The Lone Elder (Joining thread)

Silver:
Silver yawned, as she stumbled around the forest. Her nose guided her to the border of a pack, Secluded Sunrise. The old silver she-wolf was definitely beyond when most wolves died from rough life or a fight. She was bony, shaggy, and dirty, but the silver of her fur and her size (Maybe a few inches taller then some wolves her age, but she had at least dropped 2 inches over the past few years) spoke of her elegance and beauty, once. Her name was silver, and she was almost 16 years of age. Her ears where ragged, and she had three legs, but she had survived on her own for five years. Granted, she had survived off of things a wolf would never eat otherwise, but still.
Silver howled, croakaly. Her voice was nothing like her granddaughters, who where still young and most likely with families of their own. She smiled, as her howl drifted off. She sighed as the breeze ruffled her silver fur and she revised to try and clean herself. Soon she looked more presentable. Her fur was still unacceptably shaggy and her winter coat was giving way to her summer, which over her years in the valley had gotten thinner. Now she was more comfortable in the summer, she scratched the itchy spots. Soon silver fur coated the ground from relentless scratching. Silver felt far better, however. She waited patiently for the alphess.

Blaise:

On border patrol, Blaise loped along the border that had become so familiar. Border patrol had become one of her more frequent duties. She slowed and rubbed her scent on a nearby tree, reinforcing the evidence that a border was there. Then a hoarse howl sounded not too far ahead. A prospective member was probably awaiting her presence. Blaise continued her lope along the border towards the direction of the howl. A ragged silver elder came into view between the trees.

The alphess approached and called to the elder. "Welcome to the land of Sapling Grove. My name is Blaise. I’m the Alphess of Secluded Sunrise, the pack that claims this place. What is your purpose here?"

Silver:
Silver looked in the direction she thought the voice had come from. Her tall ears perked, but mildly useless. "I was hoping you would accept a ragged old wolf into your ranks." she said, her voice raspy like her howl. She got to her three paws, the stump of a back leg. She smiled, teeth yellowed over the years. More silver fur scratched lose by her scratching falling to the ground around her, mixed in with a amount of gray. Most of her face was gray at this point in her life. Her eyes unseeing, but once a light blue that bother her sons had inherited, and then her beloved granddaughters, and now her great granddaughter and great grandson.

Blaise:

A smile curved Blaise’s lip, ”I would be honored to accept an elder such as yourself into my pack. Your years of experience and gained wisdom is reason enough to accept you.” Turning, Blaise gestured for the elder to follow, ”Come. I’ll guide you to Ashwood Grove where we have dug dens, and where our pups are safely kept. They’ll be excited to hear what tales and legends you may have gathered over the years. You’ll be cared for and brought food from our storage by one of our trainees. If they are indisposed, you can look to me or my beta. Our elders are given the rank of Ancient in honor of their years.”

Blaise began a slow pace that the elder could keep up with, but then she paused remembering something, ”Forgive my forgetfulness, but I believe that I neglected to ask you your name.”

Silver:
Silver smiled, happy she had found a home here. She barely heard Blaise ask for her name, but she heard it. "My name is Silver, three legged wolf, old fart extraordinaire." She said the last part with a laugh. She was a old fart, she had never really been a young wolf for so long... Silver followed her new Alphess, into her brand new home and pups! Silver loved pups as she had only ever had one litter before her mate he gone missing. She smiled, stories.. She had a few funny ones, some more life-lesson, some just plain scary... She pondered which to tell as she walked. She settled on one about a rabbit, a life-lesson story.

Blaise laughed lightly. "I'm sure you're much more than that! Or else I'd be in trouble for accepting you," she spoke jokingly. It felt good to relax a bit and laugh. It was difficult to find times to loosen up when one was leading a pack. Blaise always had to keep up appearances so that her leadership decisions would be taken seriously and trusted. She padded beside Silver slowly, leading the way to the Ashwood Grove. Blaise would make sure this elder was cared for within the pack. How excited the pups would be to have a storyteller!
