Secret;
Secret padded along placidly, a little lost. She had been doing something, although power knows she couldn't remember what. It didn't matter either. She was getting that feeling again, the one that was known and yet unfamiliar. The one that screamed and ranted at her to move on. To find something new. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was looking for something specific, something she had once known. She paused as a memory hit her straight on, closing her eyes in pain.
An older wolf smiled down at her, laughter in its eyes. She felt it reach down and lick her face with affection. "Soon enough we'll reach our destination my friend. You'll see what I mean about beauty then." The wolf turned and walked on and she ran to keep up with its longer strides. "I remember when I was young how the water was plentiful and the food was abundant. My pack was one of the last to leave. Goodness, I loved it there so much. Not a day goes by that I don't think about that glorious place." The young pup looked up in awe and admiration. "Then why did you leave?"
The elder frowned and sighed bitterly. "We had no choice. There wasn't enough left for us to survive anymore. Besides, they wouldn't let us stay anymore." "Who's they?" The adult shook their head. "Strange, but I don't remember."
The memory faded and Secret cried out in despair. She wanted to catch the lost memory and drag it back to her, but she knew it was a fruitless hope. It was gone. She knew whatever the older wolf had been saying was important to her, part of the reason why she always felt the restless urge to move on. She just didn't know what had brought the sudden memory on, or why it had departed so suddenly.
She glanced suspiciously at the land around her, but it was just as uninteresting and nondescript as everywhere else she had visited in the valley. She let out a heavy breath and turned to go.
