Holt yawned and got up. He was in a big forest and smiled. He looked around and saw big trees full of animals even though it was winter. Holt sniffed the air and caught the smell of birds,squirrels,mice, and rabbit. He decided to keep walking to see if he could find a good den that he would make his home. When he saw a tree with big brown bark and lots of birds he smiled at a big hole in the tree He ran towards it and went it. It was really big inside and could hold a whole pack. He dug up some earth to put a bed then dug a hole for prey. He left and gathered feathers, mud, leaves, and moss for a bed. The on his way back he smelled a deer. He decided when it was time he would hunt it. He got back to the tree den to see a rabbit in it he put the stuff down and growled. The rabbit ran but he was faster and pounced on it. When he dropped the dead rabbit In the food hole he went back to grab the stuff. When he made the bed he went hunting and caught a scent it was a bird. He followed the scent to a bird eating a seed on the ground. He stalked it then pounced killing it. He brought the bird to his den then ate it and licked the blood and fur of his muzzle. He had a comfy bed and full stomach so he went to sleep. He dreamt of running through the woods to find out he was going in circles. He stopped and looked around. He saw a silver female and smiled. Then when she smiled back there was a big flash and rain started to fall. He woke with a start to see that it was raining outside. Being exhausted he layed there thinking. The rain was keeping him up so he couldn't sleep. He wished someone was with him so he could talk and get his mind of the beautiful wolf. He wished he could have caught her name.

Koa;The steely-blue female was trotting through the redwood forest when a late-winter rain started. She glanced up, squinting into the growing clouds. Spring must really be right around the corner. Koa brought her head down again and kept her eyes on her paws. For now, the rain served to melt some of the surrounding snow, but she knew all too well that by the evening, when the temperature dropped back down to freezing once more, everything would be covered in a deadly sheet of ice. She would do well to be out of the open by then—but fortunetly the sun was still high in the sky. Soon, the smell of a fresh kill floated to Koa's nose. A fresh kill either meant somebody was nearby to meet, or that there was plenty of prey to be had. In any case, she redirected her paws to carry her in the direction of the scent. By the time she arrived at a large tree with a hole in it, she was quite wet. It didn't bother her too much in the moment. She shook off, and guessed that there must be somebody inside the hollow tree. Koa ducked under the closest branches to the trunk, but didn't go inside, and cleared her throat to announce her presence if there was anybody to hear it.

Holt looked up to see a female wolf at the entrance of his new den. He noticed she wasn't the wolf from her dream and frowned. Holt got up and went over to her noticing she was soaking. "come on in you must be cold and hungry." he said motioning his tail for her to come in. He smelled that the female was no threat at the moment and picked up the rabbit. The sweet smell was coming to him but he knew she had to eat. He dropped the juicy rabbit at her feet when another flash came. He layed down and stared at the female. Even though it wasn't the one he liked she was still kinda pretty."my name is Holt what's yours?" he asked.

Koa;
A male emerged from the depths of the hollow tree. Koa reguarded him quietly, for there was a strange look on his face when she met his eyes. Something like dissappointment? Whatever it was, it had made him frown. One of Koa's eyebrows raised, but she didn't comment. In any case, the male invited her in. She didn't immedietly go in, and instead thought over the situation—but when the chilly rain increased, she sighed and ducked past the threshold. By the time her eyes had adjusted to the light and she had properly shook herself off, there was a rabbit lying at her feet. She looked down at it and frowned, then glanced to the male. He looked like he wanted to eat it, but had offered it to her, instead. Huh. Well, she was hungry, and though she was perfectly capable of going to get a rabbit herself, this one was ready and easy. She grasped the rabbit by the shoulders with her teeth, and settled her paws on its hind legs. She pulled and twisted, and effectively ripped the thing in half. She tossed the hind quarters to the male, which was where the best portion of meat was, and set to work on the front legs.
So his name was Holt, was it? An intersting name.
"I'm Koa," She replied, snapping a few of the smaller bones before taking her first swallow. It was delicious. When she looked up again, the male was staring at her in an appraising sort of way. Huh. Koa took another bite and then stared right back.

Holt watched as she ripped the rabbit in two then gave him the best half. "umm thanks." he said then ate it. When he heard her name he smiled. "oh your name is like boa but you look way not like a snake." he told her. He licked the bone where his meat used to be then tossed the bone in the food hole. The sound of thunder cam the a strike of lighting. "you can stay the night if you want to. I think it's to deadly out there to try and find a place." he told her then pawed a bed making it softer for her.

Koa;
For some reason, Holt thought it was strange that Koa offered him part of the rabbit. His rabbit. That he had caught and killed. Usually, Koa would find this type of behaviour odd, but perhaps he had just intended for her to eat the whole thing herself. He made a comment about her name then, but that made her frown in slight confusion. "I'm—I'm not sure what you mean..." She said slowly, nosing the pile of now-clean bones to the corner of the den. He was comparing her to a snake? Boa must have been a type of snake. "My name means 'brave'..." She wasn't sure what else to say. In any case, the sound of thunder boomed from outside and ended that avenue of conversation. He invited her to stay the night. Koa blinked, then cast a glance behind her. The sun was still high in the sky. Rather an odd request, but perhaps he was just friendly.
"If the storm hasn't let up by sundown I may take you up on your offer, as the rain will have turned to snow by then, and the ground to ice." There was plenty of time between now and then though, and there was no telling whether or not Koa would stay that long.

Holt listened to her talk. He looked outside and noticed that it was still day. He thought that time passed when he was asleep. "im sorry I've been so stupid it must have been that dream I had. I can't get that female out of my mind." he told her. He hoped it was night so he could go to sleep and see her again. "well since it's still poring let's talk. I want to know a little about you like how did you get to my den and why didn't you try to protect yourself. I could have been a mean wolf." he said.

Koa;
Holt apologized for supposedly being stupid, then made a reference to a dream he had had—something about a female. The way he spoke of it sounded as if they had already discussed his dream, but they hadn’t, so Koa’s brow raised in faint interest. He couldn’t get her out of his head, could he? ”What did you dream about?” She asked, glancing outside. The storm reflected on her mint-green eyes, making them appear deeper rather than bright. Her ear flicked as she turned back to him and he asked another question. He said he wanted to get to know her. A faint, humourless smile tugged at Koa’s lips.
”Well, I happened upon your den because I smelled your kill,” She nodded toward the bones of the rabbit. ”And at the time I wasn’t sure that it was a den—in that moment it was just a break from the rain.” Then he asked her why she hadn’t tried to protect herself. The humourless smile widened slightly. ”Protect myself from what? You weren’t exactly being very hostile, inviting me in from the rain. Rest assured that I can handle myself, should things turn ugly.” She smirked at him. ”Same question. Why did you invite me into your home? I could have been a mean wolf, too.”

(Mind if Yukio intrudes this thread for his debut post? ^u^)
Yukio:
No wonder so many wolves were drawn to this place. The valley was spectacular. Exploring it was like a million childhood dreams turned real. Every time Yukio thought he had seen it all, there was more. Such a diverse selection of biomes. And Yukio had only seen a small section toward the west so far, now venturing through the giant redwood trees. Being amongst them, Yukio felt extraordinarily small.
When the rain began to pour, Yukio continued his hike a little slower, feeling his now cold fur sticking to him uncomfortably. Despite not really minding rain, he was ready to find some shelter and maybe check in for the night.
The smell of other wolves brought a smile to Yukio's face. It was time to make some acquaintances. He padded in that direction until coming across a quaint den, voices coming from the inside. He wasn't too concerned about whether they were dangerous or not. If they were, he would get away fast enough. There had been many times in which Yukio provoked the wrong wolves and was forced to flea from temperamental brutes.
Yukio poked his head inside. "Sorry to intrude this romantic dinner," he said because he could smell that they did not have each other's scents on them, meaning they most certainly were not mates. "I was seeking shelter from the rain."

Holt smiled at her. "well my dream was me walking through the woods then running into a really pretty wolf." he told her. He listened to her speak. "well for starters I'm a really nice wolf and love helping out. I also saw you where wet and needed help." he told her. He looked up when he heard someone else speak. There was a male standing at the entrance. He blushed even though he didn't like the wolf like that. "well come in and by the way I was also giving her shelter and food nothing is going on." he told the new male.
OOC: next time I post I'm adding WinterSnow the wolf he dreamed about

Koa;
Holt explained that he had dreamt that he met a pretty wolf in his dream. Koa smirked, and her storm-coloured tail thrashed casually. "Well, I guess you can dream the future." She chuckled at the joke, settling herself to sit beside the entrance so she could properly face him. When he gave his reasoning for letting her in, Koa had to inturrupt. "Uh, forgive me for correcting you, but I didn't need help. I came in to be polite, and because I had decided for myself that getting out of the rain would probably be a good idea." She smiled. "Frankly, I probably would have come in regardless."
Then another male joined them. Koa turned as he poked his head in and introduced himself with a bad joke. Koa's eyebrow raised, ever-cool, but she chuckled deep in her throat. She could appreciate sarcasm, even when it was directed at her—but for some reason Holt blushed. She turned and fixed him with her minty-green stare, watching for any further reactions. "Aren't we all?" Koa said welcomingly in reply to Yukio's statement, though didn't take her eyes from Holt. She was at ease, more so than another female might be, in a small space with two males—but Koa was confident if she was anything, and she had no reason to fear.

Yukio:
An immediate respect for the female was born when she responded coolly to Yukio's joke, but he was still dissatisfied with the reaction. Perhaps he had been hoping for one of them to make fun of him in return, but it seemed they were too soft. Well, maybe just kind hearted. But the male blushed. That was unquestionably soft.
Yukio chuckled along with the female, then climbed into the den. He tried not to take up too much space, being the one who had barged in on the meeting uninvited. "I'm Yukio," he said leaning against the wall of the den. He flicked his tail in their direction as a gesture of it being their turn to state their names.
Neither of them emanated pack scent. Loners. Just like himself. Looking to start an interesting conversation, Yukio decided to pry at that subject.
"I take it you both are loners," he said drawing a paw over his ear. "I'm curious. What would cause one to choose a lifestyle like that?"

Holt smiled at his question. "i have always been a loner I was born into it and when my parents died I decided to travel." he told them. "welcome to my den Yukio." he said to the male. WinterSnow woke with a start. She had the same dream with the same wolf. She wondered who he was. She got up and smelled the air. It was about to rain so she went hunting. She chased after a rabbit than ate it. She walked on until the rain started. When she found a tree with a hole she sniffed the air. It smelled like there was two males and a female but something was off. One of the males scent was familiar and then she understood. The scent was from the wolf in her dream he must be in the den she thought. She went to the entrance. "umm hello my name is WinterSnow and may I enter to get out of rain?" she asked. She noticed the brown male she saw in her dreams and smiled. Holt looked up to see a new wolf. A female wolf who looked familiar. He thought and thought then got it. She was the wolf from his dream and his heart leaped. "umm hi I'm holt ya come in." he told her. WinterSnow smiled and walked into the den. She noticed that holt was the only spot open so she sat by him.

Koa;
The new male, named Yukio apparently, piled into the den as well. He was welcomed by Holt, and given a level, but not unfriendly nod by Koa. She couldn’t detect any pack scent on him when she did a quick inspection—but then he went and asked them why they would choose such a lifestyle. Koa’s smile came out of hiding for that one. He was a loner too, shouldn’t he know the answer to that question? Holt answered that he had always been a loner, and Koa supposed that meant it was her turn, as well. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she thought about it. ”I think there could be many causes. In my own case, I’m new here and haven’t yet found somewhere I fit; that being said however, I’m not one to take direction from someone else. At least not very well.” Her minty eyes sparkled. ”As for others, who knows? I think it calls to free spirits though, and if not specifically, at least more commonly. But you don’t smell of any pack—I ask you the same question.” Behind her, her tail waved lazily through the air. ”I’m Koa.”
At that point in time, the conversation was inturrupted by yet another wolf. Well, who was Koa to judge, really. She had happened upon Holt’s den as well, the same as the others, and with the rain still carrying o outside it only made sense. There was a slightly awkward exchange between Holt and the new female, Wintersnow, and then she sat down without so much as acknowledging the others. Koa fought hard to keep her brow from raising sceptically, but her gaze did travel over to Yukio to see how he was reacting.

Yukio:
Yukio nodded along as the male spoke. It seemed being a loner was not a lifestyle he picked out himself. But the she wolf explained how, despite not having found a place to fit in, she probably wouldn't fit in a pack anyway. Yukio flicked his tail as he thought about this response. He was about to say something else when the question was shot back at him, and he decided he liked Koa. Intuitive. Independent. Not overly sensitive.
"I'm a loner because no pack in this valley has my mindset," he said. "I'm new around here, but I've heard a lot about this place and the packs here. I call myself evil." He narrowed his eyes, thinking hard about what he was saying. "But I don't go around killing for fun." It was quite possible that the pair would suddenly, if not already, be very uncomfortable with Yukio being so close to them now that they knew he was evil, even if he wasn't planning on attacking. He glanced from Holt to Koa. "You both seem like good wolves, yes?" They could've been neutral, but he liked the tiny risk of saying the wrong thing.
A new wolf joined the mix, making the den quite crowded. Her coat, like Holt's, was fairly natural. Yukio had expected more bright colors in the valley, like Koa's and half of Yukio's own pelts. But these two seemed like the kind of wolves Yukio would've found outside the valley. Perhaps that was where they were from.
"You look wet," he said. It was meant to sound playful, but Yukio had never been very good at playful voices.
