Enchanting rays of light fell through the leaves above. Rhea's eyes were wide as she took in the overwhelming scenery around her. These trees were taller than any she had ever seen before. They towered over her, threatening to fall down at any given moment. Bird songs echoed around her. Rhea ducked low, as though her strikingly brilliant surroundings were weighing her down. Her old home was a large flat grassland, barren and empty. There was occasionally a short tree growing defiantly in the forbidding plains, but never like these fearsome giants. Rhea happily danced around, chasing leaves and kicking up dust. She forgot she had a purpose for being here. She forgot about everything else going on in her life.

Bane:
Darkness filled the small little hallow that the dark gray male was curled up in. Darkness that the bright golden eyes shot through with perfect vision. Darkness that melted around his large form like a protective blanket.
Bane was enjoying his new power of shadow mastery. He breathed in the darkness around him as he lay tucked under the dugout twisted roots of one of the many giant trees. The night was his time to be alive, for he could see clearly through the darkest midnight, and sleep never slowed him down. How wicked it felt to never have to sleep, but also strange to have to get used to. The night had been productive, but now the morning was upon the forest, and the blasted sun was stealing his dark comfort, the only shadows he had to lurk in were the ones beneath the humongous redwoods.
Dropping his head on his outstretched forepaws, Bane glared at the shadow of roots that loomed over him, and mantaly touched the edge of darkness. His power mark glowed faintly red as shadowy fingers reached from the darkness and slithered creepily like stalks of black seaweed. With a little more stretch, Bane maneuvered the shadowy fingers into a finial whiplash of black weeds before cutting his concentration and letting the shadows disappear. A grumbling sigh left his clenched maw and his ears and expression flattened with boredom. Daylight was one thing he despised, but the mornings even more. By noontime, he would permit himself to walk among the forests, just because evening would approach shortly after, but mornings were off limits.
Too cheery, too bright. Bane tried to close his eyes to rest his mental effort, but that failed to entertain him one bit. Or was it the faint rustling and scuffing in the distance that distracted his focus of rest. Narrowing his eyes, the hidden male lifted his head, and toned his senses to whatever it was that was disturbing his boring peace. He stood and his large brute form slunk out of the shadows as he took in a deep inhale of what seemed to be the scent of a female nearby. Bane silently stepped around the wide trunks, looking for the culprit, and generously excepting the idea of searching out in the light for this stranger, rather than dying of boredom under the roots of a tree.
Did he hear giggling too, or was it just his annoyed ears playing tricks on him. Just as her scent was getting stronger, Bane decided the manipulate his own shadow over his thick form. Like a snake shedding its skin in reverse, Bane's own shadow slowly crept up his paws and masked his entire form in darkness, only his red mark and golden eyes showed through. Why not scare the blasted female just to make it more fun.
Finally spotting the small orange furred she-wolf, Bane come in full view, and grumbled out in a low restrained threatening voice, "Who are you?"

Rhea: Childishly, Rhea pranced through the forest giggling and hopping over the thick roots of the trees. The morning light was beautiful and pleasant. It wrapped its arms around her, giving her warmth. It was not difficult to make Rhea happy. Nearly anything filled her with joy, but it was mornings especially that gave her happiness. They were cheery and bright and brought hope for another day.
Though Rhea was pleased with her stunning surroundings, she also found herself to be rather lonely. She wished she had some company. Someone to laugh with her. Someone else to show her around the valley. Although it seemed a bit selfish, Rhea also wanted more attention for herself. It had been a long time since she had been showered with affection by her parents. She had always been oblivious to the fact that her parents favored her over her siblings, but now that she was on her own, she could see it. It was no wonder that her brothers and sisters loved the idea of her leaving. Not only had they supported the plan, they had encouraged it. Rhea realized how disappointing it seemed, now. She had thought they really cared about her and wanted the best for her.
Suddenly, there was a sound behind Rhea. Another wolf? Yes, some company. She put on a grin and swiveled around, ready to make a friend. To her horror, standing before her, was not a wolf but a monstrous ghost staring at her. It was a tall dark shadow over her, ready to eat her. Rhea was struck with fear. She let out a pathetic, hapless whimper. She turned back to run, but something stopped her in her track, something causing her to stay, something like curiosity. "Who are you?" the ghost had asked. Rhea forced herself to stay put. She sat up triumphantly, attempting to look bigger than she was. Though the strange monster was not extraordinarily large, any wolf looked huge standing next to Rhea. "My name is Rhea," she managed to spit out. The nightmare, after looking at it for a while, was more like a wolf than a phantom. It was a wolf merely hidden by a shadow. An unnatural shadow. This wolf had some sort of power. Rhea had heard myths of magical beings and healing powers, but she had never thought they were true. "Who-what are you?"

Bane:
The orange and maroon eyed little female pranced around happily, her pelt almost as russet colored as the trees that towered over them. How pathetic.
Bane continued to stand concealed in his shadow until the she-wolf noticed him, and her slick thin form whipped around to face him. Terror petrified her cute little face and her scared whelp rang in his ears. A satisfied grin appeared under his shadowed muzzle, and white fangs barely showed through. He heard her stuttered name and question, and a smug expression lingered on his face. Good, she thought he was a monster.
"Rhea?" His voice rumbled, almost abnormally deepened to sound dark and malicious. "What a nice name..." Sarcasm was evident in his tone as his large shadowy figure neared her a step at a time. Bane stopped three paces before her and his glowing golden eyes inspected her small petite form and her starngly patterned coat. What the daylight, were those butterflies? Disgust twisted his face and he almost spat, but righted himself and towered his dark giant figure over her. "I am the Wolfbane, shadow of the forests. Why have you come and disturbed me?" Bane flinched inwardly at his impromptu introduction and hoped it didn't sound to cheesy. He was having a fun time messing with this runt.

Rhea: He had a sinister tone of voice. This odd wolf clearly was trying to scare her. This was not right. Rhea had heard of other wolves coming to this valley in search of a new life. She had heard of mystical beings white as snow who could heal anyone who asked. She had heard of tight knit packs that cared for each other. Was this how all outsiders were treated? Rhea also remembered hearing of evil forces who opposed the good hearted. Was this wolf one of these?
The Wolfbane had asked why she had disturbed him. Rhea hadn't smelled the scent of other wolves. If this was not a phantom, but merely a wolf, wouldn't he have marked his territory? Rhea calmed down a bit. What could this wolf do to her? A terrible thought came to Rhea. He could have powers beyond anything she could ever fathom. He was still rude, though, and Rhea was still overly confident, so she foolishly ignored her fears. "I disturbed you? You disturbed me! Perhaps you should have marked your territory. I almost thought you were a ghost, but you're just a wolf like me," Rhea snapped her mouth shut. She had said too much. Don't kill me. Don't kill me. Don't kill me. This was certainly an unfamiliar feeling. Everyone had always loved Rhea, and if anyone was ever rude to her, Rhea's father would come and shut them up. I deserve more respect than this.

(Edit: Ninga'ed!) Kawehi: Kawehi yawned, his long white fangs exposed. Then he rolled over and found a patch of sun over his face. Groaning, he staggered up. His brown fur mussed and dirty. His icy white eyes, lacking in the pigment that gave color to a wolf's eyes, glinted in the sun as he stretched. Then he groomed his fur, clearing the dirt and smoothing the mussed patches. Soon he looked presentable, and he started walking. He felt drawn to the mountain, but first he had to get there. He was from the other side of the valley, outside the walls that protected this paradise from the wars, plagues, and humans of the outside.
Kawehi flicked an ear, hearing voices. They were dead ahead, and he was very lonely with no one to talk to. The sound of another voice would be wonderful. Speeding up to a lope, he was excited at what he saw. Two wolves! He skidded to a stop just out of sight range. He steeled himself, put on his best smile, and walked in. His tail was wagging and his smile a little forced, but otherwise he looked like a passerby. "Hello! I'm Kawehi." His smile faltered one the dark male said his name. His tail tucked between his legs, and he felt himself shrink down. "He... Umm... Hi?" he tried for a smile again. This time it was more then forced, it was a scared smile. The kind that a nervous convict may have before being told his sentence. Trying to stay positive, but failing miserably.
Looking over at the female, he found himself mesmerized by her coat. Orange, and covered in butterflies. Monarch butterflies... He shook his head, and looked back at the male, finding himself crouched on the forest floor. He was scared, his puppy instincts telling him to run away.

Bane:
Bane froze in mid step forward when the small she-wolf abruptly replied. The runt was brave, she obviously didn't go scampering away but held her ground. She even had the gut to talk back. Grumbling inwardly, the large male had the slightest hesitation before he continued his closer step forward. Could she see through his shadows, was he not strong enough to work his power like that? With a flick of his tail, Bane decided to keep his cool and run with it. He moved closer until their noses were two paws from touching. "I mark my territory with shadows Rhea." What a pathetic lie, but Bane hoped his next move would be more affective.
Like black water, the shadows around him melted off and swirled like vapor to the ground, collecting in a circle of darkness at his paws. Bane couldn't hold the mental thought any longer, and the darkness slowly morfed back into his own shadow below him. A deep sigh expressed his effort, and he blinked his eyes, nodding his head ever so slitly as to present his true form of darkness. Red power mark slowly fading, and golden gaze looking straight into hers. "Do you see my shadows Rhea, because it seems you only see me." A low growl rumbled in his throat and his eyes lost connection with the she-wolf and focused on a young brown and white male that suddenly spoke out. Great, another blasted runt. His scent traveled to Bane and the gray brute was relieved to find the teen's scent nowhere near the she-wolf's. Good, they weren't related or together in any way. Bane hated wolf packs, or any member of one.
"Kawehi." Bane flattened his ears in annoyance, and tuned his attention back to Rhea, but spoke to both wolves. "My real me is just Bane.

Rhea: She glanced from the Wolfbane to Kawehi. It was a relief to know that not all wolves in the valley were creepy shadow monsters. Rhea inched closer to Kawehi and farther away from the phantom. Shadows began to creep closer to her, from the trees, the roots, and the rocks. They swirled and danced around the Wolfbane, gathering beneath him. They revealed true darkness. This wolf was pure evil. Do you see my shadows, Rhea, because it seems you only see me. What could that mean? Rhea was still not sure what this creature was, but whether a wolf or a monster, the Wolfbane had been hiding his true form. He peered at Kawehi in annoyance. My real name is just Bane. "Bane," Rhea repeated softly, "What are you and why do you feel the need to harass me-er-us?" Having Kawehi by her side, though she did not know him, was comforting. He was clearly stronger than her and he seemed to have similar feelings toward Bane. If Bane attacked either of them, the other one would help. Rhea could just see it in his eyes.

Kawehi: Kawehi wanted to run.
He knew he had to help Monarch (As he had revised to call her). He just wasn't happy about it. His eyes were flitting around. Puppyish urges to run were mainstream in his brain. This wolf was older, stronger, and Kawehi was a yearling. His ears pressed back, his eyes were wide as plates. A whimper worked it's way out. "Um.. We'll.. We'll just be.. on our way..." His voice cracked, and his trembling was making it hard to talk. He started backing up. "Well Monarch, should we leave Bane alone and be on out way? He seems to want to be left alone." He glanced at Bane, his ears one with his head at this point.
Fear was gripping the young male, and why should it not? He was facing a large, older male who seemed like he would like to hurt both him and Monarch. (He would have to ask her name later) Kawehi sent a look at the orange she-wolf. "Come on! He dose not want us here and I would like to keep my pelt unscarred." Then he looked back at Bane, not knowing you should never take your eyes off your opponent in battle, or pre-battle.

Bane:
Both young wolves showed obvious fear of his presence, and there timidity clouded their eyes. For a sheer moment of time, Bane felt the satisfaction of instilling terror into the heart of another wolf, and raining superior as a leader over other beings. But again, it was only a moment, because without intention, a dull feeling of loneliness gnawed at the cold heart of the dark gray wolf as the younger male mentioned leaving with Rhea. How many nights had Bane spent wandering the forests alone, how many days had he spent lying in the darkness alone. As much as he hated the annoyance of being around other wolves, Bane desired to have some sort of a companion, and he saw something in this red furred runt. "What are you and why do you feel the need to harass me-er-us?" An unknown side of his hidden emotions admired her courage and bravery to stand up against him, and his emotions strangely latched onto the idea of someone that might actually be able to see past his terrifying habit to hide himself in his own mask of shadows.
Bane wrinkled his nose in a soundless snarl, and a flash of his teeth, for a split second, showed the discontent he was dealing with. Why were his feelings so soft and petty towards this sassy she-wolf , and why did she have to be so attractive. The large male watched the young pup slowly back away towards the other called Kawehi, and Bane chucked away the thoughts he had been painfully processing. If this next attempt didn't succeed, than he would at least have fun scaring the two blasted runts away.... Well, chasing Rhea away, this Kawehi was a wimp, and Bane felt the pup needed a good mental scarring before he left.
A soft chuckle sounded within Bane's chest and rippled out in a deep vibrating as it grew louder. He blinked his black rimmed eyes and then locked them with the young male's icy white orbs in a death glare. "Leaving so soon? Rhea was just getting to know me?" The voice that came from his throat didn't at all sound like a pleasant tone, but a disturbing note that would make skin crawl with discomfort. For a moment longer, Bane held Kawehi in his golden gaze before breaking it, and tilting his head over at the small red she-wolf. "Rhea, I am simply a lone wolf such as yourself, and I am not harassing you, but seeking your company on an odd way." His intimidating eyes dilated in focus as his next words purred with enticing flattery, "My, oh my, how your coat is such a unique pattern." As he spoke, Bane mentally grasped the energy of his power and collected several small shadows of leaves and molded them into miniature black butterflies. The gray male smirked as the shadow insects batted their small wings and flew in cute little circles around Rhea, one landing on her nose.
Bane focused one of the shadow butterflies away from Rhea and towards Kawehi. It sped up, and drilled straight into the white bellied runt's face, breaking the power and disappearing in a wisp. Looking past the small she-wolf that stood in front of him, Bane shot Kawehi another death glare.

Monarch. Why Monarch? That was something she had never been called before. Rhea looked down at the pattern on her coat. Oh, the butterflies. Though the nickname intrigued her, she actually kind of liked it in a weird way. It made her seem regal and important. She and Kawehi were going to get along nicely, Rhea could tell. She smiled at him briefly, then snapped back to reality. While Kawehi was clearly trying to get them both away from Bane as quickly as possible, Rhea wanted to stick around a little while longer. She was curious to see what Bane would do next. Rhea looked up at him. That's right. I'm not afraid of you. What's your next move?
Rhea was expecting an insult or an attack, but certainly not a complement. If this was Bane's way of trying to gain her trust, it was not working. The shadows that fluttered around her seemed innocent but they had a creepy, twisted, unnatural essence. They felt evil. They looked evil. Rhea stared at Bane without thinking twice about what she was about to say. "Hmm...let's see, partner with a shadowy untrustworthy phantom monster, or leave with Kawehi. Which one do you think I'm going to choose?" It came out much sassier than Rhea had expected. She was not entirely sure where all this sudden courage came from but it might have had to do with having Kawehi by her side.

Kawehi: Kawehi backed up, now feeling threatened. He growled defensively at the death glare, going back to lessons learned from his family. If you wanted someone to back off, growl. Kawehi being a large wolf for his age, it scared most off from what he wanted. Teeth raised in a snarl, his icey eyes narrowing. Then another display of Bane's power. The butterflies, although beautiful, had a feeling to them. They seemed Evil. Kawehi growled at them as the exploded in a puff around his face. His fear was maxed out by this point, and had shut down. Now he was defensive. Tail suddenly lashing, he wasn't sure what brought on this sudden challenge. It just was, it was something his instincts were telling him to do. Impress the female too!!! Something inside him chanted. Whatever it was, it was only making him braver and more stupid.
"Yha, you seem more keen on scaring us away." His insulting snarl was a sign of how stupid he was at that moment in time. Rational thought told him to run, but he was anything but rational when he taunted Bane. He was being a idiotic young male. Like a lot of young males faced with a pretty girl and a tough male. Had to prove his metal.

Bane:
Again Bane was surprised with Rhea's bold attitude, and a chill of desire swept through his body because she didn't turn tail and run from him in fear, she stood up to him. Although she wasn't impressed with his shadow butterflies, she still shot her maroon gaze back at his deep golden one. Bane looked straight into the small she-wolf's eyes, but what she said next put a dagger through his stone cold heart. "Which one do you think I'm going to choose?" The dark gray and red streaked male knew that his effort had fallen dead, and any chance of having the aggressive-mouthed little 'monarch' as a companion was out of reach.
Bane's lip lifted in distaste at Rhea's remark, and he turned his face away from her to hid the disappointment and anger that sparked in his orbs. "Suit yourself." His tone was marked with a bitter sound that made his teeth flash in a more threatening way. It wasn't that he hated her, he just let his frustration delude his actions.
Kawehi's voice spoke up, and Bane whipped his head towards the young arrogant male, irritation clearly showing in his expression. "If you're scared than run," Bane snapped out the comment before he could calm himself down, his bark held the sound of terror. "No point in staying if you're a wimp." Turning his back on the small she-wolf, Bane ignored her presence, and thought it best to leave her out of it. He had his intense gaze fastened in the unsettle runt that lashed his tail and growled in defense. A fiendish grin crept over Bane's muzzle as he stalked a few steps closer to the brown stripped male. Dark shrouds of Bane's own shadow enveloped his paws and climbed his legs, crawling like vapor and clinging to his body. His chance to win Rhea was expired, but he still could make this encounter somewhat of a fun challenge.

Rhea: Bane hadn't responded how Rhea had expected. Her foolish bravery actually seemed to please him for a moment, but the second she said the last line, his face became disappointed. His golden eyes were wide with disbelief, and in that instant, Rhea actually felt a small bit of sympathy for this shadowy wolf. "...you seem more keen on scaring us away," Kawehi had said. She could tell by his shaky voice that he was more nervous than his comment suggested.
Bane peered at Kawehi with a clearly violent intention. This was not going to end well. If Bane attacked, Kawehi would not stand a chance. Rhea knew she had to stop these two some how. Perhaps both she and Kawehi could defeat Bane. But his shadows, Rhea had no idea how powerful they might be, or what other sort of powers he might have. So Rhea did the best thing she could do. "Bane, don't." He seemed to care about Rhea's opinion of him, so perhaps he would listen to her. She spoke in a soft, nonthreatening voice. After a short pause, she added quietly, "Please."

Kawehi: The brown male widened his stance. "I'm no wimp, I'm from..." Kawehi paused, wondering if what he would say next was true. He prayed to whatever gods there where out there it was. "A long line of warriors, wolves who fought in the great battles of these lands." His icy white eyes stared right at Bane with unflinching intensity. Oh, how he hoped his bragging was true. If it wasn't he was screwed bad. No way in heck he was backing down now, he wasn't sue if he could anymore. No going back now, Kawehi, what did you get yourself into? Taking a step forwards, he was dumb and growled at Bane, challenging him to a fight. Backing down by either party until too injured to continue would be cowardly. Kaweih's plans involved taking down Bane and proving his strangth to the beautiful butterfly she-wolf. He was being macho, and the most likely scenario was him getting his tail handed to him.
