Weeks had passed since Piala's warning, and Vega had done her best to push her alphess' words from her mind. She had gotten exactly what she had always wanted, and her children would be grown before she knew it. She would not waste time, the precious time that was their childhoods, fretting about some distant, immaterial threat. She was going to make the most of it.
"Don't go too far out now, okay? Stay where Mama can see you." She said to Valravn as she settled down in the grass and placed Lucky at her belly. They valley was on the cusp of spring, the snow mostly melted and the breeze gradually warming, so Vega had decided on a family outing to the Lunar Meadow. She had ensured that all three of her children were well-fed in the preceding weeks, so she was confident that a new layer of fat would protect them from any chilly spots that remained.
To Sable, she gave an encouraging lick and nodded towards his sister, suggesting that they play together. His deafness had been no small problem...communication had been nearly impossible at first. But his drawings allowed him to communicate somewhat with them, and with practice and dedication she had worked out how to communicate with him in a rudimentary way, through a series of gestures and signals. Her nose against his flank meant "stay here," a nod towards a wolf or object meant "go ahead!" A tender bump of her nose against his meant, "I love you."
This was her dream, and she couldn't be happier.
