Ruko:
Ruko was panting softly as he backed away from the older wolf. Nico pulled himself to his feet with a smile. Ruko smiled back. The fight had been exhilarating, but tough without his power. Still, he'd won! Nico spoke and his words stunned Ruko. He struggled for a response. 'A pack? What about Secluded Sunrise? Sands is... I need to finish my mission...'
Finally, Ruko chuckled, "I'm not sure if I fit in a pack whatever it's name might be. I... ah... already left one behind. You know what I'm going to do. I can't give up now. Not while my traitorous father still breaths. Could you train me? I don't know if Snow will ever show up, but you obviously know as much about fighting as he does. As for Sands, uh, she might want to join. I'm not sure. I've only just met her. I told her to find a den nearby, so she could stay close during my training. She's bound to not be far." Ruko glanced around. Should he howl? Na, that reminded him of an alpha calling a pack meeting. Ruko was no alpha. "We should go find her." His heart beat faster at the thought of seeing Sands again. He turned away moving back the ways he came, trying to pick up on the she-wolf's scent. A distant melody caught his attention. Was that Sands? Following his gut, Ruko redirected his path towards the faint song.

Nico: Nico smiled, mostly to himself. "Well, I'll leave you two to it. I have things to do and places to see. I'll come back later, you guys ought to talk among yourselves." He smiled, and started padding away. His blue eyes glittered and his dark tail swished. Looking behind him, he waited for 'Sands'. He smiled, woofed in greeting, and slipped away. His dark silver coat glittering as he disaperared behind some bushes with a last wave of his tail. He caught a sent on the wind, and stopped to place it. Cocking his head, his ears perked for noise. Then it him, it was Caesar! His other brother, besides Snow. He was still, trying to decide what to do.
Then he heard a roar and he was running. Tail waving and teeth barred to bite the cat that dared attack his brother.

Sahandra:
"You realize you are so far, From the things that matter now, And you only wonder how-"
Sahandra left off her song mid-verse to better concentrate on the digging. The den was nearly big enough, if she pushed the far wall back just a bit more and smoothed it, she figured it would be a perfect size for one smaller-than-average she-wolf, enough room to move around a bit but small enough where it wouldn't feel large and empty. She didn't mind things being big, it was the emptiness that bothered her. Dens empty of wolves where you could see claw-marks of the most recent occupants or when you found abandoned bones and antlers that pups had used as toys always gave her a sad, somewhat spooked and lonely feeling. Empty meant a lack of time, a lack of love, a lack of home. The very idea made her shudder and she determinedly dug her claws into the wall and tugged. The wall hesitated, then suddenly gave way and she stumbled backward and closed her eyes as clods of earth broke away and some shafts of soil particles rained down. When the baby-blue eyes opened again she studied the wall, more had come down than she'd planned on, thus resulting in a larger den than she'd had in mind, but it wasn't big enough to look "empty", and she decided she could live with it - the den would probably be temporary anyhow.
Satisfied with the size she began smoothing down the walls and packing down the earth in the floor and carving out niches here or there to cache odds and ends into should she feel so inclined to squirrel some sort of treasure away down here. She wasn't much of a collector, but it could happen. When she was finally satisfied with her efforts she lightly shook some of the dust out of her ears and started to jump out. The minute the blue eyes glanced up however she found herself mere whiskers from being nose to nose with Ruko! Her bright, innocent eyes opened up wide, but after her initial shock she offered a smile and in the back of her mind wondered just how dirty the job had gotten her.

Ruko:
Ruko cocked his head at Nico’s words. He hadn’t answered whether or not he’d train Ruko. Maybe he just needed time to think. ”Nico, I-” Ruko started, but the older male was already walking away. Ruko turned back to his search for Sands. ’He just needs a little time on his own. In the meantime, I’ll be alone with Sands... ‘ Ruko swallowed back his mixture of nervousness and excitement. What was happening to him? His golden eyes focused on a hole from which dirt was flying out. That must be her. By the time, Ruko reached the den, she’d finished digging. He stuck his head in as she finished smoothing the walls and turned to jump out of the den. Her face was inches from his. Ruko jumped, startled, and hurriedly tried to remove his head from the den. His head hit the ceiling with a thump and dust rained down on Sands. He managed to pull his head back and stumbled couple steps away, his head reeling.
”Sorry!” He exclaimed as he steadied himself and looked at Sands.”I was just… I wanted to… Nico, he…” he spurted out a chain of unfinished sentences in his confusion. He took a deep breath. ”I… um… was just checking up on how you were doing.” Sands’ coat was covered in dirt from head to toe. ”Maybe, I could help you clean up a bit.” Ruko swirled his paw, summoning a dust devil in the air. He tried to control the winds’ speeds so they were slower, but would pick dirt off a coat. He looked at Sands for permission.

Sahandra:
Upon noting their proximity Ruko's pale golden eyes bulged in surprise, hers probably matched at the moment, wide and shocked that he'd come up on her without her noticing, but as she offered a smile to greet her friend Ruko started scrambling back and thumped his head on the ceiling. The impact came with a quick grunt and she gasped, closed her eyes and ducked as earth started raining down on her again. She'd have to do something about that ceiling, maybe she should have waited and gotten botany, she'd heard that lots of roots strengthened the soil and the ceiling could use some reinforcements about now.
Once Ruko had safely pulled his head out she jumped after him, narrow body sailing cleanly through the entrance tunnel. Once she got her footing she whirled around to face Ruko, small sprays of dirt flying with some of the sharper, more sudden movements. "Are you alright? Ruko-" their words were spilling over each other, Ruko was already mid-sentence, something about a Nico, she offered a smile again in apology and launched in again, "Are-?" her mouth was being ridiculously uncooperative and wouldn't form the words fast enough, so Ruko went on. He'd wanted to check up on her, "I'm fine," she assured him the smile going from nervous to understanding. He stepped back and looked her up and down. She felt the heat rise to her face and ears as she remembered she was filthy, oh! Why was she suddenly forgetting so much? What was it about this Valley, or maybe just Ruko that made her so scatter-brained and shy and yet eager? She had absolutely no idea. Ruko offered to help her clean up a little and swirled a paw, creating a small cyclone, then looked over at her, asking for permission to let it loose over her coat. Sahandra smiled in anticipation, curled her claws and braced herself for the wind. "If you want," she watched it inch up closer to her own paws and closed her eyes to protect them from the dust starting to fly.

Ruko:
Ruko’s cheek fur fluffed in a blush as they talked over each other. After they straightened out the confusion, Ruko was eager to prove that he wasn’t a bumbling, clumsy idiot. Sands gave him permission to clean her off with one of his cyclones with three simple words. Ruko’s brow furrowed in concentration as he carefully directed the whirlwind to skim Sands’s fur. He focused on making sure the winds’ speeds were slower, so the dirt collected in them won’t hurt Sands and they wouldn’t knock her away. The cyclone tugged against Ruko’s will as if pushing to go faster. Ruko refused to let it increase its speed, gritting his teeth with the effort. It sucked up the grim covering Sands like a vacuum. Its cone shape was quickly evident as the particles swirled in its winds.
Ruko pushed it over Sands’s form, careful to avoid her face. Even with her paw covering her eyes, a speck of dirt still could possibly find its way into her beautiful, gorgeous, breathtaking, enchanting… Ruko blinked realizing he was getting distracted. The dust devil had began to spin faster in his absent moment. Quickly, he willed it to slow and pulled it away from Sands, his job complete. He dismissed the cyclone and it deposited a pile of filth pulled from Sands’s fur. ”All done!” Ruko smiled at Sands, eager to see her smile back.

Sahandra:
Oooh! It tickled! Sahandra took in a sharp breath of delight as the miniature cyclone carefully climbed over her body. Up her paws and legs, down her back, up her neck, down her back again, across her tail, dusting off her other paws. The small, insistent wind ruffled her coarse fur into peaks and ridiculously arranged tufts of fluff and tickled her skin underneath. It was amazing! It was so exact and direct, not the all-around breeze a wolf might expect, it was directed, focused, and it maintained a constant speed as the funnel picked the sand and dirt from her coat. Gradually the wind began to slow and crawled down her leg one last time and Ruko announced that he'd finished combing most of the dust out. She somewhat gingerly removed her paw from over her eyes and blinked at the bright sunlight, a soft smile gracing her features at Ruko's own crooked grin beaming down at her. "That was incredible!" she gasped, and shuddered with delight at the memory of the ticklish pull of the cyclone. "Thank-you," she shook her self over to get her fur in better order and quickly licked her paw and brushed it over the bridge of her nose, a proper clean-up could wait another few days now, Ruko had done a fine job.
Oh...it was her turn to figure out something to say wasn't it? Umm...oh, hadn't he asked how she was doing? No, he'd said he wanted to check up on her, and she'd already replied to that, plus he could see for himself that he was alright. Her mouth hung open for a moment while she tried to figure out what to say. Why was she suddenly so tongue-tied? Her fluffy cheek fur began to curl away from the heat of her face and rise up in a blush. One or two stutters came out as she tried to form words - what words she wasn't sure, she just needed to break the silence. Say something! Oh please say something! Compliment his finesse with his power! Say something! She wracked her brain for a minute. "Did you find your teacher?" Thank the Power! Hopefully she hadn't been standing there with her mouth gaping for too long.

Ruko:
There it was, the smile. Sands’s smile made Ruko feel as though he could do no wrong, but of course that wasn’t true. There were loads of things to mess up. Still that smile made him melt. ”Was it? I’ve never tried something like that before, so I’m glad it turned out alright.” It suddenly occurred to Ruko that admitting that he’d never done that before might give Sands the feeling that Ruko was reckless and willing to possibly harm Sands for the sake of using his power in a new way. ”I mean, I knew it wouldn’t hurt you or anything, but I’ve just never used cyclones to clean up,” Ruko said, frantic to amend his statement so Sands wouldn’t think less of him.
Silence reasserted itself after Ruko’s words. He fidgeted, unsure of what to say next. Should he talk more about his power? No, that’d seem self-centered. He should say something about Sands. A compliment, perhaps? ’Your smile makes me melt. Your eyes are breathtaking. I can’t get over the beauty of your pelt. I want to make you laugh your amazing laugh. I love everything about you…’ They all seemed like too much, especially that last one… How did Ruko feel about Sands? He liked talking to her. He found her beautiful. He wanted to be with her. Did he have a crush? Before Ruko could answer that question, Sands broke the silence with a question of her own. His teacher... ”Snow? He seems to have disappeared, but I found his brother Nico. Hopefully, Nico will be just as willing to train me and Snow was.”

Sahandra:
"You did very well for a first dusting-off attempt," Sahandra assured her friend, somewhat flustered to realize that he was just as tongue-tied and spacey as she was. Why did all of her conversations with him start like this? And why was he flustered? She was already flustered with her inability to make polite conversation: why did he have to get flustered too? That just made her more flustered! Maybe it was because she was flustered that he was flustered, the same way Ruko being flustered made Sahandra feel flustered. Goodness...she was going to confuse herself with all this being flustered. Fighting for control of herself to try and smooth over the mutually felt awkwardness, Sahandra clamped her rudely gaping jaw and listened to Ruko's answer. His teacher, Snow, hadn't shown up. Sahandra furrowed her brow. How strange! At the Mystic Caves he'd said that Snow would likely be waiting for him, they'd hurried so as to not keep Ruko's mentor waiting, and now he wasn't there? Very strange.
Ruko had found Nico though. Apparently, Nico was Snow's brother and she could only assume that he too knew something about fighting since Ruko suggested Nico might take over his training in Snow's absence. Were they a warrior family then? Had they all trained together? The idea was not terribly foreign to her, often a family's trade was carried on down through the generations; the alpha's kin was always given leadership when the time came, if Snow's birth-pack had been similar then he and Nico would have both been trained to fight. Or maybe they were both good at it, or maybe Ruko was willing to settle because he really, really wanted to be a warrior. Again, she couldn't help but think the role suited him, he was tall and strong and fierce when push came to shove (she'd seen that in the Barrens), but he had a kind, gentle heart. He'd rescued her, saved her, he had a sweet disposition and she couldn't get over how cute his smile was or the friendly glint in those pale, golden eyes that made her heart flutter like a sparrow was locked up inside. He was a born protector, perfectly suited for the role of defending, and he had the tenacity and drive to stick with his plan to train, yes, it suited him.
"I sincerely hope things work out for you kha Saver," the smile came back, full and true and insistent. Hopefully Nico would train him well, hopefully he wouldn't disappear as well, hopefully Ruko would someday find whatever he was looking for. "What are we going to do in the mean-time?" Oh...maybe Ruko wanted to spend some time alone...that had sounded awfully presumptuous. But no, he'd just come to find her specifically to make sure she was alright and talk with her, surely he wasn't just about to walk away, he hadn't yet. So...maybe it wasn't so presumptuous to suggest they would spend the time until his next session together. She wagged her tail hopefully, maybe they could play chase...wasn't she a little to old for that? Mm...nah! It likely wasn't very dignified, but she hadn't played a good game of chase in a long while, maybe Ruko felt more like talking though, or hunting, or maybe taking another walk, somehow it seemed that moving helped them to sort their thoughts and their conversation to be less frazzled. She cocked her head in that cute, curious way she had when she was waiting or watching for something.

Ruko:
Sands seemed concerned that Snow hadn't shown up. Her furrowed brow and disappearance of her smile was evidence of that. Ruko was about to reassure her that he was sure Snow was fine and had found something better to do, when Sands seemed to work out her concern for herself. That dazzling smile reappear and she spoke, hoping for Ruko's success. He smiled back, "Thank you." Sands asked her next question. "We." She'd so casually said it as if it was obvious that she'd be by his side while he awaited Nico's return. Ruko, of course, didn't mind. In fact, he'd preferred that she'd used 'we.' It felt like they were friends... they were friends. Ruko wanted to celebrate the fact that he'd found such an amazing wolf and befriended her. He just wished that they could be... Ruko pushed away the thought. They were friends.
Her head was cocked with curiousity as she waited for his answer. Ruko noted how cute she looked like that. He shrugged his shoulders in response to her question and answered with an equally indecisive comment, "I'm not sure. A walk would be nice, that or a talk. I wouldn't mind a hunt, either. I mean a game would also be fun. What do you wanna do?" His eyes were on her, eager to hear what she'd say. Ruko was truly neutral in this decision. He just wanted to do something, anything, with Sands. From the playful glint in her Mediterranean blue eyes, Ruko guessed she'd pick the game. It'd been forever since Ruko had played and that was something friends did, right?

Sahandra:
The idea of a game of chase had firmly taken root in her mind and now (though walking and a quiet conversation sounded more dignified), she had her heart set on it. Ruko said he was open for a walk, or a chat, or a hunt...or a game! There was no need to tell her twice, Sahandra couldn't think of the last time she'd played and now with the warm sunshine and a light breeze ruffling her fur she felt frisky and in the mood to play, a game it would be! Failing miserably to check the grin climbing up on her face, she subtly leaned forward and her paw shot out and tapped his shoulder. "Tag!" a mischievous grin she hadn't shared since she'd left her home surfaced and she only whispered the tease. Anticipating the light of recognition and anticipation in those handsome golden eyes, a laugh bubbled up and she sprang back, paws tripping back as she walked backward on her hind-legs and forepaws clutched to her chest as her tail waved wildly to compensate, waiting to see if Ruko would begin the chase.

Ruko: Sands didn’t answer immediately. Instead she leaned forward slightly and shifted her stance to lift a paw off the ground. Ruko held his breath as he wondered what she was thinking. What was she about to do? ”Tag!” With a mischievous smile, she hopped backwards, balancing on her hind paws. Ruko sat frozen for a second, slightly stunned. Tag, a game he hadn’t played since he was a little pup… It brought back memories of his puphood with Amora. They were painful, but happy, too. Then his face split into a grin and he laughed. He sprung to his feet and bowed in a playful position, front paws stretched in front of him and tail wagging wildly overhead. He waited for the sudden flurry of movement that would come as Sands bolted away before charging after her. The wind whistled in his ears as he ran. The sun played across the wet ground and the new grass swaying to the breeze. What a perfect day to play tag.

Sahandra:
Ruko hesitated for a moment, seemingly surprised at her suggestion. Hadn't he played tag as a cub? She was about to cal it off and ask when the twinkle of understanding and fun-loving came and he sprang into action, his torso and forepaws hugging the ground and tail waving overhead like a flag as he accepted her challenge. She eyed the long legs for a minute, he'd catch her quick...so she'd better get started running! Like a startled deer she turned, twisted her uprightly-poised body back to its usual horizontal alignment mid-air and sprang away, brush waving wildly behind her and bobbing up and down as she dashed. The sun shone overhead and warmed the earth, a light breeze ruffled her fur and invited the long spring grass to dance and they bowed their slender heads as she bolted past them and down the damp hillside, shooting a grin over her shoulder at Ruko, she flew down the slope and ducked into the sea of green for the chase to begin.

Ruko:
Laughter bubbled through the air as the game commenced. Ruko felt like he couldn’t be happier running down a hill chasing a friend. All was right with the world… except it wasn’t. Ruko was considered a monster by his sister and mother. His father was an evil wolf who deserved justice by Ruko’s paw. Ruko had to hunt him down or never feel peace. Ruko desperately pushed away the dark side of his life. A darkness that’d been engulfing him until he met Sands. Ruko realized Sands was the only truly bright thing in his life, currently. He had to protect that.
Ruko refocused his mind on that game of Tag. Catching Sands became his focus. He was gaining on the smaller she-wolf. After several more paces, Ruko was near enough to catch her if he jumped. With a laugh and a leap, Ruko pounced towards Sands. His nose outstretched to bump into her flank. The moment he felt coarse Sands fur he was ready to yell out a joyful, ”Got you!”

Sahandra:
It had been a long time since she'd had a good run in play or simply for the sake of it. Too long. But now she was doing it, and she could hear Ruko gaining! Giggling and gasping as her heart pounded against her ribs and her lungs fought for air in her mad dash and she tried to duck into the taller grass to hide. She was small enough that if she really tried maybe she could buy a few seconds to catch her breath. No such luck! Ruko was onto her ploy and expertly followed. He sprang and she just knew that he was going to catch her - but that wouldn't stop her from trying to run! ...Yes it would. Ruko's nose bumped her shoulder and then his paws fell across her back and down she went.
"Got you!" Ruko crowed. Sands wriggled from light pin and struggled back to her feet, still gasping and giggling and trying to catch her breath. Goodness, she hadn't laughed in a long time either. It felt good. "But I get to chase you now," she reminded the ashy-gray male. She bowed down and waggled her rump in preparation for the chase. "Start running," she teased, then, without waiting to see if he would or not, sprang!
