Alakeri sighed inwardly as he weaved his way through the ruins, his ear twitching as if he could hear the loners frantic calls, even though he knew they couldn't - or wouldn't - care less if he left. They taught him everything he needed to know, everything they could teach him. He knew he was ready to find his lost cousin, even though he barely remembered what his mom said about him. Oh, he remembered what his mom said about Alexro, or "Alex" as she always called him. "Oh, Alexro was so kind! He was like you,
playing with the other kids and being social. You almost look like Alex, you know?" Alakeri said in a mocking voice, his somewhat large shoulders moving smoothly under his short fur. The snow numbed his paws, but he trudged on.
Then something small and brown caught the pup's attention, and Alakeri stopped dead in his tracks. A small, bushy tail poked up from the deep snow, and it twitched before a squirrel appeared. It was food, and Alakeri hadn't had the time to hunt on his way to the valley. He only scavenged off of half-frozen carcasses and was now starving. He dared not move for a long minute before the squirrel lowered it's guard. Then Alakeri moved with such finesse that would be impossible for any normal pup of his age. He got closer and closer until some stones fell from a piece of the ruins, distracting both him and the prey. He snapped back from the noise and pounced onto the Squirrel while it was still distracted. He killed it and carried it to a small overhang in the stone. Alakeri took no time in devouring the squirrel, and he pushed the remains the side closest to the snow.
Shivering, he curled up and looked out the overhang before muttering something under his breath. "I am going to find you, 'Alexro', just you wait. You'll know of your younger cousin and you and me will both terrorize this valley, albeit with only us or with an entire pack."
