she didn't let on to this knowledge—she didn't even show that she had noticed his active power at all. There was no need. After all, there were still appearances to keep up; still some semblance of the game that she and the others had been playing.
Nyx turned and glanced at Sigyn and then at Fenrir for the first time.
"You remember Yami," She rasped in a voice Celest hadn't heard yet, then turned her attention to Bane.
She took her own shadow from below her and stretched it out into a solid, thin cylinder. It stretched out across the ground and raced towards Bane and her slave. The only thing that might have hinted at her newfound height in power was the speed and ease with which her shadow reached the two others.
It reached Yami, only Yami, and brushed against her fur. The pup shivered. She had just gotten the feeling, as she had previously experienced a few days previously, that she could almost feel the shadow touching her. She pulled still harder against the vines when it did, eyes on Nyx and not even looking at Bane anymore, until her wicked leash finally snapped. Her neck was badly injured due to the strain, but she barely even seemed to notice. Quickly, Yami created a distance between her and Bane as she trotted up to the larger group. As she came over, Nyx's shadow cylinder retracted at the same time, creating the illusion that she was pulling Yami in.
Yami stopped a few paces from the others, as a proper slave should do, and sat at attention. Nyx watched her silently for a few moments, then turned to the others mutely. She half-raised her brow, giving a rare flick of her ears, almost daring them to comment. The aging, behaved, controllable pup before them would be a far-cry from the one that Sigyn and Fenrir had met before. Yukio, Bane, and Celest had never seen her before of course, though Bane seemed to have made the connection already, and Nyx found herself almost curious as to what they would think. There were many options, with the most likely being either that they would be interested, or offended. Nyx would have almost preferred if they didn't care about her at all—much like she herself did, but then that was their call to make. It certainly wasn't boring. Nyx met Celest's eyes and narrowed her own ever so slightlyâthe game was well and over now. The bleeding pup before them made no indication that Nyx was, in anyway, good.
Yami sat so still, that it was almost impossible to see her shivering.
