MedsValentine;It was surprising; the oasis wasn't frozen anymore. The rocks that surrounded the pool were covered in a thin layer of ice and small portions of not-melted ice still floated across the water. A few birds were chirping occasionally and small flashes of movement could be seen in the water. The ground around the pool only had from frost and small patches of snow that were soon to be gone. There was only one patch of ground that didn't have any frost and was by no means cold. A bright-colored wolf was laying across the ground on its side, staring across the pool with lime green eyes. The wolf was a very green male with both dark and lighter markings. He also had one torn ear and some scars on his shoulder, but those weren't necessarily seen with the way he was laying. The male flicked his tail and ears, an odd smirk on his face. he lifted his legs and rolled over onto his back, stretching out his limbs with a smile. He caught a scent, one he didn't recognize, but he knew it was close and it was a wolf. He wasn't sure whether it was a male or female, but he had his hopes up for a certain gender which he was quite fond of.

Nyx;
Nyx had gotten into the habit of leaving Yami behind. Her presence was irking. Yes, Nyx has broken her spirit and she kept quiet enough—it was simply knowing she was behind her that was annoying. She was such a little thing, too, that it was more than easy to tie her down with the thorny leash Nyx had forced upon her. She was strong enough to break it; after all, it was only plant—but the little pup wouldn’t even try. This was how Nyx knew she was really broken. Any hope of escape was gone. She was claimed for Midnight Silence, and had sealed her own fate by giving up. Weakling.
But as it was, Nyx was bored. And when Nyx was bored it could be a dangerous thing. More than that, she was hungry. It was rare that Nyx ever allowed herself to feel hunger (she often just ignored it), but she hadn’t eaten in days and her already-thin frame was even more skeletal than normal. Black and orange paws were tracing through the last pieces of snow as she made her way to the Oasis. This was unclaimed land, so Nyx could eat what she wanted. Today, it happened to be fish.
As she approached the water, her ember-like eyes latched onto a green from at the water’s edge. A cracked lip lifted to reveal yellow-stained teeth, but she didn’t slow down. Strangers had never been worrying to Nyx, especially when she was on a mission. As she stopped at the small lake’s bank, her eyes flicked from the fish below the surface, back to the male. In that moment she decided to have a bit of fun. At the very least, it would do to chase the boredom away. She sat down and flicked her ears. Nyx was a good actor, a master-manipulator, and an even better liar. Somehow she forced her face into a more comely expression, and straightened her shoulders so she didn’t appear quite so hunched and demonic. ”Hello,” She said, managing to slightly time down the constant rasp that coloured her words. She straightened her head and glanced towards the male. What fun could she get up to with him? Her power-tattoo wasn’t glowing either at that moment, a rarity these days, so the male wouldn’t even be able to see her for what she was immediately.

Valentine;
It had become more clear now. The stranger, whose scent was getting closer and closer by the second, seemed to be a female. That for sure caught the attention of the green male. Despite that, he didn't move from his spot. He remained laying on his back with his legs held up in front of him. Honestly he qas quite comfy.
He heard footsteps and bent his head back more, noticing a flash of color. He saw a black and orange she-wolf come to the oasis, a mysterious look about her. Valentine stared at the female upside down, taking note of what features he could that weren't as disoriented as the others.
The female had seemed to straighten herself out before merely saying hello. He chuckled and flicked his tail, flashing a charming smile and a spark going through his eye. "Hello~ gorgeous, " he said with a smirk, the end of his tail slightly wagging.

Nyx;
Nyx’s eyes narrowed and sparked only slightly when he greeted her. She kept firm control over her tail to keep it from lashing out behind her, and she kept her face passive. She tilted her head slightly, as unopposing wolves did when meeting someone new, or being curious about something. Her body was still, casual, comfortable, but her shadowed thoughts were leaping into over-drive. Nyx saw herself speak harshly to the male, mock him for his words, lock him in a massive and unforgiving black shadow dome that would render him blind and hopeless... But she remained still. Instead, she quirked an innocent smile onto her face (all wrong in close-quarters but from a distance, acceptable), and allowed her tail to lift softly and feather back down on the rock she was sitting.
Nice, but not too nice. Let’s not get crazy here.
”That’s a rather abrupt greeting, don’t you think?” She let a small laugh come from her throat. The sound was a bad mockery of the real sound of laughter, like metal grating on metal, but she hoped the lake would dampen he effect. ”Why, you don’t know me at all.”

Valentine;
When it comes to sensing changes in others, as well as telling when something is wrong or off, many can tell and notice. They can see a physical change or some sort of emotion and can decide whether to acknowledge it or ignore it. Almost all have this ability; it is something we all do. Yet, by some odd miracle or downfall, Valentine didn't seem to possess this ability.
There was a chance that the change of emotion and the fakeness of this she-wolf's friendliness could be seen by anyone else. In a way, depending on what she had planned, she was lucky that she stumbled upon such an idiotic male. He merely chuckled at her first question, closing his eyes and shaking his head. He then opened them again and stared down the dark female with lime green eyes that were filled with curiosity and amusement. She was interesting. Such a dark coat with very striking markings, hollow eyes with mere orange dots to serve as pupils, those stripes down the back, and those circles above her eyes. If it weren't for her very distant and shady aura, she may be seen as a pretty wolf. Yet that would only be the way others would see her. To Valentine, she was very intriguing and didn't mind the darkness that seemed to loom around her.
He rolled over onto his side and still kept his face towards her. "How can I be expected to hold my tongue when I see a stunning she-wolf, whether I know her personally or not? Technically I do know you now, just enough to not be a stranger."

Nyx;
Nyx actually felt her insides tighten and try to revolt as the lounging male rolled over and fixed her with his lime-green stare. Even the way he positioned himself by the side of the water screamed of his desire to be desired and to desire. Nyx's ember-like eyes, not burning in that moment, traced over his frame in her own turn. On his back without a care in the world, long legs splayed in the air, he was the very picture of health and youth. He looked right back, all full of curiosity and a mischievous amusement. It was as if Nyx could feel his gaze on her, sizing her up, rolling over her dry fur and curiously thin body. Distance was Nyx's friend in this situation, as in most. Closeness, unless her company was truly daft, would reveal her dry and hay-like fur, her neck that often looked disgustingly disjointed, her eyes that gave no hint to a soul of any kind, her stained teeth... Nyx wasn't exactly what one would call 'whole'. But here was this male—at a distance, to his credit—looking her over as if she was a young doe ripe for the taking. Oh, Nyx could see exactly how the females would fall for this male—crawl to him, beg for him. Poor, pathetic, gullible females, how they would worship him.
"Technically I do know you now, just enough to not be a stranger." Strangers were Nyx's favourite thing. She took a few steps closer to him, which brought her to the water. She supposed that if she behaved herself, even her appearance might not be enough to throw him off. She pawed at the icy bank and tossed her head, but tightened the muscles she normally didn't use, which made her neck appear much less unsettling. "What good is a pretty meal if the inside has rotted away?" She countered. Her voice was always gruff and hoarse, but this time around she was managing to keep the chilling note out of it, somehow. It was interesting that to be normal was what was difficult for her.
Her eyes fell to the pond. Little platforms of ice danced within the water, but Nyx could see fish bobbing in and out of the shadows. Her ears flicked in anticipation.

Valentine;
Looks are always a way to get a first impression of someone. For Nyx, this was some irresistible, cocky male who would have females crawling all over him, other than herself of course. In all reality she wasn't wrong; he knew that he was a good-looking wolf and he embraced it to its full potential with no regret. Charming females with a smooth voice, flashing them a handsome smile, and catching their eye with his own lime green. At this point it was like a life style. He often got in trouble for living this way, but feisty females and ones with attitude were his favorite. Work them up, anger them, get under their skin, then watch as they slowly fall. Perhaps...no. This female wasn't really feisty, or at least she didn't act like it. She wasn't currently embracing his charms, but maybe she could be broken down as well.
He watched as she took a few steps closer, stopping herself at the edge of the pool. He then noticed something. She had a very....what's the word? Grim? Hellish? Maybe beastly was what he was looking for. She wasn't that much closer to him than she was before, but she was close enough that he noticed a few small details he hadn't seen before. Her fur was a big ragged and spiked, as well as unkept, but that may just be his pickiness for his own fur speaking. He also saw a few other tiny, minor details, but those may have just been a trick of the eye. Who was he to judge? Maybe she had been through a lot recently and had no time to care about appearances.
He heard what she said and was surprised at what his first thought was. She has a point. With a statement like what she said, he didn't often think that. He felt himself chuckle without even being able to hold it in. He rolled himself again, now laying on his stomach with his legs in front of him.
"At least if the meal is rotten it had the chance to look appealing in some way rather than being rotten entirely. One out of two views is better than none." He stared at this female, unsure of what to think. She did have that beast-like appearance that could scare any wolf out of their pelt, but appearances weren't everything.

Nyx;
He could see her better now. His eyes moved just a bit more slowly, as if tracing over some of her distinct features. She turned to him and flashed a toothy smile. In doing so, Nyx thought she saw an almost imperceptible exhale of his lungs; as if he had noticed her imperfections and glossed over them anyway. Why, he was good, wasn’t he? Nyx’s eyes smouldered into life as she watched him roll onto his stomach. He was still watching her, even now after seeing her in more details. Nyx paused in her search of the icy water. How very interesting. Maybe this male would truly see past her outer shell to the wolf within. Unfortunetly for this male, she was even uglier on the inside.
He stole her attention back when he spoke of outward appearances. Nyx withheld a chuckle. Pretty on the outside, ugly on the inside, what did he care? Nyx almost had to forget her act for a moment as a real question formed on her lips.
”You would rather set your sights on a pretty piece of meat, just to be fooled when you try to eat the putrid flesh within?” Her rough voice was low, but it carried well over the water. She felt a half-mocking and half-appreciating expression colour her face. Perhaps he wasn’t so soft-headed as she thought, for hadn’t she herself done much the same with Fenrir not a season ago? Though in that case she revelled in the putrid flesh within. She tilted her head, half-lidded eyes trained on Valentine, the fish forgotten.

(^ I had to. It was quickly/crappily done after I already typed this post) Valentine;The male flicked his ears, taking in the sight of the female further. She was already an interesting sight, one to behold if he was honest. There were many examples of different kinds of females he had encountered in the past. A pure white she-wolf with the most gorgeous blue eyes, a voice like an angel, and a heart of gold. A brown, tan, and white she-wolf who always looked off into the distance and contemplated what she wanted in her life; a dreamer in all aspects. Even the fire red female with the yellow markings who had killed many in her lifetime and almost never showed any mercy towards anyone. For Val, females could be placed into categories of what they were like. The three examples that came to his mind were only the most broad and fit well with the alliances of the valley: good, neutral, and evil. But this female, this black and orange she-wolf with the mangled appearance, the deep, dark eyes, and a disturbed atmosphere about her, she was unlike any he had met before. This female knew what she was like and knew what he would get if he continued. Unfortunately for her, it was the knowledge that he didn't know that made his interest increase. After her statement, the he-wolf flashed his own toothy smile and stood from where he laid, speaking in the process. "Sometimes that's the case. But I'm not dead yet, so that putrid, rotten flesh must not do much like some think it would." He shook off his pelt, removing the small droplets of water that had gathered at the ends of his fur from the snow on the ground and from the very faint mist of the oasis. His eyes then narrowed and locked onto her again with a more intrigued, almost sinister look. "Though, judging by what I've seen so far, I'm not the only one here who doesn't mind the hidden putridness below."(This is getting more and more intense and it's making me excited. Also, the three wolves I described at the beginning aren't any actual characters. They were just random, off-the-top-of-my-head wolves to help prove a point.)

((EEP! That's so great!!))
Nyx;
"But I'm not dead yet, so that putrid, rotten flesh must not do much like some think it would."
Nyx's eyes deepened and she rolled her boney shoulders under loose skin. If she was being honest, and she almost never was, this conversation was not as painful as she had thought it would have been. She thought it would have been a snarky comment here, a flirt there, a snap in return, and repeat. There was certainly an element of that going on, but she was wanting to skin herself alive less and less by the second. To be sure, she wouldn't say she was enjoying the interaction, but she could not deny that perhaps this fluffy-headed ladies-man was a little darker than he let on. Wasn't that something she enjoyed, anyway? Searching for and discovering the darkness within for herself? Bane, for example, had been a lowly neutral wolf when she had met him. But now? Oh no. As soon as a wolf started running with her little band of darklings, it was only a matter of time. "Ahh," Nyx whispered, taking a few steps closer to him until she was a natural speaking distance apart, though still far off enough that he couldn't lunge at her. "Or perhaps all that bad flesh has done something to your insides." She dipped her chin down to the ground but kept him locked in her upward-turned eyes. "Maybe you're just as rotten as your prey."
He shook his pelt off then, the very picture of worry-free charm, then fell back to her with a more intense look than before. "—I'm not the only one here who doesn't mind the hidden putridness below."
"Nobody knows that putridness like I do," She confirmed, but didn't elaborate. Her voice was now more grating than it had been before, and she was grinning wickedly.

Valentine;In the back of the green-furred male's mind there had always been one thought. The thought that this female wouldn't be one he would go after. These kinds of wolves were very rare. He had only came upon one other like this, and that interaction hadn't ended well. It had been very entertaining though. Maybe this would turn out the same. This female in all of her mangled, psychotic glory was an entirely different beast to sink his teeth into, though. Figuratively, of course, unless that is the direction this exchange was going to go. But he had a feeling he knew what she was thinking. A handsome, charming ladies-man with a secret dark side. But, in truth, what was an evil wolf unless they had some secrets? Not all are obvious, and that was something that was easy for Valentine to control when he met others. As this mysterious beauty, if you would call her that, had said earlier, a pretty face doesn't always mean a pretty inside. She had come closer again, which would give him a closer look at her and all of her wickedness, but at this point he didn't care. She was already revealing who she truly was just by the way she began to change throughout their conversation. She began to speak of putrid flesh as if she were talking about her closest friend. She came closer to reveal matted fur and a straight-up disgusting appearance. Even her voice was like sharp claws scraping across the thickest ice(aka nails on a chalkboard). When they first met, she used desception to make herself appear friendly and normal. In his eyes, at that moment, she was the exact definition of a pure evil wolf. "I'm sure you do, my mangled friend." He allowed himself to chuckle, taking a single step towards her, his eyes sparking with the same mischief and fierceness that was there moments before. "Now that we both know each other better, may I have the absolute pleasure of knowing m'lady's name?" he asked, a hint of sarcasm and wit in his voice. (The more this goes on the more I feel like he would quickly become one of her little minions. I didn't think that was where this was gonna go, but I like it >

((Moooore darklings!))
Nyx;
Mangled, now there was a new one. Nyx liked it. She had gotten demon, devil, soulless, but never yet something so linked to her appearance. She allowed a smile to curve her lips and hint at her yellowing teeth. The male requested her name after looking her over from a new and improved point of view. To his credit he didn’t seem too bothered by what she looked like even with the knowledge that she was mangled. This was new, as well. How very interesting. Well she certainly wasn’t bored anymore, that was for sure.
”My name is Nyx,” She replied easily. It was a rarity for her to give her name so straight forwardly when asked for it. Her name meant Goddess of the Night, which was rather fitting, as she no longer needed to sleep (and hadn’t ever since getting her power so many seasons ago), and things like regular darkness has become like daylight to her. She paused and titled her head very slowly while keeping her eyes locked on him. Faintly, the marked skin of her tattoo started to glow. In a matter of seconds it was a bright orange two-ringed circle. Valentine’s shadow leapt away from him and rose up to meet his eye. It’s tail thrashed, before quickly taking a bounding leap toward Nyx herself. Nyx’s own shadow reared up from her body and met Valentine’s shadow head-on, and as the two grappled, they sank into a pool of blackness that rolled and poured over Nyx’s frame in waves. Such tricks were not even an effort for Nyx anymore, at level two Shadow Mastery. There was no headache, and no struggle. Simple light tricks were her instinct now. There were still things that came difficult to her and that she neeeed to practice, but those were much larger-scale things. Perhaps Valentine would be lucky enough to see some of them.
As the shadows fought, Nyx fixed Valentine with a smug little glance, knowing that because she was the highest shadow puppeteer in the valley, he had not seen such finesse or control of the darkness like this before. She tilted her head still farther to the side. Would he give his name? She supposed that was the natural order that came next. The little smile widened on her dry lips.

Valentine;
It was now clear to Valentine that the newly named Nyx was entertained. That alone also entertained him in its own way. That just showed that a part of his charms really were working, even on a wolf with no soul. That did give him a bit of confidence. After she had introduced herself, he had began to introduce himself as well, but he noticed that she was beginning to do something. He couldn't quite tell what at first, but a part of her fur, the circles on her head, were beginning to glow. In that moment he watched as the ground seemed to move under him before a dark figure appeared before him. The figure had no face, no features, no real appearance except for darkness. A shadow, he concluded, as he watched the dark wolf-shaped figure lash its tail and jump towards the she-wolf. He watched with his own lime green eyes as the shadow of Nyx began to change and move without her doing the same. It was that moment when he realized the shadow he had seen before was himself. He saw the two shadows wrestle before falling like a waterfall over the frame of Nyx. He was impressed and he wasn't going say differently. His eyes showed that he was interested and that he was intrigued.
"My my. You are your own form of a beautiful beast, and a talented one at that. Quite impressive, my dear." He flicked his tail and stretched out his limbs for a moment, his muscles rolling underneath his fur. As he stood back straight up, he turned his head to the side, his own way of strutting, I suppose. "The name is Valentine."

Nyx;
Beautiful beast. Now there was something Nyx hadn't been dubbed before. Beast, sure, that was a regular—but beautiful? Usually her company couldn't get past her overall aura to look at or even really notice her physical appearance, aside from the fact that it made them uncomfortable. She lifted her neck slightly as the shadows continued rolling and fighting over her back (occasionally a whole head or tail would rear up before sinking back into the darkness, as if the wolves were fighting under murky water), and appraised him. He certainly had guts, she had to give that to him. When he called her dear she felt a shiver roll down her spine, though whether it was revulsion or simple irritation, she didn't know. He introduced himself as Valentine, and Nyx's sharp, stained smile flashed out once more. "Of course you are," She croaked, feeling no need to disguise her voice further. So he was impressed by her shadow play, was he? Nyx felt no need to show off, per se, but a rapt audience was a rarity to her. Perhaps one further little trick. It wasn't like she had anything to prove, least of all to this male, but why not?
She lifted her head and glanced toward the sky almost casually, and suddenly all the shadows in the area had flitted to her. A thin, circular, black column of darkness stretched up from her body with lightning-fast speed (as she had grown quite accustomed to increasing the speed with which she could manipulate shadows). She stretched and enlarged the darkness in her grasp, until the skinny column was reflecting on the surface of the clouds. She twitched her head slightly, and like a firework, the column exploded at the top and spread out across the sky. There was no limit to how big Nyx could spread her shadows; at least, she had yet to find on. It tickled her mind, as it always did when trying something new or pushing the boundaries, but she pushed through the pain. The shadows blanketed across the sky, as far as either wolf could see in any direction. Nyx's eyes narrowed with effort, but other than that she didn't move. The sun wasn't blocked out, but it was hampered, and everything was bathed in a murky glow (as if Nyx had cast shadows around the area rather than through the sky).
She glanced back down at Valentine and gave a little snicker (though it was not a joyful or even necessarily happy sound). She found that if she held the shadows in their current position and didn't try to stretch or move them further, the headache remained the same. That, she could handle. Her tail flicked behind her.
"It is interesting, isn't it?" Not even Nyx would deny that. The one thing she never held any animosity for was the darkness. "One of the many gifts of Geist." She cracked her neck audibly, and in a rush, the darkness rolled back together from the edges of their vision, then dripped down until each original shadow was back where it had come from—save her own.
"Just a reflection of the putridness below."

Valentine;
Her voice scratched the inside of his ears and her smile reminded him of a crescent moon in the night sky, only not as white or appealing. Even though she was very odd-looking, Valentine didn't mind. Her voice, the way she acted, none of it mattered. Her deranged appearance only added on to his interest of her more and more by the second.
Soon another shadow show had begun. All of the shadows in the area seemed to flow to her like waves follow the moon. The area seemed so bare without the shadows, but that wasn't his current focus. He watched as the shadows loomed over her and shot out like lightning bolts around her. The darkness went to the sky, exploding in a shower of shadows above them. The area no longer showed any sign of the sun, almost as if dark storm-clouds were hovering over the area, threatening to drop rain and pound thunder through the trees. The display was truly amazing. This shadow-puppet master's tricks were truly a sight to behold. The green male watched as the shadows danced above him in the sky, spreading out.
His eyes, shadowed by the darkness around him, went back to Nyx and another smile formed on his face. He shook his head and let out a laugh. The laugh wasn't meant to be insulting or sarcastic, but he definitely seemed amused. "You never cease to amaze me. I can with certainty say that you are one of the most interesting wolves I have ever met."
He then heard her comment of how this gift of hers had come from the great Geist. That didn't surprise him at all; it merely made the smile on his face grow larger. "I'm sure that she was honored to give you a power. You are the very perfect example of an evil wolf. I'm quite sure that any evil wolf would look up to you."
