Koa;
As she spoke, she watched all the while for a reaction from her new male friend. Unfortunately, however, Koa was not rewarded with any such thing; in fact, his face was a blank as she spoke—totally unreadable. As she finished, Koa half-wondered if the blank had been a purposeful mask. As if he had felt a reaction to her words... but then it was gone again. It had been so quick, this lack of expression, that Koa thought that perhaps she had imagined it. In any case, whatever had been going through his head behind the blank was lost on her.
Then again, a very soft smile touched his lips when he spoke next. Koa blinked, her eyes hesitating on those lips of his for a half-second before flicking to his own eyes once more. He mentioned that he had dreamed of being an Alpha his entire life. In that moment, Koa felt slightly foolish, having attempted to place some sort of claim on the leadership as if had been nothing more than a passing fancy. She expected Epicenter to berate her... but he didn't. No harsh words were forthcoming.
Koa lifted her eyes more fully from the deer that was by now slowly covered in a fine layer of snow. Epicenter tilted his head down and looked back up at her, then admitted that he thought she could, perhaps, make a good leader—though only if he was her second. Koa felt a purse trying to come onto her lips, but she held it at bay. Frankly, whether she would make a good leader or not had nothing to do with who was her Beta. But she knew where he was coming from.
A graceful, light, perhaps slightly-teasing smile came to her own jaws now, and she looked him up and down with slow, purposeful movements.
"And what would make you a great Beta—aside from the life-long desire to hold the very position in which I may soon find myself?" She knew he would catch the subtle, joking sarcasm of her words.
