Nikita sighed dramatically as she slumped against one of the crumbled walls of the ruins. Today was so boring! And hot, too, which was why she made the expert decision to come here, where she didn't just have the shade of the trees to shield her, but the shade of the dilapidated monoliths that gave this place its name. Still, the heat aside, today had been completely unremarkable, and Nikita wasn't having it. Since leaving her new friend Peril at the Honovi borders, she hadn't run into anyone! At this point she'd almost prefer running into Perjury, the dreaded alpha of Frigid Plague who Peril had described to her in none too vivid detail.
She turned to look at the stone slab she was currently using as a pedestal for her lament of solitude, hoisting herself up to look at it with her front paws. It had strange, intricately detailed scratch marks on it. They looked... purposeful, not just like someone had gone to town on them with their claws. Maybe a bunch of wolves had had Stone powers, and they had used this as some kind of... practice material? Whatever it was, it was totally beyond the scope of what the small green wolf could understand. Still, she busied herself with inspecting the markings, so involved with finding some deeper meaning that, were anyone to appear, they'd probably scare her right out of her skin.

Silence settled in slowly. She wagged her tail subtly, turning and sniffing around the tall rocky forms. This place was quite new to her, having walked such a long way. Surely, it was time to settle down and rest, take a nap under these pillars. They did offer shade, after all, and she was pretty tired of sunbathing by now. She maneuvered around the ruins, brushing against the stone.
But wait, who's this? A new face, a new smell! Finally, geez, it had been ages since she'd last smelled or heard of another wolf. After a long, tiring journey, she was ready to mess with whoever this happened to be. There was an audible thump right before Milk hopped out from behind one of the crumbling boulders. She bounded toward the scent and unceremoniously plopped down in the space right of Nikita, sniffing her.

Nikita had been so absorbed in the stone carvings that she didn't hear the noise that preceded the wolf's abrupt arrival - she did, however, notice when the other was practically on top of her, all up in her business. She let out an undignified yelp, stumbling backwards a few paces, visions of terrifying Evil alphas on the hunt for her blood flashing through her mind. The green wolf looked up at where the other was seated on the stone slab, her heart beating wildly until she realized that the other wasn't actually attacking her.
"He-ey, what's the big idea scarin' me like that, huh?" She complained loudly, righting herself and shaking the dirt from her coat vigorously. She wasn't quite as upset as she made herself seem; it was another wolf, after all, and she definitely didn't look very imposing - besides, an Evil alpha was proooobably smarter than to attack directly from the front. "Who are you, anyway?"

Milk's ears turned to face Nikita and grinned, her tail lightly brushing the dusty floor. "Aw, I didn't mean to scare ya. Just was passin' through!" She was obviously amused at the other's discomfort, and she didn't seem dangerous, from what Milk had heard. She scooted towards her again, making sure to be as uncomfortably close as possible. She sniffed and twitched her ears, trying to get the best reference she could from her smell and voice. Why had she been just sitting here all by herself anyways?
Oh, she asked you something. Quick, pretend you heard it and answer to what the question probably was. "My name's Milkbreath. How 'bout you, miss rock inspector?" Nailed it.

Rock inspector? Now there was the oddest thing Nikita had been called, for sure. The wolf had inched closer to her again, and she wasn't sure quite how comfortable she was with the closeness - still, as long as it wasn't some strange preparation to turn Nikita into some sort of ritual sacrifice, she figured she could deal. Dimly she registered the color of the other wolf's eyes - despite being pink and green herself, she nonetheless found the whitish color to be odd, and a bit disconcerting, especially given her name.
"Milkbreath? That's a weird name." She laughed. It wasn't a mocking or condescending sound; she loved all sorts of company, even if they did have weird names or weird hobbies like sneaking up on wolves when they were clearly very much involved in solving the cryptic mysteries of the forest. "So why are you here, Weirdy-Mc-Sneaksalot?" There, the nickname tables had been turned! Nikita could handle this whole banter thing, no problem.

Milk smiled at the positive reaction. "Oh ho! Never heard that nickname before." She maintained a relaxed demeanor and giggled. This must be a very fascinating wolf, with many secrets she has yet to discover. And in which case, she must make it her duty to befriend this interesting gal and discover every last one of those secrets. From what she had learned, that is the best way to become friends with somebody. Probably. "They call me Milkbreath, either because of my eyes, or that I smell bad," She exhaled through her nose into Nikita's face. "And I'm here to figure out why you're all up and examining these rocks. What'd they ever do to you, eh?" She leaned down a bit and brought up her hind leg to scratch at the dry fur of her back.

Nikita made a face at the other wolf's strange almost-sneeze into her face. What kind of wolf was this? Clearly not one that had ever heard of personal space, or at least one that had found it in her best interests to disregard it. "You don't smell that bad. Your breath does kinda stink though." She giggled, and reciprocated the strange motion.
"Of course, mine probably doesn't smell like daisies either. And I was trying to decode those scratches, before you just about scared me out of my fur." She said, maneuvering around the other wolf to where she'd been seated before the intrusion. She made a motion for the other to look down at them - she hadn't quite realized the significance of Milkbreath's eye color. "They're neat, that's what they did. I'm gonna unlock all their secrets!" She said confidently, rearing up a little on her hind legs.

Milk shook her head a bit and laughed lightly at the returned huff. "Well, I sure hope my breath lives up to my name, heehee." It was spectacular to be able to spend time with another wolf who was that susceptible to her mild shenanigans. The other wolf didn't even seem annoyed! That's a first. Perhaps the other wolves in this area were just as odd as herself?
She hummed and paused to twitch her whiskers. "Scratches? Lemme take a sniff at those." She assumed the other meant that there were scratches on the rock she had so recently stepped around. She pressed her nose against the warm stone and searched for the scratches she was referring to. When she felt the indents with her nose, she snickered. "These little things? Just what is up with you, rock detective?"

"They're so interesting though! A lot more interesting than wandering around the forest alone, that's for sure. They mean something, I know it." Nikita was still scratching her head at the wolf's behavior, though - why did she need to put her nose on them like she was trying to inhale the rock? It's not like they smelled any different than they looked. When Milkbreath looked back at her, though, the eyes registered again, and Nikita's eyes widened in surprise.
"Wait! You're blind, aren't you?" She said it like it was some great discovery. A blind wolf? She'd never met one before! She'd heard her parents mention the condition in passing once or twice, but she'd never actually seen one face to face. "So that's why your eyes are all funky!" She exclaimed, not realizing how her words might be received.

Milk bristled slightly, but stopped herself and snorted in an amused manner. It appeared that this wolf wasn't the brightest- or at least had been a little late to the party. That's alright, she supposed, as the other didn't seem to be intentionally insulting her. Or maybe she did, it was hard to tell. Whatever it was, she would take it in stride.
"Congratulations, you've solved another mystery." She waved her tail as if to brush off Nikita's previous comment. The other wolves here must be as crazy as the other wolf if she's never heard of a blind wolf, right? It must be so. Milkbreath held her chin up and pointed her nose at Nikita. "But you'll have to solve the mystery of your name before pursuing any wayward scratches, buddy. What do ya go by?"

In her haste to greet the newcomer, and the confusion that followed, Nikita realized had completely forgotten to introduce herself. She gave a short laugh - more at herself than anything - and grinned wide. "Sorry! I'm Nikita. It's nice ta meet ya, Milkbreath, really. You're the most interesting wolf I've met all summer!" Her excitement was evident, and her tail thumped against the ground, clearly indicative of her happiness at having found a new friend.
"So, Milkbreath, you new around these parts? Or have you lived in the valley your whooooole life, like me?" Nikita had never met any outsiders, but she'd certainly heard of them - she felt it in her duty to learn everything there was to know about life outside the valley and all, being the brave adventurer she aspired to be. "'Cause I've never seen you around before, but then again, I haven't seen much of anyone around lately, and there's gotta be other wolves around here, right?"

It was obvious to Milkbreath that Nikita was similar to herself, in a way. Though Nikita seemed a bit more enthusiastic, and definitely more adventurous. But it was good to make new friends, of course, and especially ones that seemed loyal and optimistic. She made a mental note to remind herself to stay honest around this wolf. "Glad to hear I'm the hottest news in this entire season! For you, at least."
Milkbreath shared her excited and youthful energy and flashed a grin back at her. This valley she spoke of was a rumor that'd she picked up on once or twice, but hadn't gotten the chance to visit it herself, or even learn more about it. "I've been around, but I decided it was my time to settle down somewhere. Never been this far west before, really - What's this valley like, exactly?"

Nikita grinned at Milkbreath's good spirits; it was always good to have a friend who shared your sense of humor, she thought - someone who could at least appreciate pranks as much as she did.
At the other wolf's mention of wandering, though, she was a little surprised. "Wow! You came from outside the valley? I mean, that thing about not being from around here was sort of a joke, since I've never met anyone from outside - that's really cool!" She stopped herself momentarily, remembering that Milkbreath had, in fact, asked a question. "This place is great, though. It's the coolest place in the whoooole mountain range, I bet. There's always lots of prey, and there's packs of all kinds. I myself am in a pack called Eternal Snowfall." She said it a little smugly, but there was still mirth in her voice. "And the mountain can even give you magic powers! There are three wolves who give them out - Taboo, Sheba, and Geist. Taboo is for good wolves, Sheba's for neutrals, and Geist is for-" She hesitated for just a moment. "Evils."
She still wasn't sure what alignment Milkbreath was. She might have been good, like Nikita, but the young wolf had met a few Neutrals who weren't total sticks in the mud. She sincerely hoped the other wasn't evil - the fact that she hadn't tried to rip Nikita's throat out at the very start was at least a little indicative that she wasn't, though.

Milkbreath hummed inquisitively, nodding as she listened closely to Nikita's short speech. This all sounded like a bunch of funny business to her, but Nikita seemed truthful. Good, neutral, and evil implied that the wolves here were separated into categories, keeping the lines between them strict. She had bad experiences with packs like this before, and didn't exactly like the sound of it. "That sounds nice and all, but packs aren't really my thing. Still, I might consider looking into it." She paused to take a deep breath and go over what Nikita said in her head.
Would she really be that gullible to fall for something like wolves giving out magical abilities? She tried to contain her expression of utter confusion, but somehow she felt it had shown anyway. "But seriously, magic powers? Nobody would just hand out something like that, right?" She laughed, a hint of nervousness creeping into it. The way she said 'evils' was as if she had mentioned a great terror. It had occurred to her that Nikita could be one of those goody two paws who wish for only peace. The world may have sunshine and rainbows, though it is not comprised of just that. She would not consider herself good, or evil, but rather... neither. But she did not wish to be categorized.

"Oh, sure they would! The White Wolves are weird like that; I've heard lotsa stories, especially about Geist." She chuckled nervously; the thought of meeting the evil wolf sent chills up her spine. A wolf who was evil was bad enough, but an evil wolf with spooky magical powers that could probably kill her on the spot? Not exactly her cup of tea.
Milkbreath's confusion was evident, though, so she continued. "But I've heard good things about Taboo and Sheba. Hey-" She cut herself off suddenly, jumping up. She had just had the best idea. Why not prove to Milkbreath the magical properties of the mountain? "Why don't we go visit them? Not for me, of course, I'm alright just the way I am, but maybe they could give you somethin'! I don't think it's every day they see an outsider." She paused, and then looked back at the other wolf. "But are you a good or a neutral? You don't seem evil, to be honest, but I've met some nice neutrals, and you could be either one."
