Can There Be An Alliance? (Alliance Proposal)

 Snow, a few years older then when he had first set out, came to the Eternal Snowfall border. His muzzle had gray now, but his silver fur was light as ever. Snow contemplated his purpose here, and if the Alphess would accept his proposal, as, when his pack formed, they would be next door to one another. Snow flicked his tail.

 Snow lifted his head. He howled as loud as he dared, and hoped maybe Zeke, his Beta, and Shiver, his Gammess. Snow didn't think they would come, but they might. He stopped after about 5 minuets, and waited for the Alphess of the -currently only- pack in the valley.

Piala:

Another howl rung through the air while Piala was patrolling. The owner was most likely a new pack member, but a tone in the howl made Piala reconsider her assumption. The howl had a certain strength to it that wasn’t found in most howls for acceptance. Piala loped graceful along the border. Her chest was heaving with breath when she paused and looked for the owner of the howl.

She quickly spotted him. A large, muscular wolf stood confidently on the border. His silver and white fur rippled in the breeze that blew gently through the air that day. His stance was similar to the dominant pose of an alpha or alphess. Piala mirrored his position as she approached. Her tail waved above her like a white flag of truce.

”Hello, stranger! What is your name and purpose in coming here? This is the territory known as Tranquil Meadows, claimed by the good pack of Eternal Snowfall. I am its alphess, Piala.”

Snow bowed his head in greeting. "I am Snow, the Alpha of the forming Guardians. I have come to ask for an alliance between our two packs." he said. Snow had nothing but respect for a fellow alpha. Even if he was still making his pack. His silver and white fur rippled in a slight breeze. Snow wondered where Shiver and Zeke were. They had come to Eternal Snowfall as well, why hadn't he seen them? Snow wondered if he could try and find them, but the mix of smells made it impossible. Snow figured that they were both doing something else currently, and dismissed it. (Rykett!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Piala:

So the wolf was an alpha and he wished to form an alliance with Eternal Snowfall. The male certainly seemed like a leader though Piala wasn’t looking to form any alliances yet this Guardians pack might be wolves who shared Eternal Snowfall’s goals. Snow hadn’t said any words that pointed to the pack’s side though Piala supposed that Guardians must be either good or neutral to ask an alliance.

Piala was ready to ask a couple clarifying question before accepting the alliance proposal. She began choosing her next words when something bothered her. ”Your pack is forming?” She asked suddenly unsure, ”How many members had you gathered? Which territory have you decided on? Do you have any other alliances? Are you good or neutral?”

"Yes, five, Hidden Glade, no, Good." Snow said in response to her rapidfire questions. He shook his head, trying to clear it enough so it wasn't spinning. Piala was fast, that was for sure. He pawed a pebble softly, and tried to put his thoughts back into order as he waited for a reply. He went over a mental checklist in his head, looking over it and checking off anything that needed to be checked off. It was a good method of keeping track of things, after all.

He wasn't about to ask anymore questions, he was the one asking for an alliance. Snow curled his tail over his paws, despite it being hot out. He quickly started to feel overheated in the direct sunlight and trapped heat in his fur. He was a wintery wolf, not much of a summer wolf when it came to fur.

Piala:

Piala considered the Snow’s answers. It was a forming pack with five members. Hidden Glade was nearby as well so it made sense that their two packs would be allied. Though the wolf had clarified several points about his pack, Piala still wasn’t as informed as she would’ve liked.

”I still have a couple questions,” the alphess said after a few seconds of thought. She paused then continued, ”Do you plan to make any other alliances? And what would you goals as a pack be?” Piala wanted to be careful and thorough before forming an alliance. So far though, Guardians seemed to be a perfect candidate for an alliance with Eternal Snowfall.

"Yes, I am. Havoni and Secluded Sunrise, and the goals would be to protect wolves that need it. And provide a place for wolves to find safety." Snow said, and started panting. What I would do for some shade, he thought, panting harder. Snow wasn't much of a shedder, his fur tended to stay in. Snow looked around, maybe Shiver and Zeke where nearby. If they still even wanted to be a part of his pack. Snow pawed the pebbles again, glad he was not a darker colored wolf. A wolf that was darker furred would overheat. Snow was light colored, and he was like a hamburger in an oven.

Piala:

Piala considered the alliance. What would the possible consequences of it be? The more Piala thought about it, the more she realized how the Guardians’ alliance could be potentially disastrous. Honovi and Frigid Plague were allies. If a war were to break out between Frigid Plague and Eternal Snowfall, which was likely since Frigid Plague and Eternal Snowfall had previously been two of the more dominate packs in the valley, Honovi would rally to fight with their allies. If Snow succeeded in allying with Honovi, Snow’s pack, Guardians, would be pulled into whatever battle Frigid Plague and Honovi chose to fight. If Piala also allied her pack with Guardians, the smaller good pack would be ripped apart as it tried to fight two sides of a war. If he failed to ally with Honovi, but allied with Secluded Sunrise, the valley would inside be split in half as the war involved all the packs save for Midnight Silence.

Piala sighed and looked at Snow, ”I realize that you mean to connect the valley in peace and harmony with your alliances as well as provide support for your forming pack, but I’ll have to decline your alliance from the safety of my pack, your pack, and the whole of packs within this valley. If war were to ever break out between the packs, your web of alliances would only destroy more lives than it saves. Too many alliances can be dangerous. I advise you to only ally with one pack instead of allying with all the packs that share some of your goals of safety and peace. One alliance would give you the support you seek without the complications of overlapping loyalties.”

Snow bowed his head when she said no. Her explanation made a lot of sense, so that meant that he might as well try for a alliance with Secluded Sunrise. "I see your point of view. I hope that our packs never cross on the field of battle." he said, turning to go. What he hoped for his pack would involve not fighting in wars. He hoped, in vain he knew, but still hoped, that there would be a lasting peace.

Snow looked back at Piala, and smiled. As long as he lived, he hoped he would never have to face a Grasslands war. With five packs in the valley, a second good pack was needed. Snow looked ahead to his next stop. He should be going, to the Barrens. He had one to make up there, and maybe another in the forest.

Piala:

"As do I," Piala said in response to Snow's words, "Though an alliance will not be in our packs' relations, I'm happy to see another Good pack rise into the valley. Goodbye, Alpha Snow. I wish you luck in your quest to form Guardians." She returned his smile with one of her own as he glanced back. The Alphess watched him pad away.

As his form disappeared over one of the rolling hills that curved the Grasslands, Piala turned away and loped back into her territory. She would keep her eyes and ears alert for more news of Guardians in the future. Snow was a driven wolf who possessed the qualities of a proper alpha. She was sure the pack would thrive under his leadership, though he may be inexperienced in the role.
