And So The Sun Rises

A red and green figure trotted through the snow and into the open border. The figure stood tall and proud like the majestic wolf he was. Along side him stood his mate and alphess as well as his brother and Beta Draga along with his mate. The wolves had come to claim this land as their own and establish their pack boundaries. Luzaro had done it, he had finally found a place to call home for both himself, his pack, and his newly forming family. The territory would do nicely for the group of wolves and it was far better than the camp they had set up at Amoux Creek back in the spring. Luzaro put his muzzle to the sky and howled loud to let all know that Rising Sol had claimed Sapling Grove as their new home.

Another wolf had trotted in alongside the brute that now stood tall to claim this place as his home. This wolf had black stripes that matched the previous wolf but lately, the similarities stopped there. This wolf was called Draga, the beta of the Rising Sol pack and he was not currently pleased. Only a day or two ago, his brother had come to him to announce he had mated with a subordinate in their pack named Kivah who Draga had already disliked from the beginning. Not only had he mated with her, but Luzaro had appointed the she wolf the new Alphess of the pack and wanted to leave their camp at Amoux Creek immediately to claim territory even though it was the middle of winter. Draga had been so outraged by recent events he hadn't talked to his brother until this very moment in time. Without really speaking to him, Draga joined in the howl and waited for his mate Webber to join his side.

ooc: I'm so tired so sorry for poopy post guys lol. I wanted to hurry up and get the territory claimed since a lot of packs have been starting lately so I had to do kind of a jump ahead. To get everyone up to speed: Luzaro and Kivah are now mates and Kivah is the alphess. Also, Aspen's character Liath has joined with Rising Sol.

The orange and purple female strode along regally alongside her newly acquired mate. She held her head high, proud to be the alpha of this newly risen pack and reveling in the fact that she had finally achieved the position of power she deserved. Kivah and Luzaro had announced their mateship to the pack only a short while ago but no one had come forward to oppose it...yet. Kivah told her new subordinates they could come to her with any questions or issues but she had also given them all an icy glare at the end of her statement letting them know it would not be a pleasant experience. Luzaro was wrapped around her paw tightly and she had complete control of him, the pack was now hers to run. Of course there was just one thorn in her side...

Draga had not been happy about his brother's new mate and it was no secret to any of the pack members that he had had an issue with Kivah from the beginning but Luzaro would not budge on his decision to make her Alphess. Kivah joined in with Luzaro's howl adding her own soprano tone to the mix and encouraging the others to howl as well. This day was one of triumph for the Rising Sol pack.

It wasn't long before a black and gray wolf appeared at the call of his alphas. His black muzzle was dripping wet because he had been drinking deeply from a pool of melted snow since he seemed drained from the trek to the forest from their base camp at the creek. The male had been following along in the pawprints of the alphas and the betas and listening to the incessant chatter of Spirit, the pink wolf in the pack. She was nice and meant well but Cyrus was the last wolf she should have been talking to. He was a total grump and often said mean things to Spirit that would sting any other wolf but seemed to not affect her at all. The wolf stood on the other side of Kivah and also lifted his head to howl, waiting for Spirit and the rest of the pack to join in.

Spirit

    A pink wolf with green stripes and blue eyes joined the odd bunch of wolves howling at the sky. She wanted to greet everyone and ask a million questions, but they were busy calling the rest of the group. Not wanting to miss out on the fun, Spirit lifted her head and made short spurts of high pitched howls that helped to carry the sound. She shook her head to rid the thought and continued to make a barkish howl, wondering how long it would take for the others to get there.

Webber loped up quickly, but stayed a distance from Kivah. She wasn't sure exactly what Draga had picked up about her, but if it upset her happy and friendly mate, she wasn't going to make any attempts to befriend the new alphess. She was just going to do what was needed of her. besides, she held a belief that if something really was off, it would get corrected soon.

She looked for Draga but not for too long before she raised her maw in a howl too.

Liath

I slowly padded into the forest that would soon be my new home and saw the other wolves there. I hadn't actually met any of my packmates yet but had run into the alphas, Luzaro and Kivah, only a few days ago. They seemed like a strong couple and I expected the same from their pack but I would have to see for myself. I told the couple that I would assist them in settling their new pack for they were about to claim an empty territory but I also made it clear I would not stay if I felt the pack wasn't right for me. They had been kind enough to allow this.

It looked like I was the last to arrive and I wondered what the other wolves would think of me. My gray fur was shaggy and thick for the winter and I knew I looked rough around the edges as most loners did, but I also knew that wolves should be judged by their merit not their looks. If any of these wolves gave me a chance I was sure I'd be able to contribute to the pack's cause. I saw a pink female, which I found very odd looking but then again the mountain seemed to be home to many odd colored wolves. In fact, I had found Kivah's appearance to be strange when I'd first seen her as well. There was a black and gray male, a red male that looked similar to Luzaro, and a blue female with an interesting pattern that looked like spider webs. They all seemed nice enough and I found myself looking forward to helping them. I raised my head and howled with my new pack.

Eternal Warrior

The red and green wolf felt a surge of energy course through him when he heard the howls of his fellow packmates joining in with his voice. There was something powerful in the way they had all come together to claim this territory. Finally he stopped howling and lapped at some snow that had melted in a puddle around his paws to regain his voice. He then looked up and around at the familiar faces surrounding him. "Well done!" he exclaimed happily. "We are now officially a pack! I am proud to call Sapling Grove home and to call you my packmates. I know the journey has been long and you all want to explore the territory but there is one more thing that needs to be addressed." Luzaro paused for a moment, trying to think of the best way to handle what he needed to say next. "All of you bring different skills and attributes to Rising Sol and I think its high time we assigned rank to all of you. Obviously Kivah and are are the alphas of the pack while Webber and Draga are the betas. However, we also need a wolf in the Gamma position and we need hunters, warriors, guards, perhaps even a nanny. I would like all of you to come forth and tell me what position you feel you're best qualified for." Luzaro's green eyes looked out at his pack expectantly.

Draga howled loud and proud along with his fellow packmates. It made his heart swell with happiness when he could hear each individual's voice coming together to produce a beautiful song. This was his family now and as he was howling, he glanced at Webber. It seemed like such a long time ago now that they had lived together in that awful pack that tortured them and kept them apart but now they were free to love each other openly. The red wolf then glanced over at his brother who was howling loudest of all and was glad he had made the decision to follow him here. Draga felt he was learning a lot about leadership and being a good beta wolf from Luzaro and was eternally grateful for Luzaro's bravery but...he was still nervous about Kivah.

Finally the howling came to an end and Draga exhaled a breath of air before nuzzling Webber affectionately. He listened and nodded as Luzaro began to speak. "Luzaro, please allow me to speak with our subordinates about rank. I have spent time with each wolf and I know where their strengths lie." Draga looked at Luzaro before his brother nodded approvingly at him. So it was settled that the pack members needed to address Draga when speaking of ranks. Luzaro and Kivah were both more concerned with each other lately than with their packmates. The only wolf Draga would not be able to approve rank for was Liath but he figured when it came his turn that Luzaro would speak up on his behalf. "Its settled then. Everyone come to me and state the rank they wish to have and I will approve or disapprove it based on what I've seen of your skill sets so far." Draga was proud of this pack and his subordinates. He waited patiently for the first wolf to come forward.

I leaped over a log with a very strong scent of wolf. Good, I want to be noticed don't I. I need a pack to take care of me. I need a pack that I can protect and be loyal to. I sigh and slow down as I hear wolves in the distance. I sniff a tall oak and smell the recent scent of wolves. I grin and trot forward. Then I see them. I hope they've seen me. I sit down by a tree and wait.

Kivah sat next to her mate and took a few deep breaths, for some reason she had been feeling sharp stomach pains. It seemed to have started right after the night she had spent with Luzaro in the meadow. The orange and purple wolf clenched her jaw tight to grit through the pain and it soon passed. She exhaled and came back to focus, not really having heard the first part of what Luzaro said. Kivah's orange ear perked forward when she heard a wolf approaching. The orange she wolf stood up and approached the newcomer that had respected the newly formed borders. "You there, what are you called? Why have you come here?" Kivah lifted her tail high in the air to show her dominance.

Cyrus let his howl slowly fade away as the rest of the pack did the same. The wolf felt empowered to be part of this new pack and let the excitement flow through his veins. It was all Cyrus could do to keep from barking like a little, excited pup and before he really knew what he was doing, he tackled Spirit playfully. "We did it! We finally have a territory to call our own!" Cyrus laughed deeply but then quickly jumped back, suddenly embarrassed by his playful behavior. "Er...sorry..." Cyrus said, averting his red eyes and hoping Spirit didn't think he was totally insane.

The gray and black wolf stood at attention when his alpha began addressing the rest of the pack. Cyrus noticed that Kivah had wandered away but didn't really pay much attention to it. Finally the wolf stepped forward "Draga." he said, bowing his head slightly. "I have been fighting my whole life and I think I would be a great warrior." As if to add to this belief, Cyrus puffed out his chest proudly. "If you need me to, I will fight and who you my skills."

Spirit

    The howls faded and Spirit let her voice sink in disappointment. As she opened her eyes and let her head drop, she looked around at the other wolves. The alphas, Luzaro and Kivah. The betas, Draga and Webber. The rest of the group consisted of Cyrus, Liath, and herself. An unfamiliar wolf stood a little ways away. Kivah went to talk to the wolf while Luzaro continued the meeting and Draga continued the meeting. She sat, bouncing in anticipation, when she was crushed by a giant ball of fur. Cyrus had tackled her in excitement. Spirit returned the playfulness by batting him in the head a little. "Yeah!" She wanted to wrestle a little more, but Cyrus immediately got off in embarrassment. Spirit frowned sadly. He then approached Draga, saying he wanted to be a warrior. 

    Spirit watched the exchange for a few seconds before following close behind Cyrus. The movement of her tail could create a wind storm. She stood to Cyrus's right and looked Draga in the eyes. Her head dipped and she spoke, but her respect might not have come through her cheerful tone. "I wanna be a hunter or a nanny! I can't quite decide. I love pups and I think I would be great with them, but I don't wanna be stuck in camp all day so I wanna be a hunter. I really want your opinion because I can't decide for myself. It's just such a hard choice! I mean, do I choose nanny and be stuck in the camp, or choose hunter and never get to play with the pups?! It's such a hard decision!" Spirit squinted her eyes close in frustration.

Shiver: I didn't lower my tail or my ears, instead I said: "Greetings, my name is Shiver." I pause and dip my head so she wouldn't think I was hostile. "I have traveled far to reach this pack. Please, take me to your Alpha." I stare unblinkingly into the wolf's eyes. I may not have pretty colors, but I do have quite an attitude.

The orange and purple she wolf narrowed her eyes at the newcomer, giving her a once over. The newcomer didn't seem hostile or overbearing which was appropriate but she wasn't exactly respectful either. In any other circumstances, Kivah probably would've attacked right then and there to quickly reprimand such behavior but the other packmembers were still unaware of her true intentions and she had to keep up the kindly, good natured facade for just a little while longer. Besides, her stomach was still hurting a bit so an attack would have been unwise.

"Hello Shiver, my name is Kivah and I am the alphess of this pack." Kivah raised her head high and looked down upon Shiver with her lavender colored eyes. She then looked back to the gathering of wolves behind her and decided that this area was a bit crowded to be speaking of possible pack membership so she decided it would be best to go a little further down the border. "Shiver if you need to speak to me, I must ask that we move our meeting elsewhere. My pack is currently in the process of assigning ranks and this area has become crowded and loud. Follow me a little ways down the border." The orange she wolf then loped off a ways stopping once to see if the newcomer was following.

Liath

So we were to be given rank assignments then? That made me happy as I felt like I had more of a purpose when I was assigned a rank with specific duties. I was about to step forward to speak with Luzaro when the red wolf that had been standing near him began to speak. I listened intently and realized that our beta was Luzaro's brother. Interesting development in my opinion. What was even more fascinating was his high level of interest in the rest of the pack members. I had been around long enough to know that this was a particular skill that was attributed to many leadership positions so I was not shocked he had been chosen to be beta. However, there was one wolf he didn't know personally and that was me.

I stepped forward after the black and white male and the pink female had spoken and bowed my head. "Hello, my name is Liath. I actually met with Luzaro while the whole pack was on their way here. I know that I'm the newest member here but I think my skills could be put to use in a warrior or hunter role. Whichever you feel is more in demand I will take." I bowed in respect to Draga and waited for his answer.

Eternal Warrior

After quitting the presence of the alphess Kivah and the silvery she-wolf she had been talking to, Sonora followed the nearby, but muffled, murmur of voices deeper into her new pack's territory. Very soon she she saw a flash of colorful fur through the brush and then found herself standing among her new packmates, her brown fur showing dark against the white snow. There were seven in the group, not including Kivah, Shiver or Sonora, so the pack was of a very good size. The she-wolf settled down on the edge of the group to watch the proceedings. It seemed that the alpha male was in the process of assigning ranks to the others. As Sonora had already been approved as a warrior by Kivah, she decided to remain in the background unless the alpha decided to call her forward. Instead she looked around her, sizing up her new packmates, wondering which of them would become her friends, sparring partners, rivals, or perhaps even something more intimate.
