((That avvie of Kettu is JUST THE CUTEST))
DeSoto;
Her blank expression didn't shift. Why, DeSoto had thought he had said a few choice words; then again, as he had already thought, he didn't yet know his way around emotions all that well. Perhaps a carefully constructed phrase, thick with connotation, was not enough to wipe a bad mood from existence. The evil, navy-blue male's half-lidded eyes met Nanouk's. Navy and gold. Dark and light. Of course, Nanouk had her own share of darkness—but in that moment, DeSoto realized that it was the darkness that made her light appear that much brighter. Without the black, the gold would just be yellow. As Nanouk regarded him, and then the space around them in silence, DeSoto allowed himself to reflect on that. If he were to continue with the metaphor, he could point out that his own fur appeared very dark indeed, and only when he purposely stepped into the sun (or accidentally, sometimes) did his own colour show. Nanouk had once said something similar about his eyes. He didn't know first-hand what his own eyes looked like, other than shifting reflections in pools of water, but he figured it was more or less the same sort of idea.
Nanouk shifted then, and was suddenly looking up at the sky—or was it the mountain? DeSoto watched her in silence, remembering his own experience up on the mountain. To Geist he had traveled, and from Geist he had requested electricity. Geist had refused, dropped the potion holding Siren and making him lick it up from the stones if he truly desired a power at all. Siren... How odd a gift, for a wolf so sparing of words. Perhaps that made it all the more powerful. With his thoughts on it, it was almost as if he could feel the white, triple-lined slash tattoo across his chest. But then Nanouk was facing him again. He didn't know what she had been thinking, or what conclusion she had come to, but there was an expression on her face now. What, DeSoto didn't know. He didn't have that many words in his vocabulary yet—but it wasn't a bad look. At least, he didn't think so.
She asked him a question then, and he felt a subtle relief at it. Too much talk of Betas and Gammas and packs. Though he wished she would have answered his question, he was also glad to be rid of the topic all together. "Yes," He murmured simply, his deep voice half-way to a growl, as it always was. DeSoto moved closer to her then, feeling the time was right, and came to rest but a few feet in front of her. He angled his chin downward slightly, but kept his near-black eyes trained on her face. "To me, you can talk about anything."

Nanouk;
After he had stated what he had, she didn't really stop to think about it. Not because she was rushing into it or hadn't thought about it, but because she had these thoughts multiple times and had already thought of what questions she had before she knew who they would be asked to. She took a seat where she was, taking note of the fact that he had moved closer to her but chose not to think anything of it.
"When I first came to the valley, I knew nothing of the White Wolves. You taught me the basics and I've learned more the longer I've been here." She hadn't really needed to give a little bit of a summary, but she had least revealed the general subject of what she wanted to talk to him about. "You are evil and have Siren, so I know that at one point before we met you went to see Geist. But...what was it like? Or what exactly happened?" She glanced to the side, her paws slightly shuffling for a moment. She was going to add something else to it, but she decided it would be better if she saved it for after he answered her, if he chose to.
She didn't really know what to expect entirely. She had never been to the mountain before, nor had she ever really been told what happens when one goes there. Seeing as though the three White Wolf sisters were different alliances(also occasionally hearing that none of them got along), she could only assume that the experience was different for each wolf.
(Actually, I didn't really intend for it to be Kettu. I decided to change up my avatar a bit and the fox is actually my favorite animal, so I looked up fox avatars and that came up. I will admit that it does look a lot like Kettu, but that was kinda the point of me making her x.x)

DeSoto;
Her question hadn't been what DeSoto expected, though when she sat where she was, rather than moving closer to him, he should have expected as much. Friends, that's what they were—hopefully, at least, after this most latest interaction. All the same, he listened to her words and allowed them to form meaning within his head. She asked what it had been like when he went to visit Geist, the goddess of all things evil. He didn't clear his throat, for even when discussing awkward things DeSoto was not a wolf to use voice or sound generously.
"I am evil," He nodded, agreeing with her as much as reminding her. She didn't need a reminder though, he knew that—so perhaps it had been more for himself. That had been the first thing he didn't want to lose about himself before this whole Nanouk thing had blown out of proportion. He was evil. Evil wolves could have emotions—he knew that now. "My visit to Geist was... unexpected. I had never intended to get a power; I was always perfectly capable on my own..." His voice slowed, really considering his next words. "I requested Electricity from the deity. In my mind, it made sense and I had already planned ways on using it to aid me in getting what I wanted." That is, becoming a Beta. "But she had other plans for me. I know not if I offended her, or if she is simply a being beyond calculation... but she offered me Siren." To include the way she had offered? Well, DeSoto was already getting pretty good at being vulnerable with Nanouk, why not? "The goddess smashed the potion containing Siren on the rocks, commanding me to lick it from the ground should I still want it. I did so, cutting my tongue in the process, to prove that I was a wolf strong enough to persevere. I took Siren, and though I have not yet perfected it, nor practiced very much... it was my lot, given to me by an all-knowing and all-seeing god." He inhaled quietly. He knew if he were to practice more he would one day get stronger... but so far he hadn't done so very much.

Nanouk;
She listened intently as he described his experience on the mountain. If she was honest, asking him what his time was like didn't help her much in her situation. He was an evil wolf and had to go to Geist in order to get a power. She was a neutral wolf, so if she had went to the mountain, she would go to Sheba. She doubted that the three wolf sisters acted the same towards regular wolves, so his story didn't help her. She was still interested to learn what had happened.
"I see..., " she stated, staring at his mouth for a moment, curious as to if his tongue was scarred from licking stones. She quickly moved her glance back to his eyes, which is where her gaze always ended up in the end. His eyes just made her feel comfortable, their darkness giving her a sense of calm.
She thought for a moment, trying to think of how to bring up what she was thinking. She knew that she could talk to him about this. She just didn't know what he would think of it. Though, she never knew what reaction he would have to anything she said. The first time they talked, her talking to him and his reactions were what led to their current situation, so who knew what would happen.
"I've...I've been considering going to the mountain and visit Sheba." She looked up to his face to look for any reaction, though she didn't really expect one. Perhaps he would have a reaction to what else she planned to say.
"I have been thinking about it a lot. I never thought I would have any desire to try and get a power. I thought I was better off without one. But not too long before now I started thinking about it. I wanted to find a way to stay connected with you and kind of be with you without actually being with you physically."
Even though she wasn't sure what he was going to say, she said one final word that would hopefully connect the dots. "Telepathy."

DeSoto;
Her eyes flicked to his mouth, as if she could see through his lips and teeth to his tongue below. There would be nothing to see anymore; it had been so long since he had gotten his power that all of the cuts had healed. At the time, though, it had been bad. He hadn't been able to eat without pain for almost a season. The material from Geist's potion vials had seemed sharper than he would have imagined—like ice grinded sharp. That had been when DeSoto did not concern himself with things like pain or fear though (fear still being quite out of place within his mind), and the whole show had been but to impress Geist. Whether he had or not, he still didn't know; in fact, he didn't even know if she had seen it at all. It mattered not. He had Siren now, and was content with his lot in life. It would seem, however, that Nanouk was not yet content with her own. DeSoto watched closely and with a calmly blank face, still not a master of showing his thoughts outwardly (though that seemed like an advantage rather than a defect). She had been thinking about it—and Telepathy, no less.
"Telepathy," DeSoto repeated. A fine gift, for those who would have it. "Though don't seek it for the mere reason of staying in contact with me." He wasn't sure how the gift worked, but he felt that if Nanouk saw what truly went on his mind, she would find it disturbing... "I already have my Siren—if I have need of you, I can call to you; again, I say. Do not seek out this gift for that reason alone." He trusted that she, of course, had other reasons, but the fact that it was her first reason put him on guard. "From what I understand, the Goddesses are logical before all else, and a fawning heart of a friend to her friend, they shall not look kindly upon." He spoke mostly of Geist, having no knowledge of the other two, but he assumed they operated under the same general idea. Him highlighting the word friend wasn't to put Nanouk down, either. None of it was. But he truly believed the deities would not look kindly on her if that was the reason she gave. DeSoto didn't know why he thought so.
"Perhaps a friend should be more supportive," He said slowly, dipping his head but holding her eyes. "I do not know. You are my only friend; however... heed this caution I give you, as one who traveled to the mountain and did not get what he bargained for."

Nanouk;
It was indeed true that she had other reasons for wanting that power. As a matter of fact, in her opinion she had a few quite logical reasons and ways that she could use Telepathy that wasn't just for her own benefit. It was just that, seeing as though Desoto was one of the reasons and he was standing in front of her, that was the first reason that came to mind. In a way, she had almost seemed to ask his permission, just not in the way you might think. She wanted to know what he thought of that reason in particular, which he had somewhat showed what he thought, just not the way she wanted.
Actually, she did feel a slight pang of pain in her heart at one statement that he made, though she tried to forget about it. 'I already have my Siren—if I have need of you, I can call to you-'. If he needed her. Only if he needed her. Somehow, she was reminded of when they first met. She couldn't remember it exactly, but she had said something about if she thought he would benefit her she would let him stick around. Perhaps this was like a very late version of karma on her part, so she couldn't be too against it.
"You aren't the only reason. If I am completely honest, my other reasons for wanting Telepathy are stronger than the reason that I have told you. I merely brought up this reason in particular to see if you would be willing to try it, if I were to try and get that power." She glanced back up towards the mountain, realizing that the sky was now glowing a dark orange and red, the sun soon to completely disappear and leave them in darkness. "I don't doubt that you would howl for me if you needed me for something. But you forget something important." Her golden eyes turned back to him, slightly narrowed but also calm. "A friendship doesn't just go one way. Yes, you have Siren and could call me. But what about me? If something were to happen to me or I needed you, how would I call for you? I don't have a howl that can echo through the entire valley like you do. Even though it would take a long time before I even got powerful enough to do that, it's still a thought."
She slightly shifted herself, a little bit closer to him now, and looked back at the sky. She started to wonder if it was going to snow soon. Winter was quickly approaching, meaning she would stick out by a lot in the snow, but so would Desoto. When his name echoed through her mind, her long tail reached over and seemed to wrap around his.

DeSoto;
Thankfully, she supposedly had a few other reasons feeding her desire for Telepathy. DeSoto listened calmly, imagining how she might fair when going to ask Sheba. In reality, he had no idea at all. Geist was a far-cry different from even her neutral-sister, Taboo aside. It was almost like the evil wolves' penalty for being the way they were—having to deal with the goddess on the very farthest end of the spectrum. She then reminded him that friendship went both ways. DeSoto's ears flicked. He hadn't known that; or at least, had forgotten.
"Ah, friendship is a decidedly tricky business, then," He murmured, for he hadn't even considered that Nanouk might have need of him. So far, he hadn't even used his gift to call upon her, as he said he would. But perhaps this gift of hers would heighten the contact the two of them had. "What would happen to you, that you would need me?" His dark eyes almost sparkled, and what could only be described as a very border-line smirk ghosted across the length of his mouth. Was he being smug? It was a possibility... His question was valid, after all—for if he was across the valley and heard a call for help, even running at his quickest pace would take him a full day to reach the other side; then again, his reason for asking the question wasn't quite as valid. He was flirting, but only very slightly. He wanted to hear what she thought might warrant a need of him, and in what situation. Basically, DeSoto was suddenly interested in hearing when and how Nanouk would need or want him.
Her tail then wrapped around his own, and though he didn't flinch, he was a little bit surprised. What a pleasant turn the interaction had taken. His own tail then gave a subtle flick or two against hers, but his facial expression did not change—as if he almost didn't even notice.

Nanouk;
She listened to his first remark, looking over at him out of the corner of her eye. It wasn't really that complicated was it? Then again, he had likely never had any true friends before, being emotionless all his life in all. That was when the thought crossed her mind. He had been that cold, emotionless, hard wolf ever since he was born. He was one when he was a pup, he was one when he was a teen, and he was that as an adult. He had joined Frigid Plague as that same wolf. Yet, suddenly he meets her and he changes. Was she really that influential? How had a wolf like her managed to change a wolf who had been one single way all of his life into almost the opposite? What had she done that caused this? All they did when they first met was talk and argue. How had those two things made so much of a difference, both in Desoto and in herself?
Her golden eyes then turned completely and faced him, locked on his eyes. What had she done? She tried to think about it based on their first encounter, for that was when the changes began for at least one of them. He had talked to other wolves before, so it couldn't be the simple talking that did it. They had argued, but what difference would that really make? Had no other wolves ever stepped up to him the way she had? I mean, she did call him weak when others would have called him strong. But would her saying one thing about him change him that much?
Lost in thought, she almost didn't hear his question. She shook her head slightly and listened again. What would happen that would cause her to need him? She had to think about how to answer this. She couldn't just say that her wanting to see him was a valid reason to get it; he wouldn't accept that sort of an answer and she knew it. She slightly tilted her head and angled it upwards, one of her ears somewhat flopping down against her head, thinking. She mumbled a few things under her breath, not loud enough for his ears to catch, before she looked at him again.
"Well, there are other packs around mine and a fight may break out, though it's unlikely since we are new, but still. I might run into some wolves looking to kill whoever they come upon. Or maybe I would just feel completely lost and would feel more comfortable with you by my side." Her expression softened a bit at her last statement, looking over at his dark eyes. The sun was disappearing behind the mountain, so there was no sunlight shining on his eyes, but it was almost like she could see the true dark blue color that they were even without the light.

((Hey! I think it might be really fun for another wolf to come in, so Nanouk could see the way DeSoto reacted to other wolves that aren't her. I don't want to lose his aloofness or his general lack of empathy—but with her he softens a little bit. He's definitely my most atypical Evil, so I like him being sort of quiet and what-not, but it could be cool for Nanouk to see that he is still very much evil, but just... not? around her. Or something? Perhaps?))
DeSoto;
Nanouk fixed him with a very appraising look, then. DeSoto found that it made him a little bit uncomfortable, surprisingly enough. It wasn't that he didn't like her looking at him; indeed, he wanted her to look at him... it was just that he suddenly didn't have an idea what was running through her head. He knew it was about him, in some shape or form, but for once he couldn't read it in her eyes, and that was making him feel slightly blinded. Then she was mumbling, too quick and quiet for him to properly hear—which just made his senses feel even more dulled. His eyes were guarded, but his sharp ears perked forward, waiting to hear what she had to say.
He found a light, somewhat sharp smile flash on his lips for a moment. This one wasn't so much happy as it was sarcastic, an expression that DeSoto was more familiar with. "The pack closest to yours, unless I'm mistaken—is Frigid Plague." His smile softened to show that he wasn't truly threatening or boasting. He was right, Frigid Plague's border was closest to Ivory Wild's far edge—and his pack easily dwarfed the small and new family; however, Perjury was clever, not quick to spark fights. Not even fights she could easily, laughably, win. "Though perhaps having somebody on the inside of your larger, meaner, older neighbors is all for the better." His eyes found her again. Quickly, encouragingly so, DeSoto was learning what it felt like when emotions took hold of him, but unlike his and Nanouk's last meeting, he was already picking up how to keep them at bay. This was a positive, as he was not interested in losing any advantages he may have.
When Nanouk mentioned meeting wolves that would rather kill her, DeSoto felt a hot spark flare in his stomach. In that moment he knew beyond a doubt that nobody, anywhere, would ever hurt her if he was nearby. But then the heat in his stomach was settled, when Nanouk said she could get lost. He didn't hear the rest of what she said—but he took from it that she could feel lost without him. He moved forward fluidly then, unlacing their tails as if there was no other option. DeSoto moved forward smoothly, as if it had always been his plan. In a quick second he had closed the distance between them and rested his chin on the peak of Nanouk's head, sitting behind her. His eyes looked out to the valley beyond them, past the cave they were in, and breathed in slowly, calmly, happily. Perhaps this was what friends did...

Nanouk;
The dark she-wolf did agree with what he said, though she hadn't realized how close Ivory Wild and Frigid Plague were. He mentioned the advantage of having an ally in their neighboring pack, which was true, especially since that "friend" was the Beta of the pack. For a split moment, the thoughts of darkness tried to come forward again with an evil grin. But she managed to push them away, trying to focus on what he said.
As she said her last comment, she felt something, perhaps a flinch of sorts through their tails. She then felt his tail unwrap from hers, which did slightly upset her, but she showed no signs of it. She then watched as he turned and approached. There was no hesitation in his step, catching her off guard as he came closer. Her eyes slightly widened, unsure what to think of his sudden movements. She then felt something, his chin, resting on her head. She could only see a small portion of him now, for he was behind her. She wasn't sure what to think, but she felt her skin quickly heat up below her fur, perhaps even warm enough for him to feel. She wanted to look down at the ground in embarrassment, but she didn't want to move her head either and cause him to move. She remained still, her heart beating a little bit faster by the minute.
She very quietly let out a deep breath, controlling herself for a moment. She still felt her skin while it was flushed and her heart still beat quickly, but she calmed down a little. Then, almost as if she had been meant to do so, she slightly leaned back into him, putting the back of her head against his neck and her back against his chest. Somehow, she felt safe right where she was. Who cared what other wolves thought? In that moment, nothing and no one else mattered. It was just her and Desoto. A smile formed over her face as she felt herself slowly but surely returning. She merely had to hope that she didn't go back to her dark place when they parted.
(She's actually starting to get a little lovey right now, but that does sound like a good idea. Who though?)

((Awww little lovey ^^ Hmmm, maybe I'll make a post on my plot board and see who's interested))
DeSoto;
A slight heating of her fur, a slight hold of her breath, and then Nanouk settled against his chest. Her breathing evened out, and DeSoto's acutely trained-mind detected a relaxation in her muscles. It wasn't so bad, being close. Another kind of smile formed on his lips, then—not sarcastic, not unsure—but content. His own joints creaked slightly as he settled against her, as well. Together, almost as one, the two dark-pelted wolves gazed at the surrounding valley, all spread out before them like a picture meant only for them. In that moment, DeSoto felt that he could almost relax enough to go to sleep. He had never, never in living memory, slept when in the company of another wolf that wasn't a sworn member of the brethren of his original pack. It was a curious and small little realization, but significant. His eyes flicked downward, but he couldn't see her. Her tail was out to the side slightly—he could see that; but other than that, he could have been alone. Perhaps that was why he was so relaxed... but no, he didn't think that was quite right.
A sight of Frigid Plague rolled out before his mind, almost blocking out the valley beyond. DeSoto, admittedly, hadn't met many of the wolves from the pack itself; in fact, he hadn't met much of anybody in the valley, choosing to remain more reclusive than anything. His mind's eye image of Frigid Plague was just a bunch of faceless wolves (except for himself and Perjury). Ivory Wild's -members, when he thought about them, held no discernible features either—save Nanouk's own face. He realized that this was more or less accurate. What of the others? Ivory Wild, well they meant less than nothing to DeSoto... and of Frigid Plague? Aside from Perjury—the wolf who had encouraged him to seek Nanouk out—he knew nothing about them. They may as well have been strangers to him.
"You know," DeSoto said, lifting a paw and batting her side softly, thoughtfully. "I've never been one to put much stock in what others think..."

Nanouk;
"You think I didn't know that already?" Her golden eyes glanced upwards at him, though she didn't move her head or make any attempt to actually see him. A slight smile tugged at the edges of her jaws. She knew this about him already, though it was more of a thing she sensed through clues and hints that he gave off. When they first met he had said whatever he wished to her with no regard of her feelings. But that was back when he had no feelings himself. Now he did. But if what he said was true, which it seemed to be, then he hadn't changed a whole lot except for his emotional state.
It was then that a thought occurred to her, one that she hadn't even considered asking him previous to that moment. Maybe she didn't even want to know the answer, and perhaps he didn't even have one to begin with. But it was worth asking. "Desoto, why did you join Frigid Plague?" Since she first met him he had proved that he was more of a loner. He didn't know how to actually interact with other wolves the way a normal wolf would, since he was trained not to do so. He was once a part of a pack, but that pack didn't really provide him much except for training that caused him to become an emotionless ball of navy fur. Other than that, he didn't get much else except for strength. Now he was in Frigid Plague. But, as far as she could tell, there was no real reason for him to have joined the pack at all. Did he only do so because of Perjury? And if so, what did she do that caused him to follow under her? Or did they know each other previously?

DeSoto;
Nanouk reminded DeSoto that such things were obvious enough, at least when speaking about him. DeSoto blinked slowly, shuffling her words through his mind. What she had gleaned from what he said was not incorrect; however, she hadn't taken it in exactly the way DeSoto had intended. It had been a bit of a leap for him to say such a thing, in fact—and perhaps it was a good thing she hadn't picked up on it right away. DeSoto had meant... in that moment... that he didn't care what the others thought, and that he was in. In, or at least, wanted to be in. He wanted Nanouk. To be together. Indeed, he had felt such things before, with other females throughout his life—but this time it felt different. It was not to satisfy a need, to obey an order, or to assert any amount of dominance... it was wholesome. Or at least what DeSoto hoped and guessed was wholesome. But she didn't catch it. He bit back his words, and let a small and secret smile split his lips once more from above her, where she wouldn't see it.
She then asked him why he had joined Frigid Plague, which gave him an easy avenue away from the current topic of conversation. He stepped away from her, noticing as the heat from her own body left him and the air brushed his fur once more. He stepped to the very edge of the cave mouth, glancing at the open air below his paws, and out at the valley spread out even further beyond. "Because, for all my life, I was trained to be a Beta." He wasn't sure if he had spoken of exactly what his training had been for, before. But his words were true. "Every wolf in my pack, males and females alike, were trained to be Betas. When we came of age we were sent out into the world, to find and infiltrate, if you will, other packs and become the second-in command. There is no desire for leadership in my blood—no desire to overthrow anybody. Just to be second in command." He shrugged his powerful, sharp shoulders. "It is all I ever knew. And so, when me and my packmates came of age... out we went. I traveled for many seasons and no pack felt right. The Alphas I met were not wolves I wanted to follow, or lay my life down for if it came to it. But then I met Perjury." His eyes widened slightly. "She commanded the very ground that I walked on. Such power I had never seen. Immediately, I thirsted to know more. Immediately, I wanted to serve no others but she. I don't know why I felt the pull so strongly..." He shrugged. "But that is why. It was not for location, nor for security or any other reason, save for Perjury alone."
His tail flicked behind him and he turned back, sharp muzzle pointed towards the wolf that was quickly taking grasp of his affections. "Why did you join this Ivory Wild?"

Nanouk;
Despite the slight cold that drifted across her back when he moved away, she listened with interest as he explained. Ah, so that had been what he meant by training. Many times he had told her of this 'training' that he went through most of his life, but he had never told what that training had been for. She was about to question why he would aim for only second-in-command and not the Leader, but he somewhat answered her question by saying that he had no desire for being the lead. She continued to listen, ears slightly perking when he mentioned his Alphess. He said that she controlled the ground beneath him, which she could only presume meant that this Perjury had been gifted by Geist. She had to admit that a wolf with some sort of power was a good option for an Alpha, for a power meant they deserved respect, or had just been lucky enough that the White Wolves deemed them worthy of a power. As far as she knew, not many wolves were given the chance if having a power.
This thought only brought her back to her thoughts on getting a power for herself. She knew that there was a chance she wouldn't get one. She knew that if she didn't have a good reason to get Telepathy, or just wasn't worth the time, Sheba would deny her, were she to go to the mountain. She knew that the powers weren't just objects that you could go out and obtain. They were gifted and not to be taken lightly or taken for granted. She just hoped that this would aid her in her side-quest, if you would call it that, of getting Telepathy.
Nanouk was then caught off-guard when Desoto turned and questioned her about the same thing. If she was honest, it was a hard question to answer. Regardless, her answer was a lot less meaningful than his was, or at least to her it seemed that way. Golden eyes looked down to the ground, seeking the answer to his question but not really sure where to find it in her head or how to explain it. She would merely have to tell him the way that she saw it.
"Well, as I told you when we first met, I was a part of a pack once, one that was made up entirely of wolves that were all related to me. Family. We all knew each other, felt connected, and protected one another. Our pack as a whole shared a bond that I don't believe most packs do." This wasn't something that she could confirm; there were for sure other packs out there that were made up of just family members. But, as far as she knew, none of the packs in the White Wolf valley were like that. "After I...lost them, I avoided other wolves and didn't want anything to do with others in general. I can't say whether I did it out of fear or not, but I know that when I got to this valley I had no intention of joining a pack." The dark-furred she-wolf stood from where she previously sat, walking up next to Desoto and standing by him,looking out towards the forest. "Not too long after I met you I ran into a wolf, a female named Koa. Just looking at her I could tell that she was determined, eager to do something, though I wasn't sure what. She told me that she wanted to start a pack, though she didn't seem like she had a good plan of how she would do so. She didn't have any other wolves who were going to join her, she didn't have a name or any set rules that she would enforce in this pack. But she wasn't going to give up. She was going to start a pack and would lead it as she felt she should, no matter what anyone else thought."
A small smile pulled at her lips. She wasn't like Desoto; she hadn't wanted to follow Koa because she had demonstrated any sort of power. In all honesty, she didn't choose to follow under Koa out of full respect either. "I think that it was that willpower and dedication that drew me into this she-wolf. It gave me something to look up to in this new Alphess." She then looked down at the ground again. Thoughts of the true reasons why she chose to join soon flooded in. "But...to fully answer your question...I wanted to feel what I felt in my old pack. I wanted to be surrounded by other wolves that I knew would have my back if I needed it and I would give the same in return. I can't have my family back, nor will I ever feel the same closeness that I felt with my old pack. But I can still get close to it."
Realizing that she had stared-off for a moment, lost in her own thoughts, she looked back towards Desoto, one of her ears bending down a bit. "I never intended to become the Gamma of Ivory Wild, but me and Koa had hunted together during our first meeting and she was apparently impressed, so she offered. I suppose I didn't really see much of a choice in that regard." Really, she could have mentioned one other detail that she had never told Desoto before, but she chose not to. I mean yeah, she had been destined to grow up and eventually become the Alphess of her old pack, but that fact didn't serve much purpose now. It was in the past, and, unfortunately, so was her old pack. That "destiny" that she was supposed to of followed had no meaning now.

DeSoto;
She listened politely, quietly, and then even shard her own story. DeSoto's dark eyes, nearly black, drank her in, and his ears locked to her voice. It was a very different story than what DeSoto had told. He had always intended to join a pack. His forced-life-goal had revolved around joining a pack. Nanouk, it sounded like, had sort of done it on a whim—not an unthought-out whim, but an unplanned one to be sure. DeSoto had always lived his life with an immovable measure of structure. To hear that any other wolf lived any other way was a bit of a surprise, if he was being honest. But it seemed to suit her. She wasn't light and easy with her decisions, Nanouk, but she was confident, and DeSoto had a feeling that once she had decided something, it was for good. Where did that leave him, then? A slight swelling of his chest was the only indication that he was feeling anything—in this case, pride and perhaps a small measure of excitement.
"You don't talk much, about your first pack." If they were to be friends, perhaps one day more than that, DeSoto figured it only made sense to know more about her. He had told her most everything about himself—the surface stuff, at least. The innocent stuff. The easy stuff. But he wondered about Nanouk. What was her story? All he knew about her was that he had found her newly-arrived in the valley, and that something had happened to the pack she had grown up with.
The navy-male gave a sigh, and looked back to her. It didn't matter what she said, whether she told him everything or nothing—he was content sitting right there with her. DeSoto didn't know the first thing about mates or what any of the entailed, but he could almost taste the sentence on his tongue. Would she want to? Or was she only interested in remaining friends? Traversing such things were confusing for anybody, but for DeSoto it was like being lost in a maze in the middle of the dark. He realized he was staring, so quickly dropped his eyes. There was no sense in frightening her; or worse, letting her see his thoughts reflected on his face. Often, he had amazing control over his expression, but who knows? They were in uncharted territory... perhaps the rules were different here. He cleared his throat, and gave his sharp-muzzled head a shake. "You don't have to respond—if it's difficult."
