Failure is Only the Beginning of Something Great

"Sheba's Arse!" Kilpi swore and clawed at the soft bark of a rotting tree. Everything was going wrong. First Illao ran away, she and her father Jelack had looked for her bust sadly lost the trail. Kilpi then caught word that Akiane had left home. Both of her sisters were nowhere to be seen. Angry tears brimmed the young shewolfs hetero green and blue eyes.

She failed.

Tears streamed through her cheek fur as she raked both paws down the trunk, head bent as the wood tore beneath her. While her frame was small, she held quite a bit of power behind her. This might be because of the many long, grueling days of traveling, searching for her fiery red sister. Kilpi has failed her family. They weren't safe, or happy. They were in danger and alone. And it was all her fault. If only she had done something sooner. Perhaps she could've....done.....,something! Anything! Now her family was broken and she was alone, completely alone. Breaking down onto the ground, her tears dried up. All emotion gone, drained from her. She was exhausted. Searching for a suitable place to brood and sleep, Kilpi wandered into a silent patch of forest, and curled up in the roots of a dark oak, it's leaves a beautiful Amber. It was autumn, the leaves the color of Illao. The sky the color of Akiane.

"Some wolves like to be alone."
The hushed whisper of wind snatched fallen rust-stained leaves and pushed them towards the sky, humming blue and cloud streaked. These glided past a pair of dark brown eyes and one green tipped ear. Between the black branches and trembling trunks stood scraggly, unkempt wolf, thin in frame but not small in stature, with matted fur and a face full of worry.
"... Some wolves like to be alone...but I don't know if you are one of those wolves. You look as if you need help, lass, and... and I can help if you want me to." Lacquer paused for only a fraction of a second "But if you are one of those wolves who like to be alone, or if now is a time that solitude is crucial, I will be on my way, if only you give the word."

Kilpi looked up at the whisper of a voice, nearly blending in with the soft hush hush of the wind flowing through the dry trees. Her eyes gazed at the approaching character with large emerald and sapphire pools. Her brows arched up with sadness and worry. Her sisters were missing. The young wolf Kilpi had been taught to be wary of strangers, but she hadn't bet any wolf who wasn't kind and polite. So without any hesitation she confessed all the wrongs of the world. "My sisters ran away from home and it must be my fault! They've been gone for seasons, and, and I can't find them!" The young russet shewolf ran to the scraggly elder wolf and buried her tear stained face in his scratchy matted coat. "I failed." She whispered the words again. Kilpi wasn't a pup anymore but she wasn't grown up either. She was a smaller shewolf with a very long tail that sometimes dragged on the ground. Her ears were also too large for her head and drooped when she became saddened, and right now those ears were flopped all the way in half.

Roanoke

The dusky air, created by mist and dust and the way the light filtered through the trees, was a mirror of the placid peace of Roan's current mood. A little dark, a little unknowable, but not completely unapproachable. He'd been peaceably living in the area around the great, quiet tree for nearly a moon now, and he was very familiar with the few sounds that were regular there. Lifting his head high, leaf-green eyes searching, he knew there was something stirring the quiet. He didn't own this place, not in the least, but he was going to scout it out nonetheless.

What he found was a little unexpected, and he hovered back in the foliage, coat helping him to blend nearly perfectly with its muted browns and greens. A young wolf, and an old one - one visibly upset, the other just curious. Well, it was an interesting scene. He nearly walked away - it wasn't his place to butt in, after all - but the young woman's words reached his ears and he became somewhat interested. Stepping forward confidently but quietly, Roan ducked his head politely in greeting before returning it to its proud carriage. "I do not mean to interrupt, but I couldn't help overhearing that you're missing someone. Perhaps if you describe them, I could help? I have been in this area for a long while now."
