( Fierfly @pittypat ) Ruko:The conversation between Ruko and Sands had grown more animated as the two grew more comfortable with each other's presence. But as they neared the destination, Ruko had to pull it to a close. "I think the Meadow's Edge Basin is just up ahead. I'm not sure how Snow would react to me bringing a friend, so we might have to part ways..." Ruko sighed. He definitely hoped this wasn't the last he saw of the pretty she-wolf. Then an idea struck him. "If you have no place to be, perhaps you could settle nearby for a bit so we could talk later," Ruko suggested, hopefully. He waited for her answer before continuing, "Okay, I'll be on my way. See you later." He said the farewell with a hopeful smile. Ruko started down the slope towards the basin. He glanced back at Sands with golden yellow eyes. He hoped they would talk again really soon. Then he turned away to focus his gaze ahead towards where Snow said he would meet him. It'd only been a couple days since they'd set up the meeting, so there was no way Snow could've forgotten, could he? As Ruko kept walking, the white and silver wolf seemed nowhere to be seen. "Snow?" Ruko called, hesitantly. Where was he?

Nico: Nico jumped awake, his blue eyes adjusting to the dim light of the shade. Yawning, he got to his paws as his mind slowly went over what the call had been. Snow? Nico perked up, his dark fur glittering. He was well groomed, his blue-silver eyes searched for the voice. His mind tried to figure out just who the voice was. Walking forwards, he found a ash grey male with elegant markings. He still was trying to remember the voice, it was hard. He had always had a bad memory for who was who without something distinct to remember them by like markings or sounds. The voice had only said "Snow" and that was not enough. "Hello, youngster, you are looking for my brother?" Nico cocked his head, blue eyes trying to discern what he looked like exactly. The male's colors were those he could see so he was happy enough with the male for that. Now to figure out just who it was...

Sahandra:
It had been a pleasant walk and pleasanter still to enjoy the scenery as things changed. Late Winter moved on and Spring threw herself into the world, warm and bright and happy and promising. Fresh new grass tickled her feet and the air was fresh and clear and warm again. This particular destination was especially pretty in the splendor of a new season. It was wetter than the hillsides she'd grown up on, but the grasslands had always been most familiar to her. Grass was soft and green and life-giving, the hills were gentle and protective and serene. Everything she'd known and loved could be found in the hills...almost everything.
Ruko regretfully closed their last topic and announced that they'd made it to their destination and suggested they part ways. She was not insulted; warriors from her home had trained exclusively as well, their teachers did not approve of anyone just standing around and watching...especially family and friends which could be distracting for young recruits. No, she was not insulted, yet she didn't want to leave. Ruko suggested she settle nearby and she looked at the familiar landscape again. "Sure! I'll look around. Call me when you have some time," Ruko grinned and turned to find his teacher, she went off in search of a badger hole to convert into a den; there was bound to be one somewhere hereabouts.

Ruko:
Ruko's thoughts were on Sands and the last words she'd spoken to him. " Call me when you have some time." She was nearby and awaiting his call! The thought filled him with happiness, then confusion over his feelings seemed to send his head wolf. He'd definitely call Sands. Maybe if Snow did turn out to be a little late as Ruko suspected, that call would be sooner rather than later. As a silver wolf emerged from the forest on the north edge of the basin, Ruko shook himself out of his thoughts, metaphorically, and focused his gaze on the newcomer. At first his heart leaped as he thought Snow was approaching to start his training, then it dropped like a stone as Ruko realized that the wolf had dark silver fur, not light. But still, Ruko smiled as he recognized the male.
Yet, it seemed Nico didn't recognize Ruko as he called Ruko, "youngster," and there was no glint of recognition in the older wolf's eyes... his eyes! Hadn't Nico been blind? "Nico!" Ruko greeted, "What happened to your eyes? Did White Magic heal them or something?" Then Ruko realized that Nico still might not recognize him. "It's me, Ruko. You're the one who sent me to Snow in the first place. Speaking of who, he said he would meet me here three days ago. He should be somewhere around here. Have you seen him?"

Nico: Nico looked at Ruko, his blue eyes shining. "Ruko! Nice to see you again my friend." He examined the young male, walking a bit closer. He would have to get a good look at him later though. "Yha, I went to White Magic and by some wonder found my way to the right cave. She fixed my eyes, and it was really painful, but I can see." He smiled, blue-silver eyes sparkling. Then he mentioned Snow. Nico's face fell. "I was hoping you had seen him. I don't know if anyone' seen him recently, you must have been the last one. " He coked his head, tail limp. If Ruko hadn't seen Snow, then Snow didn't want to be found. "When you called his name I hoped you had just seen him." The fact Ruko did not know were Snow was, then Nico's fear had been confirmed. Snow was missing. "Well, until he gets here, would you like to train with me? I need to sharpen my fighting and you need to sharpen yours." Then, without warning, he lunged at Ruko.

Sahandra:
Aha! Badger's old den. Or...she hoped it was old. A careful brown nose searched the entrance for a moment before she was satisfied. Yes, it was abandoned, probably hadn't been used in a long while, the scent of the short little creature that had dug it was so faint that she was sure the next good rain would erase it completely. Her lips moved into a slight pout at the thought, how much things changed, how quickly things ended, how easily things were forgotten. Poor badger had made its home here, and would soon be forgotten. "Thank-you Badger for having been here to make this den so I could be here," some innate respect for the grand world and endless sky encouraged her to give silent thanks at moments like this, and quite frankly she enjoyed it.
After firmly fixing her rear paws on one edge of the entrance she lowered her slender forward frame into the hole and started digging. She was not what you might call a born digger, but she was willing, and that was about as good as being good at it, or...it made it easier for her to enjoy it, the task was no less shoddy and temporary when she finished, but at least it made the work easier. So with her typical willing attitude she launched in.

Ruko:
No news of Snow. ”He should be here soon, then, unless something happened. Snow doesn’t seem like a wolf who’d break a promise.” Then Nico suggested training together until Snow arrived. ”Sure, I don’t see-” Ruko began then Nico lunged at him. He yelped in surprise, took a couple steps back, and instinctively flung up a cyclone between him and Nico. The now level 2 whirlwind had enough power to throw Nico off his path if Nico ran into it. Had the wolf gone mad? Had he turned evil? Why was he attacking? Then Ruko realized, ’Training, right. Taking me by surprise shows how I act under pressure. Smart move, Nico.’
Ruko grinned. ”Don’t think you’ll get me that easily.” Ruko said as he sent the cyclone spinning towards Nico. The spiralling winds began picking up rocks and clumps of dirt as it moved. Ruko noticed how the object picked up where larger than what his cyclones could usually pick up.

Nico: Nico yelped as the cyclone threw him off his path, sending him sprawling. Shaking off, he looked back at Ruko, the blurry movements of the cyclone picking up rocks went unnoticed, as it was blurry and hard to see. His hearing picked it up, the swirling of wind. He tried to dodge, his blue eyes watching the blurry Ruko and he said, "Small rule, no powers. Tooth and claw, you need to work on that." Then he fainted and lunged again, teeth ready to bury themselves in Ruko's scruff. He smiled to himself, thinking of how fun this was, to train.

Sahandra:
Scrape, fling, scrape, fling, scrape fling, slip - whoops! Rear paws scrambled back in a brief moment of panic as she began to slip farther than she was comfortable into the den she was deepening. The soil was wetter here than it had been at her old home. Much wetter, she'd have to be careful with her footing. She re-anchored herself and started again: scrape, fling, scrape, fling, scrap, fling...yelp? Her head came up out of the hole again. Was that a yelp? It sounded like Ruko though she'd never heard him sound alarmed or afraid - the voice was close. Had something happened? What if his teacher hadn't showed up? Suppose some other wolf was denning around here and didn't like trespassers? What would they have done to Ruko?
Then she remembered; training. Ruko was training to be a warrior. What a silly she'd been just there! She could have cuffed herself - twice. Firstly for worrying - Ruko was a warrior and could certainly handle himself and if he did need help (if she could give any) he knew to call her. Secondly because she had forgotten: warriors trained in fighting, fighting came with some alarming vocalizations and with surprises to see how well the recruits could react to surprise situations. She knew that! "Get a grip Sahandra," she ordered herself, "You shan't interfere with his training. If he needs me he'll call, end of story." Oh dear...when had that habit started? Talking to herself now? Oh well, she'd just try not to do that when Ruko was around. Re-aligning her will she went back to her chore of digging.

Ruko:
"Aw, come on!" he protested against the new rule with a good-natured half smile. He'd always used his power with he was battling. It'd feel weird to suddenly be forbidden from using it. Still, Nico was right. Since Ruko was so dependent on it, he'd be vulnerable if there was ever a situation where he didn't have access to it. Ruko still shuddered to think of himself in any place dangerous without his power. That's why he needed this training. He didn't have much knowledge about how to fight an opponent.
As Nico moved towards Ruko's right side, the young wolf shifted to meet the attack. Nico suddenly switched direction as he pulled out of the faint and lunged towards the left. Ruko reacted too slowly as Nico teeth gripped his black scruff. Wincing Ruko kicked out against the older wolf, attempting to free himself from Nico's grasp. A white paw swung up in an effort to swat the side of Nico's face. As he struggled against Nico, a stray, distracted piece of Ruko's mind wondered how Sandy was doing. He hoped she'd found someplace comfortable like a den to stay in while he trained with Nico.

Nico: Nico smiled, as his teeth gripped Ruko's scruff. Then the paw came at his face and a yelp sent him back to the ground. Shaking his head, blood came flying off a shallow claw mark in his cheek. That had not been fun, that had been scary when the paw went to his face. A grey paw much like Veronica's. The dark silver male left himself open to attack as he tried to get over the adrenaline rush that had torn through him out of fear of those claws getting too close to his eyes. Nico glared a Ruko, now that he was over the rush he wanted Ruko to know that he should attack. "I'm open, you should take advantage Ruko!"

Sahandra:
Scrape, fling, scrape, fling, another slip - this one intentional. She wiggled her narrow body down into her newly claimed space and took a look around. It needed widening and a little more deepening - her crouch was slight but as it was her crouched back was also arched to keep her nose from hitting the nearest wall as her tail brushed the one opposite. Thank goodness for moving and all those opportunities to see what was a good den and what wasn't, she made another mental Grateful Note and turned until looking up at the entrance again and jumped back out. If she was careful she could suspend herself half-in and half-out and work the too-small walls away that way - then she wouldn't have to work in such a cramped space.
Once she found her balance and a convenient wall to gouge away at she wondered again at the grand scheme of things and how much time had passed in this little hole in the ground. Some poor lonely badger had lived here once upon a time - she half wondered what had happened to it: killed? Eaten? Dead of old age? She hoped it was the last, old age gave it time to do what it wanted and make a difference in its own way. Ruko suddenly entered her mind and she startled to realize that Ruko's markings were not unlike a badger. She couldn't help but smile - it was cute and funny somehow. Badgers were symbols of bravery and Ruko kha Saver was brave was he not? He'd protected her, just like this den would from the weather. "I like badgers," she decided right then. Talking to herself again? Oh well. Instead she began a gentle tuneless hum as she worked until a melody came to mind and her voice instead began to rise and fall with that.

Ruko:
Ruko stumbled as he recovered his footing after Nico’s attack. Ruko’s attack had been surprisingly successful as Nico had both released him and seemed a bit dazed. As Nico began to recover, Ruko wondered whether he should attack now or give Nico a little bit more time for recovery. He didn’t want to hurt the other wolf after all. But Nico prompted him to take advantage of the situation. Ruko’s paws pounded against the ground as he charged forward hoping to bowl the other wolf over. Maybe since Nico was still recovering, the attack would be successful. Perhaps a leap would help? Air whistled in his ears as Ruko leaped near the end of his charge, catapulting himself towards Nico.
Again, that distracted part of his mind interrupted his thoughts focused on the fight. ’I wonder if she’s thought about me at all… She’s probably just focused on finding a den, like I should be focusing on this practice fight!’

Nico: Nico found himself on the ground, with Ruko on top of him. Nico smiled, and said "You win, kid." He smiled and shoved himself up, a shallow gash in his side from a sharp rock. "So, Ruko? Would you consider joining a pack? I'm forming one, called the Outcasts. You would be a good fit." Nico smiled, licking his shoulder wound clean. Then he said, "Call her over. Don't think I didn't smell that you had been with a female very recently, so call her over. Maybe you would both like to join." Nico said, now that he was satisfied with the cleaning of his shoulder. He was keen on getting members, so he just had to wait. Nico watched Ruko, getting a sense for the young male. He had golden eyes, and ashy grey fur. Ruko was handsome, more handsome then Nico had imagined him. He smiled to himself, thinking of how truly lucky he was to see his friend again. To see him at all.

Sahandra:
The melody started to rise and fall with her work and form a tune and story in her mind. Music was like a river, it flowed, it fell, it curved. So much to music, there was so much it could tell. And Life was full of music. The crickets singing on warm, summer nights, brooks humming, the breeze whispering through grasses, and howls. A wolf's howl, a very different song, but it told its own story, the story of its soul.
She threw a little more energy into her work, paws scraping quickly and furiously, shooting the rich, dark earth back from its -. Her eyes quickly shut as a clump of soil she'd been loosening hit her in the face. It was not a big clump and it did not hurt, but it was enough to startle her into losing her concentration and sending her tumbling into the small space again. Lovely. She had to laugh at herself though. She was an awful den digger wasn't she? Oh well, life wasn't meant to be easy, she could struggle in digging now and then. She half-wondered how apt Ruko was at digging a den if he'd traveled for most of his life. Did he dig or was he a caves or fallen trees sort of wolf? Or did he prefer to sleep under the stars?
She cautiously raised a paw to wipe away the clump of dirt from her face and smudge the heavier stuff deeper into her fur. Okay, to-do list: 1. Finish den. 2. Look for a water source - she was getting to need a bath. But the den would be finished first. Given her record she was sure she'd end up falling back in soon anyway and decided to just keep working where she was, she could make the space work for digging. She went back to her chore and again thought of Ruko. "I wonder how his training is going? What sort of teacher his trainer is? I hope he's okay." the lonely light that she'd noticed creeping into his golden eyes from time to time was sort of sad. He seemed so nice, yet didn't seem to have many friends. "Well then, I'll be a friend for him," was her firm decision and she again threw herself into her work and into her melody.
