Fjord stood on the top of a hill. Not just any hill...the highest hill in the Barren Wastes. He was staring off into the distance, towards the Outer Reaches. He wasn't up high enough to see the territory, but he could imagine it. Right now it must be empty and forsaken. But when he and his pack reached it, it would flourish and thrive. Of course it was still the barrens....but Alpha Fjord had that solved as well. A certain young botanist would be in exceptionally close conditions. She would make his territory green, and alive. However, daydreaming wasn't the reason why he stood upon this outermost hill. No, he was waiting. He had entreated Alphess Skia to join him upon this hill, she would come shortly.

Fjord had called her for a strange reason. Fjord had been experiencing something odd ever since he had won his battle with the shewolf. Dare say, he had been....feeling. Emotion was an old thing, something he hadn't had in his life for a very long time. It wasn't the kind of emotion that made you weak and sentimental; it was the passion and desire that lit a flame in his frozen heart. He had called Skia to his side to realize her rank as Alphess. To hopefully become his mate. Fjord had never jnagined himself loving a wolf. This was no pure innocent love though, this was a dark and pounding love that seemed to tear at his chest like a caged beast. There were no butterflies and meadows. Their relationship was that of militaristic respect and desire. Perhaps one day Fjord would learn love love with tender intensity. But as of now....no such notion was present in his clever mind.

Skia:

Alphess Skia trotted up the hill, eagerly. Her king had requested a meeting with her on the highest hill. What he might want to speak with her about, Skia had no idea. But, Fjord seemed like a wolf who was always planning things. Whatever it was, she was sure it was important and she was anxious to please the alpha. Fjord had won her respect like no other wolf had. He’d shown his strength. He was a killer and leader. No wolf could rival Fjord and if they tried, they’d have to get through Skia first. Skia couldn’t imagine a better wolf to call her equal. Secretly, she might even consider him her superior, an evil wolf’s hero.

Skia crested the hill and her chocolate eyes immediately found Fjord. She padded up beside the large male. Her gaze combed across his form before focusing in on his hard face. Skia was a large female, but Fjord still overshadowed her. ”Fjord,” her voice was filled with adoration when she said his name, ”What’s on your mind, my king?” The title was another sign of Skia’s admiration of her fellow alpha. She followed his gaze to look out over the barrens. It felt abandoned as though all the beauty had fled out of the land. What a rotten place to call home, still the barrens were their kingdom and Skia dared not insult Fjord’s chosen location.

Fjord didn't break his gaze with the horizon as Skia arrived next to him, her paws crunching against the brittle grasses that struggled to sprout. He didn't really know how to go about this, but he knew he couldn't show any form of weakness. "Skia," His voice was smooth and rigid, yet breathy; reminiscent of an icy wind blowing across a glacial plain. "I require something of you." He stepped closer, crimson eyes burning intensely into Skia's earthy ones. "I have been planning to move territories for moons now. However, once our pack has settled in the Outer Reaches we must begin to fill out our ranks, for I'm sure our proximity to a certain pack will not be welcomed." He padded slowly around to her side, flicking his tail over her nose. "Would you do me the honors of expanding this pack...with me?" His voice was soft, a silver tongued hiss lilting with a heavy hint. The large white Male finished his circle around her before nudging her cheek with his head rather harshly. If this was love, it was certainly a rough love.

Skia:

His voice, smooth, soft, deadly, spoke as he turned to meet her gaze. "Anything," the one word told of her devotion to the alpha. She would do anything. Kill anyone. He spoke of moving territories, though Skia had yet to see what special task was required of her beyond helping move as any fellow alpha would. Filling out ranks, yes that was very important. They'd have to make sure to recruit all worthy, evil wolves in the area. Perhaps they could even encourage members to have litters. Fjord hinted at the possibility that tension would arise between them and their new neighbors. What pack wouldn't feel threatened when such a powerful, aggressive pack moved closer?

The alpha began moving as he spoke his next words. Carefully steps circled her. Skia puffed out a soft snort as his tail brushed over her nose. The she-wolf turned her head to follow Fjord's movements with dark eyes. Her thoughts hung on his every word. He wanted... Skia allowed herself a smile. She'd never considered taking a mate. Love was not something Skia experienced. It was something she used to tear apart others emotionally. But with Fjord, things were different. They already shared much and Skia didn't mind. With any wolf, she would've. She would've already taken his life and assumed complete control over the pack. Fjord deserved this leadership, though, and Skia was content to stand beside him. And pups? Skia had scarcely considered having a mate, let alone pups. They'd be annoying for sure, but certainly something evil would come from them eventually, right. And the thought of having them with Fjord filled Skia with a joy she'd never experienced before.

His head pushed into her cheek, but Skia pushed back, refusing to allow herself to be moved. Taking a deep, excited breath in, she turned her head so her nose brushed his ear. "I'd be honored." Honored? Definitely, more than that even, overjoyed! She had found the mightiest wolf in the valley and he'd chosen her to be his equal and the she-wolf to carry on his, no their legacy. The valley would never forget their names! Fjord and Skia, the greatest scourge this valley had ever seen!

The deed was done, things were beginning to form before his very eyes. A family of sorts, a stronger pack, a fresh territory. His life choices and innate ambition were paying off as the seasons progressed. Removing himself from the hill, Fjord turned his attention away from Skia. He knew she only saw him as a powerful wolf, no love was seen in her eyes. And he could not have her see the emotion inn his. Weakness was not tolerated. With a roll of his great, white shoulders, he spoke. "Your duty to the pack and me is appreciated." He spoke, quietly, but with much authority. Fjord then excused himself, a meeting must be held. A pack must be informed. Things were moving, there was no time for relaxation.

Skia:

Skia's speeding heartbeat slowed as Fjord began to depart. She took a deep breath, gathering her wits, as she watched him depart. A slight smile graced her lip as she stretched. Her paws reached out before her and her back arched. Fjord paused in his path. His head turned slightly so his quiet words would reach Skia. "Trust me, the pleasure was all mine." Skia replied with a mischievous smile. One that Fjord didn't see. He left. He must have other business to attend to. Business... that was what all this interaction had been, hadn't it? Fjord had simply checked this conversation of his list and moved on. Skia regarded that fact with some amount of bitterness. Fjord hadn't displayed any emotions following their union, but Skia's emotions raged like a wildfire inside her. They were all so potent and they compelled Skia to charge after her new mate to demand whether he felt the same. Skia held herself back though. Fjord obviously felt no such feelings, so why ask?

Skia examined her emotions, wondering if one of them was love. It couldn't be possible, could it? All that Skia felt was so fierce. Surely no Good wolf would surrender to any of these aggressively powerful emotions that Skia now felt. She felt like she would protect Fjord with every ounce of strength in her. That feeling wasn't exactly new, but it was stronger now, as if not only would she kill anyone for her fellow alpha, she'd die for him. Was she truly willing to die for Fjord? Sacrifice herself so that he could continue to live? Skia imagined herself and Fjord in a fight with a powered wolf. Flame level 3, of course. Who else could even come close to killing Fjord? In her mental battle, the wolf expelled a large burst of flame that would encase Fjord and kill him. Skia stood close enough to push Fjord out of harm's way and take the blast, herself. With some surprise, Skia realized she would do it. Emotionally, it felt like the correct choice. Logically, Fjord would continue to do more evil in the world, maybe even more than Skia could do. Skia also felt an urge to be with Fjord, just at his side at all times. Then there was the admiration that Skia felt for him. As far as Skia was concerned, Fjord was the strongest wolf in the valley. She wasn't sure if anything could change that. Maybe if he'd turned Good or lost his Power, she'd loose respect for him, but otherwise, he could do no wrong in her eyes. He'd proven his strength to her and continued to do so in every action he took. One slightly weaker decision wouldn't change that.

Was any of this love? Or did it all combine to be love? Skia couldn't say. She'd never known love, until now, until Fjord. Maybe she loved him... Was that a bad thing, though? Good wolves always seemed to be intoxicated by their love. Skia wasn't sure she wanted to share the feeling, but what she now felt had to be stronger than anything those Good wolves felt. Skia didn't love the same way Good wolves did. There was none of that tender, gentle, kind, lovey dovey nonsense in it. Her love was fiercer. Her love was rare. Her love would kill. It made her stronger in new ways. Skia's chocolate eyes flicked up to focus on the distant white form of Fjord and she decided she did love him. As soon as Skia accepted the realization, her heart began to sink as she realized he'd never feel the same. No matter. She could love Fjord even if he never loved her back. She'd stay by his side, she'd lead with him, she'd have his pups, and she'd do anything for him, even die. Her emotions identified and her purpose clear, Skia began to trot after Fjord to return to his side where she belonged.
