Kailypso:
"Why are you apologizing?" Kanga wanted to know, squaring his chest and leaning back. What on earth did that mean? Was he trying to act tough? Did he not like her so close to him? She stepped back and shifted her weight between her paws. How to go about this? She didn't want to insult him, just...own up. "Sorry for my stupid idea, that's what." she huffed, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get that rough."
The twins exchanged uncomfortable glances and Manaaki cocked an eyebrow at Kanga who shrugged helplessly. He gently cleared his throat and attempted to explain. "You don't have to feel bad, he's had a lot worse than that."[/i] to illustrate, he smacked his paw against Kanga's shoulder. Kanga winced, but otherwise gave no indication that the move had hurt him, but she'd seen it and heard the noise, she reared up and reached to swat Manaaki's paw away. "Don't do that!" she was too slow - how could they move so quickly when they were so huge? It was a paradox that both infuriated and intrigued her, she was quick because she was smaller and lighter and her reflexes could carry her agile frame more easily, but they were so big, they should have been slow like a turtle or slug (Kanga's suggestion of them letting their hips go and the mental picture that brought came to mind again). In any case, she'd missed it entirely and Manaaki's paw was already down before she was up, she plopped back down with a soft thump and flashed her teeth briefly at the gray twin. "It has nothing to do with how much one of us can take, it's that it was a playfight and shouldn't have gone that far." again, guilt...Power she was starting to sound like her mother. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean-" she started again, but Manaaki tried to clarify. "I didn't step in to save-him,"
She furrowed her brows and cocked her head. No? Obviously not, she knew she couldn't do that much damage, Kanga was sturdy enough to handle it. But they'd been getting rough and blood was getting drawn - Manaaki seemed the more responsible of the two, hadn't he just been coming in to break it up? Make them apologize and make-friends? Kanga finished for him. "He was stopping me."
She had to take a minute to process that. Kanga needed stopped, thus he hadn't been stopping, thus he had still been going with no intention of stopping, thus he had still been going when- oh.... As it clicked for her Kanga cleared his throat and looked away. She swished her tail and glanced down, suddenly afraid to look into his eyes, recalling the darkness that she'd glimpsed when the old male had come talking of Midnight Silence. Kanga was indeed a warrior, a fight was a fight was a fight, a sport, a task, either way it had to be finished and all rules applied. It hadn't been fair of her to bring it up, she was so much smaller, he could have broken her - even killed her if he wanted. For it to be even remotely fair he could barely touch her. Why hadn't she thought of that sooner? She sucked in a deep breath and forced herself to look up. The hazel eyes were gentle as usual, if not a bit subdued with the look of a guilty pup - she was feeling much the same way. "Well, it was my stupid idea, guess I had it coming to me, huh?" she shrugged her shoulders, one throbbing, one crooked and looked around again, searching for a way to complete the apology, finish it off nicely...nothing came to mind. "Look, don't worry about it, I was asking for it. Lesson learned: Don't mess with Kanga," It was all so flimsy, this was not going to be making him feel better...she shut up, hoping someone else would find something to say.
