Nikolai gets up and walks out of his den. He then begins to walk down the forest trail that connected his den to the Forest of Love. With every paw step he took, Nikolai felt a little more confident about his odds of finding a mate. “I have a very good feeling that I may find a mate today... I just hope that my nerves don’t cause me to lose any chances that I may get at finding one.” Nikolai says in his mind. He then spotted a clearing in the woods, where there was a lake. Nikolai wanders over to the lake and bows his head down to take a drink. After he quenched his thirst, Nikolai finds a nearby tree and lays down in the shade underneath the tree. He then yawns and says to himself “maybe I’ll find my mate after a quick little nap.” Nikolai then lays his head down and nods off to sleep.

((Wonderful, thanks so much!))
Fia;
White and red fur wasn’t very good for blending into autumn leaves. The red was, sure, but Fia had a little too much of her father in her colours to truly blend. But that was alright. She didn’t need to blend in. She had no reason to hide, and nothing to fear. That was just one of the perks of who she was. Eyes the colour of honey flicked ceaselessly, first to the sun, then to the ground then—to pink? Fia’s expression changed as the reds and oranges of fall suddenly melted away to be replaced by leaves of pink. Her ears flicked. Oh, she knew where she was. The Forest of Love.
Now they had never been expressly told by their parents that they weren’t allowed in, so Fia took that as permission. With cautious steps at first, though quickly gaining confidence and speed, Fia entered into the groves of lush pink. Before long, she spotted a wolf up ahead that looked to be sleeping. Her brow lifted, but she did not freeze in her tracks. Instead, she sped up until she came to rest a few feet from him. She didn’t say anything, but she watched the rise and fall of his ribs as he breathed. How curious, that a wolf would go to sleep out in the open, totally unprotected...

((You’re welcome )) Nikolai’s ears perked up as he hears paw steps coming towards him. He wakes up and sees a young female wolf standing nearby. “Ok Nikolai, now’s your chance to shine... don’t mess this up!” Nikolai says in his mind. He then sits up and smiles before saying with a friendly tone of voice “why hello there! What brings you here today?” Nikolai then says in his mind “that’s a good start, keep it up!” Nikolai’s eyes twinkled a bit as the sunlight hit them. He then thinks to himself as he observes the beautiful young female wolf in front of him “wow... she is very beautiful. The way the red and white colors on her fur blend with each other is truly magnificent... and those eyes of hers are truly captivating... I think I may have just found my perfect match.” Nikolai then refocused his attention and waited for the young female to respond.

Fia;
The male woke up as Fia sat and watched him silently. She blinked, not flinching like most pups would, but rather seemed even more interested now that he was awake. "Myself. Nothing brings me anywhere except my own choices." She eyed him up and down. Some would call her spoiled—but as the daughter of the Midnight Silence alphas, she was allowed to be. She wouldn't correct anybody that said such things. She would merely prove how true it was, and that any sort of power could be molded. "My mommy and daddy don't know I'm here."
The way the male was looking at her made Fia think that perhaps he didn't know how old she was. Sometimes wolves guessed her age wrong, but she never corrected them. Power was power, in whatever form in came in. She straightened her shoulders slightly as he watched her. This was the Forest of Love. She could only imagine that he was here looking for a mate—even though he had been sleeping. She quirked her brow and stayed silent, wondering just what he would do next.

Nikolai could tell by the way she responded to his question that the young female was a pup that was born into a very high up rank. He says in his mind “wow... I wasn’t expecting her to respond like that, but I guess she did in fact answer the question. It almost seems as though she is trying to show some sort of authoritative power... but why would she do that to me? Does she think that I can be manipulated by her words or something? I have a strange feeling about her now... and it’s definitely not love...” Nikolai looks up at the sky and notices that the sun is beginning to go down. He says “well, I think that you should be heading home soon. It’s getting late and I’m sure that your parents would be worried about you.” He then added with a slight wag of his tail “oh, before you go, I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Nikolai, what’s your name?”

Fia;
Suddenly, the light in his eyes died. Fia watched it happen as soon as she answered. A smirk grew on her face. She had seen the look before. Some wolves just couldn’t handle a pup that was more powerful than them, both by blood status and by general personality. All that would change one day, though. Fia would grow to be a beautiful and terrible leader—one that even her father would come to revere. ”Hello Nikolai,” She looked at him through half-lidded eyes. ”My name is Fia, daughter of Midnight Silence, born of Alphas Fjord and Skia.” Her favourite thing was watching other wolves reactions when they learned of her parentage. But now it seemed like the male wanted her to leave... Fia was very tempted to stay. Nobody could order her around...
”And no, you’re wrong,” She murmured, a bit of the pride fading away from her voice. ”My mother and father are not worried about me...”

Nikolai says with another bow of his head “nice to meet you, Fia.” He then hears Fia say that her parents aren’t worried about her and says sympathetically “well, I wish I could say the same thing about my parents, but I never knew them... my parents abandoned me when I was just a pup who was learning how to walk. I basically had to fight for survival on my own without my parents guiding me. Everything I learned was through experience.” Nikolai then shook his head and added “oh, why should you care about what happened to me in the past. Sorry for wasting your time with my little sob story.” He then gets up and begins to walk back to his den with his head bowed down and his ears drooped a bit with sadness.

Fia;
He acknowledged that it was nice to meet her. Perhaps she should have said the same of him—but manners were hard to remember when she was so often above such things. He then went into a sad detail of his past—how he hadn’t known his parents, and that they had left him when he was very young—younger than Fia, even. He said everything he learned, he had learned from a place of having to survive alone. Fia listened with rapt attention. She knew nothing of such a life. Her parents, her siblings, even the pack that was in a way sworn to her. Fia would never be alone unless she chose it.
Then Nikolai expressed embarrassment and sadness, berating himself for oversharing and wondering if Fia would really care. Fia’s ears flicked as she watched him turn away, her mind turning. She was much too smart for her age. ”Nik,” She said, launching upward and trotting through the fallen pink leaves towards him. ”Can I call you Nik?” She would, anyway. She trotted until she came to a stop in front of him, what she assumed to be his den, behind her. ”I do care what happened to you. I’ve never heard anything like it before.” She looked up and met his eyes with her honey-like stare.

Nikolai turned around to face Fia and sat down at the entrance to his den. He hears her ask if she can call him Nik and he lightens up a bit. “Sure Fia, you can call me Nik if you’d like.” He replies with a smile. Nikolai then hears her say that she does care about his story and that his story was very interesting to her. His tail begins to wag a bit and he says “I’m glad that you are interested in my story. You are the first wolf that I have told that story to. I don’t know what it was that made me feel confident and comfortable enough to share my story with you, but what ever it was, I feel a lot lighter now that I have shared that story with you.” Nikolai then adds after seeing that the sun has now gone down “would you like to stay with me tonight, or would you like me to escort you home?”

Fia;
He was happy that Fia has listened to his story. But of course—there were no other options. Stories were power in and of themselves, and if Fia knew what power those around her had, then she could be surprised by nothing. But he seemed friendly enough, so Fia gave him her prettiest and most-winning smile. ”You’re a nice wolf, Nik. I’m glad that you shared your story with me. My family—the Alphas of Midnight Silence—are often too busy for me... that’s why I run away sometimes...” She looked down, then glanced up once more. A half-smile that was partly sheepish revealed her teeth just as the moon flashed in the honey of her eyes.
Nik then once more hinted that the sun had gone down, and that it was getting late. Fia frowned. Why has he been sleeping so close to nightfall, then? She glanced upwards. ”I don’t think it’s too dark out yet. I’m not scared of the dark, you know. Not with you here beside me.” Her teeth flashed once more. ”Oh, don’t make me go back tonight. It’s such an awfully long way. It would be pitch-dark out by the time I returned...” Her tail waved through the air slowly behind her.

Nikolai smiles once again and says “well, then I won’t make you go back tonight. Come on in and make yourself at home.” He then gets up and walks over to the back of the den, where he lays down and waits for Fia to enter his den. “Wow, this is a miracle! Maybe she actually does have an interest in me. I certainly hope that her parents will like me... that is, if Fia and I were to become mates. I think I may be getting too far ahead of myself... I need to slow down quite a bit.” Nikolai says in his mind. He then eventually lays his head down and falls asleep. He begins to dream about him and Fia playing hide and seek in the tall grass that had grown just behind his den. Fia was the seeker and he was the hider. He kept running and leaping through the tall grass until he found a good place to hide...

Fia;
Fia followed him slowly to the mouth of the den. She grinned to herself, picturing Skia's wrath if she knew what one of her pup's was about to do. But mother wasn't here, and more importantly, neither was father—Acribus wasn't even her, father's irritatingly gruff right-paw-wolf. No, none of them were here, and Fia could do as she would.
Nik remained respectful, and went to sleep in the back of the den. Fia laid down by the entrance, her back to the opening, her eyes on the male. He quickly fell asleep, but Fia did not. His paws twitched every now and again, obviously dreaming about something. Fia's honey-like eyes almost seemed to glow in the darkness as she watched him. After she was sure he was really asleep, she silently got up again and began padding around the small den. She smelled around until she found a small store of prey food. She picked a rabbit out of the bunch and dragged it a good enough distance from Nikolai that he wouldn't wake up to the sound of her chewing. As she crunched the bones of the lagomorph, she watched him. Again, he exhibited the shocking confidence (or perhaps stupidity? No...) by sleeping in the presence of another. Fia paused in her chewing, imagining for a moment all the things she could do to him as he slept. Was this how all males were? When she was older, just imagine the fun she could have...
When she was good and done however, she too, went to sleep. It was very late, and she had traveled so far from her evil pack's border that day. She slept very close to the entrance, and facing the stranger. It was a very light sleep, and each moan of the wind or creak of the branches brought her to consciousness once more.
-Time skip-
Fia's eyes opened well before Nik's did. She got up quickly, having been half-awake all night anyway. She glanced at the entrance and made sure that there was absolutely no trace of her midnight-snack left. When she was very sure, she put on her most charming smile once more and trotted to his side. "Good morning," She hummed, nudging him with her small, cold nose.

Nikolai wakes up and stretches a little bit. He sees that Fia is standing by his side and says with a smile “good morning.” He then gets up and walks over to the entrance of the den, where he sat down and watches the sun rise above the horizon. “I love waking up early to watch the sunrise. It’s always so peaceful and relaxing. I made sure that when I chose a den, it had a perfect view of the sunrise. That’s why I chose this den for my home. It’s not too far away from pretty much everything, and on top of all that, I get to wake up every morning and watch the sunrise.” Nikolai says to Fia. He notices that there was a bit of blood on the ground near the entrance of the den. He gets up and walks over to where the blood was and sniffs it. “It smells like rabbit blood. Maybe my little guest had a midnight snack before she went to bed.” He then wanders back over to Fia and asks curiously “Fia, did you grab one of the rabbits that I had stored in my food stash?” He then adds “I’m perfectly ok with it if you did, but next time, please ask me for permission before you do so, ok?”
