Noelle darted alongside the mountains, her red and white fur blowing in the breezes as she ran. Years of travelling as a loner left her very lonely, yet she was very shy and never had the courage to join a pack. It's nice living out here alone, she thought, not having to follow any rules, doing whatever I want... but perhaps it would be better to have a family. Noelle wasn't the best hunter out there, despite her quickness and agility. It was getting hard for her to find food all by herself. If I were to join a pack, what would suit me best? A scout? A patrol? No... That's for the alphas to decide.
She suddenly lunged upwards as the path went towards the sky, the path turning to a cliffside. The trail had become more narrow. She glanced upwards, pointing her muzzle toward the sky and sniffing excessively. Wolves? No... there was more than one... Noelle felt an unsettling fear in her heart. This decision could change her life. She couldn't even remember the last time she was in a a pack, and her shyness might make her appear weak. She glanced downwards. A single wrong paw could send her tumbling down the large mountain to her death. She headed down a gentle slope off to the right, and continued along until the scent of the wolves became stronger.
Noelle hated to admit that she was nervous. She was always brave, but the thought of socializing with other wolves made her anxious. It was long since she has been in a pack. She still knew how a pack worked, but the ranks and the concept of dominance and submission made her uneasy because she was very dominant as a pup. But if she was threatened, she would most likely flee. The last thing she wanted to do was appear weak. She scanned the area with her ice blue eyes. This is it, she thought. I have to let them know I'm here. Her heart was racing. Noelle swallowed nervously before taking a deep breath. She raised her head skywards, letting out a strong yet almost sorrowful howl, trying to make it last as long as she could. She took a deep breath as the howl came to an end, and lowered her head. You can do this, Noelle. She awaited what would happen next.
