"Close your eyes and count to a hundred and I'll be back..."
That's what his mother said to him when she left the pup out on the rocky bluffs. Except after Gil had counted all the way to ten he had accidentally fallen asleep. Luckily, his mother had hidden him in a dip that had a jutting rock hovering over it like a suspended roof. The hole was just small enough to allow the pup hide in and no one else. When Gil woke up, he expected to see the kind, but worried blue eyes of his mother. Gil didn't see his mother, however. He stayed hidden under the rocks for what it felt like an hour before the pup began to cry. His mother must have forgotten where he was hiding! Obviously, there's no other reason why his mother wouldn't have returned when awoke. And who knows how long he had been sleeping! She should have been back by then.
Gil let out a small puppy growl as he squeezed out of his tiny puppy den, dirt clinging to his light colored fur. "Momma!!!" the pup called, "Mommaaaaa!!!! I'm here!!!" he howled. Anxiety rose up within Gil as he looked around the bluffs. Everything was so big and he was so low he couldn't see a lot of stuff without needing a perch. With a deep breath, Gil stepped out of the area his mother told him to stay in and began exploring around the bluffs.
"Mommaaaaaaa!!!!" Gil howled, his still floppy ears twitching left and right. It would have been fun to explore the bluffs if he wasn't so worried about his mother. What would she do without him?.... WHAT WOULD HE DO WITHOUT HER??
Gil panicked, he had only recently been weened off of his mother's milk and even then he wasn't too particularly fond of the taste of meat just yet. The pup began running around the bluffs, yipping for his mother to come back. Something bad must have happened to her. That would make sense, right?! She was always so worried about everything around them!!!
Suddenly, the off-balance pup tripped on his paws and skidded his face against the very hard, rocky ground. Gil staggered back onto his feet, he was okay but the dirty pup had scuffed up his cheek and the tip of his black nose was now a raw pink color. The puppy sniffled as he began to cry. He didn't like the game his mother was playing anymore, he just wanted her to come back so they could go home.
"Mommaaaa..." Gil cried out a sorrowful howl. "Mommaaaa, pleeeeeaase... come back!!!!" he cried and curled up on himself, laying out in the open among the rocks.
