Name: Suji
Age: 1 Year
Gender: Female
Side: Neutral
Eye Color: Blue
Coat Colour: Suji is mostly a honeydew yellow, but she has a garnet pink stripe running from her forehead to the base of her nose, as well as similarly-colored markings on the tip of her tail, her back left thigh, her front right paw, and the tip of her ears. Her entire body is freckled with color; the honeydew parts are freckled with pink, and the pink parts are freckled with honeydew.
Physical Build: As the runt of the litter, Suji has always been small, and her immune disorder didn't help her in that regard. Constantly being sick and losing her appetite during childhood has made her much smaller than her brother, Suku, and most wolves for that matter. However, because her diet is now so carefully regulated by her over-protective brother, her ribs no longer show the same way they did in her youth. Occasionally, when she is sick and unable to eat on her own, they will make a reappearance, but she will always be underweight due to her regular periods of illness in her developmental years.
Picture:
Personality: Suji is a headstrong wolf who is determined not to let her illness get the better of her. She is quick to take risks if only to prove that she's not as fragile as everyone seems to think, and often she will sneak away from her brother's side to find quiet places where she doesn't have to worry about her ever-present illness. She hates being sick with a passion, but even more than that she hates it when others look at her like she's sick even when she's not. Her stubbornness aside, she is typically very polite, unless you manage to get her angry. Her relationship with her brother can seem tense at times, particularly just after she's recovered from illness, when he tends to be the most annoying. She can understand him being protective when she's actually sick, but why can't she walk around once she's recovered? Even so, they tend to engage in good-natured bickering, as siblings should, and are clearly very close despite their occasional difficulties. As a result of living with her mother, a pathological liar, so long, Suji is very good at detecting bullshit from her fellow wolves, and she doesn't make a habit of letting it go unnoticed. Even so, she understands the need for a lie at times, especially when it comes to protecting others. She often feels frustrated by the injustices of the world around her, and despite her rough childhood, she doesn't seem to be affected by the actions — and inactions — of their parents the same way her brother is. That isn't to say she hasn't taken her own lessons away from her experiences, however, and she's always quick to help a fellow wolf in need.
History: Suji's parents always described the way they met as a magical once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Her mother was a lone wolf, her father a member of a pack he'd never really belonged in. Her father had been exploring just outside the pack territory. It was farther than he usually went, but something drew him outside the borders that night. It was storming, and he could have barely made out the stark yellow figure in the distance through the rain and wind, her silhouette seeming to glow faintly in the moonlight. Their eyes met, and in that singular moment it felt like sparks flew —
And that's just about as much of the story as young Suji bothered to listen to before she and her sibling began giggling, asking for the real story. They knew that their mother was lying — she was a pathological liar, after all, and if she and their father really were in love, then why had he always spoken to her like she was a bug beneath his feet? Her mother always refused to tell the truth, despite their pleadings, spinning a new story every time they asked. They eventually learned not to ask anymore.
Suji never knew if anything her mother said was true to any certainty, but she could at least assume that these things were true: She and her brother were indeed siblings, and they would have had two sisters, but they were both stillborn. She was born on White Wolf Mountain, although she wasn't sure about her father, who was much less colorful than their mother. She also knew that her mother and her father had a strained relationship, at best, and toxic at worst. Her father would go away for long periods of time on 'hunting trips', but he rarely returned with any food for them. Whenever he left, her mother would always look at him like she didn't want him to leave, but she never said anything. When he was present, however, they would constantly yell and growl and fight. It was during those times that Suji thought she might hate her father.
When her father was there, her mother would often neglect taking care of the pups, spending her time either fighting or making up in a continuous cycle of abuse. It was only when he left that she would do more than make sure they had food and water, and during these times she was a decent mother, even if she often seemed a bit apathetic. She didn't like complaining from her pups, and would often discipline it harshly. As a result, both siblings would often endanger their own health by not telling anyone about their pains and aches. After Suji's immune disorder manifested for the first time when she was around 4 weeks old, this became an almost life-threatening problem.
Suji had fallen terribly ill during a time when her father was at the den, suffering from a high fever, fatigue, and a lack of appetite. Her brother, Suku, was the first to notice when she didn't play as vigorously as usual, and he tried to tell their mother, but she was too wrapped up in her fight with their father to bother listening to his pleas. When he finally broke into their fight, her mother huffed with indifference and told him she would be fine if she just got some rest, and that she was probably just tired from whining so much. When she didn't get up to drink her milk, their mother insisted that she would end up whining later when she got hungry and that she wouldn't get any then. It wasn't until the second day that she refused to drink that her mother realized something was seriously wrong and took her to a friend of the family, a lone wolf with some experience in medicine. They hadn't talked in a long time, but their den was in the same place, and the family friend nursed her back to health and told them to be more careful next time. Unfortunately, 'next time' was barely 4 weeks later, and it was at this time that the lone wolf explained Suji's condition.
The amateur healer told the family that while she had never personally seen any wolves with this condition, she had heard tales of wolves who got sick very often, often for the silliest of reasons. She explained how to prevent Suji from getting ill again. Her mother, of course, scoffed and said, "I don't need you to tell me how to raise my pups," but her brother absorbed every word, already committed to protecting his sister.
From then on, her brother seemed to spend every waking moment of his life tending to her, even when she was feeling fine. She wasn't sure what changed, but she knew she didn't like it — even if she did get sick often, that didn't mean he had to practically quarantine her! Her brother forbid her from talking to stranger wolves who "might be carrying all sorts of nasty sickness!" and insisted that she stay inside the den at all times. Suji hated it — the den was where their mother and father fought most often, and besides, it was boring! Much to the dismay of her brother, she would often sneak out of the den and explore, although she never strayed too far. For the next several months, the siblings' relationship grew tenser, before finally, Suji exploded at four months old.
She told her brother exactly how she felt about his overprotectiveness, explaining that she wasn't helpless and she wasn't made of glass. Eventually, she convinced Suku to loosen his hold on her life, if only a little bit, and while he was still very protective of her, he started giving her more room to be herself. By this point in life, the only place their mother had in their life was to provide food. Other than that, they were practically independent already.
Their mother seemed all too eager to begin teaching them to hunt at 6 months old, ready to be rid of the sickly sister and her overprotective brother. She started a bit early, in fact, and they were taught at a fast pace. Suji quickly fell behind after she got terribly ill for a whole week, and she never really caught up. To this day, she is still a poor hunter, although she knows the basics at least. Suku, on the other hand, excelled, and he more than made up for his sister's failings.
Shortly after Suku finished learning to hunt from their mother, at 7 and a half months old, their mother kicked them out after a fight with their usually-absent father. They decided then that they'd stick together, although admittedly Suji didn't have much of a choice in the matter. For the next several months, they traveled through White Wolf Mountain's unclaimed territories before eventually deciding it was time to join a pack.
Lineage: Suku, her brother, is also played by me. They almost never leave each other's side.
Extra Comments: Suji has an unidentified condition that is characterized by a low amount of natural antibodies that would normally fight off infection. This immune deficiency permanently weakens her immune system, often making her appear relatively frail. As a result, she gets sick very easily and even minor illnesses can become life-threatening. To prevent illness as best as possible, she has to maintain a balanced diet and avoid sudden changes in body temperature. Even something as simple as being caught in the rain could cause her to get sick and possibly die. As well as being susceptible to viral diseases and infections such as the common cold and pneumonia, she is also very susceptible to bacterial infections. This means that were she to be wounded in battle, she'd have to take extra care to keep it clean or she could end up with a severe infection.
