Kailypso:
What Kanga did for fun: hunted, started fights, bothered people. A snort of amusement that came out with that faint but real smirk went a little further than she'd intended and to the optimistic could have been deemed a half a laugh. She quickly quirked the corners of her mouth back down and cleared her facial expression for something more neutral. No, no she hadn't laughed, what on earth gave anyone that idea? Nope, not a laugh. He winked, not at all fooled by her charade of innocence, she felt herself bristle again. Drat that crooked smile and the roguish, teasing but truthful honesty in everything he said! Back to the list!
Yes, he did leave the territory often, it was a regular outing for him: he preferred to be away from the pack. For their sakes or for his she briefly wondered. His brother - Manaaki (they were a family for names weren't they? Not that she had any room to talk) usually roamed with him, romped, chased, hunted, kept his twin on his toes. Imagine if they didn't: if they laid around the territory and got fat and lazy...she firmly kept the corners of her mouth down, but the middle of it was weakening and slowly curving up, rising like a helium balloon - helplessly - as the funny picture he was giving her - on purpose may it be noted - begged for her to laugh. Her mouth was nearly in a pout before she pressed her lips into a thin line and turned away from the twinkly-eyed smile. She was not going to laugh this time, she'd make funny expressions and hold it in until her face was blue, she wasn't laughing.
He went on to say that he and his brother were usually together: interesting considering the edge that had been in his voice earlier. She knew that tone, she'd heard it from herself quite a lot growing up - that little wistful, lonely note: not bitter, not piteous like it was sometimes categorized...but just a little hurt. Maybe not angry or hateful to any person, but to the situation... Maybe Kanga didn't hate Manaaki, no, there was some sort of bond between brothers (she knew, she had two of her own) that kept them close, but that didn't make them a duo or team as Kanga chuckled at the popular assumption that the two always traveled together. Ah, an individual, how blind most wolves were...
Her ruff prickled again as the wind shifted and a crow cawed. A wolven scent was brought to her nose and Kanga turned his head toward the source of the sound and scent: she followed suit. A darkly coated she-wolf, brightly patterned was...in attack position...
Great
Kanga turned back to her and made the briefest eye-contact which she immediately broke off as she turned her body toward the intruder and got to her feet. All the fur along her spine and the mane of her neck stood out on end - it wasn't the silly, distracted, naive puffing that Kanga had seen - no - she could smell the malice in this wolf and now she was angry. Angry with herself mostly for not catching the intruder sooner, but she was angry. The irked fur stood out tall and wild, the coarse, spiky coat going almost stiff and the sun catching the fiery tints of copper in the raised portions of the pelt. Her golden eyes narrowed and her jaws clenched and lips curled back for a very good look at her no-longer-so-silly-and-innocent-looking teeth and a snarl rose up in her throat as she prepared to spring.
Kanga beat her to the punch, with one mighty leap he stood a pace or two in front of the intruder and he crouched down to meet her height. He too, raised his lips in a warning growl as he towered over her. What did she think she was doing? Kanga had teased her with the picture before, but actually seeing such a huge wolf in attack position you realized that it was beyond a fool's errand to poke him - you had to be just plain stupid, stupid and reckless and absolutely stupid to seriously entertain the notion of taking him on! His fur prickled to raise and the glinting daggers of his teeth were easily within snapping distance of the she-wolf. Kailypso wasn't the damsel-in-distress type, she didn't appreciate people trying to leap to her rescue, but Kanga had as much dibs on this one as she did - just strolling in and thinking you could pick a fight with anyone - especially either of them was arrogance that needed a lesson, and Kanga could be a very effective teacher if he chose to be. Still, she wasn't going to dignify the fact that she was late by strolling up now, also best not to give away her 'gimpy' shoulder (that adjective for it was going to stick, she could sense it), so she stood her ground, eyes narrowed into fire-golden daggers and teeth bared in a gruesome, warning scowl. "Walk carefully Stranger,"

Asrael;
She jumped, getting out of attack position as the giant - at least to Asrael - wolf towered over her. She didn't say anything, but slipped around the male and away from him. "Walk carefully, Stranger." Her ears flicked to see another female. "I'm careful." Asrael replied and walked farther from the wolves. She glared at the male wolf before grumbling something, shaking her fur. "I was simply preparing for the worst. I won't attack such wolves. Much to strong." Her voice was quiet, and it hinted at a smirk. She looked to the ground, pink eyes glittering with anticipation. She yawned, then licked her overly long chest fur.

Kanga;
Oh, he almost had her smiling now. He could see it. Sense it. And my oh my, how she was fighting it. Well, that made it all the more fun, didn't it? It was a challenge now, and challenges were one of Kanga's favourite things. Kailypso was so against lifting her lips in that familiar, easy expression, that she instead opted for a really terrible looking grimace. This was even more funny, and Kanga's eyes sparkled in a puplike fashion as he looked at her. She seemed to be getting flustered. But why? Kanga tail waved through the crystal-filled air behind him. He would crack her, yet. They would be friends. At least, it wouldn't be a bad thing if they decided to be friends. He certainly wasn't indifferent to her, but he supposed if she blew him off and left it wouldn't be the end of the world. The fact that he was even interested in continuing the conversation had to count for something. This had been happening more and more, recently. Perhaps he was going soft.
Ah, when he mentioned Manaaki she started analyzing again. He could see it in the way her eyes dropped down and away for a moment before coming back to meet him once more. Blast! Well, it was unfair! She kept avoiding questions about herself and asking him things, and then prying and guessing at the true meaning behind what he was saying. How dare somebody do that. He considered all of this while growling at the newcomer, but eventually ran out of things to consider and refocused on the present.
When Kailypso joined him in an attacking, offensive stance to meet the assuming wolf before them, Kanga almost yipped in glee. Look at the little firecracker! Why, he could squish her with one paw, and yet there she was going sharp and fuzzing all over with a vicious glint in her eye. Kanga had to hand it to her. If he had been a different wolf, Kailypso would have been the very picture of a wolf that didn't want to be messed with; as it was, however, Kanga was not a different wolf. Kanga was Kanga, and currently, Kanga wanted nothing more than to mess with her. Somehow, though, he contained himself (Manaaki be praised!). And sure, he could poke fun, but in all reality, Kailypso probably would have made even Kanga shy away if the brunt of her fury had been directed at him—he could just tell. As it was, however, the brunt of all of that was currently directed at someone else.
"Walk carefully, Stranger." ... ...
"Yea."
The female gave up on her previous position and slunk past Kanga in a would-be casual move. He showed a shadow of his own true intimidation, then, and his grin faded. His face looked blank, raw, and entirely unfamiliar without that smile, for it wasn't just stature that gave Kanga an edge. His eyes darkened as the female moved to get at his back. It didn't take a large wolf to win a fight if it had been trained and got behind their victim. Kanga moved more fluidly than a wolf of his size should be allowed, turning his body seamlessly to face the intruder with his teeth once more. The darkness faded, though, when he realized that she probably didn't know how such an action could be taken (not unlike how she chose to present herself). This was apparent as she began to yawn and groom herself infront of them.
What was with her? Kanga was so surprised that he straightened, hiding his teeth away once more and giving his head a confused shake. She was acting like it had been them that had inturupted her. He looked at Kailypso, wondering if she was as mystified as he was.

Kailypso:
Fire-golden eyes narrowed, teeth bared viciously and hackles raised as she prepared for the spring, Kailypso tensed as the female looked protestingly at Kanga and then casually slipped around and behind him. Kanga wisely turned with her, not trusting to let the would-be attacker out of his sight now that she'd suggested herself a threat. For all that foolish grinning and that unholy determination to make her crack a giggle, he was a smart wolf and she had to thank the Power for that. He looked absolutely terrible when he wanted to, the bright eyes darkened with warning and the way his teeth grinned together in that snarl would have quailed a less forward soul, but again...they must have been dealing with a pretty stupid wolf.
She'd hardly realized that she'd voiced the warning in her head until Kanga turned to give her a look (almost a hint of that grin) out of the corner of his eye while he watched the other female and simply agreed with her. The dark she-wolf looked mildly insulted with her warning: "I'm careful," she insisted as she slunk a little further away. Kailypso looked her up and down once more, she was no slightly built, feminine thing, she had substance and power, definitely could have handled herself in a fight against an ordinary wolf. She was being careful she said: that was what really put Kailypso on edge. "Simply preparing for the worst,"? Oh, no, no she wasn't. Not for the briefest second did the little yellow-nosed firebrand believe that. She could sit there and preen and primp all day and sing to the beauty of the day and that she had merely been passing through and she still wouldn't have believed it. You get into attack position unless you firmly have in your mind that you will attack: defensive was another thing - something Kailypso fell back on often: who wouldn't have in a strange place? To be on the defense was justified, but offense? No, she didn't believe her one iota.
Kanga was not so harsh in his judgement and straightened up, pulled his chin in slightly, dropped his raised lip and shook his head, glancing over at his fellow conversationalist again to see how she was taking it, if she was as confused as he was. No, she wasn't confused, she didn't care what this she-wolf wanted or what she did, she only knew what she'd been getting ready to do and trusting, or entertaining the thought of for even one second, believing she didn't pose a threat, or adding her to their talk, or wondering how long she'd been watching them - all of those curiosities were irrelevant. She would not be distracted from the root of the matter: "You'd better believe it," she hissed between her teeth at the intruder's remark that they (or heck, Kanga alone) was much too strong for her.

Asrael;
She stopped, aware of the wolves, especially the male. She looked through half-lidded eyes as he looked to the other female, probably in confusion. Asrael grunted, heaving herself easily due to her body build. Her face shifted into a slightly more fearful face, which was her usual expression. "I guess there's no fool to trick? That must make me the fool." She said softly, shifting her paws and standing to her full height. Asrael still didn't stand completely to the two, and her normally puffed out chest probably didn't look natural to the wolves. She didn't think much of it but the two probably could see it as a challenge.

Kanga;
Kaily didn't warm up to the stranger quite as quickly as Kanga had; besides, warm up too was a very generous term. It was more that Kanga had been so confused by the female's odd way of conducting herself that it had put a momentary halt in his suspicious and displayed agression. Any thoughts Kanga had had about bugging Kailypso quickly evaporated as she continued to engage the female in dialogue. She was downright intimidating, and for some reason that brought the memory of a smile to Kanga's lips (though he didn't smile outright, for this was not the time for such things).
As the encounter continued, the strange female finally seemed to grasp the seriousness of the situation, and perhaps realize just how idiotic it had been to go for an attacking mindset right off the bat. It still struck Kanga as rather hilarious. Not even males four times the females' sizes e ever initiated a fight with Kanga or Manaaki. It took a special kind of desperation before a wolf would challenge creatures like them—hulking things born out of legend and mystery. But this female had gone and done it right away. Perhaps she just had really low confidence and assumed everyone was going to attack her first—but that still didn't explain why she hadn't gone on the defensive first, rather than the alternative.
In any case, her face now reflected fear more appropriate of the situation she had gotten herself into. She said something that Kanga didn't quite understand. "I guess there's no fool to trick? That must make me the fool." What? Kanga shifted, his muscular shoulders rolling under his skin and making the now-dry russet fur shine red. The packed snow beneath his heavy paws and black claws whined in protest under his weight.
"Did you take us for fools?" His voice was so low, so calm, and so threatening that for a moment it took even him aback. His breath misted before him, and his eyes were alight, ringed with grey that reflected the snow around them. "And were we the fools you thought us to be... What trick would you have brought upon us?" Maybe he had been willing to give her the benefit of the doubt a moment ago, but now she had admitted outright that she had been trying to pull something over on them. She was right in admitting she was a fool. She stood then, and her chest squared off. Kanga barely had to react or change positions, for his sheer size was more (much more) than enough to deal with her should she (for some reason) choose to attack. But his eyes shifted sideways to Kailypso. How would she take the females squared-off chest? It was not a peaceful stance—yet another example of foolishness that the stranger was exhibiting.

Kailypso:
"I guess there's no fool to trick? That must make me the fool." ... "Darn right!" Kailypso narrowed her eyes and eased herself a little lower to the ground, giving herself more leverage to push off from should the need arise. Her ears twitched back and her lip quirked over her bared teeth as she fought to keep a growl down. Oh yes, she'd been a fool alright. At least she was admitting it, but that statement from before - the one about how she knew what she was doing, it still made her ruff stand on end: she didn't trust this intruder. She would not make excuses for this fool on a fool's errand. No matter what charade she put up, she didn't trust her.
The raven-coated intruder softened her eyes and voice and drew up to her full height and squared her chest. She didn't fight the low, warning rumble in her throat this time. Why was she contradicting herself? Her movements were slow and soft, and nonthreatening and her facial expression and voice said she was surrendering any hostile intentions: but her body language said something different. Kailyspo was not a large wolf: she hated to think she was petite, but she was, even an average-sized female usually came up a half-a-head higher than she did. While the stranger was no match for Kanga (she couldn't imagine anyone being a match for Kanga: not with his size), she came up easily taller and more muscular than Kaily, and drawing up to that full height to show it off and squaring off her chest to let them get a good look at her size screamed to the young wolf's instincts that she was being threatened, whether intentionally or not. To be fair, she hadn't assumed attack-position again, which was a good sign, but there was no reason to be fair when this intruder had moments before been planning to spring. No, no benefit of the doubt for this one. There was nothing she could afford to doubt.
Kanga was far more judicial and fair about it. He still kept drawn up and alert, eyes carefully on the potential threat as he addressed her and her comment about the fools. "Did you take us for fools?" the fur along her spine pricked up with the low note of warning in his voice. The low, unearthly quiet, soft, warning whisper. It all sounded very peaceful in black and white and in telling, but there was some horrible warning in them, some horrible, suppressed fury for such a stupid assumption and the white snow in the silver-ringed eyes made them look pale and ghostly, almost demonic if she was inclined to believe stories about spooks and spirits, which she was not, but it still had the desired effect of warning, another capable wolf ready to react, to spring, to attack if needs be should the female try anything. "Were we the fools you thought us to be...what trick would you have brought upon us?"
Good, Kanga wasn't buying it either. He wasn't being as aggressive as she was, but he was ready to be. The horrible snarl on Kailypso's face briefly flickered in and out of a grin and she turned her attention back to the intruder to see how she would answer.

Asrael;
"Did you take us for fools?" Asrael sighed, her tail swaying slowly behind her. "At first? Yes, actually." Her voice shook at the end of her sentence. "If a fight was gonna happen I would've ''helped'' the losing side, then turn on them." She said, her gaze falling onto the snow on the ground. "Hurt me if you wish. I'm tougher than I seem." She thought, looking at the two wolves before trying to bring in her chest so that they wouldn't take it the wrong way. "It's harder to do this when your chest is naturally bigger than almost everything else on your body. I'm Asrael, by the way."

Kanga;
Kanga's big ears flattened to his head. Kaily was silent beside him, but the irritation and barely-concealed aggressions was rolling off of her in waves. At first, Kanga had just assumed the female rude, ignorant, and perhaps a little bit dim. But now? Now she was being a downright nuisance. Admitting she had thought they were fools, and then explaining her fighting tactics to them—what was she playing at? "You would have 'helped the losing side before turning on them?'" Kanga's voice reflected his complete mystification of the situation. "What losing side? You would have been the losing side. Kailypso and I weren't fighting, we were having a conversation—which was actually rather nice before you came along."
He advanced on her now, if only to show her his sheer and utter size, strength, and power. She would be easier than easy for him to kill, and there was no Manaaki here to stop him. Kanga stalked across the snow, dipping in a circle around her, too gracefully for a wolf of his ridiculous size. The snow underfoot groaned, and his massive paws left heavy ditches in the powder—but he was otherwise silent. He lifted his lips and showed his teeth once more, licking the pointed fangs. His hackles rose, giving him yet more size. Asrael's head barely reach Kanga's shoulder while he was standing. He loomed over her, eyes wide and flashing. In that moment he looked lethal—worse than lethal. He looked like he could rip her head off with a single twist of her neck; and unfortunately for Asrael, he almost certainly could.
"And tell us, oh great one. When you 'helped' the losing side, what makes you think it would have made any difference? What makes you think you would have survived? Kailypso would have been the one losing—but what makes you think that the two of you could have stood a chance against me?" He was not boasting, and nor was he threatening Kaily. He was spelling out the obvious, for this female obviously couldn't see it for herself. Kanga's voice trembled through the cold air, the bass almost too low in some parts to properly discern. A ceaseless growl had risen from his throat and remained dark and dangerous with every syllable he uttered. He then rose to his full and awesome height, which meant that he had to bend his neck almost fully to meet Asrael's line of sight. It was laughable.
"And what makes you think we care for your name or the way your body is built?" He shook his head slowly. "I am a large animal. I have never met my equal. And yet, I have never used my body as an excuse when I have gotten in over my head or made a foolish mistake."
Asrael had really gotten on his bad side. This wasn't rare—what was more curious was that Kaily had gotten on his good side. That being said, however, Asrael really wasn't doing herself any favours. Kanga's patience was almost up, and as he had already considered... there was no Manaaki to reel him in.

Kailypso:
Oh, her patience was up. Forget that Kanga's was wearing thin, hers was up. It was beyond up, it was spent, gone and in the next life. While Kanga approached slowly, Kailypso's coiled legs sprang straight and in three sharp bounds where you could have blinked and missed them, she was up on her toes to meet the intruder's eye-level and looking 'Asrael' straight in her bright pink eyes. An unearthly war-cry, something between a wounded howl and the lowest growl possible for a creature of her size came out and she stopped whiskers short of bowling Asrael over.
"Like you said," Kailyspo hissed slowly and deliberately, "I guess this makes you the fool." her breath came hard and deliberately, hissing in and out with great, controlled effort not to erupt into more howls and screams. Kanga gave Asrael his side of it all. There wouldn't have been a loser, they weren't fighting; either way Asrael lost. Even if they had been, Kanga could have wrenched her head off easily - and there was absolutely nothing stopping him from doing it now. He told her she was accountable for her own actions, they didn't care what her name was or how she was built: she'd just admitted to have been plotting to attack and betray either of them, there was no excuse for that. He drew up and licked his fangs once more as he contemplated his options. Kailypso couldn't blame him, she was having much the same thoughts that he was.
"I've seen your kind before," the young she-wolf's gaze bored accusingly into the depths of Asrael's eyes. "I've seen would-be murderers, those willing to betray for the sake of it, who play us all for fools. I've never killed another wolf before because whatever I do, I don't want to be like you; well - with you I'm sorely tempted to throw that gosh-danged theology to the wind and tear your jugular out right now." another slow, deliberate inhale. "But I won't. Do you know why? Because you're not worth it. You're not worth the time, your not worth the loss of my integrity, so I won't." she glanced at Kanga out of the corner of her eye. Had she really once described him as a gentle giant? Indeed he was...when he had reason to be he could be meek and gentle as a lamb...not now, this was something else entirely, gentle wasn't the word, not for what was about to break out.
"But there's nothing to stop Kanga from doing what he wants. And you know what? I won't stop him, because whatever he does to you, you deserve it." she hissed, eyes absolutely ablaze with rage. "I'm tired of your kind, who think they can kill who they want, who think we're puppets for your amusements. Don't tell me that's not what you do, I don't care what kind you are, there's evil in your blood and you enjoy it, that's all that matters. I've seen too many people get their lives torn apart by you and your kind, I've had enough of it in mine. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to do what you were going to do a few minutes ago: I'd love to pounce and kill you right now. Stop you from ever doing this to any poor, innocent wolf ever again. Save lives, save dreams. I'm not going to - Power forgive me for it - but I might not next time. So I suggest you turn, and start running." with that she whirled around, head turning and cautiously keeping on eye on Asrael. She was waiting for the retreating steps: if they didn't come...well...she'd think of something.

Asrael;
The look on Kanga when he stalked up to her made Asrael softly gasp and back away. Asrael stopped at a tree and looked to Kailypso, her eyes narrowing at the thought of getting hurt. She blinked, and the she-wolf was just in front of her, and yet she tilted her head and smirked. "Ah yes, sir... I know fully well now that there was no battle." She sneered, shifting her body and leaping away from the two. "And "Great one"? I don't deserve such a name. And I was never worth anything in such a pathetic, small world. My name translates to angel of death, and so, this angel is to flutter away and plot her next kill. Trust me kid, karma sucks in the end. Toodles~!" She laughed, before bounding further from the wolves. She stopped, then turned to Kanga and Kailypso, her lips bending into a deranged grin before she left the two to their own surroundings.
Exit Asrael

Kanga;
Kaily let loose on this one, now. She opened up, perhaps more than she meant to, and Kanga actually learned a lot about her. She had never killed before, because she wanted some permanence and accountability in an ever-darkening world. This was interesting to Kanga. Manaaki had never killed anyone, either. Kanga had, of course. It wasn't a secret. But Kailypso wasn't having it. Saying that wolves like Asrael were no good and that she didn't want to become like them, but by-golly she sure was tempted. But then, however, she mentioned Kanga, and how there was nothing stopping him. This was all too true in the light of his current company; however, the strange female seemed to finally hear, and she took a step back from him in fear. About time!
Kaily then called Asrael out for having evil in her blood—saying that she clearly enjoyed it. Kanga wasn't so sure. It seemed that perhaps Asrael thought she was evil, and perhaps even tried to be evil... but was she, really? Doubtful. Nothing about her had screamed 'fear', or 'intimidation', or 'dangerous'. All of the evil wolves Kanga had met had those sort of things about them to some degree, some more than others.
But then Asrael decided to start speaking, boy did she ever. She turned to Kanga with a sneer on her face, which in itself was enough to throw him off guard all over again. Had she no sense? Sneering at a wolf like Kanga?! It was ludicrous! His lips lifted once more out of sheer annoyance. He was going to have to go bring a bear down after this simply to get rid of the negative energy that Asrael was forcing into him. She played down his calling her 'Great One', obviously missing the jibe, and then proceeded to spout some confusing jumble of words, mentioned that she was never worth anything. Kanga could only blink in acute confusion. What exactly was she trying to prove, again? Everytime he thought he had her figured out she would go off on a tangent and lose him again.
She explained that her name meant 'Angel of Death' and she had to flutter away to go plot her next kill. She also made some idle threat about karma coming to get him in the end. "Next kill? What NEXT kill? You haven't done anything, or come close to killing anyone!" Kanga's teeth glistened in the sun, aching to tear into her useless, confusing, annoying flesh. "And oh, karma, you say? Please. Please let it be you who comes to deliver my long-awaited karma. If you can manage it you will have succeeded where hundreds of others have failed in the past. But I pray to the White Ones that it's you who comes to confront me with a half-deranged idea of justice. Don't think I will let your absurdity confuse me again to the point of letting you live. If you ever come to me and expect to do anything to me, or teach me any sort of lesson, I will kill you." It wasn't a threat. It was barely even a promise.
It was simple fact, and his voice reflected as much. Nobody who heard him utter those words would argue that he hadn't meant every syllable.
When Asrael had finally left, Kanga turned to Kailypso, still mystified. "What in the bloody Power's name was that about?!" He coudln't even waste energy being annoyed anymore—he was just so confused. What had the point of the encounter been? What purpose had her being so offensive and hostile served? He looked to Kailypso, fully appreciating how sane and normal she was for the first time since meeting her a short time ago.

Kailypso:
Asrael wouldn't let it go. She just had to go on and keep being stupid. Then it was Kanga's turn to lose it. He roared, that perfectly controlled anger in his low, dangerous voice gave way to dead-certainty and barely concealed anger and a desire to shut her trap for once and all. If you ever come to me and expect to do anything to me, or teach me any sort of lesson, I will kill you."
A horrible shooting pain ripped through her heart and she froze, turning her gaze away from over her shoulder at Asrael - Kanga would watch her - and stared, numb at the snow in front of her. Karma: she didn't believe in karma, and Kanga sounded just as skeptical, but...but what if she was right? What if it went around? She'd let Asrael live...she wanted to turn around and kill her right then and there, but her steps had already gone...the she-wolf had left, her opportunity had fled. Blame it all! She'd promised! ...Fine way to go about keeping it...
She blinked her eyes once or twice, trying to keep the tears from surfacing. She was not some meek little cub who'd scared herself with her first good scream - she'd screamed louder than that before. This wasn't the first time she'd come face-to-face with a wolf like Asrael (though it was the first time she'd done it by herself in a sense, and even then it didn't count because Kanga was right there), she wasn't scared of 'what might have happened', she knew how to fight and she'd done it before...had Kanga just suggested she wouldn't have stood a chance back there? Did he really want to test that theory? It didn't matter. No, it was that she was disappointed in herself, so much for proving herself, so much for choosing her own path, so much for being her own wolf, so much for doing what was 'right'. She still didn't think that 'angel of death' was very dangerous, certainly not very intelligent, but to let her go...Power forgive her indeed.
She furiously scrubbed a paw over her eyes as Kanga turned to her and spoke up again and she straightened and got back to business, looking ruffled and aggressive and fed-up. "What in the bloody Power's name was that about?!" in spite of herself and the tense, past few minutes, she had to fight a grin. It didn't take much, it really wasn't that funny and she still wanted to crawl away somewhere and let a tear or two lose, but they were out of her eyes for now and Kanga was frustrated and needed a normal, sane wolf after having to put of with Asrael's stupid speeches, so she got a hold of herself and didn't smile...goodness, what her family would have said about that kind of language: not that she'd been very proper herself a minute ago, but it was something else that for some reason struck her as almost funny and something else she had to let roll of her back if she was going to reply properly. "I stopped trying to figure out those blamed-and-be-hung misbegottens a long time ago." she grumbled, looking over her shoulder ruefully. "...I should have killed her." she growled at herself in frustration, and strode away, tail thrashing angrily as she fought with herself.

Kanga;
He turned his big head just in time to see Kaily scrub a paw furiously across her face. His eyes shot wide, and suddenly he felt very awkward. Now, Kanga always felt reasonably awkward, but there is a certain deeper sense of discomfort that many males have when in the presence of a female that is feeling something. Kanga's mind was instantly barraged with conflicting ideas. Did he pretend he hadn't seen anything and continue on with their conversation? Or was that insensitive? Did she need comforting? No, males didn't exist simply to comfort females, and neither did females lives revolve around being saved by males. But yet, was he supposed to try and help? She obviously hadn't wanted him to see though, so then this whole hesitation was probably working against him in the end, anyway. He should pretend he hadn't seen anything. But what about the hesitation?
He needed Manaaki.
Kanga forced his eyes downward after having stared for a few moments, and tried to recollect his thoughts. He had to keep it together, which was going to be harder the longer he stayed quiet. As he fretted about what to say, Kaily spoke up. Blast, he had waited too long! Unless she hadn't noticed anything. Doubtful.
"I stopped trying to figure out those blamed-and-be-hung misbegottens a long time ago. I should have killed her."
This time, Kanga's reply took no thought. It came out easily, as if it were truly the right thing to say. He tossed his mane and settled down into the snow, sitting for the first time since Asrael had shown her face. "Kill her? What, and waste that speech you gave? What about all that theology and integrity?" He chuckled deeply once more. He wasn't making fun of her. "Really, if you feel so strongly about a thing, I say why ruin it. There's always going to be wolves like... like..." He lifted a paw to indicate the way Asrael had gone. "And there's always gonna be someone willing to kill them, who either has no integrity," A wink. "Or who is willing to let it slide to get rid of some of the less pleasant things in life."
He stretched his paws out before him, cracking his back and earning a groan. Straightening once more, he gave his head another shake. The snow had started up again, but it was falling softly and peacfully. "And listen... I don't know if you took what I was saying about you back there seriously, or not, but I was just playing it up." Wait. Clarify, but stay casual with it. "Not that you need reassuring or anything..." He shrugged easily. "But I mean, you could have wiped the floor with that one, no question. No question. I might have imbelished myself a little bit to make a point. I just wasn't quite sure if she was grasping the magnitude of the situation. Both of us, against her? And for what reason other than she takes her name too seriously?"
He smiled but his eyes darkened at that last. Kanga. Curse.

Kailypso:
Kanga adapted quickly, she could say that much for him. The beast that could have crushed a wolf like an insect disappeared and he came back as tame and easy-going as ever...with that gosh-darned crooked smile! Why??? She wouldn't hold it against him, it was his way, nothing to be done about that. He tossed his head, smoothing his ruff down and settled back into the snow, back to sitting. He was easy-going wasn't he? She hated sitting down, especially when she was as riled up as she was. But Kanga went and eased himself back down like the big puppy he was and went about trying to ease her ruffled fur down, trying to ease her temper. Kill her? She should have killed her? Was she sure about that? What, and waste that perfectly good speech about theology and integrity? He chuckled at himself. She snorted in derision and frustration. "Hang speeches," she muttered, "A lot of good mine did, she laughed in my face. I shouldn't have let her go, she didn't deserve it, no one else deserves it." Kanga was undaunted, he didn't feel there was any sense in ruining a thing she believed in - oh, so he did have sense in that big, 'gimpy' head of his, good for him.
No, he was serious, there would always be wolves like Asrael and there would always be those willing to kill them, either someone who had no integrity, or someone who didn't care to keep it if it meant getting rid of something so unpleasant. That was something to think about: was keeping her integrity a strength then? Blast moral dilemmas! She was a kid, not a philosopher! Why had she left? NO! She was stronger than that! She wasn't going to go crawling back no, not when she'd finally gotten out. She'd made a mistake: a bitter pill to swallow to admit that, but she could and would admit it, and she'd learn from it. She wasn't a killer, she wasn't going to seek Asrael out - like she'd said she wasn't worth her time, but if they ever crossed paths again...oh please let her meet her before Kanga did, at least give her a good piece of her mind...and claws and teeth.
Kanga stretched, cracked his back and groaned - she remembered his comment about letting himself go and losing his hips and found herself disgusted with how close she'd come to laughing. It wasn't funny, it was...ridiculous...absolutely ridiculous. She turned away, still scowling, determined not to crack another grin. Kanga straightened again and shook out his mane, completely oblivious to the storm inside of her of fury and rage and disgust and loneliness and a laugh. He started up slowly again - his voice wasn't as light-hearted this time, it was almost cautious, gentle: playing up what now? She had to replay the events in her mind to see what he might have been talking about. Not that she needed reassuring- no, of course not, she had no idea what he was talking about. She could have wiped the floor-OH! He meant how he'd played himself up in Asrael's scenario of the three of them fighting. No question: she could have wiped the floor with her. Oh really? Oh yes, no doubt she could wipe the floor with a wolf probably half-again her size and twice as heavy with her gimpy little shoulder. Oh yes, no question about it. She rolled her eyes and that humorless smirk played at her mouth again; she couldn't decide if he was trying to appease what may have been her wounded ego and pride or if he was apologizing for exaggerating himself (she didn't believe it had been an exaggeration, she fully believed he was completely capable to do whatever he'd said he could do). She'd just been so ignorant to everything: really, one she-wolf against both of them? And all because of her name. Kailypso shrugged, "'A rose by any other name'," she mused and glanced at Kanga and froze. Was that-? What? He was smiling, but his eyes were dark with the violent light that had been there with Asrael... "Kanga?" she asked,
