Fade lay in a dented moss nest, panting and puffing as the pups came out. Dusty paced nearby, jaws laden with wet moss, while Misty'd gone for more. Poppy hovered nearby, waiting to see if her mother needed anything. There was a stuffy feeling in the air, not just physical but emotional. The first, a gray-brown pup littered with white patches, came neatly, and silently, out. He made little noise - indeed, the only two indicators that he was still alive were the rise and fall of his chest and the small whimpering sounds he made as he was placed next to his mother's belly. Fade had only a moment's pause before the next one started to demand to come into the world. When he finally felt air on his fur, he yipped, a large sound that seemed to echo off the den. With gray fur and underbelly and dark yellow stripes, he was striking. Misty'd come back by this time, so she was able to see the second pup arrive. "They're beautiful." she murmured, taking in the warm, milky scent coming in from the pups as Fade groomed them. Fade turned tired but gleaming eyes onto her. "They really are, aren't they?" Behind her, Poppy slunk out of the den, head and tail low and jaw set. Fade watched her go. "She probably just needs to cool down." She told Dusty. "I'll only worry if she's not back by the time the sun is high in the sky." Dusty lay next to her, grooming the gray pup while Fade took the brown. "Sounds right," he said between licks. "I think we should hold off on names until they open their eyes and start developing more of a personality." He paused, then launched into an anecdote. "I once met a wolf whose parents called her Blue, as they both had blue eyes and thought she would too. Turns out she had amber eyes." Fade laughed a bit, then looked at them. "I was worried about replacing our last litter. But these pups - they really are unique, aren't they?" Dusty nodded, then, grooming done, the couple settled in for a sleep, despite the sun being at its highest point. Misty went to hunt lunch- she was definitely getting better at it! "They're beautiful." From the moment the two were born, Poppy expected to feel love - pride, tenderness, joy - but instead could only feel disgust and hatred. These two scraps were nothing but a replacement for her and her littermates! She suppressed a growl at her mother's face, before slinking out of the den to try and find a place that wasn't infested by those miserable brats that stole her mother. [-Time Skip-] The brown-and-white pup could feel his mother silently waiting. He silently waited too, but nothing happened. Why was everyone waiting? He could smell the milk in his mouth from his last feeding, so it wasn't that. He could smell the fresh scents that had been there for his entire life, so it couldn't be that. Unable to work out what was going on, he opened his eyes in bewilderment. His parents, a gray wolf with a white underbelly and a pink half of her face and a sandy yellow wolf who had a stumpy leg, beamed back at him. "Welcome to the world, little pup." they told him. He blinked at them owlishly. Welcome to the world? He took in his surroundings - a walled den with an exit hinting at outside and exploration - and looked back at his parents. "Look, Fade. His eyes are the same colour as leaves! Fade asked him "How do you like Leaf?" Leaf sounded like a good name to him, so he yipped happily. "Leaf it is, then." She turned to the other pup. "Now, how about you?" conspiracy

Kohani;
It was blurry, and somewhat bright. A mixture of mingled familiar scents laid in the air comforting the small pup, as his hazy vision cleared. He blinked slowly; adjusting to his surroundings everything seemed new to him. Overwhelming? No, he was in the presence of his parents and this was his first time he could actually see them. Was this what they were waiting for? For him and his brother to finally open their eyes, thinking of the other pup. He turned to get a good glimpse of him wandering what he looked liked as well. His eyes then swept the den again in search of the other wolves he'd smelt and heard but had not yet seen.
"Now, how about you?" He turned towards the voice; a small smile on his face as his ears twitched and head tilted in interest. What was he to be called? His mind was blank; as he didn't know much about anything having been new to the world. The only thing he knew of was the den and the other wolves that he'd been around. Surely though his mother knew of many things he could be called or maybe his father.
He stared down face scrunching up in concentration; it couldn't be that hard. What was a name anyway and why was it so important to have one.

The pup's ears twitched, a smile crept onto his face. She could see a small bit of confusion reigning there. She turned to Dusty, who looked back at her. "Hmm, names...names..." Fade pondered. "Storm?" "No, doesn't really seem to fit." "Blue?" Fade suggested. "His fur's more of a gray, though." "A tough one to name. Remember how Lillia was that way?" Dusty asked Fade. Fade smiled in nostalgia, then turned to the puppy again. Fade wondered what her newest additions to the family thought about all that was going on. Leaf was suckling, while his brother watched them. She couldn't blame him; a name was an important thing. Dusty, meanwhile, teased at a wad of moss while thinking of a name, deep in thought, while Poppy, who had came back the night after, glared at the pups. Fade shielded the two with her tail and glared back - what had gotten into her lately? She turned to the pups again. "How about Kohani? It was a traditional name in the desert I was from." "There's not much wrong with it. How do you feel about Kohani, little one?" She turned to the gray-and orange pup, ignoring the glare of Poppy - she was so going to have words with her after this- inquisitively.

Kohani;
Kohani? He nodded, tail wagging rapidly behind him. He'd liked the sound of that name, his name. Yep, he would be called Kohani. Kohani yipped in response his gaze going from wolf to wolf before coming to a stop on another female. Her gaze was intense though he didn't quite understand the look he was being given. Even still he felt that he should be wary of it, releasing a small whine before his mother shielded him from her intense stare with her tail. He'd been grateful for that.
Letting his gaze wonder as he lost interest in the moment before, he looked towards the dens opening. The light filtered in making him wonder what was outside of it. Probably another world that he didn't know of yet; he wanted to go out and look around. Though he felt as if inside of the den would be safer for him, but still he was curious. He'd wondered if Leaf was as curious as he was; he looked back towards him. His stomach rumbling as he suddenly felt a rush of hunger when seeing him suckling.
For now he would eat.

Fade swept Kohani, who seemed to like his new name, closer with her tail, watching as he started to suckle. After taking care of the pups, her eyes wandered to Poppy. "I never thought I'd see the day when one of my pups was so selfish! I did not raise you to be like this. You are glaring at a newborn pup. For the sake of the Spirit Wolves, they've only opened their eyes a few heartbeats ago! Now explain to me what your reason is for this, and it had better be a good one." Fade's singular eye had narrowed, the other being unable to, and Marr sat tree-trunk straight nearby, eyes narrowed as his jaws closed - he'd been about to say something along the same lines. Poppy huffed in annoyance. What nerve they had to be talking about selfishness! They, who conceived a litter to replace her dead siblings, as if Stone and Lillia never existed! As if she was the outcast, a useless whelp who was not fit to be replaced or loved! Her snort turned into a scream of fury, and she stalked out of the den, tail lashing out and hitting Leaf, who squealed in pain and confusion. She wouldn't go back to her pitiful excuse for a family. [Exit Poppy]
Misty returned, hauling yet another rabbit towards the growing family. She noticed a chill in the air that wasn't just from the season. She looked out to see a flash of khaki fur storming away, and Fade gathering a dazed Leaf to her belly once again. "What happened?" "Poppy happened. She outright attacked Leaf, then stormed off!" Misty shook her head in disgust. How any wolf could dislike, let alone attack or despise, a pup was beyond her. "I hope this rabbit will help." Fade let a ghost of a smile show. "Great!" Marr tucked in, dragging the rabbit over to Fade, as Misty joined in as well. Life was routine, with her or Marr going out to grab a meal, and the puppies were finally almost ready for the outside world. Then, she heard it. "Mom, dad, may me and Kohani explore outside?"

Kohani,
He hadn't been paying attention to what they were talking about being to engrossed into filling his stomach with his mothers milk. Kohani did sense the change within the others; but only stopped suckling when someone screamed. His head turned in time to see Leaf being stuck by Poppy; the cries that he'd let out had him whining in confusion. Had it been an accident? Surely she wouldn't try to hurt him. Though he only watched in confusion as she'd left the den his head tilted in concern. Being too young to know what was happening he'd shook his head before going to comfort his brother. She would come back then everything would be fine again; and maybe she would be better.
Time continued on with the two growing day by day, their different personalities started to slowly come out with each passing moment. Though he loved the safety of their den Kohani was getting anxious; he wanted to explore outside and he was sure his brother wanted to as well. When Leaf had asked can they go out he'd been quick to say somethings as well.
“Well stay close to the den.”
The little stump of a tail he'd had wagged excitedly behind him as he'd bounced on his paws; usually he'd been able to contain himself but he found that he was far too excited.

Fade smiled at the pair, nodding her head. "Well, as long as you stay where we can see you, or ask your father to go along." "I'm open to a walk. It's getting stifling in here anyway." Leaf bounced around him, holding back a bit as he did. "Come on, Dad! Come on, Kohani! Let's explore!" Marr gave a chuckle, the kind that was rare when they were trying to find a home, but which was now returning in abundance with the warmth. "Calm down, pups. You're so excited, a rabbit could gobble you up!" Those last words were met with him trying to nose both pups to the floor, while he attempted to cover every tuft that he reached with kisses. After an encounter that left Leaf squealing, he let the pups up. "Da-ad!" Leaf squealed, trying to bat at his father with his paws, still as small as the healing berries that Fade used. Dusty swept him aside with his tail, noticing Fade and Misty chuckling as Leaf yipped indignantly. "Now are we going or what?" Dusty asked his pups,before calmly walking outside in the defrosting air and sitting where the pups could see him. Humiliation forgotten, Leaf followed eagerly.

Kohani;
“-rabbit could gobble you up!" Kohani squealed along with his brother as his father playfully covered them with kisses; he'd tried get away but seemed to be too consumed with laughter. Even his attempt at leaving the den was momentarily forgotten as they'd been caught up in the moment. Kohani had managed to get to his feet and decided to try to rescue his brother.
”I'll free you leaf.” Kohani decided to attack playfully attack his father from behind. Though due to his small size he managed to get his tail since It'd been swaying behind him. “Got him.” He laughed, as he and his brother had been almost covered by their fathers tail. Then he was walking towards the den while they watched, before he asked if they were going to follow.
The two seemed to practically tumble over each other, as they made their way towards the opening. Kohani didn't hesitate to walk through out into the new world; he'd been wanting to see it since opening his eyes. Though it was almost overwhelming for the younger wolf; finally having set foot out of then. He'd glanced back towards his mother; before turning around to puff out his small chest. Trying to showcase the little bit of bravery he'd held; which if it weren't for his father's presence the pup would be less confident. Still the world was interesting if not a little cold to the touch.
He'd been told about the changing seasons, he'd guessed that this was what it was.

Leaf gasped in awe at the world. It was so... colourful! He yipped in delight as the cool grass touched his paw-pads, a welcome change from the stuffiness of the den. He sniffed at a yellow flower, when he felt something land on his nose. He jerked back, tumbling over his paws. The butterfly that had previously been on his nose floated away, and he heard laughter. Dusty was rolling around on the grass, making laughing sounds that had him gasping. "Hey! It wasn't funny!" "You're right." Dusty told him. "It was hilarious!" He continues yipping with laughter, and Leaf decided to continue exploring. He came to a swift creek, chunks of ice drifting along. He hooked his paw in, trying to bat at a minnow. The minnow swam away rapidly, fearing for its life, and Leaf overbalanced, falling into the river.
Cold. He could feel cold, and a burning. He struggled to the surface, where he msnaged to cling onto a small hunk of ice. There he sat, shivering, until he saw a yellow shape, struggling to keep up. "Leaf, JUMP!" Leaf didn't question him, he tumbled onto the pebbled bank, where he sat, winded and dizzy. "Come on, Leaf." His father told him. "I think that that's enough playtime for today."

Kohani;
A snort fell from Kohani's mouth as his brother tumbled back in surprise when a butterfly landed on his nose. Dusty was cackling as he did, and he couldn't help but chuckle at his brothers expense even as he cried out in his own defense.
“It was just a little butterfly, Leaf.” He teased, as he trotted up next to his brother. His nub of a tail wagged behind him. While their father continued to laugh Leaf walked off; and Kohani followed beside him. More so to keep a close eye on him just in case something were to happen; he'd be nearby. Playfully, he nipped at his brothers ear as he tried to get him to play; but he'd stopped when he heard the sound of running water. Then he saw the creek a little ways downhill, making Kohani pause at the top of it but Leaf moved closer.
Kohani looked back behind them, noticing that the yellow colored wolf was out of sight. Though he couldn't be too far behind them; he'd shrugged at the thought before going to join his brother. He'd been leaning over the edge batting at a minnow that swam in the water. “If you lean out any further you'll fal-”
Leaf tumbled into the water, his small body sinking upon impact. “Dad!” Kohani shouted.
Then everything happened in a blur. Dusty was running alongside the bank as Leaf had perched himself onto a chunk of ice. Kohani struggled to keep up with the two, his heart was pounding. From both exertion and hoping that his father got to his brother in time. When he finally caught up Leaf was laying on the bank with their father hovering over him in concern. That had been enough exploring for today, the yellow pelted wolf concluded as he took both of them back towards the den.
“Are you okay?” Kohani questioned, while nuzzling into his brothers wet fur; their mother was gonna be livid for sure. She'd probably not let them out again till they were a year old; he'd just been grateful that his brother for the most part was still alive. He was cold, but alive. “Once we're back in the den you'll warm up, I'll help you get warm. We can share my heat.”
Which considering his small frame wouldn't help much, but it was a start.

"T-thanks, K-kohani." Leaf replied. "I-i'm ok. Jus-just a bit c-cold." He stepped away from his brother and shook his fur out, raining droplets of water onto the grass. He trembled as he padded into the den, where Fade greeted them. "What happened?" she asked as she scooped Leaf closer into their bedding. "I fell in the river trying to catch a fish." Leaf replied. His mother pulled him closer, lapping at his fur with rhythmic licke in her quest to get him warm. Leaf smiled as she lapped - it was good to be in such a loving family. Dusty curled around the two, leaving a gap for Kohani to come in, and smiled. The pups may not have come back totally warm and dry, but that was okay with him. They'd come out unscathed, they'd come into the den happy. He smiled as he watched Leaf nuzzle into his mother, who was licking him silly to try and get the cold out.
Lillia watched this scene, smiling. They'd be alright. They'd never truly move on, she knew that, but they were determined, they were focused, and they were strong. No wolf noticed as the dark she-wolf floated out of the den. [End thread]
