Axel

It had been a week since the pups' birth and while it was exhausting to take care of them I was actually enjoying every minute of it. I couldn't wait for the little ones to open there eyes and eventually develop their own personalities. I often wondered what they would be like, if they would take more after me or Jaavan or maybe they would inherit both of our best traits. I slowly padded into the Amphitheater, the snow up to my ankles. It was cold but Jaavan had insisted we come out here. Being confined to the den for a solid week was really beginning to wear on her nerves.

I looked around slowly, making sure to scent the air as I did so and I didn't smell any other wolves. Most of the pack stayed in their dens because of the bitter cold and would only venture out when absolutely necessary. When it looked like the coast was clear I barked over my shoulder at Jaavan who had been crouching in the tall grass with the pups beneath her. Perhaps it wasn't wise to bring them out of the den so early but we couldn't leave them alone in the dens and the only other wolf that knew about their existence was Portia and I didn't really trust her around them alone. She had made it quite clear that she wouldn't aid us when Ilana found out about the pups. Jaavan and I both knew that Ilana would find out about the pups because it was inevitable but I hoped we could go a little longer before that day came.

OOC: I aged the pups up to 3 weeks because they can actually move around somewhat and make vocalizations at this age whereas at 1 week their eyes aren't even open x3

Why couldn't things ever seem to go her way? All Jaavan had wanted was a simple, non committal, one night stand relationship with Axel and instead she got saddled with pups. Her life was officially over and she was absolutely not happy about it. It had only been about 3 weeks since the birth of her pups but already the red and black she wolf despised motherhood. She hated having to feed the pups at all hours of the night, she hated having to stay cooped up in her den, she hated not being able to hunt her own food and she hated the added companionship of Axel. She did not hate the father of her pups but she certainly didn't like him very much. Axel was nothing but kind and responsible to his small family but Jaavan was an alpha's daughter and was accustomed to being spoiled. Axel cold not provide this kind of attention to her as he now had two daughters of his own to look after. Jaavan would watch how well Axel would handle the pups and spend extra time with them because she became very jealous of the attention they were receiving. She still needed to be told how beautiful she was but Axel wasn't telling her.

The young mother had complained so bitterly about being stuck inside her den that Axel had finally agreed to take her and the pups out for a little while into the Amphitheater. It was a dangerous move as Jaavan's mother, the alphess of the pack, still didn't know about the pups' existence. Jaavan had done an excellent job avoiding Ilana the entire term of her pregnancy and even this week after finally pushing the small puppies from her body but she knew she couldn't hide forever. Jaavan feared her mother and feared what she would do to the little pups but she just couldn't force herself to think about the situation or conclude any kind of action that needed to be taken to soften the blow. For now, Jaavan could only think about herself and she wanted to be out in the fresh air enjoying the weather and the scenery.

A black form moved stealthily through the tall grasses that covered the territory, weaving in and out of the tall blades with ease. This wolf was Ilana, the alphess of the pack and she had just returned from a very exhausting journey to another pack territory to forge an alliance so her pack could grow stronger. The interactions with the Camelot pack alphas had gone smoothly and the black she wolf was happy to be home but upon entering the Amphitheater she had smelled Jaavan and Axel's scents on the winds. Curious as to what her daughter was up to since she hadn't been seen all winter, Ilana did what she seemed to do best and began sneaking around.

Ilana crouched low in the tall grass and saw the red form of her daughter and the black form of Axel standing together and she wondered what they could be doing. She'd noticed Axel bringing a lot of food to Jaavan's den lately and vaguely wondered if her daughter had been sick or injured. Well that would certainly have accounted for her absence but Ilana's hackles raised as he got a feeling this was not the case. She slowly began to creep closer until she was almost right on top of the young wolves and rose from her spot among the blades. What she saw made her purple eyes widen and her expression harden into angry confusion. There were two tiny pups with her daughter and they looked suspiciously like Jaavan and Axel combined. Ilana was no fool and knew what the implications were-these pups were her grandpups and she had not even known of their existence. With a cruel and calculated look at Jaavan she asked "What is going on here?"

Axel

I was thinking about possibly digging up one of the many food stores that were in the ground around the area when I caught a sound on the wind. It sounded like someone was threading their way through the tall grasses and the only reason I heard it because I was on extreme alert mode. I stopped and bristled defensively when I saw a black form move near us. I turned around and barked at Jaavan "Get the pups! We need-" I was cut off by Ilana's smooth, angry laden voice breaking the cold winter silence. I saw my alphess emerge from the grass and I took a few short steps to stand in front of Jaavan and the pups. "Stay under your mother, girls." I whispered to Tris and Phantom. Squaring my chest I looked towards Ilana, not directly at her, but enough so that she would know I was addressing her. "Alphess." I said with a nod. I didn't know how to approach this situation other than protecting my small family. I tensed up and waited.

Jaavan was just about to consider going back to the den since the weather was less than ideal when Axel was suddenly upon her. He said they needed to grab the pups and the she wolf was about to ask why when she heard the smooth voice of her mother float towards her ears. In an instant Jaavan could feel her hackles rise and her stomach drop into oblivion as she slowly turned her head to see Ilana standing there as if she'd appeared from thin air. Her view was momentarily blocked when Axel came to stand in front of her but she only needed to move her head to the side to recapture the image of her fuming mother.

The red wolf's heart beat fast and hard in her chest. She could feel her little furballs beneath her trembling from fear that they undoubtedly sensed from their parents. Jaavan squeezed her front legs closer together to better hide her daughters and continued to stare at Ilana's black and white form. Jaavan could get away with a lot of things, misbehavior was almost expected from her, but this was something else entirely. Ilana commanded strict permission from any subordinate to mate, even her own children and Jaavan had definitely not asked. Maybe she could explain to her mother that it had been a mistake? Things had just gotten out of hand and ended up spawning puppies? But it was no use, the she wolf knew in her heart that her mother would see this as an unforgivable act against her authority and the punishment would be swift. "Mother..." she said so softly it was barely audible.

Cold, purple eyes stared daggers at the two young parents as they both spoke. Ilana was not impressed by Axel's attempt at protection by standing in front of his little family nor did Jaavan's slight tightening movement escape her. The two clearly knew they were guilty and were trying to hide their mistakes from Ilana but that was not about to happen. The alphess was infuriated at the blatant disregard of laws she'd set up within the pack. Even if Jaavan was Ilana's daughter and the two young pups were her grandchildren, the alphess could not allow this behavior to go unpunished.

"I can see why you've been hiding from me all winter." Ilana practically hissed through clenched jaws. "You both know that disobeying any of my laws results in harsh punishment." The black and white wolf took slow, deliberate steps towards the tiny group. "Jaavan you whore." she spat angrily, glaring at her red hued daughter with a look of disgust on her face. "And you-" she turned to Axel. "You sniveling heap of carrion. Do you honestly believe she loves you? She doesn't love you, she never has and never will. You're both pathetic." The purple eyes that were set in Ilana's skull smoldered intensely as they beheld Axel and Jaavan. She growled a low warning growl at the black male to step back or she'd attack. "Jaavan you and the pups are to come with me. You will be punished, make no mistake about it, but for now you will await your fate in my den with the pups." Ilana stared at her daughter, waiting for her to come forward with the pups.

Axel

I could feel my black and orange fur stand on end as Ilana began to speak and as soon as the word "whore" left her mouth I growled low and threatening. I was well aware of what kind of punishment I would receive if I dared growl at the alphess but I didn't care. I felt threatened and angered at the way Ilana was treating my family and her own daughter. I didn't want to but suddenly my claws were digging into the soil and my teeth were bared as my instincts threatened to burst forth. I couldn't allow myself to let things get out of control or it would cost me my life and then who would take care of Jaavan, Tris and Phantom? Certainly not Ilana since she looked like she was about to kill all three of them.

My heart burned with passinate intensity for Jaavan as her mother stood before us insulting her as if she were a common cur. I grew even angrier when the alphess called our love into question. How could she say such wretched things? Of course Jaavan loved me, it was just her own special brand of love. I wasn't that naive...I knew that things between us weren't what other wolves would consider a "normal" mateship but I loved her and I loved the pups we had together and I'd be damned if I would let anyone step on that.

"Ilana!" I barked angrily with my head low to my chest. "Do not speak to Jaavan that way, she's your daughter for the Power's sake!" If I was smart I would have dropped down in front of Ilana's paws and begged for forgiveness for impregnating her daughter but something deep inside me just couldn't surrender...not this time. It was no secret I'd been stepped on all my life but I was sick of it. I wouldn't let Ilana destroy what was most important to me: my family, and if that meant receiving a beating then I would gladly accept the punishment. "This is not her fault..." I said quieter now but still my turquoise eyes burned with intensity. "I...I had my way with Jaavan..." I knew what I was implicating myself of and still I had to do it. I loved Jaavan more than anything and I knew Ilana would kill her unless given a reason otherwise. I glared at the black she wolf, daring her to ask if what I said was the truth.
