A black and white wolf trotted into the large, horseshoe shaped area and beheld the many stumps arranged there. This was the perfect meeting spot for her pack in their new territory. Ilana hopped onto the biggest stump that was situated right in the middle of the horseshoe and threw her black head to the skies and howled loudly for her pack to meet her. The pack had grown quite large in the past few moons and they had outgrown the Longrass territory. Ilana had sent her scout, Raid, out to the north to try and look for new territory and he had done well, finding the Hidden Glade.
It was perfect, it was hidden from many of the other wolves in a deep grassy knoll. They did not have to share borders with any other packs and the land was so much larger than her previous territory - it would be a perfect home. Ilana sat down and made herself comfortable on the stump. Her large, bushy tail wrapped around her dainty paws as she waited for the rest of her pack to show up.
A while wolf followed closely behind Ilana that shared certain aspects as the alphess. Although this wolf seemed almost the opposite of Ilana in appearance, where Ilana was black, this wolf was white - she had the same purple eyes and the same authoritative stance. This wolf was Portia, Ilana's daughter and hand picked heiress to the throne. Portia looked around in awe at the new territory and trotted up to her mother, taking a seat to the left of Ilana. Portia sat up straight and kept her posture regal because she was now Dark Donoma royalty.
Silver eyes observed the horseshoe shaped area with mild contempt. This was not the home she was born in, lived in, and grown up in. This was some place new and Jaavan hated change. Sure the territory was larger, but it wasn't hers. She didn't have a den all to herself here, she didn't have fond memories like she had made in the Lilly Warren back home. Jaavan had outright protested the move to her mother only to be severely punished for it. She had taken the beating crouched in a ball of red fur but one of her silver eyes was almost swollen shut. Jaavan knew that the pack was getting bigger and needed to expand into a new territory, but she had already made up her mind to hate this place. She slowly padded over to the stump next to Portia before climbing up on top of it. Jaavan sat with her shoulders hunched and her black chin jutting out in defiance. Her mother may have forced them to move, but she didn't have to like it.

In response to the howl from her newly found leader, the wolf known as Storm let out a fierce howl back, she was not too near to the location of Ilana's howl, and it would take her some time to make passage to the glade. "Why did I agree to this.. A meeting already?! And I barely even got to see the other densite yet.." she growled lowly as she sarted to pad her way in Ilana's direction. After a few moments, monster orange eyes poked through the bushes, staring out at Ilana and the other two wolves, whom she had not been acquainted with. Storm padded into view an almost inaudible growl in the back of her throat as she approached. The large she-wolf padded into the horseshoe like pattern of stumps, before slowly laying her self down, keeping her head and chest up off of the ground as she watched Ilana, Portia, and Jaavan, studying each one more curiously than the next, though her eyes showed of anger as always. Especially her right eye, permanently scarred with one large red scar across it, the iris half broken partially in half to add to her scowl. After awhile she took her eyes off of the wolves before her and began to scan the area around her.

The tawny colored wolf took his time trotting into the amphitheater. It was a large area and Raid was glad he had found the territory this past spring. When Ilana had come to him and asked him to scout out a new location for the pack to live in, he had been flattered and didn't want to let her down. He had never been trusted with any kind of responsibility before and he now felt he hadn't disappointed. Ilana was proud of him and showed it in her own way. Which was usually by not severely abusing him as often.
Raid's mahogany colored eyes scanned the amphitheater and he saw he was the fourth one there of the small pack. He saw Ilana and her two daughters Jaavan and Portia. He briefly wondered where Ilana's other two offspring were but he knew, as the rest of the pack, that Anneliese never showed up to pack meetings but it was odd that Cress was not there yet. As a matter of fact, Raid wondered how it was that Rhett hadn't showed up either. Before he could ponder this further, he saw a black wolf covered in scars with angry, orange eyes. Raid hadn't met her yet but she looked pretty lethal. Raid was definitely not brave but he thought maybe it'd be safe to talk to the she wolf since they were now pack members. He slowly padded closer and sat down next to the she wolf but was still far enough away that if she tried to spring a sneak attack on him he'd be able to bolt. "I'm Raid." he said simply to her.

ooc: I've got Aspen committed to a different thread right now so I can't bring her in but I have Bane, Axel and Tye Bane It had been an exhausting journey to the Hidden Glade all the way from Longrass and my paws were killing me, not to mention my fangs as well. Carrying the little wriggling ball of fur was such a pain. I don't know how females do it. The black and blue mass of fur in my mouth was yipping and squirming so I finally set him down. I had decided to name my son Tye and after I let him down I licked his head and scruff to get any excess spit or grass off of him. If he was going to be my protege he had to look presentable. We had made it to the amphitheater with my nephew Axel in tow. He did not seemed too thrilled to come here with me and his cousin but I had no sympathy since my sister expected me to pupsit her son as well as my own. Axel wasn't really a pup anymore, he had already reached a full rotation of seasons but Aspen babied him and didn't want him ever to be left alone. I guess she felt that she had to be over protective after being abandoned by her mate and losing her daughter all in one winter. I nudged Axel and pointed my snout towards Ilana and told him to bow. I too bowed and said to Tye "You must bow to your alphas son. To show disrespect in this pack is to die." The little blue ball yipped and sat comfortably between my front legs. For now I let him enjoy his comfort because it would not last forever. A Streak Of Silver ********** Axel This was so stupid...I didn't know why we had to move to this new territory. What was wrong with the old one? I didn't bother asking the adults why we had come here but when my uncle, cousin, and I finally reached the amphitheater I started to see why this had been chosen as our new home. It was lush and spacious with thick, tall grasses growing all around. We were still in the grass lands but this territory would be far more suitable than Longrass. I inhaled the fresh air and slowly decided that this place wasn't as horrendous as I had thought originally. I gave a small and begrudging bow to Alphess Ilana at Bane's prompting. I hated bowing to anyone and it was especially embarrassing because Jaavan was watching. I couldn't even look at her so I drooped my head instead and mumbled some annoyances under my breath. My ears perked forward when I saw Raid and also noticed he was with a new she wolf. She looked just as mean as Ilana so I figured she must be a new recruit. I didn't bother introducing myself although it was tempting to barge over and interrupt whatever sad pick up line Raid was throwing at her. No, for now I would simply tune out the adults and stare at Jaavan longingly. Turquoise View

Storm yawned bored-like as she waited for other wolves to show themselves, afterall she assumed she wasn't the only one in the pack that Ilana had invited her to. Soon her mind was answered as the sound of Raid's pawsteps made their way into the amphitheater. She turned her head to stare at him, her orange and irate eyes staring him down like daggers as she observed him, looking at his tawny colored fur, examining his build, and finally finishing on his mahogany eyes. Instinctively she scoffed a bit as her head turned away to look around, spotting two more wolves step into view, one with a pup in his mouth, making the total of four to add if she counted Raid.
First Storm examined the ball of fluff hanging from the first male who stepped into view after Raid. The little black and blue thing would've been kind of cute, if Storm had a care to give. She then looked to its current protector, the adult of the three who stepped up through the grass. Storm gave him a quick glance over before turning her eyes to Axel, just as Raid spoke to her and announced his name. She growled lightly in the back of her throat as she finished scanning Axel for a second, turning her head back to Raid. "Storm." she barked back to Raid as the three came closer and each bowed to Ilana and her daughters. Storm turned to see them do this, rolling her eyes a bit as she refocused her eyes on the pack leader, remaining in her lying down position, uninterested in a fight at the moment.

Rhett sauntered out from the treeline, assessing the wolves that had already gathered at clearing. There were a few he didn't know - recruits, maybe? He scoffed inwardly, surprised that Ilana would have let such rabble into their ranks. They needed bodies, though, and Rhett wouldn't complain as long as they knew their place.
He took his place beside Ilana - this was a formal meeting, after all, and he would be damned if this wasn't his pack as much as it was hers. His posture was stiff and rigid, the aftereffects of the sheer terror of his visit to Geist, damnable witch that she was. It had been awhile, but he was still on edge - the glowing power mark on his solar plexus didn't help, either. It was a weak glow, but he wouldn't fool himself into thinking Ilana and his children wouldn't notice - after all, there was nothing they could do about it now, he thought sardonically.
At a glance he could tell that his idiot son was not present; not surprising, given his recent embarrassment at the hand of Ilana's favored daughter. Let him cower - he was unfit for leadership, being bested by Portia. Not that he preferred Portia any more - she was stunningly similar to Ilana, and the White Wolves only knew how much resentment lay between them. He huffed. He'd have his revenge - at a terrible price. Geist had seen to that, of course. He'd just have to be patient.

Aspen
I sauntered into the Amphitheater hoping the alphas wouldn't notice I was late. I spotted my son and brother along with the little fluff ball Bane claimed was his son, and decided to take a seat by them. My green eyes did not make contact with Ilana or Rhett but I did give a bow to be respectful and then sat down next to Axel.

Ilana looked out at her pack as they slowly assembled. It had been almost two full season rotations since she and Rhett had formed Dark Donoma and she was quite satsified with the growth of the small pack. Finally, after the rest of the pack arrived and Aspen slithered in slowly, Ilana knew it was time to speak to her pack. "Hello my minions." she began with a large, toothy smile. "As you obviously know, our numbers have increased and we had recently outgrown our home in Longrass. You may all thank Raid for scouting out this new territory for us." Ilana paused for a moment before looking to Raid but said nothing more about him. "Part of the reason I have called you here, is to welcome you to your new home. It is far larger and therefore less cramped. However, due to our increased numbers Rhett and I need to appoint a Beta wolf." Ilana's purple eyes slid slowly over to Rhett who was seated next to her. She had not discussed this decision with him but sh hardly felt it necessary. Rhett definitely enjoyed the perks of being an alpha but he was far from anything that could be considered a leader. For now Ilana decided to make it appear that Rhett was as much a part of this decision as she, even though that was far from the truth. "Any wolf who deem themselves worthy of this position must step forward." Ilana finished, looking out at the crowd expectantly.
Portia sat quietly, observing all of the pack members as they arrived. She noticed with some annoyance that Aspen was late, and secretly hoped her mother would punish her for it. She also noticed that Axel was giving Jaavan a very strange glance and that Bane had showed up with a pup. When had that happened? Who was the pup's mother? Portia made a mental note to approach Bane and demand an answer. She did not have long to ponder this when her mother began speaking. Portia listened intently and her purple eyes widened at the prospect of a new Beta. How could her mother do this?! Portia was to be second in command until her mother and father finally passed then she would take over as alpha. Portia could feel the all too familiar sensation of a heated bile that seemed to spread throughout her body. The white she wolf had to work hard to keep the rage in check as she glared angrily at her parents.
Jaavan sat next to her sister and began daydreaming about how nice her winter coat would look when the weather started to get cooler. She enjoyed the winter months and looked forward to her fur becoming full and luscious again, not like the scraggly, thin coat she sported in summer. Her thoughts were briefly interrupted as her silver eye caught the turquoise eye of Axel, the pack mate closest to her age other than her siblings. She smiled seductively at the young male before slowly wagging her tail and winking at him. Perhaps Axel could be her new play thing. Again, Jaavan's thoughts were interrupted as her ears caught her mother's words. So Dark Donoma was finally appointing a second in command. Jaavan hardly cared, as daughter to the alphas she had almost total immunity and maybe it would be fun to watch wolves try to tear out each other's throats to win the title. At least that was what the young wolf assumed her parents had in mind for those who stepped up for the beta position. Jaavan only wished that Cress and Anneliese were here to witness this debacle but only because she knew it would anger them both.

Storm's eyes snapped to Ilana as she began to speak, ignoring the wolves around her. The female brute growled under her breath as she listened, quickly getting intrigued as Ilana announced that there would be a Beta wolf to the pack. Battle-scarred female narrowed her eyes and began to think. She thought she had a good chance that she might be picked, but also had an unsure feel, knowing she had only recently joined the pack, and was not familiar with any of the wolves around her, except Ilana.
Slowly but surely, Storm raised herself up out of her laying position, standing herself up on all four paws. Her eyes dashed between the wolves sitting upon the stumps above everyone else. Storm stepped herself forward presenting herself before the rest of the pack, deciding if anything, she would at least break the ice for others to step forward. The angry expression in her eyes seemed to remain, staying fierce as she kept her eyes forward. The she-wolf slowly sat herself back on her haunches, waiting to see if any stepped up with her, or if she would be the lone wolf.

Raid was about to say something else to Storm, feeling a strange desire to strike up a conversation with her, when his alphas began to speak. The tawny wolf shut his mouth and listened intently to Ilana's words. So the pack was in need of a beta. He wasn't surprised, after all their numbers had increased quite a bit since his joining and it seemed only appropriate that a beta wolf be appointed to help things go a little smoother. Initially, Raid wasn't very interested in the prospect of adding even more responsibility to his plate seeing as he seemed to be the only scout in the pack, but then Storm stepped up. Raid felt a pang of respect for the battle scarred she wolf as she had the bravery to stand in front of the alphas and offer herself as beta female. She had only just joined and yet she was eager to let the alphas but her skills to use. Raid felt an overwhelming desire to impress Storm so he too stood up and walked towards the alphas. He stopped next to Storm and held his head high, hoping she would see him and respect his display of courage and merit.

Aspen
I didn't have much luck sneaking in unnoticed as I was sure pretty much all the wolves were aware I was late. I made a mental note to try and sneak out of here unseen to avoid any punishment from Ilana. I hushed my inner thoughts as I listened to Ilana speak. So the pack needed a beta did it? Well no thank you. I was not up for having the responsibilities that Betahood required, not to mention never getting to leave the packlands or have time to yourself. You would be constantly needed all the time. I had a hard enough time being a mother to Axel and he didn't even require that much attention anymore. No I think I would just have to sit this one out. However, I was interested to see a black female, probably a newcomer, stand up to volunteer. I was even more shocked when Raid stood up next to her. He certainly didn't strike me as a beta type but then again he had found this new territory of ours all on his own. Perhaps he would be a good candidate? What would Ilana and Rhett have them do to prove their worth? Hopefully something torturous. I decided to sit back and enjoy the show.

I thought my heart was going to leap out if its chest when I saw that Jaavan winked at me. She was so beautiful and it made my stomach flutter every time I saw her...soon I would tell her how I felt but it would have to be in private. My mind was already hatching a plan to get her alone when I heard the alpha's words. I didn't much care to watch the events play out that would decide our new Beta but I knew that sneaking away wasn't an option as Ilana always had her eyes on us. Instead I sat benignly next to my mother who was late, as usual, and thought about Jaavan.

To be totally honest, I hadn't realized that Aspen had wandered back into the territory until she was sitting next to me because I'd been paying close attention to the alphas. This was clearly something important for them to call us all here as a group. Then the news came-we were in need of a Beta wolf. Well I was definitely going to try out for the position, if any wolf had been loyal to Dark Donoma it was me. I picked Tye up by his scruff and set him at Aspen's paws "Watch him." I commanded. I stood and held my head high as I walked with purpose towards Raid and the black she wolf who called herself Storm. I said nothing as I looked up at my alphas.

ooc: Gyll I'm gonna skip over you to get this going x3 A cruel smile spread over Ilana's face as she saw her candidates for the Beta position step forward. First was Storm, a brand new pack member who had only just achieved status. Although Ilana had thus far only had one encounter with Storm, she saw something in the scarred, black wolf that she liked. No other wolf had been as direct with Ilana as Storm had been upon their first meeting and while she would have normally torn the throat out of a wolf with a combative personality, something about Storm made her resist the urge for blood. Ilana had excellent instincts and they told her that Storm would be a valuable pack member. Of course there was always the possibility of a challenge to Ilana's authority but the black Alphess was confident in her fighting abilities and was certain she could easily crush Storm if it became necessary. However, Storm was a wolf she'd rather have as an ally than an enemy.
Second to step up was Raid which Ilana was puzzled by. Ilana valued Raid in her pack because he was small, fast, and sneaky. He had the makings of a perfect scout or spy and it had been he who had scoped out the territories to find their new home in Hidden Glade but perhaps he wasn't happy with his rank? Upon closer inspection, Ilana could see a strange look in Raid's eye when he beheld Storm and she had to suppress a smug look from surfacing when she recognized it as the same look that Rhett gave to her. Raid was either trying to impress Storm or wanted the position merely to get close to her. That just wouldn't do for Ilana, her beta had to be totally committed to the position and she didn't want to give Raid up as a scout but for now, she would let him think he stood a chance.
And lastly there was Bane. One of the most loyal wolves at her disposal, Ilana also highly valued Bane. In fact, he had come to her and told her of his bastard pups and she had granted him permission to bring them back. She found it odd that only one survived, a small male by the name of Tye, but no matter, it was still another wolf in the ranks. Ilana believed Bane had the makings of a beta but she was also aware of his past as a loner and pack desserter. She didn't enjoy taking the risk of his desertion but, then again, he had been very loyal ever since his joining of the pack. He was worthy of a chance.
"I see. If there are no more wolves who wish to step forth, I will now test the candidates." Ilana paused for a moment to see if any more subordinates would come forth but none did. The alphess stepped from her stump gracefully and walked forward to face the three wolves. "I see we have two males and one female candidate. I could give the Beta female position to Storm by default but things here in Dark Donoma aren't that easy." Ilana's purple eyes glowed cruelly. "Storm you are a newcomer, practically still an outsider, but I sense something valuable within you. I can tell simply by looking at you that you are an experienced fighter and, although it is not the only trait needed for a Beta, combat is an essential skill. For this position, you will fight my daughter Portia." Ilana paused and looked at Bane and Raid, nodding at them to let them know soon they would have to fight as well. She then turned her gaze towards Portia and smiled, flashing her broken fang.
"Blah blah blah Beta blah blah blah skills" was the extent of what Jaavan was taking in from her mother's speech. She rarely paid attention to pack matters because she was too dense to see they concerned her directly. Jaavan continued looking at Axel and shifted her weight around to make her position sitting on the stump more aesthetically pleasing. She wrapped her soft, red tail around her paws and licked her muzzle. Axel sure was handsome with his coal black fur and coppery orange stripe. He looked almost as exotic as Jaavan...almost.
Jaavan was considering hopping down from the stump and strolling up to Axel to tease him a little bit but then her ears pricked forward at something Ilana had said. She turned her silver gaze towrads her mother for the first time since getting to the Amphitheater and listened as Storm was told to fight Portia. Jaavan felt like her stomach would drop out when she heard this because Jaavan had witnessed first hand the terror that was Portia when she was fighting. Jaavan knew Ilana was cruel but making Storm fight Portia seemed, at least to Jaavan, like a death sentence. She looked worriedly over at her sister.
Portia had been quietly stewing on her stump when the wolves who thought they were worthy of being betas came forward. She sneered at the panel before her. Storm, as the she wolf was called, was a complete an utter stranger to the pack so surely her mother wouldn't be stupid enough to even consider her. As for Raid, Portia knew his strength lay with his speed and cunning so his rank of scout fit better than would a rank of Beta. That left Bane who was the most able of the group but that, to Portia, didn't mean much. Portia had been training as an alphess under her mother and she knew Ilana would test the candidates brutally to tally their judgement and skill but what came next was a surprise even to her.
Portia was going to fight Storm. At first she could hardly believe her ears, how could Ilana expect Portia to fight this underling? She glared at her mother who only looked back with a smile. Portia wasn't one to disobey orders so she descended her stump and walked towards Storm. During this little walk, Portia was analyzing her enemy. Storm was older, stronger, and more experienced than Portia from the looks of it. However, Portia had been trained in special fighting techniques and she was quick...her only defect was the overpowering rage she would experience if pushed too far. But Storm didn't know that and sometimes this flaw could act as a strength. Portia took a fighting stance at Storm, lowered her head and growled. Not wanting to waste any time, and hoping to make quick work of this fight, Portia sprang into action. Portia jumped up and aimed to pounce on Storm's back and then use the momentum to both throw Storm to the ground and springboard off of her.

Storm watched the two males step up beside her. The first was Raid, the male who had stepped up to the bitter she-wolf at first and who she had shrugged off as soon as the beta positions were announced. The other was Bane, a larger male, who had brought a pup with him to the meeting. She scanned them over with her good eye, while the other just watched angrily as it normally did. Soon enough Ilana stepped down, causing Storm to snap her head back to the alphess as she opened her maw to speak to the three, and to the rest of the pack.
As she realized who she would have to fight to claim a spot at being a beta wolf, Storm couldn't help but smirk wickedly. "With pleasure. I just hope you don't mind your kin getting roughed up a bit, Ilana." she replied as Portia made her way down off of the stumps and towards Storm. Her scarred eye seemed more attentive this time to details as both of her eyes examined the wolf she would be fighting. "Good luck.. Portia. Was it?" she said as she stood herself up to her four paws.
The experienced fighter didn't bother lowering her head as she saw Portia get into a fighting stance. Storm had more of a relaxed stance, though she could be a brutal fighter, watching her begin a fight was something different as she normally waited to see what the other wolf would do. Soon she was answered as she saw Portia pounce up and at her. The larger she-wolf smirked as she dropped her stance backwards, shifting her weight to her haunches as she aimed to bite at Portia's chest and neck as she pounced at her.
