Rontu:
Light puppy-steps caught Rontu's ear as West got closer in his pronunciation. "Rawntoh" "So close! The end sound is longer, oo like who, like an owl." he wagged his tail and bobbed his head once before cocking it - hopefully that would translate into "almost there" for West.
With that done he turned his attention over to the steps. It was Ferox! "Hey Bro!" he bounded over, practically skipping and bowed down and wagged his tail to greet his brother. Ferox usually knew what he was saying - or meant to be saying. Mom and Dad were probably the best, but Ferox was pretty good too. He began skipping again, jumping, tripping, too-big paws practically dancing in excitement. They could have an adventure together!
As Ferox began trying to explain Rontu stopped, cocked his head and listened. "'Dimwit'? 'Stupid wolves'? Ferox that's not very nice. What did Val kick you in her sleep again or something? C'mon Ferox, West is my friend, be nice. Oh hey! Did ya see the squirrel I caught? Did ya? Wasn't it cool? It was so cool!" with that he began playing again and pounced on his brother, rasping and growling playfully as he finally caught one of Ferox's elusive ears and began chewing on it in play, then jumped off and went back to West, tail wagging. "West, this is Ferox, my brother." How to translate that for West? He nodded over to Ferox and began mouthing it out again. He bit his lip, fff, another growl, err, another yawn, aw ...how did one articulate x? He made a click like a k instead, deciding it was close enough.

West gradually sat up as he noticed another little yearling prancing towards them. He looked about the same age as his Rawntoh friend, and with some resemblance, they must be siblings. Caught off guard, West looked astonished at the pup who flippantly corrected him with the name. Respect these days was non-existent in pups and younger generations, or was it just this one?
West's expression faded into a flat scowl. Why did this tawny furball remind him so much of his peers when he was a pup. Suddenly with that thought West felt a deeper connection with Rontu, as his name was, because he knew how it felt. The golden striped body and paws danced about, pure excitement was evident in his actions as he tackled his "brother" West assumed, the rude language obviously not affection him.
"Thank you," the deep blue-green eyes of the adult wolf focused straight at the newcomer. "for correcting me. I very well could tell Rontu had trubble speaking, I was simply helping him along with trying." West didn't appreciate the way this pup was putting down Rontu just because of his speech impediment. The scarred gray wolf knew very well that overcoming incapacity was quite possible, but having constant degrading made it difficult to prevail. "And I really appreciate your welcoming me into the pack, how very kind of you. You must enjoy greeting all the new members." West beamed down at the blue marked face and green eyes, with a quirky grin plastered across his muzzle. Pups were never a pestilence, only some were more challenging than others. "My name is West by the way, and I would love to know yours. You do know how to say it don't you?" A hint of sarcasm was in West's voice as his grin turned into a smile of glee. He was enjoying watching Rontu gnaw on the other's ear, but the white pup suddenly forgot about it and returned to the large adult with a spastic tail, trying to speaking something again. West guess it was the other pup's name, and it seemed easier to decipher than Rontu's. Before the gray masked pup had finished pronouncing the name, West was already coming up with guesses. 'Ferawg, Frog? He looks more like a blue and white Fawn.'

Ferox:
Ferox waited smugly for West’s response, but was flabbergasted when it came. Apart from a slight scowl, the older wolf didn’t seem bothered by Ferox’s insults. The pup wrinkled his muzzle in disgust and confusion. He thought hard about how to annoy wolves; it was so frustrating when they didn’t respond! He even called Ferox kind! What kind of wolf responded that way to insults? ”Rontu, get off!” The grumpy pup pushed away his playful brother, roughly, as he was bombarded by Rontu’s playful gestures and nips. Ferox scowled and huddled into an annoying ball of fur that glared up at West with bright green eyes as Rontu retreated back to the male. As West smiled and supposed that Ferox liked to greet all pack member, he responded, ”Yeah, I do. Secluded Sunrise can’t become weak because of morons like you, so why don’t you just leave.” Ferox stuck his tongue out at West.
Then West introduced himself. Ferox could hear the sarcasm that the words were spoken with. That wasn’t fair! He was supposed to be the one being sarcastic! Ferox rolled his eyes. ”I already know your name. Didn’t you hear me before? Or are you deaf as well as stupid? I was watching you two as you ‘hunted.’ You already said your name. I don’t need to hear it twice!” Ferox noticed Rontu trying to introduce Ferox to West. The tawny pup rolled his eyes again, ”Stop that, Rontu. He can’t understand you, alright?” Then he returned his attention to West. He considered the wolf for a second before he offered his name, ”Ferox. Name’s Ferox and don’t forget it. If you stick around, you’ll be under my paw eventually ‘cause I’m gonna be the Alpha! Just you wait!”

Rontu:
Ferox was so cranky! "C'mon Fer, can't you be just a little bit nice to West?" Rontu shot his brother a reproachful look, but as he glanced up at West and found only an amused smile he decided to let it go and instead plopped down and watched the exchange. Ferox pouted at West's teasing about knowing his name and Rontu had to grin, Ferox pouted a lot, but not in this same way - he was being beaten at his own game here and he had to admit that it was amusing to watch. Still he didn't like seeing his brother upset and squeaked encouragingly - or tried to. Ferox snapped at him and again began huffing at West about how he'd one day be alpha, Rontu's ears perked at that. Ferox as alpha? He tried to picture Ferox in his mind as a grown-up: tough and in charge, lengthening the legs and maybe darkening the tawny coat with age, but the childish scowl remained on his mental picture and thus spoiled the effect. Rontu couldn't help but grin at the idea of Ferox growing up...the picture looked so out-of-place and different from Ferox, he even squeaked out a giggle.
Ah well, that had been fun. Now he sprang back to his feet and pranced a few feet behind Ferox and pounced, attempting to knock his brother flat on his belly. "Enough chit-chat, c'mon, let's play!" he rasped out a friendly growl and his long, skinny tail thrashed excitedly as he again secured Ferox's poor, abused ear and began to gnaw.

With each sound Rontu pronounced, West was getting closer to figuring out the other pup's name. The tawny wolf cub's boastful voice was ranting loudly over Rontu's "talking", but West ignored his rude behavior and gave his full attention to the little runt in front of him. In a very rude tone the other pup spat out his return greeting to West introducing himself, to which West replied with kindly looking over at the irritated glaring pup, "Oh, I had thought you forgot it because you were calling me a bunch of other names." West went back to focusing on Rontu but the bratty voice yelled at the chalky white pup to stop, and then declared his own name.
"Ferox! Rontu you were so close!" A full grin spread across Westariquo's face as he congratulated the pup before him and patted a giant paw lightly on his small head. Now turning his attention to Rontu's brother, West kept his smile and spoke to him. All sarcasm was gone from his voice, and replaced with sincere kindness and true awe. "I'm really glad to meet you, and Ferox, you have an awesome name by the way!" Leisurely standing to his four paws the grey male took a step over to Ferox and then crouched down to his green-eyed level. His gaze held respect as he spoke. "I believe it Ferox, you have a very strong personality, and a brave heart. You were born to be an alpha." The expression on West's face was glowing with love as he spoke encouragement to the pup. No matter what the furball said, West would not let it get to him. He was stubborn with pups and would always speak kindness no matter how much Ferox might hate him.
Watching Rontu continue to tacklet Ferox, West thought of something. "Hey Ferox, since you want to be alpha someday, I bet you know this territory like the back of your paw, why don't you show me and Rontu around since I am only a dumb new wolf. You probably know where some good hideouts are don't you?" West stood to his full height and indicated for the little wolf cub to lead the way.

Ferox:
Ferox’s scowl grew deeper as West teased the pup for calling him names. Ferox was preparing a scathing remark in return. Something about not wanting to use such a stupid name as Westariquo, but West moved onto the subject of Ferox becoming Alpha. The words brought a look of confusion to Ferox’s blue marked face. Were those compliments? The pup cocked his head slightly, considering West’s remarks. Why shouldn’t Westariquo compliment Ferox? Ferox was awesome after all. Ferox puffed out his chest deciding that West’s words were genuine. ”Of course I was! I’m the best wolf in this entire pack except for maybe Alphess Blaise. She has to be the very best since she’s alphess!” Ferox’s face radiated his pride and confidence. He was sure that when he was older, he’d be Alpha. Who else could possibly claim the position after Blaise besides him? Perhaps, West wasn’t as idiotic as Ferox had initially thought since he could recognize Ferox’s strength.
Suddenly, a ball of chalky fur attacked his ear. ”Rontu! Stop!” Ferox cried out and shoved away his brother. He followed the motion with a brisk nip at Rontu and a growl. West’s voice recaptured Ferox’s attention. His head swiveled around to look at the older wolf. West’s proposition found favor with the great Ferox as he responded with a smirk, ”Duh!? Who else would know it as well as I do? I can show you some cool places… Rontu can come too… I guess.”

Rontu:
"Grr! I am challenging you for your pack Prince Ferox! Will you fight?" they were grown ups, Ferox was Blaise's successor, defending his pack and authority from the dashing rogue Ronto come to take over Secluded Sunrise and be king of the woods himself. Or, that was the play scenario in Rontu's mind. There was also some dramatic storm involved and maybe that was West in the background there as the noble beta and loyal advisor to Ferox, but it was mostly the two warriors fighting. Until Fox (What Rontu used as his brother's nickname), whirled around, smacked his muzzle away and gave a quick nip and growl as a warning. "Okay, okay, I get it.", Rontu quickly squeaked out an apology and lay on his belly, head down, eyes looking up waiting for more punishment. "Gee, remind me to tell Val to freakin' stop kicking you in your sleep, you get so cranky."
As West suggested Ferox give him a tour, two little heads perked up and grew smiles. Ferox leaped at the chance and reluctantly allowed Rontu to join them. Spindly little legs jumped up and he squeaked excitedly, tail wagging like crazy. "Alright! Adventure! Lead the way Alpha Fox!"

West listened to Ferox gloat and made a small show of his teeth in a smile. Well at least he respected Blaise the alphess of the pack even though he placed ever other wolf under his superiority. Finding the pup's vain imaginations quite amusing, West simply played along with it and let Ferox bask in his glory. The gray flecked wolf didn't have it in him to crush any pup's dreams even though this one was a little stuck up fur ball, and he could just as well put him in his place.
White fluffy and gray tail wagged back and forth as Westariquo watched little Rontu "viciously" attack his brother and then be batted away by an annoyed paw. The golden striped tail lay low in submission and almost stopped wagging for once, but soon picked back up to speed as Ferox declared very haughtily that he would be a tour guide. With a spring to his step, West stood proud towards the little blue marked pup and exclaimed, "Alright, where to Captain Ferox, your warriors await further direction." One large white paw nudged the excited Rontu next to him and swished his tail at a much slower rate than his little friend.

Ferox:
Ferox smirked as Rontu submissively retreated with an apologetic squeak. ’That’s right! Bow to me!’ His green eyes returned to West as the wolf ‘awaited his direction.’ His stature proud and domineering her addressing his followers. ”Well, we currently stand in the Ashwood Grove where our dens are. My den… well Rontu’s and mine… is right over here!” Ferox scampered away to perch on the roof of his family’s den. ”Our sisters are probably getting their beauty naps in there or whatever.” He leaped down to stand in front of the den. ”So, we should definitely bother them.” Ferox let out his loud howl into the depths of the den. The sound echoed into the cozy home. A tan ear flicked as the sound died out. Ferox chuckled softly, imagining Val and Mey being jolting from sleep. They’d be so mad!
”But this isn’t nearly the best place in Ashwood Grove! Come on, idiots! There’s something cool over here!” The name just slipped out naturally and Ferox didn’t even notice that he’d insulted his subjects. Ferox scampered away from the den. His paws swiftly took his to a stump and he cocked his head. ”It’s gone!” He pawed at the stump. ”There used to be this little tree here and I used to pull it back and whack wolves with it when they passed by. It was loads of fun!” Ferox’s muzzle wrinkled in disappointment. Oh, well, he'd have to find another whacking tree.

Rontu:
West's huge chalky-gray paw scooted him over to one side, creating some distance between the two brothers, which might not have been such a bad idea if Ferox was still in that mood of his. For now though he seemed cheerful enough as the tour began. "Yep, Ashwood Grove, this is home. But I guess ya must have known that because you were hangin' out here anyways." it was much easier conversing with West in his mind, it took less exaggerated jaw-work and Ferox couldn't beat him to it, but it didn't really convey anything either so either way it was kinda pointless, so he'd have to settle for more body language. Mom said he was getting to be quite the actor with all of the facial expressions, squeaks and poses his growing vocabulary was made of. He nodded enthusiastically with Ferox's description but stuck close to West as Ferox topped their den. "We ain't goin' home now are we? The adventure just started!" he was relieved when Ferox simply decided to bother their dozing sisters (and likely a dozing Mom or Dad or both, not that Rontu was going to say anything about that;) and let out a quick but powerful howl directly into the den.
If you were watching closely you would have seen the aqua blue-green eyes grow wide with interest and the impishly pointed ears perk hopefully. The thrashing gray-ringed tail slowed reverently and a quick shiver ruffled the golden slashes down his spine. A howl. He still couldn't howl, maybe never would with the way his voice kept cutting out. The loudest noise he'd ever made was a sharp, medium-loud yip, and that had been a one-time deal. No, he would never howl, that was that. The ears fell back somewhat dejectedly and the eyes dulled with a sad light, but only if you were watching closely because a sad expression couldn't stick around on Rontu's face for very long.
Oh yeah, Fox's whacking tree. Good thing that was gone, it had been getting to be a menace and hadn't improved Val's mood toward her green-eyed brother. "Don't worry Fox, you'll find something else." Rontu made a sympathetic mew, clicked his tongue once or twice and brushed up beside his litter-mate playfully. "Where to next Mighty Alpha?" the tail began wagging in a blur again with new energy and the total but brief interest of a pup.

Westariquo:
West followed the prancing pups as they rambled towards their den. Ferox already jumped into explanation about the importance of the general area they were in, and the fact that he also had two sisters, as he climbed on top of his mounded home. "Wow Ferox, that is a pretty cool den!" The gray male added un-necessary enthusiam in his exclamation. Ferox proceeded to hop back down and send a loud scratchy howl into the dark enterence, making the adult drop his ears and furrow his brows in an expression of disapproval.
"How rude," West said sternly but not in a demanding way. "A great alpha always has his pack's best interest in mind." The learned gray wolf tried encouraging the disrespectful pup to better actions, but he doubted the blue marked devilish little thing would listen, so he changed the subject. "I haven't made a den for myself yet, maybe you to could help me dig it." West looked down at the small chalky pup who continued to wag his tail as he watched his brother, a peculiar expression on his face as if he was saying something. In outer curiosity, West almost became desperate to want to understand what went on inside of little Rontu's mind. His facial expressions constantly said something, and the large gray wolf only guessed that time would give him the practice of interpreting those expressions.
Ferox soon lost interest and was leading Rontu and West off to another thing that he seemed excited to show them. "A whacking tree?" At first West spoke in hesitated question, but the more the bold pup explained, the more West thought it was actually kind of funny. "Hey Ferox, I'm sorry your whacking tree is gone, but I can help you find a new one." Big gray head swung around the grove, eyes searching for a small sapling. "What about this one?" With a light step, Westariquo trotted over to a young tree that stood eye level with him, and was covered in small green buds and a few leaves. His large jaw snapped around the top of the thin stem and he yanked it back a few steps. Gray fur rippled from the flexing of his shoulder muscles as West thought that maybe this sapling would be too hard for the pups to pull. He was just testing it though, and with final effort, West let the tree fly. A whistle followed the jolting swish of the young tree as it flung opposite West's pull, and only its tip grazed the earth.
West landed on his rump from the release, and his mouth stung from the sudden lash. An almost confused expression was plastered on the adult's face as he tasted plant on his tongue. A leaf was caught in his teeth, and he spit it out with a laugh that began to hack at his lungs. West was all smiles as he looked over at the two pups watching him. "Maybe I should let Captain Ferox show me how it's done."

Ferox:
"Alphas can do whatever they want!" Ferox snapped in response to West's gentle reprimand. He narrowed his eyes, suspiciously, at West's quick change of subject. Helping dig a den? It sounded an awful lot like work and not just any work, dirty work. Why would Ferox go out of his way to get covered in dirt, and extremely tired for someone else's benefit? He'd probably do it if Alphess Blaise asked him. If an alpha asked him to do something, it was probably of utmost importance. But, there was no alpha asking for his aid in this situation, just stupid West. "No! I won't do your dirty work for you! Though, I'm sure Rontu would just be delighted to be filthy and exhausted for nothing." Ferox moved on toward the next location of the tour, his whacking tree... which no longer existed.
West promptly found a candidate for Ferox's new whacking tree. The adult wolf tried it out, but ended up on his rear with a leaf stuck between his teeth. Ferox smirked at his dumbfounded expression, then he giggled. West blinked and spat out the leaf to the cacophony of Ferox's laughter. "That," he gasped between guffawing barks. "That's not how you," Ferox slapped his paw on the ground as another fit of laughter overtook him. "Do it," he finally managed with a wheeze. West suggested that Ferox show him how. The tan pup was still giggled as he approached the tree.
He sized it up as his laughter finally died. It was taller than his previous one and thicker. What he wasn't able to whack as well with it as he did with the other tree? West had struggled with it. What if he failed or looked like a fool? It might already be to late to back out. Nervously, Ferox leaped up as high as he could and grasped the trunk between tiny white teeth. As his paws waved in the empty air, Ferox panicked. He was going to fail! With no rock to anchor himself to, he'd end up on the ground like West. Ferox let go of the tree as it begun to bend to his weight and dropped to the ground with a stumble. He recovered and turn wrathful green eyes on West. "It's too big! It wouldn't bend over! You idiot! You're terrible at picking whacking trees!" Ferox stormed off before they could see the hints of doubt and fear in his eyes. "Come on! I'll show you Alphess Blaise's den. Maybe we can find a good whacking tree on the way."

Rontu:
West said their den was cool and Rontu let his tongue loll out the side of his mouth - one of his grown up teeth had come in one corner and not the other, so his tongue hung out one side or the other, never quite straight. He then commented that he still needed to dig his den and might ask for help. Immediately the long, skinny tail thrashed the air again and Rontu nodded and squeaked out some baby barks, "Yes! That would be awesome! Whaddya think Fox?" Ferox immediately declined the offer and insisted he wouldn't waste his time getting all dirty and tired. Rontu groaned back at him. "Well phooey for you then, we'll just have to have adventures building an awesome den without ya Captain." Rontu rolled his eyes at his brother and trotted on with the group.
Oh yeah, the whacking tree. West tried the trick with a considerably bigger sapling than Ferox had previously used and landed on his rump with a leaf or two stuck between his teeth. The two brothers both giggled at the sight of a grown wolf looking so confused and Rontu hoarsely yipped to West to let him know it was okay to make mistakes. Besides, that had been pretty funny. Ferox told him that wasn't how you did it and went to give it a shot himself. Rontu cocked his head at that, "But, if West is all growed up, and that tree is bigger than your old one, aintchya gonna land on your rump even quicker?" Sure enough Ferox couldn't quite get the desired control and thus let the sapling go and got all huffy again and began shouting at West. He yelled a lot, but this shout was testy and aggravating as he blamed everything on West and Rontu barked up again and growled softly, his ruff raising slightly and he spanked the ground to get Ferox's attention and stopped waving his tail for a second. "Hey! You don't talk to him like that! He's our friend! I could tell Mom on you!" Tattling never scared his brother but he felt it was worth mentioning in his mental message as he tried to convey it physically with a disapproving look, a down-turned mouth and a raised ruff and tail. Ferox really ought to be nicer.
His brother stormed off and decided to take them to Alphess Blaise's den next in search for a more serviceable whacking tree. Rontu groaned again at his brother, turned to West and cocked his head and let his tongue loll out again as he straightened. He lowered his tail and wagged it once or twice and shrugged, "Sorry 'bout him, he's like this a lot." Then he pulled his tongue back in and scampered ahead with his brother. Pups are wonderful creatures how they quickly forget, so before long Rontu was back to trying to play with Ferox and when the opportunity presented itself, chew on his ear.

Valhalla“Hey, wait for me!” There was a mist that surrounded her, choking her vision to a foot or two radius. She had seen something, and like anything that moved, she gravitated toward it. Taking a few steps into the mist, sight did not improve, and did not even as her pace quickened into a reckless run into the fog. “I said waaaaait!” She squealed, and she had seen it again – there was some form and it was getting bigger! The flooring under her suddenly vanished and she was in darkness, being pulled from her dreams by a pathetic pup howl. It was only pathetic because she recognized it as her brother’s arrogant voice. A rushing sensation of falling made her paws tingled and she gasped- her leg kicked out trying to find the ground and hit something solid… Probably Mey. Her body and eyes took a moment to adjust to the light and her new surrounding. Soon her dream was but a feeling of missing something- like she was still searching for it, but would never get it. Hadn’t she been close? She growled, and that turned into a squeaky yawn. Ferox was going to pay. How? She didn’t think that far ahead, but her mind had boarded a one-track train of vengeance. She glanced at the form of her camo-splotched sister in the darkness, she stirred, but she didn’t stay to see if she would wake. She didn’t need her help. As she exited the den she shook out her fur that had been pressed against her in her sleep and immediately took off in the direction of the loud obnoxious sounds of Ferox. She saw the trio in the distance; Ferox seemed to be carrying a darker cloud than usual over his countenance. Val liked to imagine a real cloud that followed him, shooting lighting wherever his voice crowed. When she saw them, she changed directions, her limbs that were long and slender, but still carrying paws far too large, carrying her off to the side. She moved quickly, trying to saddle up next to them, hiding in the taller grasses that grew in clumps. She didn’t try and hide herself from her mute brother or the stranger. Stalking quickly forward she winked at her brother and made a threatening glance at the other to not give her position away to her ornery brother until…. Bursting into uncontrollable giggles she leapt at her brother, who she hoped was as distracted as he seemed. She leapt like she did all her other victims that ranged from the smallest caterpillar to the largest beetles – recently adding smaller rodents. OOC// Blood I think it was your turn before Val rudely intruded? ^.^

Westariquo:An eruption of laughter and giggles filled the clearing, and West had to smile at how stupid he probably looked. He quickly got up and shook his gray pelt clean of leaves and dust, in case any adult wolf was nearby. West offered Ferox a try, but his shrill little voice shouted out in anger and frustration. He was far too small to have any influence in moving the tree, and he realized that, but didn't want to admit it. Therefore, and as expected, he lashed out towards West for being the idiot. The gray adult took no offense and simply stepped forward with a encouraging smile. "It's okay Ferox if you can't pull it down, we'll just have to find a smaller one." The pup paid no attention to what West was saying, and hurried to change the subject and move on. Hopping off in the direction of the Alphess' den. For a moment West hesitated, an uneasy feeling creeping into his gut. To a pup the alphas were just another adult or "parent", but to West the Alphess was who he was performing for, who he was trying to impress with skills or loyalty. Just going to see her den could be interpreted in many different ways, and West didn't want her to see it in a wrong way. Rontu was sitting in front of his large white paws with an apologetic grin on his short little muzzle. The wagging tail and lulling tongue made the nervousness inside of West hide away again, and the large male followed the scampering pup with his own swishing tail. Along the way Westariquo watched Rontu jump after Ferox's gray and blue stripped paws, but his gaze caught a shifting movement in the grass just to the side were they walked. It was a little tan she-pup with blue tipped ears stalking up on them. Was that one of the sisters Ferox had mentioned when he rudely howled into their den? A sharp glare from the sneaky pup stopped West from saying anything other than the wide smile that was forming on his muzzle. He blinked his twinkling eyes and watched as the little nija leaped out at the grumbling Ferox. tovaana Rykett Fierfly
