The Alphess of the Ivory Wild was out wandering.
Spring was a perfect time for it—new life, as well as the unpredictability of the lingering winter. It was never boring, that was for sure. Koa sighed to herself, her thoughts travelling back to the Wildflower Clearing. Her small pack was doing well. Epicenter, her beloved Beta, was coming into his own. She remembered well that his entire drive was based on desires of power. As her second-in-command, so far she had no complaints. They had taken on a few new members—lost track of a few old ones—but as a whole, things were good.

All that aside, however, sometimes it was nice to take a step back. Koa had picked the Longrass that day. The Lily Warren was always interesting to her—looking at the burrows the wolves had dug out, seeing the infrastructure where some of the roofs had caved in. It was marvelous, really. The ingenuity of some creatures fascinated her. She continued poking around for a while longer, until the watery sun in the sky went behind a cloud.
Koa shivered, and retreated to a more open spot of the Warren to find a little bit more sun. Once there, she closed her eyes and turned her head skyward. Ahh, the warmth was lovely after such a long winter. She kept her eyes closed, but the tattoo on the back of her head glowed into life. She was a very hard beast to sneak up on, these days...

I was calmly sitting in one of the burrow openings in the ground, allowing my mind to wander. My head/snout was rested on the edge of the hole opening. Every once in a while I would raise my head slightly, looking around, then settle down again. “This is the sweet comfortable life of a temporary warren wolf.” I thought to myself, rather amused from that thought. I was caught off guard by a scent of another wolf that I had just noticed. Whoever it was seemed to be close based on the strongness of the scent. I raised my head and looked around, wondering how I didn’t notice until now.

With her Awareness finally activated, Koa became instantly aware of another presence within the network of dens. She kept her eyes closed, but deciphered that it was a male wolf. Interesting—she hadn't caught his scent when she had been looking over the dens before. That was just all the more reason to use her power more often than not, she supposed.
All the same, she didn't move from her spot. Koa was not a wolf to force interaction on another. Alphesses were of a higher standard than that, unless they really had their mind set on something. Let him come to her if he fancied a meeting, and if not—well, Koa would stay and continue enjoying the sun.

Though she doubted he had any Awareness gift of his own, so she wondered if he even knew she was there. She coughed, loudly and obviously, just enough to announce herself without making it seem like anything was required of him. Her eyes stayed closed, and she smiled to herself.
If he came closer, she would feel it without the use of her eyes, so for now, she could just enjoy the sun...

I watched the wolf closely, hearing a cough from her. It actually sounded like it was to get my attention, making me realize that somehow she also knew that I was there. The glowing marking on her definitely had something to do with this. I found it strange and interesting, making curiosity in me build up. I crawled out of the hole I was relaxing in and made my way towards her. At first I was unsure of whether to approach from behind like where I was now or if it would be better and less startling if I went around her into her field of sight.

I decided that it may not matter, her ability to have awareness of me without seeing me wasn’t false. My interest was growing stronger.

Though the stranger still said nothing, Koa felt him exit the burrow and begin to make his way toward her. Her head was angled toward his direction, so he wouldn’t see the glowing tattoo on the back of her neck. He hesitated a little while longer, not approaching, until Koa finally opened her eyes with a slight roll.
”Are you going to say hello or continue to skulk around there?” She looked directly toward him as she spoke, leaving no doubt that she did indeed know where he was. Her minty-green eyes narrowed slightly, but she still didn’t move. She allowed her power mark to fade, then tilted her vine-marked head back to the sky.
