Monster in the Barrens (Open)

Monster:
Slate slunk along the Sandmoor, his small stature and dark fur making him hardish to spot. He was still easy enough to pick out, with the white wings on his shoulders and blue muzzle. The teeth that stuck out sideways made his lips poke out a little. His blood red/deep green eyes looked forwards, his expressionless face a scary blank. He was numb to the blooming life around him, to the beauty. He hated spring, it only reminded him of what he wasn't. Though green was his favorite color. He looked down, and saw a flower. It was if full bloom, and was happy like nothing could ever get it down. Slate looked away, and continued walking, the flower crushed underpaw. Keep going, don't think. Don't feel. Don't let them in, if you don't let them in they can never hurt you. He was young, despite his appearance of being a  old wolf. He had just turned two, and yet he was covered in scars that made him, in his mind, a monster. If he didn't have the scars he may have even been quite handsome, save the teeth. His muzzle was a dark cobalt, the wing markings on his shoulders were pure white, and his half tail was tipped pitch black.

Vixen

Vixen trotted across the Sandmoor, occasionally losing her footing due to the loose sand that was characteristic of this area. She took a quick survey of the area, but the tall foliage obstructed her vision forcing her to rely on her nose. An unfamiliar scent drifted to her on the  gentle breeze, she flicked her abnormally large ears in an attempt to locate the stranger.  The lack of any sound confirmed that the stranger must not be in her immediate area. Normally she was not the type of girl to seek out other wolves but a few weeks alone had left her craving company. She began to trace the scent back to its' owner, fixated on the scent she was oblivious to the beauty that spring had brung to the sandmoor. After walking for a few minutes the scent was now strong enough for Vixen to confirm that the stranger was male and quite close. Figuring she was close enough now for the stranger to sense her she parked herself in one of the bare patches of soil and waited to see if he would come to her. Perhaps it was not the wisest choice to leave herself out in the open but she was confident in her abilities to defend herself. Her fox-like coat glistened as she waited for the visitor.

Monster:
Slate looked up, red-green eyes scanning the sandmoor and found a fox. He squinted at the fox, his mind saying, food, and stalked forwards. He watched her red fur as he stalked closer. He saw she was no fox, she was a wolf! Slate shot up, his grey belly caked in sand. His crazy eyes watched her, and wondered as the she-wolf watched him and he watched her. Deciding he should say something, but reluctant, he said dumbly, "You look like a fox.". His blue muzzle stood out, grey ears forward and trying to look friendly. Wolves were social animals, they had to be around someone at some point.

Vixen

Vixen let loose a soft chuckle. "Well that's a pretty solid observation," she replied. "My name is Vixen by the way, so my parents were pretty much thinking the same thing as you when I was born," she continued with a smile. Her eyes slowly traced their way across the newcomer as she catalouged all she could regarding his appearance. His coat color and markings were no shock to her, she had seen wolves with a far more colorful display. What first caught her eye were the strange way his teeth poked out of his maw, it gave him a terrifying presence which she actually found pleasant in a way. However her gaze did not linger long on his teeth as she took in the numerous scars that riddled his body. A ting of jealousy rose up in her, although many would have found it a strange desire Vixen had always had a craving to obtain a few scars of her own. In her experience others always tend to take someone with scars more seriously than someone without them, scars were an indication of experience neither of which she had as a result of having never fought a day in her life. 

Vixen returned her gaze back to his, as she waited for his reply. Her tail wagged slowly, her best indication that she meant no ill will toward him. Regardless of her desire for scars she knew better than to challenge this wolf, his teeth alone were enough to disuade her from that idea. Besides it had been a long time since she had a friend, and although she was definitely getting ahead of herself this was her best chance.

Monster:
Slate looked down shyly as she looked over him. He wanted to hide the scars that gave him his name, but his half tail could not hide anything. "My name is, well, my real name is Monster. I would be honored if you would call me Slate." His soft voice was barely audible, and he was nervous of what she thought of him. He had low self esteem, but he was a survivor. What others thought didn't matter and he knew that, but what others thought mattered. "So, what brings you around here?" he asked, cocking his head. His tiny tail wagged in response to her wagging tail, and he resisted the urge to smile. Smiling hurt, and his was ugly.

Vixen

Vixen was surprised at his given name. To name a pup Monster, that was just cruel. Vixen had always thought of herself as a dark soul, but even she would never go that far, no wonder he had taken to calling himself Slate. As curious as she was about how he had gotten a name like that, she knew better than to ask. "Well Slate it is then. I'm honored to meet you," she said with a small, humorous curtsy hoping to help ease his shyness. She listened to his question intently, "What brings you around here?" he had asked. What had brought her here? She had left a comfortable home with parents who adored her all for what, just because they hadn't understood her. She had been young and naive, perhaps she had made the wrong decision but it was too late to turn back now, she was too far from home. Yet one part of her was still convinced she had made the best choice. "I guess to put it simply I just wondered to this place and now I'm just trying to figure out where I belong, as cliche as that sounds," she laughed. "What about you? How did you end up wondering out here all alone?" She asked, her smile never faltering.
