GaleThe hot summer sunshine beat down against Gale's blonde pelt as he trotted along the edge of the lake. The tall weeds and grasses blow softly to the breeze that wafted past every now and then. However, each time it did, the warm panting wolf was glad to have it rustling his fur. His trotting path slowly turned closer to the water until he came to a sploshing stop on the shallow shore. Gale could feel the thick mushy ground underneath his paws but the coolness of the water was refreshing and he bent his head down to take a long drink of the lake water. A few natural sounds played around him and made his ears swivel back and forth but he continued lapping at the water until he eventually hade to take a breath. The young male looked up and sighed deeply as water dripped from his chin and his glittering silver eyes scanned the horizon of the beautifully glowing lake surface and smiled at the bright scene before him. bluekachoo

Orion:Orion loved the summertime. He loved the warm days and the starry nights. He loved the air, the sun, and the easy prey. And he loved this summer even more, after the winter he’d had to survive to see it. He would have starved last winter, had it not been for a few lucky catches and, when he had become truly desperate, an old elk carcass. It wasn’t until spring that the tables turned for Orion, when all the prey came out and hunting became easier. He was two now, the age of which he would have left his pack. Although he was basically full grown, his limbs were still gangly and his paws were still a little too large. But that didn’t matter. It was summer now, and everything was warm and golden. The sky was blue and large and the grass was green and supple. Orion tossed his head back to revel in the warm breeze and smelled the cool scent of the lake ahead. The summertime was lovely but it was also hot and the back of his throat felt suddenly parched. He broke into a trot, then a full-out run. His heart raced and he couldn’t help but grin a bit at the sheer joy of it. He slowed, out of breath, as he saw the young wolf at the edge of the water. He didn’t want to disturb him, but he was thirsty and missed the company of other wolves. Without much consideration, Orion approached the blond wolf. “Beautiful day, right?” He panted, “Mind if I join you?”

Gale;
A sudden voice disturbed the young male from his trance and his head spun around to look who it was. A stranger of course, the voice he had never heard before, and the tall male wolf that approached him didn't look familiar at all. The tone the stranger used was gentle and not threatening at all, letting Gale's slightly tensed muscles relax enough to form a welcoming smile in greeting.
"I don't mind at all." Gale's eyes quickly roamed the light brown male wolf and his stature, he looked about the same age as himself, but maybe a smidge taller. "The name's Gale. And yeah, it is a really beautiful day." His tail began to sway back and forth in a friendly manner as he stepped a little to the side to offer this stranger some room to wade into the shallows of the cool lake water. Gale himself even took a few steps deeper into the lake, the water coming up to his elbows and soaking his belly fur.

“Hey Gale,” He said, strolling forward as the other wolf made way. “I’m Orion!” He grinned a little as the mud squished satisfyingly between his paw pads. The water lapped at his pelt as he submerged his warm body up the his chest. He couldn’t help but splash a little, his wet tail wagging.
When Orion was in up to his chest he lowered his head and lapped greedily at the water’s surface. The water was wonderful- cold and sweet in his dry mouth. He guzzled for a long moment of enjoyment, the type one only feels while drinking fresh water on a hot summer’s day.
When at last Orion had drunk his fill, he turned his head back to Gale. He had met other wolves while wandering, but it had been a while since then and he had grown lonely once again. He was excited to talk to this new wolf and maybe learn about the area. “Great place! You live around here?” He asked, muzzle dripping.

Gale;
“Orion!” Gale let the name roll off his tongue with a smile as he watched the young male trot straight into the water with splashing steps. “It’s very nice to meet you.” His eyes squinted in reflex as a few drops of water sprayed up at his face. He didn’t mind it, in fact it was nice feeling the cool splashes of water sprinkle his cheeks and muzzle.
Gale watched as the thirsty wolf lapped at the water, and seeing how far he had waded into the lake made the blonde male step a little further in until his tail was soaked and is back almost swallowed under the surface of the water. Orion suddenly looked up from his drinking, a trail of dripping water followed his movement as he looked over to ask a question. “Great place! You live around here?”
Ah, sort of I guess.” A carefree chuckle lit up his face as his mind wandered to how you would answer the rest of that question. “I’ve been living in this valley for about a year now, but I kinda wander around a bit, I’m not apart of any pack if that’s what you’re wondering.” Gale side-glanced at Orion, his curiosity awakened as he studied the other wolf a bit closer.
“What about you? You don’t seem too familiar with these parts are you? Unless I am mistaken.”

They were both nearly up to their backs in the lake now, and Orion cast his gaze down at the water. It swirled around him and Gale, the mellow current carrying bits of their shedding fur. As the other wolf spoke another gentle breeze ruffled his pelt, making the reeds and cattails dance.
”Yeah, I’m kinda wandering too. Haven’t been in the valley too long. It does seem like a good area so far. Good hunting. I haven’t seen a lot of wolves though.” Responded Orion as Gale scrutinized him. He turned his body so he faced his new acquaintance, feeling the warm sun on his slowly drying face. “Do you have, like, friends that you travel with, or are you a loner?”

Gale;
Another wanderer, Gale raised an eyebrow as Orion mentioned being new to the valley. So he wasn't wrong about his assumptions. "The hunting is definitely good. Sometimes a challenge too." Gale thought back to when he ran into a couple of other wolves as they tried hunting down a wild boar. That hunt ended up unfruitful yet he was graciously gifted a new scar that almost left him on the side of a river bleeding out if it hadn't been for that one stranger who helped him out. What was their name, Onyx.
"Hah!" The blonde male let out a sudden laugh when Orion mentioned friends or other wolves. He had met many wolves in the valley, some stuck around, some didn't care to be around but it seemed as the seasons started to change a few of them went off to other things and he hadn't really seen them around much since then. Or any wolf for that matter. Maybe everyone was busy finding mates and making families of their own. "Yeah I got friends around here. Not many, but I know them and they know me." The athletic male quickly dipped his whole body and head underneath the water, spraying out his breath as he came up and took in a gasp of fresh air before prancing up to the shore. "A few of us had decided to travel with each other, but I'm not sure where they went off to." His voice trialed off and he even looked back over his shoulder as if he was expecting them to show up after weeks of not seeing them.
With his fur still soaking wet and leaving a puddle of water beneath him, Gale finally snapped out of it and shook himself dry. Water flung everywhere as he shifted back and forth on his feet and let his tail wave in the air above him. The sun would dry him off instantly but he would enjoy the dampness as long as he could. He looked back over at Orion who was still standing in the water and he smiled at the fine young wolf, "So yeah, I guess I'm currently a loner." His cheeks almost seemed to be blushing with sheepishness. He always seemed to find himself in this situation, finding friends, spending some sort of time with them, and then separating paths before it all repeated again.
Gale pondered this idea and realization as he looked at Orion. This new acquaintance of his could very much be a new friend who he would travel with for some time, maybe to be parting ways in the future, or maybe not. Gale wasn't going to try and read the future, that was for fate to decide, but as it came, so he would live.
"But being a loner has its perks. Like traveling the entire valley and exploring the mountains." Gale looked north towards the looming mountains on the horizon. "I've been there before." His voice almost grew deeper as his mind reached back into his memories before his gaze returned to Orion with a different glint in their silver iris'. "Have you heard of the White Wolves?"
(( Sorry it's so long! ))

“I’m sorry you haven’t seen your friends in a while.” Orion said when Gale had made his way back to the shore. The other wolf looked melancholy, looking over his shoulder like that. Orion didn’t want Gale to be sad. But then he shook out his pelt, seeming to shake off not only the water but also whatever had been bothering him. When he spoke next he seemed to be back to normal. Then Gale looked at him, that skeptical look in his eyes again. Orion wondered what he was thinking.
As Gale spoke once more, Orion made his way back to the shore. He didn’t want to leave the water but it was obvious that Gale was done cooking off and he didn’t want to just stand there like an idiot. He shook his tawny coat, the world blurring for a moment.
He followed Gale’s gaze north, toward the mountains. The snow was scarce from the summer heat, and he could see large patches of the rocky peaks. “Must be fun to explore, especially the mountains.” Said Orion, a bit awkward at the other wolf’s somber tone.
“Who are the White Wolves?” He asked. He turned back to his companion. His eyes were an unnerving shade of gray, just like the marking on his throat. “I’ve heard wolves talk about them but I don’t know why they’re so important.”
((No problem!))

Gale shrugged when Orion mentioned not having seen his friends in awhile. The sympathy was appreciated, but it didn't really bother him that much that he wasn't accompanied by his old friends. Why would it, he had a new friend now. "Thanks." Gale squinted his eyes in an grateful expression with a smile towards the other light brown male. The two of them seemed to both be observing each other quite closely, and it amused Gale, it was like a game between their minds as they compared each other, neither of them sure how to determine the other's personality quite yet. However, one thing Gale did notice with the other young wolf was a sheepish flinch in his step when he left the water. Did Orion not want to leave the lake. Gale definitely knew a couple other wolves who were fans of the water, and Orion must be another who quite enjoyed the sensation of being wet. Despite the assumption, Orion still made his way to the shore and shook his pelt off. "Must be fun to explore, especially the mountains." "Who are the White Wolves? I've heard wolves talk about them but I don't know why they're so important." With every word that the other male spoke, Gale's silver eyes glistened and sparkled with pure excitement and anticipation. Orion was going to be absolutely blown away by these foreseen adventures flying through Gale's imaginative mind. "The White Wolves... Ohhh, they are absolutely awe-inspiring. There is nothing in this life that could ever compare!" The young blonde male tilted his head and smirked with a lifted brow, watching the other's reaction as he shared this information. "They are both beautiful and dangerous creatures, and most of all mysterious. So so mysterious." Gale acted out each of his words, lifting his chest and posing in an attractive manor, then raising his hackles and lifting his lip in a dangerous threat, and then lowering his head and stalking closer to Orion in a swaying mysterious way, his smirk returning to his lips as he came up in front of the young male. "I can take you to see them, but it's a dangerous journey, you might not return alive." Gale was pretty close to Orion, his nose almost touching his neck as he whispered to his friend in an enticing way. "Are you brave enough to accept the challenge?" His words were sly, but there was also a gentleness that hinted in his voice as a little chuckle softened what Orion might be thinking was an aggressive threat. bluekachoo((Sorry it took me so long to reply, I had a crazy week! Orion could tell his new friend was very enthusiastic about the subject. As Orion spoke he could see Gale’s eyes shine with excitement, and when the blond wolf responded he grinned at his theatrics. Although he still didn’t understand who the White Wolves were, he thought they sounded pretty awesome.
Orion’s good humor faded a bit as Gale spoke, just inches from his face now. He felt a twinge of anxiety in his stomach. It would but fun to explore the mountains, and to meet the White Wolves, but somehow Orion didn’t think he was brave enough, especially if the journey was as perilous as Gale said. But he couldn’t say that, of course. Gale must just be teasing about the danger, he’d be fine. It’d be fun! Besides, he definitely wanted to have a travel companion. This would be a good experience for him.
“Sure, I’m brave enough!” He exclaimed, puffing his chest exaggeratedly, mimicking Gale’s cockiness.

With how close Gale was to the other young male, and what he was whispering about, it was expected that there would be a little fear coming off of Orion. Gale felt bad for how dramatic hw was making this all seem, but before he could really worry about it, Orion must have made up his mind and stuck up for himself, because he stood up tall with a proud look and declared he was brave enough to take on the challenges.
A wide smile spread across Gale's maw as he stood up to Orion's height and took a step back to give a nice look-over of the strong hazel-eyed wolf, and with a laugh he replied, "Good! You're ready for the journey then." With a little prance to his step he brushed past Orion and took one skip before hopping back into the lake. A pretty sizable splash followed as his laugh caught the warm summer air. His gaze flicked back to Orion, hoping the wake of his splash had at least touched the other wolf. It didn't look like he was that wet though, so with a wide toothy grin Gale took his paw and scooped up some water and sent it in Orion's direction.

Orion returned Gale’s smile, his nerves forgotten. A sharp pang of giddiness shot through his heart at the concept of traveling with the young male. He couldn’t keep his tail from wagging. After being alone for so long, he had a friend, and they were going on an adventure!
Gale’s laughter echoed in the late afternoon air as he jumped into the lake, spraying Orion. The silver-eyed wolf looked back at him with a mischievous smile and shot a pawful of water at him.“Hey!” Orion cried in mock offense as the cool water splattered his still-damp fur. He trotted forward, plunging into the lake. As he passed Gale he raised both his forepaws and brought them down as hard as he could, splashing lake water right in Gale’s face. “Right back at you!” He cackled, sloshing farther into the water.

Gale noticed the shift in Orion's continence sway from nervous to excitement. He was glad that young male didn't get freaked out by his little display of confidence and by the story of the White Wolves. He supposed that probably wasn't the best way to start off a friendship with a stranger he only met minutes before. Playing in the water on such a hot summer day definitely seemed to help raise the other's spirit as he called out with a laugh as Gale's splash hit him.
With a wag of his tail and a playful trot, Orion joined Gale in the cool refreshing lake and bounced up to splash both his paws on the surface of the water to shoot back at Gale. Gale closed his silver eyes shut just before the spray of water hit his wide open grinning face. He clamped down with his jaws attempting to eat the water as it soaked his face. With a gasp he was looked back at Orion again and this time he was winding up for a leap that would be aimed directly towards the other young male. His intentions were to grapple Orion and dunk the both of them, neither one would be coming out dry if this was gong to be a water fight. "Bring it on." He growled with a smirk tugging at his lips before he leaped forward at Orion.

Orion tried to get away as Gale sprang at him, but the smaller wolf caught his torso, sending them both tumbling into the water. It was cold with his whole body submerged and the momentum Gale’s body pressed him into the soft, mucky lakebed. He heard the echoing swish of their tussle for one otherworldly moment. Then he broke the surface, snorting the water from his nostrils as he laughed.
“You jerk!” He squawked, sloshing towards his friend, his waterlogged tail waving. “Let’s see how you like it!” And, growling playfully, he shoved Gale, trying to push him under.

Gale plowed right into Orion's large strong form and grappled him into the water. Bother of them went under for a few moments, limbs flailing and bodies rustling to gain control. Splashing water glistened in the bright sunlight as the two of them playfully fought along the lakeshore. A few ducks had noticed the commotion and decided to float more along the other side of the lake as the two wolves seemed oblivious to their grand disturbance of the wildlife and their habitat.
With a grinning laugh Gale found his feet and shook the water out of his eyes, violently sending water everywhere as he still stood elbow high in the water. Orion dared to call him a jerk, but this only made the blonde male smirk that much more as his widened his stance to prepare for the impact that his friend was aiming for. Orion threw his body at Gale, the two males struggling against each other to shove the other under. Orion managed to get his paw over Gale's neck and the muddy lake depths didn't help the young male keep his footing until he slipped up and was dragged down by the force of his opponent. However, Gale made a final attempt to grip his forepaws around Orion's planted feet to try and trip him up as well. If you was going to be taken down, Orion was going to come with him. His eyes squeezed shut right before he fell beneath the surface of the water.
