Foxtrot
The brown wolf was annoyed by the snow drift. His fur was fluffed up against the chill. One thing this wolf hated was cold weather. He would like to have been in a warm den with a pack, but he was not fortunate enough to have a neutral pack. The wolf sneezed and shook his head. If he caught a cold now, he would be dead in a week. It was the middle of winter. Walking through the large redwood trees, the brown wolf hunched his shoulders and lifted his legs in a high march to avoid dragging his paws in the snow. His paws were already numb and he could see his breath in the air. Icy air cut down his throat. This wolf may be strong and tough, but he was a baby in cold weather.
He looked around and inspected the tree roots. None of the high roots were high enough above the snow to make a quick den. He would have to dig out a rough dip to contain his body heat. One of the redwood roots rose a little above the rest and the snow nearby was soft. The brown male began to scoop out chunks of snow to dig under the root. A small hole started to form, but the wolf's paws were caked in ice. He breathed on his paws to try and thaw some of the ice, wishing he had some help.
