Where were they? Worry raced along his bones like electric wildfire spreading through him until he couldn't contain the she they any longer. Ramone ran. His large paws pounded through the ice layered underbrush, dead twigs snapping off and cracking under paw. Tear and Ramone had been searching for what seemed like forever. It was quite clear that Blaise's two pups; Ruko and Amora were no longer abiding in this territory.

He wondered if they had just wandered too far off, or if they got kidnapped by some evil wolf, or killed by a wolverine or lynx. With winter in full swing, they could've easily frozen to death. Ramone stopped running and skidded to a halt at the bank of a frozen stream that was halted in its downward climb by the hungry snows of winter. The exotically patterned male huffed out a breath if white steam, his flanks shuddering as he stared wide eyed at the territory beyond. He stood in the edge of the world. The edge of Secluded Sunrise territory. With a dejected sigh his eyes became weary and his shoulders sagged. Ramone turned to scope the path behind him for his mate Tear. Tear was the best thing that had happened to him. She was clever and beautiful, strong and playful. He hoped that in the spring a few pups would be dancing around her with the same mottled pelts as their mother. But last time Ramone had asked Tear, she had said she wanted to wait. She wasn't ready. He respected that. Many shewolves would've given in, but Tear wasn't like them. She knew what she wanted and she knew how to get it. He guessed that's what came from formally being evil.

Tear was frightened and worried just as much as her mate was. Though, she knew that her mate was closer to the two pups than she was. Why couldn't pups do as their mother told them? Sfghe supposed that she wasn't much better when she was a pup. When he started running, she huffed and struggled to keep up, lagging behind slightly. When the she wolf did catch up, she nearly smacked into the ebony wolf in front of her. She'd noticed the markings anywhere and stopped just before him. Noses just a few inches from each other, she gave a slightly forced smile.

"Hey, sweetie." She panted. Tear had said it lightly, using the tone Ramone used every time he did something that bugged her. They had been together for two years and that surprised her. Time had flew by. Regaining her composure, yet she hadn't caught her breath, she stepped next to Ramone to peek out over where he was looking before she had arrived. She pushed a brown and tan shoulder under her mate's to support some of his weight. She gazed at him with concern and pushed her nose into his cheek. "Are you doing okay? We can rest for tonight." She murmurred.

Ramone leaned into his mates warm fur with a sigh, a cloud of white breath hissing out of his teeth. "It's just...I feel...ugh...well, I feel like I failed. We were supposed to find Amora and Ruko, but...they're gone. Really gone. I just thought that I could actually do something." Ramone sat down, raccoon stripes pressed against the snow. "I just don't like to feel helpless. I feel like I have to do something. Have I ever told you about my mother?"

Ramone shifted his sunset orange gaze towards his paws. "Along time ago, when I was a pup I lived alone with my mother. She was as quick as a whip and as clever as a clock. We would hole up in a different den each night. One hot summer, we stayed in the roots of a hollow tree. The forest was sick and dry so when a summer thunder storm rolled in, and a bolt if lightning set fire to the den, there was no escaping the falling trunks. Well, unless you were small. Like me." Ramone grimaced as if he was experiencing physical pain. "I watched her die, and I couldn't do anything about it."

When her mate began the story of his life before she entered it, she sat down beside him and pushed her shoulder against his. She sadly listened to his tale of his mother's death and she sniffed. In her head, she imagined a pup version of Ramone then saw his mother as her trapped inside a den and her pups and Ramone watching her. She pressed her nose into his cheek and nuzzled his neck."You'll never be useless in my eyes. You were never useless to your mother then either. There wasn't anything that anyone could have done for her." She said softly as if if she said anything any louder, it would shatter the peace.

Ramone sighed wearily, the corners of his eyes wrinkling slightly. He was always the jokester, lightening the mood, playing around. Many thought him useless and immature. It was comforting to know Tear was always by his side, supporting him and loving him no matter what. "Thank you Tear. That means alot to me." The black male nuzzled his mate lovingly. He would always love her. She was the only girl he saw.

"Tell me, my Duchess: when?" His sunrise orange eyes locked on her own beautiful orbs, the intense expression portraying many words. A family. The pack. Love. Forever. Sons and daughters. Ramone smiled softly. This was truly the shewolf he would spend the rest of his life with, grow old with. Even though they rushed at the beginning, they had taken it slow for seasons.

Tear returned the smile to Ramone. The only difference was the fact that hers was somewhat more shy than his. Over the time they had spent together an the rime she spent as a neutral wolf has changed her. She lacked her obnoxious and snarky comments and her self-centered, protected personality. Though she had receded into a more sheepish shell. Thinking over his question a bit, she finally answered. "When you're okay, my King. When you are, the Court will become complete." She said and smiled again. This time it was more of a proud grin. This time se wasn't afraid to show that she was happy.

At that, she leaned against him and sighed, more to herself than out loud. She gazed down at the ground and imagined tortoiseshell and ebony pups bouncing about with their unique marking that they might inherit from their parents. Even though they were mere fragments of imagination, she felt her heart swell with pride. Tear wondered if her mate was imagining the same thing. In her mind, this was the perfect life. Finding a mate. Starting a pack. Raising a family. Growing old. That's how se saw the future. She would never change a thing about it

Ramone listened to his mates supply, his small smile revealing his white teeth. She was clever, funny, smart, beautiful, capable, affectionate, everything he wanted. No, needed. Ramone nuzzled her back, nose enveloped in her wonderful fur. Her scent was sweet and sharp tinged with a rustic flavor, not unlike licorice. His own scent was warm and spicy like cilantro and pepper. Their scents mixed in the crisp winter air, as the sun set on the horizon. Shadow bloomed across the land, stretching out long indigo fingers, brushing the world into a cold darkness. The grove of trees shook in the gentle breath of the winter wind. The snow glistened pink and orange as the sun beamed its dying colors, as if in farewell. This was his home. Tear was his home.

Tear was content at that moment. She sighed as she and her partner enjoyed the view as the night took hold and change the beauty. Deep down, she knew they couldn't stay like that. Tear had made a promise to Blaise that they would bring home her pups. It worried her that she might not be able to meet those standards. She felt guilty and slightly ashamed that she and Ramone were slacking off. Though, she didn't want to rush her mate and upset him again. Against her better judgement, she lightly bumped Ramone with her nose and chose her words carefully. "Ramone, it's getting late. We can rest back in the forest and pick up the search tomorrow," she said and stood and shook out a her fur a bit.

Ramone nodded solemnly and stood. Recently his jokester sassy side had been fading. It was sad to see himself maturing, but is was bound to happen sooner or later. He knew that deep inside there was still that bright spice that made him playful Ramone. But it was clouded now, with responsibility, though it was also embraced in...love. "Yes, lets get back to camp." He nuzzled his mate and turned his sharp muzzle eastward, to the center of the Sapling Grove.

One step in front of the other. Each time his heart would swell, a deep confirmation growing inside if his chest. This was where he was meant to be. His apricot eyes glowed brighter, his head higher, tail straighter. He was the gamma of Secluded Sunrise.

Tear smiled kindly after her mate and gathered up her hopes and wishful thoughts in finding the pups. She began to follow after Ramone with a lump in her throat, noticing how he hadn't made a snarky remark as they had done so. It made her frown a little to see what she had fallen in love fade, it didn't affect her care for him though. She thought about all of this as she stepped carefully in the direction of their camp. There were good news and bad news that tey could share with Blaise.
