Secret found the landscape around her brilliant and wondered if Chai had someplace specific in mind. It seemed possible that she did. She thought about the question Chai had asked her as they were leaving the barrens and decided it was time to answer the other female.

"What do I remember? Not much honestly. Sometimes I feel right on the verge of recalling my past and other times..." she shrugged. "I do remember the feeling of someone nudging me along, of sinking my teeth in my first rabbit, and the frustration I felt as I started to forget everything. That's pretty much all."

She appreciated that the other female had the good manners to ask her if she minded, although she wouldn't have minded even if she had. " I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner, but I was trying to find the words to explain it. If you want to ask me something please feel free. If I can tell you the answer I will. I'm not overly private and the only secrets I have are those I keep from myself."

((tovaana Hope you don't mind that I went ahead and started the thread. Writer's block has made it hard for me to be active like I should so I definitely don't mind if you take a while to respond. Also, I'm certain Secret's already forgotten that Chai was Chia. ))

Chai;

The silence had not bothered her, she had gathered that Secret was a little odd, especially if she couldn’t remember her own past. Every now and then she would glance over at Secret and smile, looking over at Secret’s older body frame. She decided that she never wanted to grow old, was that something she could ask for? Chai sighed wistfully as the land around them started to shift and change and it almost felt like she was rewinding her journey, since she had just been here.

Chai glanced excitedly over at Secret to see if she had any reaction to their new surroundings. It wasn’t that Chai particularly cared whether or not Chai had chosen correctly, it was to see if she had met the challenge correctly. Secret then started to speak, answering the question she had asked back in the barrens.

“I thought so.” Chai chimed in response to her last phrase, a grin adorning her teal and gray face. She then eyed a rock that slanted from the ground up to the sky, where it narrowed and pointed sharply into the sky. Her paws quickened and she dashed toward the rock and ran up the slope as far as she could to get a better look at around them. Chai cast her purple gaze down toward Secret.

“What do you think of this place? Beautiful, right? Or, does it fit what you would think is beautiful?” She amended toward the end, remembering how she had liked the Barrens.

Chai was certainly focused. A grin turned up the corner of Secret's mouth. "I don't think beauty exists. Not anymore. This place however, is comfortable. It's simple. I like it." That was true, in a way. Secret saw something else in the landscape around, something that no word could really surprise. It felt old. It didn't feel like home, but Secret was sure she could make a home here. Observing the way the grass was changing shades and how the temperature had cooled, Secret wondered how so much time had passed. Summer had passed already, fall come to replace it in the blink of an eye. At least it seemed that way to her.

Secret's temporary traveling companion was full of life, and still rather young. Excited seemed to be her permanent mood, but perhaps that was simply because she wanted to know whether Secret liked the place. Either way, it made the difference between the two wolves all the more apparent. Secret wasn't particularly fond of being reminded, but today she felt her bitterness best contained. Chai would find out soon enough what it was like to grow old, although it was unlikely she would forget her entire life as soon as Secret had. No one she had met knew what might be a cause for the rapid memory loss might be caused by, although plenty of them had had theory's.

Secret chose to ignore all the reasons why she might have lost all her memories. It didn't really matter why, it only mattered that they were gone. She might have been able to find out some of the truth if she had stayed where she was when she lost them, but she did know that she felt compelled to travel ever since her memories faded, and she hadn't stayed long in any place so far.

She turned her head from the scenery around her and looked at Chai. "What about you? Do you find this place beautiful?"

Chai;

Her answer surprised her, no beauty? She blinked down at Secret thoughtfully. This female seemed to be practical, which she guessed attributed to her age…? She wasn’t sure how one could not see the beauty in the world, everything had some beauty in it – whether topical or something within. Perhaps, she continued to wonder, it was that she could not remember what she had thought was beautiful… so it was easier to think it all rather plain. She tore her gaze away from the female, a light smile playing at her own lips now as her eyes ate up the scenery in front of her.

She heard Secret’s question and she made a final sweep of the land in front of them with her purple gaze.

“Yes, well, far better than that retched barren land we travelled from. I think so any way… I find beauty in life, and there was not much life in anything barren.”

She shrugged, turning to Secret and slowly coming down from her perch.

“I choose to live spontaneously, I think it’s the best way to live without expectations – that way you’re never disappointed.”

A wide grin adorned her muzzle now, her tongue lolling. She trotted over to where the rock she had been standing on hovered a little over the ground – as the point of the rock shot up diagonally from the land. She tested the dirt at the bast, making a few digging movements with her claws. Do-able.

“So, I was thinking of digging you a den somewhere like this – where a rock can protect most of the den in case of snow or rain. But, maybe one with more bushes around it – so it’s not easily spotted from afar.” She turned back to Secret with a tilt to her head, to see what she thought of her plan.

So the other female found beauty in life. A quote she had heard from somewhere popped into thought. "I was told that if you find beauty in life you must also find beauty in death. I don't remember who told me that, but I think I agree with them. As for the barrens, I think that there was more there than what you were seeing. I believe that someone also once told me that where deserts lie there were once great lakes and ponds. Maybe, a long time ago, that barren land was once something else, teeming with life. That's how I like to think about it. It's never about what something is, it's always about what something was."

Then Chai mentioned how she liked to live. Secret couldn't really say how she lived. She didn't know how to explain it. Some would call it nomadic, some reckless, some tiring, others might even describe it as fun. Secret didn't want to hassle with a label so she simply called it nothing. "It is a good concept- living spontaneously. I just don't think any one wolf can ever actually pull it off completely. Disappointment will always find a way to seep around the cracks. Still, a very good way to live."

She shook her head and hoped that Chai didn't mention the subject again. Something about what she had said didn't ring true deep inside, and she didn't want to know why. She focused on what Chai was doing- she had obviously been multitasking while she was talking. Digging, apparently. "I think its an excellent idea. The harder to see, the better."
