A hunting we will go [Ninja & Aspen]

Baby led the way during their trip to the hunting plain. Aspen was hungry and Kodiak was just looking to be show around. She did her best to show him around, but to also give time for Aspen to talk and get to know Kodiak. She didn't want to be rude to either of them so she tried to please both of them. She had been moving ahead of them for a little while now, her nose to the ground as they entered the plains. She was looking for larger prey, enough to feed all three of them. A deer might suit if not Baby didn't mind skipping a meal so the two could get their fill. In all honesty she wasn't that hungry to begin with. Pausing she checked out the scents on the ground, trying to pick up the scent of something larger.

Aspen

I had been walking along for a short while behind the female, Baby and just in front of Kodiak. I was a bit surprised that she had gone ahead of us as I had gotten the impression originally that they were a mated pair. It would have been a little more fun for me if they were an item but no matter, I could still tease Kodiak and have just as much fun. We had not talked much on the way to the plains but I threw furtive glances his way whenever I got the chance and blinked innocently at him, showing him my sweetest smile. He was quite handsome and burly, just the kind of male I liked.

Finally we arrived in the plains and caught up with Baby. I scented the air, trying to catch something on the soft breeze that was blowing across the grasslands. I saw that Baby had the ground covered and would pick up any scent of subterranean critters that could serve as prey. I waited for Kodiak and swished my black striped tail back and forth.

.:On the border between the heathlands and the grasslands, prey is varied and abundant. A small flock of snow geese huddle around a pond, while a large porcupine waddles lazily among the shrubs. There are no deer, but a herd of bighorn sheep have come down from higher ground to graze on the fresh spring grass. The ewes are large and fat, but they are guarded by imposing rams.:.

Kodiak lumbered along. He seemed to defy physics with his slow and steady gait, yet remaining fairly close to the two girls. Kodiak tried to pay attention to the words leaving Baby's mouth, honestly. The scents were just too captivating though. He had picked up his pace a little out of excitement. Occasionally he would catch a glance from Aspen that tickled him. He found her energy and allure amusing and unique; something he had never experienced in his life of solitude. He managed to maintain his laughter in a loose, bright smile; just silent enough to not disturb the field.

Kodiak was intrigued by the variety of animals provided on the plains. The geese were things he was familiar with, but he had only seen flying overhead in their strange migratory patterns before. They looked tender, but not filling for someone his size. The next animal-something he had never seen before- had successfully evolved to look not edible at all. He was bold, but not that bold. The last animals, he was most familiar with. More of the bruises and scars that mark him underneath his coat comes from them than any other wolf or predator. He didn't know quite how fast they were outside the mountains, but knew if they couldn't get the higher ground when on the mountains, they didn't stand a chance. Regardless of uncertainty, his eyes were on the rams. He knew what he wanted; not only a filling meal, but a skull built like a crown to celebrate his arrival to the land.

Aspen

I trotted lazily around Kodiak in a circle, flipping my tail about and smiling at him. After making a circle I came to a stop between the two wolves. I licked my lips and looked disdainfully at Baby. Well at least she is another set of fangs to help us bring down something big. I thought to myself. My green eyes scanned the plains once again and landed on the porcupine. Well that was definitely out, they were annoying and dangerous. Not to mention difficult to eat if you managed to kill one. The geese had grown fat and lazy during the summer months but you had to get the drop on them to catch them before they could fly away and the plains didn't offer many places to hide. The big horned sheep looked like a possibility. They weren't as quick as deer but they were big and could pack a wallop.

I wasn't used to offering up my opinion on things but I figured with this rag tag bunch I should probably get the ball rolling. "I think the sheep would be a good option. As long as we're careful..." I slowly let my eyes slip towards Baby. She would make quite a nice shield if one of the sheep decided to attempt to ram one of us with their gigantic horns. I made a mental note to slip behind Baby if any of the sheep charged. "I'm pretty fast. Maybe Baby and I could run the sheep into a trap where you're waiting?" I asked Kodiak. Size was on his side and he would be a formidable match for any of the sheep.

She lifted her head and quickly looked around for their options. The smaller prey she simply scanned over, not even giving them a thought. Her eyes then landed on the sheep and stayed there. The herd was a decent size, enough to feed all three of them. The rams were guarding the fat ewes. Sitting down she kept her eyes on the herd, scanning over each individual sheep to look for any young, any old, or any injured. Her ears shot backwards as Aspen began to spoke, taking lead before anyone else could have the chance. She gave a rather good suggestion, but there was something that could go wrong with that idea. Her eyes focused on the rams and she could tell that they would be their biggest problem.

"The only potential problem is the rams attacking instead of running, they seem to be on high alert today," she said as her mind buzzed over what to do.

They could spread out and all attack around the same time, from different sides confusing and scattering the herd. They would have to focus on one or two, join up and focus their energy on them. None of them stuck out in particular so which ones should they focus on.

"We could all spread out, attack the herd at the same time from different sides that way it's confusing enough that we will have a better chance to fool the rams and get a safe kill. We only need to make sure to focus on the same few sheep," she offered her suggestion then wondered if Kodiak may have a better one.

Kodiak seemed a little too transfixed on those horns. "Spreading out is not a good idea. If more than one ram pinches an individual wolf, then it will take longer to get to support them. I've got an idea, though. If the sheep scatter and the rams come closer, why would you settle for less?" Kodiak could barely hide his excitement in fits of giggles, a bit of his psycho was starting to show. "If you are too scared, I volunteer to be the the bait. I'll just skim around the borders of a ram's individual herd and once he is successfully severed from them, be ready at his flank!" He shuddered at the thought that he could seriously get hurt in his plan. Facing the rams on unleveled ground was much easier for a cunning creature like himself. On these plains, they are practically equals.

Aspen

My green eyes looked out at the herd of sheep as Baby spoke. Because the creatures were together in a group, the rams were more likely to herd the ewes to safety then bother trying to attack one of us. I was about to point this out to my comrades when Kodiak began to speak. I liked his plan, it was far safer than splitting up or running a ram straight at one of us and it would be easy for Baby and I to run the sheep. I wasn't totally sure but Baby wasn't a huge, hulking wolf so I assumed she was pretty fast.

"I agree with Kodiak. If one of the sheep were to corner us they would easily trample their victim. Baby, if you and I run side by side straight at the herd they'll scatter like Kodiak said and we could cut one off from the group and run it twoards him. Then he could spring the first attack and we could all three go in for the kill." A toothy grin spread across my maw as Kodiak began to giggle maniacally. I recognized that laugh because I had the same one when I was about to undertake a dangerous stunt. I could feel the bloodlust rising in me and Kodiak's excitement was contagious. "I'm ready when you are!" I barked at the other two, getting into position to run at the sheep.

I was fantasizing about sinking my fangs deep into that ram when my ears suddenly caught a sound on the wind. It was faint but unmistakable. My Alphas had called me back to my packlands and I needed to go home. I huffed, annoyed that I was being taken away from such a good feeding opportunity, but if I didn't show up I would surely be punished by Ilana. "I have other matters to attend to." I said flatly and ran off towards home.

Kodiak's head turned lazily in the direction of Aspen as she ran off quite suddenly. Her pack was calling for her, huh? What unfortunate timing. A thought came to his mind suddenly. He had never encountered a pack in a non-predatory way before. Why not see what this whole pack thing is like? It seems to be the basic building blocks to a healthy social life for wolves. He wasn't too concerned for his safety of entering another territory unannounced; the thought of it excited him actually. The ram horns momentarily left his mind. Instead, he looked over his shoulder to Baby "Sorry hun. Looks like this party of three is disbanding. I'm gunna go stick my nose where it doesn't belong. You look like a good girl, so you should probably not follow." With that, he began to stalk after Aspen with a prance-like gait with his eyes fixed on her in a way that was uncomfortably similar to how he looked to the rams. He was way too big to be low to the ground and trying to hide behind things. Instead, he kept his distance and lazy pace, adjusting himself to be against the win, and let his demeanor make himself unseen.
