((Heyo boys and girls, love and miss ya all, sorry for the long waits for my replies, once I start figuring out this college thing I hope to stay on top of them better. Anywho, Venus is claiming her adulthood in Midnight Silence with a lovely death, yeah, it's kind of a cheat but...eh what the heck. koolpup, if you still wanted to have Eclipse find Fierfly's beheaded corpse, go ahead and post a short response, but otherwise, I plan for this thread to be closed with this one post. Oh, and uh, I guess this is pretty violent and graphic, so if you don't handle that sort of thing well, don't read.))
Fierfly:
Mysti - she wished her a safe journey and somewhere warm and safe to raise her pups. To think she was so close to giving up, so close to letting go of life and all it had taken to help her move on was a similarly wounded heart who had known the pain she had. One paw in front of another, she was going to find Eclipse, say she was sorry - she tripped on a small stone. Her emaciated body fell forward and slammed to the ground with what little weight it had left. The rabbit Mysti's mate had caught had certainly helped, but she'd need more nourishment than that to keep going. And she just had to keep going, she couldn't give up again. She had to keep going...
Black haze began crowding her vision, maybe she just needed sleep. Sleep, rest, recharge. She hadn't been eating or resting properly for some time now, she had hardly even been walking, she wasn't used to the exertion. Maybe she just needed to sleep...
Venus:
The female she'd been stalking tripped right over her own paws. She was beyond weak, it wasn't the victory she'd imagined: but it was a sure victory at least. It would have been more impressive to take a male's skull, or at least the one of a healthy wolf, but no one said a wolf was any less for hunting a sick or maimed elk or deer rather than a full one: it was a mark of an intelligent hunter - mark the prey you could get. Too high an expectation was foolhardy at best and suicide at the worst. Besides, it's not like it was a complete forfeit, it was still a wolf and she was at least two years older than Venus. She should have known better than to be crossing the Hunting Plains dry, hungry and tired with no one to protect her from strangers.
And Venus had no one to protect her from herself.
She came through the tall grass urgently. "Are you alright?" she leaped to the female's side in a flawless act of concern - she'd had to be quite an actress growing up. "You're sick," she put her chin against the female's nose to be sure - no, there was no fever, and she didn't smell of sickness, she was only malnourished and tired. "You can't fall asleep, here, there's got to be something for you to eat around here." she whirled around and began "looking" about for some prey. Truthfully, she'd already found some.
Fierfly:
So tired...just a few minutes...then she'd find food and water. A shadow stepped over to her and a faint voice of concern reached her ears. She forced her eyes open and to focus for just a few minutes more. Young, pretty, blue-eyed like her. "W-what?"
"Shh, don't try to speak," the female insisted, "Don't sleep, just rest here, I'll get you something to eat."
"Th-thank,"
"Sh." Firmly, professionally, "I'll be back in a moment."
"Th-" the words couldn't quite make it past her lips, she couldn't quite get them out the way she wanted them to sound. She'd have to work on that. She needed to at least say 'thank-you'.
Venus
A titmouse thought there was enough cover in the grass for it to dart about. She swiftly ended its life and placed the fresh kill before the female's nose. Her eyes were closed again. Killing in sleep was no fair, she had to be awake and have a fair chance to at least try to run before Venus could really say she'd properly killed her. Just like with hunting prey to be eaten, the sport only counted if the odds were fair for hunter and hunted. Let it never be said that Venus was a cheater. "Please, please eat." she whimpered, sitting back, then opening the wolf's mouth for her and pushing the prey even closer to her lips. The smell and taste would wake her up. It was only fair play.
Fierfly
Meat was touching her tongue. She couldn't register anything but that. The rabbit had only been yesterday, but it might have been a year ago. Her eyes flew open and like some primal animal, she tore into the meat. Meat, life, nourishment, energy to find Eclipse. Eclipse...
Thank-you, she needed to say thank-you. She really hadn't gotten the look at her rescuer that she'd wanted - only had a vague sense that she was young and pretty. She looked up, twitching and pursing her lips to try and express her grattitude, but the expression that was waiting for her put the thought to rest before it could fully surface.
Venus:
"I'm going to kill you now." she informed her prey briskly, "I suggest you at least try to run."
Fierfly:
Time froze. She felt her tired heart quicken and her muscles constrict. Why was her expression suddenly so dark? She'd been so concerned just a moment before. She was trying to say 'thank-you', she really was. She'd get the words out in a moment -
"I'm going to kill you now."[/i]
Kill her? But she'd just fed her. Just given her the strength to keep going. She wouldn't, no one would... but...
She sat there for several minutes, unsure of whether or not she'd hallucinated the statement. This...this didn't quite feel right. Maybe she was imagining it all. It was all part of her dream. She'd just needed sleep. She shook herself over and looked past the mirage of the young she-wolf off in the direction she'd seen Eclipse walk off in when he'd left. She needed to keep going, the sleep had helped, now she just needed to keep going.
She was hardly aware of the oversized fangs ripping through the soft flesh of her throat and the warm moist blood spilling down the front of her. It was some hazy, meaningless blur - sitting down - almost collapsing from surprise and as her life blood spilled out of her. She did faintly remember looking at the source of the red stain in disbelief. The she-wolf. Why? She didn't realize she was dying until the very moment it was happening, right before the she-wolf descended for the finishing blow. This was it. Somehow...she was...done.
And the last thought she had was that she had never even told Mysti or Eclipse or even her parents 'goodbye'.
Venus:
There, that was done. Done enough at any rate. The head was wholly off now and the eyes were out. The tongue too, it was so hard to take a decapitated head seriously with the tongue flopping out foolishly. But it was done. It really had been a sort of merciful death, she was weak and near death anyway, she'd just hurried the process along. It hadn't been the chase she'd been looking forward to, but at least she hadn't had to be cute and flirty to draw a male in for the kill. The female must have been delusional, that's why she hadn't run. Anyone else with any sense at all in their heads would have begun running. She'd only barely started to walk and clearly wasn't speeding up. Well, then she was going to die if that's what she wanted.
She picked up the head by an ear and began loping back to Midnight Silence. If she hurried, she'd be back well in time for sunset and even to get her mark at moonrise.
