Something More (Kind of Open?)

Mysti felt a warm breeze buffet her fur as she entered underneath the pink trees. She looked up into the branches to see the year-round blossoms her grandmother had told her about. No flowers were to be seen. Instead pink leaves covered the trees. Despite her grandmother's lapse of information, Mysti's hopes of a warmer area were not disappointed. The leaves survived by the warm winds that were going through the forest every now and then. Yet a thin blanket of crisp snow still covered the cold ground. The snow was nowhere nowhere near as thick as in the redwoods. Mysti shot a glance at Savu. Her eyes radiated her pleasure and elation.

Savu gasped as he saw the forest. Many shades of fish is and crimson layered in delightful romantic hues. The moody, peaceful place made the wolf feel more at peace. His once erect tail relaxed to hang loosely. He sucked in a sweet winter smell and exhaled in contentment. "You were right." He smiled at her, eyes shining. "It's warm!"

Mysti closed her eyes and enjoyed the emotion-inducing sweet scents of the forest. Without realizing it, Mysti smiled. When she opened her eyes, they focused on Savu. He suddenly seemed different in Mysti's eyes. His pelt colors of ashy gray and sparkling white blended with the snow perfectly. Meanwhile the black stripe contrasted sharply. at different moment. Those rich sapphire eyes seemed more beautiful than when she had first gazed into them. They seemed to show a silent, unshown strength and a deep pain that had never been healed. Maybe it was just the atmosphere, but Mysti couldn't deny the passion that was pulsing through her. He had become her savior when she needed him the most. Then a friend when she had no one but herself. But now... could it evolve into something more?

Saving padded on, head on the air, eyes open ears erect to drink in all the sights sounds and smells of this wonder our place. His paws pushed through the thin layer of frosty snow easily almost without a sound. His sapphire blue eyes widened as the sun blazed overhead, casting glowing pink shadows across the snow. He turned his head to see Mysti's reaction. Savu was a bit surprised to see her gaping at... Him! He smiled and leaned against her, their pelts mingling. "Beautiful." He whispered talking more about her than the scenery.

Mysti:

Mysti looking away blushing. "Yes, it is..." Mysti said looking around at the landscape. What else could Savu be talking about? No way would he called a matted mess like her beautiful.

Striken:

Striken entered the pink forest. A sudden warmth flooded his body. He continued on unsurprised. of course a place with leaves had to be warm. The day was faded as he lifted his head to sniff the air. He froze. It was her scent! No, it couldn't be. Hadn't she perished with the rest of the pack? His legs trembled involuntarily. All this time, he had forced himself to believe that no one had survived. But still he had harbored a distant hope that one had survived. Out of all the wolves he had thought would even had a chance to still be alive, she was the most unlikely but also the one he'd loved the most. She was nowhere in sight. Had it been a trick? Yet her scent still tingled on his nose.

Savu smiled and pressed his nose against the frost costed trunk. He puffed out a breath, the moistness freezing on the air.

She looked over at him when he stopped. "What... what is the matter?" She said slightly tilting her head and sniffing the air for another wolf. The only thing she could smell was the pink leaves and flowers. "Why did we stop, and why is it warm over here?" She said stepping back into the cold and then back into the warm again.

Striken:

Striken just shook his head. He hated questions. Questions just lead to more questions. So he rarely answered any. His words were, "It's her..." He took another sniff just to be sure. There was no doubt about it. She was in this forest. He started moving slowly at first then began to pick up speed as her scent grew stronger. Then he spotted at the edge of a clearing. Frozen as he spotted a ashy gray male and beyond him was... "Mysti!" he howled and ran straight at her. As her ran, Striken was transformed. Every barrier that he had constructed over the last weeks melted into nothing. His tail was moving at a 100 mph as he threw himself at her. He licked her face and made little whimpering sounds in happiness.

Mysti:

Mysti stood frozen as Striken barreled into the clear. "Striken?" she said half thinking she was hallucinating. Then he was right in front of her. She could feel his breath and his tongue as he smothered her in his happiness. These was no ghost. It was really Striken! "Striken! I thought you were dead!" Mysti exclaimed returning Striken's happiness full force. "I thought you were dead!" Striken said, "How did you survive?" Mysti felt tears edge into the corners of her eyes. Both from happiness and despair at the thought of having to recount her adventures and mishaps since the pack was destroyed. "It was terrible," she said the tears beginning to stream down her face. She felt like she was melting into Striken's pelt.

Savu leaped into action, growling. Then when he realized they were friends, or pack mates, or...something, he backed off, feeling a bit left out and... What was that? A new feeling arose in his chest, his eyes clouding into a silvery blue. Jealousy, he knew it was true. Rock hard jealously, dangerous he knew but he just couldn't help the growl that remained in his throat.

Striken:

Striken looked over at the growling wolf. Who was this guy? Did he think for a second that he could threaten Mysti or Striken with a growl? Striken growled back his pelt bristling in preparation to attack. "Who are you?" Striken barked. He would not let some wolf attack the one he loved most.

Mysti:

Mysti looked up wide-eyed as the males began growling at each other. Her ears pinned in fear and her tail immediately tucked between her legs. "Stop," she whispered hardly able to speak but her voice couldn't be heard over the growls.

Andria jumped back and looked down at the grass and the pink leaves covering the floor. "Oh, hi...Misti" she said stepping toward the two wolves.

Savu scoffed, "only her companion that has been with her for a long time now." He snarled, not wanting to say he'd saved her life for Mysti's reputations sake. The mane like ruff rose quickly in his neck, the black stripe making Savu look more menacing. His fangs glistened Ivory.

Striken:

"She wouldn't just go with some wolf for nothing. What did you do? Save her life? Fly?" Striken didn't need to become bigger to be more menacing his eyes told it all. He would kill to protect Mysti. Somewhere inside him, Striken didn't want to kill but he was prepared to.

Mysti:

Mysti could tell the males were on the edge of a fight. Mysti had seen what Striken could do. She didn't know how strong Savu was but she could tell that he might be stronger that Striken. "Wait!" Mysti said finally speaking up, "He did save my life." Mysti looked into Striken's amber eyes then into Savu's sapphire blues.

Savu didn't stop bristling, but the afraid look in Mysti's eyes made him stop growling. He was surprised by her confession. "I'm sorry-" his apology wasn't aimed on this strange wolf. "I didn't mean to upset you." He stepped back giving her an apologetic glance, then he returned to a stricken and gave him a fiery blue glare that said: you touch her, and the next thing you know you'll be looking down from the stars at your mauled body.

Striken:

Striken stopped most of his intense growl. Only a slight growl lingered in his throat. He glared back at the other male. This male was an intruder in Striken's mind but if Mysti trusted this guy he wouldn't attack. But he wouldn't back down either.

Mysti:

Mysti had never expected to see Striken again. She had already mourned his passing along with the rest of her pack. Now his appearance sparked a flame of hope that others had survived into Mysti's heart. She tried to extinguish it but she couldn't manage it. So now here were the too males that had most influenced Mysti's the most (besides her father) were ready to fight. Mysti took a deep breath. "Striken, this is Savu. He saved me from the brink of starvation," Mysti said barely keeping her voice from shaking into her attempted calm tone, "Savu, this is Striken.... my.... my" the word caught in Mysti's throat. It was so weird to be saying this word that she had never thought she would use again. "My.... my.... brother."
