Old Friends, New Feelings, Bad Habits (open hunt)

Helios barked with excitement, his voice no longer a high creaking of his puphood, but a rich, savvy baritone. He called over his tan shoulder to his best friend Dahlia. She was a sight to behold, with a swirling summer pattern of cream, pink and grey. Her eyes laughed with her voice, their mysterious, sage-blue color dancing. She was amazing, and he would protect her with his life. They were best friends after all.

Creeping up through the last stretch of trees, he slowed his pace and his breathing, his playful demeanor sharing its energy with a hunting crouch. "You ready to sink your teeth into something tasty?" He chuckled, eyes bright and trained on her. Today they were going hunting for some real game. Chasing bunnies and the occasional vole was all fine and dandy, but they were grown now, and had duties as nearly fully fledged pack members. It was time for them to bring in some bigger prey items, and what better way to spend and afternoon was there? Two friends out in the plains on an autumn day looking for something to bring back home. Besides, if they got enough geese, Blaise might promote them! Helios wouldn't lie about his ambitions. Someday he wanted to be beta, right beside Amora, Blaise and Epsilon. not to mention his mother and father. Dahlia would be promoted too, why wouldn't she? they were always together.

Dahlia:

Dahlia yipped excitedly, her blue-green eyes sparkling as she laughed and ran after her friend. She was currently on her first real game hunt with her closest friend, Helios, and so far they had just ran through the last stretch of tall trees to the edge of the clearing where they'd be hunting. Her companion, who seemed to blend in a lot more to their surroundings than she did, seemed to have a lot more knowledge on what to do. Which was good, because Dahlia had never really been serious when she caught smaller animals like bunnies or mice, so she was utterly clueless as to how things were supposed to go with big game. It was because of Helios' knowledge and intelligence that the pink and gray she-wolf cared so deeply for him, enough to even willingly want to protect him in case things went wrong.. But only time would tell if their first hunt would be successful enough to bring back food for their pack.

The petite she-wolf did her best to skid to a halt, her paws giving out beneath her weight and sending her face-first into the dirt at Helios' paws. Normally, most wolves who fall in front of their peers would be embarrassed. Not Dahlia. She merely hopped right on up and copied what it was her friend was doing, the young female putting all of her excitement and determination to do well in the best hunting crouch she could manage. "Yup! But.. What if we fail?" the female asked, her face becoming somewhat grim before she shook it off and got all giddy and happy again. "But with your brains and my energy, I don't think our prey stands a chance!" Dahlia was back to her optimistic and cheerful self within moments of her somewhat-sad thought of them being unsuccessful in their hunt for real game.

Waiting for the first plan on how they'd maybe catch prey to bring back to the pack, Dahlia focused her sage-blue colored orbs on her best friend to let him know that she was listening. And was giving him all of her attention in that moment.

::Up the hill from the hungry, excited wolves there is a large ram grazing. His horns have not quite completed a full circle, which means he is not yet at his peak.
To one side there is four wild turkeys pecking about in some dry underbrush.
To the other side, three deer stand perfectly still. There are two bucks, squaring up as if to begin a fight, and a female standing behind them.
Finally, in front of the wolves but grazing at the foot of the rolling hill, is a moose calf.::

Helio grinned at Dhalia. She was right, they were a great team! Together they wold take down anything! Turning his gaze out to the plains he took in their options. Directly in front of them was a moosecalf...All alone but not a bad choice...Where was it's mother? It's herd. Seeing the lone calf put him on edge. It was a good kill that the two of them could do well, but if a hidden guardian appeared, they'd lose all chance of catching anything, not to mention they could be killed. Gulping nervously he turned his eyes away. There was a stone colored ram up the hill, about the same size as the calf, but his mother told him that goats were hardy and stubborn, they would even fight a wolf before running...His horns weren't too large, but still. Three deer, two huge bucks waiting to rut. A doe behind them...Maybe while the males fight, the wolves could surprise the female and take her down. But if the fighting males see them...would they choose to fight the wolves or each other? Then finally, off to the side in some underbrush was a flock of wild turkeys. They could fly, so the pair would have to rely on stealth, and at most they would only catch two. This was hard, but hunting was never easy and not without risks.

"Dhalia...what do you think we should do? If we want to feed lots of wolves-not to mention impress Blaise- we should go for the doe over there, or the moose calf ahead of us." He wanted her input, she thought she wasn't the smart one, but often her insights would be the deepest.
